Author's Notes and Disclaimer: Greetings, readers. Don't worry, I haven't given up on my other story; but I do need a bit of time to complete it and a few others. In the meantime, I have a little something for you that I typed back in 2019, to be more specific, at least a couple days after I had what I called "The Greatest Weekend Ever". That was when my family and I went to the movie theater to see "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" and saw "Avengers: Endgame" the day after. And when I saw "Godzilla: King of the Monsters"…aside from some problem points...I was amazed. I loved it! I really did! The music was phenomenal: Godzilla's Theme (they actually incorporated Ifukube's score!), Mothra's Theme (absolutely beautiful!), even Rodan and King Ghidorah got their own respective themes (high-energy and ominous, respectively), and that song that played during the end credits by Bear McCreary and featuring Serj Tankian that was a cover of the song "Godzilla" by Blue Öyster Cult is now SO one of my jams! (In fact, I've picked a lot of this movie's soundtrack to be part of my fanfic-verse soundtrack).

The kaiju fights were intense, and the kaiju themselves looked terrific; Mothra was so gorgeous and they gave her a stinger (that was a surprise), gave her longer appendages to fight, and the ability to shoot silk in her Adult-form! Rodan was huge! When he got close to those fighter planes the size difference was GINORMOUS! You really got an idea on how big there were. King Ghidorah, devilish as always, and it appears they gave each of the heads a personality. Oh, and when he grew one of his heads back, I was BLOWN AWAY. Godzilla was so huge and strong and when he went into what I thought was his Burning Form near the end of the film…WHOA. TOTAL EPIC MOMENT. And when all those other kaiju bowed to Godzilla at the end in a way that was SO "Lion King"? MORE EPIC! And, for the first time, Goji actually startled me (it was when he swam by Outpost 54 before departing for the South Pole and startled everybody in there).

So, to make a long story short, it was an absolute geek-out. Another thing that came out of this was that in the months before the movie came out, I perused through some Godzilla art on DeviantArt and Pinterest that had Godzilla and Mothra together as an OTP (that's "One True Pairing"). Then I saw the movie and the characters hinted at there being a sort of symbiotic relationship between Godzilla and Mothra, which of course, a lot of fans took as the ship "Godzilla x Mothra" (I think even the director, Michael Dougherty, confirmed it). Needless to say, after looking at so much of that art and reading so many fics based around that ship…I'm sort of on the bandwagon. (I warned you that there would be ships, and you'll find out why I said "sort of" in another fic).

Which brings me to this: This is a love story in poetic form that I typed because I was inspired by an art piece called "Raindrop". I don't know who the artist is but I do know that the picture depicts a rather powerful image of Godzilla standing over the dead (or dying) body of Mothra in mourning in a rainy sunset. When I laid eyes on that picture, the music of the segment "The Firebird Suite" from Disney's Fantasia 2000 began playing in my mind, which I hope you'll listen to as you read this.

I don't own the characters of Godzilla, Mothra, or any of the other kaiju; Toho, Warner Bros, and Legendary Pictures do.

So, without further ado, I present…

"Neverending Love"

Millions of years ago, before Man, there were the Titans,

Mighty, ancient creatures in many shapes and forms named for their massive size.

They lived a simple, peaceful life, under the rule of the King, the Alpha Titan.

The King was one that the others feared and respected, but there was one other

Whom the Titans, even the King himself, purely loved

And he was currently looking for her as the sun began to rise over the island that all the Titans shared.

He looked around, calling her name, but she seemed nowhere to be found

Until, in a hollow, half-open mountain, a turquoise glow appeared

A warm, bright, beautiful glow that the King knew so well.

A pair of large, delicate, moth wings emerged as their owner, the Divine Moth, Queen of the Monsters

Stretched them as she roused from her slumber.

Sensing her King's presence, she flew to him and they smiled as they pressed their foreheads together to lovingly say "Good morning" to each other.

She then began flying on, but when the King turned to follow her, it seemed she had disappeared again.

So confused was he, that he didn't notice her come up from behind and playfully wrap her wings over his face.

She then parted them and gazed upside-down into his warm, yellow eyes, a smile in her eyes.

The King smiled as he gazed back into hers, bluer than the blue sky itself,

The only eyes that could reach into his heart and soul to comfort him in times of need,

The only eyes he could trust to do so.

The King gently shook his head and she dismounted from her perch

And they began their walk around the island.

..

They passed the volcano where the mighty Fire Bird Titan nested,

They walked by the grazing grounds of the mighty Ankyloid Titan,

They strode by the lair of the deadly Spider Titan, who respectfully let them pass,

And they passed the lake of the Flying Dragon Titan,

Until they came to a grove that they frequented:

A beautiful place with a deep pond where the King loved to relax and where the trees bore blooms

Including an old tree where the Divine Moth loved to perch to feel the Sun's rays and take in the peace of the morning.

When she finished her meditation, she looked down to suddenly realize that one particularly beautiful tree was missing.

It had had beautiful flowers that were colored like a sunrise, much like the one that had occurred.

She came down to find that it had been, surprisingly, carefully removed, the roots left so that it could regrow.

Her answer of who was responsible came when turned around to find the King holding that very tree in his maw,

Presenting it like a bouquet of flowers.

Her eyes widened in surprise to see this,

Making the King suddenly become overcome with the thought that he had done something wrong,

And he lowered his gaze in shame.

But then he saw her close to his face, the same gentle smile in her eyes,

And she began to laugh.

Her bright, chirping peals warmed the King's heart and he smiled tenderly.

..

Later that day, they were walking towards the shore,

Where the King had planned to do some hunting in the deep sea.

However, the King began sensing something strange, unfamiliar, alien.

The Divine Moth landed on his shoulder and looked at him, her blue eyes full of concern and warning;

She had sensed the presence as well.

They both turned their gaze to a large crater in the earth, not three or five of the King's strides to the northwest.

They looked at each other, asking, "What kind of presence could be there?"

The King decided to find out, so he stepped, cautiously to avoid alerting whatever it was to his presence

Towards the crater.

Upon looking inside, they found that it was not empty, but had a large mound in its center, almost as tall as the King himself.

The alien presence grew stronger, almost as if it had sensed their approach.

The King motioned with his hand to the Divine Moth, "Stay behind me",

In case this strange thing was hostile, he didn't want her harmed.

Reluctantly, she got off him and obeyed, worrying for her King's safety

As he stepped towards the mound.

Carefully he sniffed it and looked it over, noticing the cracks forming shapes,

Like wings, veins, claws, closed eyes.

It unnerved the King, yet he was compelled by curiosity

To touch it.

..

Six eyes opened, blazing a malevolent red

As a golden cloud crackling with lightning grew,

The stranger growing larger and powerful within.

The King and the Divine Moth stared at this thing,

Its power a kind never felt before.

They tried to face it unafraid, but their racing hearts betrayed them

The figure behind the lightning cloud seemed to grin,

Relishing their fear.

Bolts of lightning raced out of the crater into the sky above,

Startling the other Titans and other indigenous creatures.

Some wanted to stay and fight, knowing that the King and Queen were in that area,

But eventually the island populace evacuated en masse to avoid being killed by the lightning strikes that were now occurring all over the island.

Meanwhile, the King and the Divine Moth, despite this show of power,

Composed themselves and readied themselves for battle against this menace.

It soon revealed itself to be a massive, bipedal, golden dragon with three heads, two tails, and massive wings,

Bigger than them both.

Battle cries were unleashed and the King made the first move,

But this Golden Dragon grabbed the King by the neck, right shoulder and left arm in its mouths,

Causing him to roar in pain.

The Divine Moth retaliated with a blow to the Golden Dragon's back,

And another, making him release the King.

Turning, the Golden Dragon saw his assailant, glowing, arms raised for battle,

Charging from the sky.

The Dragon let loose bolts of lightning which struck her down.

Momentarily distracted by the sight of her fall,

The King was soon struck off balance as well,

Rolling down the side and stopping close to where his Queen had landed.

Shaking off the pain as best he could,

He urged her to wake up and get away.

She stood despite the pain but refused to abandon him.

He urged her again and forced her to flee,

Willing to sacrifice his life for hers.

Still unwilling to do so, with a heavy heart, she obeyed.

Standing back up, he slashed at the approaching three-headed demon with his claws,

Raking its golden armor,

To get it to follow him.

..

The Divine Moth halted her flight and turned in time to see the Golden Dragon begin to chase her King,

But what struck fear into her heart was that she sensed its intentions:

It did not come for all the Titans, just one.

She had to protect him, save him;

That was the only thought in her mind as she flew

Through the storm of lightning that set the island ablaze,

Desperately searching, searching

The smoke preventing her from seeing.

She flapped her wings to clear her vision

And found herself looking at a terrible sight:

The King was battered, wounded, while the Golden Dragon was barely winded.

Her instinct to protect and her love for her King erased all her fear.

She knew what she had to do.

Shining like a blue star, she sped towards the Golden Dragon just as it unleashed its most powerful attack,

And suddenly, it seemed everything disappeared

In the glare that followed.

..

The first thing the King became aware of as he stirred

Was an aching in his own body and his own heart beating in his chest,

A sign that he was still alive.

He opened his eyes and slowly lifted his head, shaking off some debris that had settled on him.

His vision was blurred at first,

And he was confused by the silence that greeted his ears,

But soon his vision cleared and the aching in his body dissipated,

And a bolt of shock passed through him when he saw what had become of his island home:

The sky seemed to be colored an ashen gray and the ground a burnt black with some still-smoldering embers.

Of the once-magnificent trees, only burnt, brittle sticks stood in their place,

Any inland water had evaporated and even the mountains themselves looked scorched.

The King looked around, surveying the destruction caused by the battle

And began wondering what had happened to the others.

What happened to…

In a flash, he recalled the last image he saw before his world went dark:

A blue falling star rushing towards the demon as it released its ultimate attack.

Anxiety overcame him and he paced through the desolation,

Desperately calling the name of his dear Queen.

He almost gave up, but then saw a flash of a familiar glow from the corner of his eye.

It was coming from where the grove used to be,

Under a stack of burnt trees, boulders, and upturned earth.

It was faint, oh, very faint.

The King raced towards it and began removing the debris,

But upon lifting the last two trunks with his shoulder and his hands,

His heart constricted as a bolt of sorrow cut through it like a knife,

For there, her body broken, her wings tattered, her eyes dimly lit, was the Divine Moth.

A cry escaped his throat when he saw this.

Another came and tears began filling his eyes when he saw her struggling to raise her head in reaction to her King's cry.

Gently picking her up, the King cradled her in his arms like a newborn

Moved from the area a little ways,

And set her down, her head resting against a rock formation on an angle to make eye contact.

He was breathing heavily, trying to remain brave for her,

But a few tears began escaping his eyes.

She tried moving an arm to reach up and wipe them away,

But she didn't have the strength.

Instead, he gently took it and held it,

Praying for her to hold on.

He wanted her to be all right, to deny everything his senses were telling him,

But he couldn't.

His eyes could see how badly hurt she was

His nose smelt her wounds

And, worst of all, his ears could barely hear her heartbeat.

She began chirping softly, in the tone of a mother comforting her child,

"It's all right. This is how it had to be. I know you would risk your life for mine,

But you know that I would also gladly give my life for yours.

Your subjects need you; the Earth needs you to defend it from threats like the one we faced today".

The King wanted to argue, but deep down, he knew she was right,

And the pain in his heart was too great for him to utter a word.

"I may…have to leave now," she continued, her form beginning to glow an ethereal blue, her heart beginning to slow,

"But know this: We will meet again. And…no matter what,...I will always…be with you….Goodbye….my King…."

With that, her form turned into a shower of turquoise-colored mist and sparkles

That ascended into the heavens, briefly lighting the burnt island.

The other Titans, who had survived the assault, saw this spectacle in awe,

But their expressions soon fell when they saw where it had left from.

The Divine Moth, their King's dearest, was gone forever.

..

The King stood there, silent for the first time since before his first awakening,

Grieving for the one he loved the most.

The other Titans hung their heads in mourning and respect.

Even the Earth itself seemed to cry for her as it released a shower of rain,

Some of the raindrops mixing with their tears.

The Divine Moth always brought cheer to the island ever since she first came,

And now that part of their lives was only a memory.

A piece of all their hearts went with her when she passed,

But to the King, it seemed to take all of it away.

The other Titans could only sadly look on as they saw the tears streaming down their King's cheeks.

Nothing they could do would ever ease the pain he was feeling.

He never even noticed them as he lumbered slowly past them towards the sea.

..

It had only been a few hours that the King had been wandering through the sea,

But in his grief, it felt like years.

He wrapped his arms around himself, trying to shake off this feeling,

But it seemed to have settled on him like a second skin.

There was a hole in himself now,

Too deep and too dark for anything to fill it.

He looked down to see his distorted reflection through the water rippling from the rain

And saw a shape with sad eyes staring back.

Without her, without her voice, without her eyes, her guidance, her love, he was lost.

He put a hand to his shoulder, remembering how light her touch was when she sat there.

More tears joined the raindrops.

He slowly moved his hand to his chest to feel his own heart,

Still beating when someone else's had stopped.

Anger began building up inside of him as he clenched his hand into a fist.

How dare he still live when the dearest thing he had, the one thing that became his reason for living, was dead?

He was terribly tempted to reach inside and pull the pumping organ out to end his suffering and rejoin his love in death,

But a small voice in the back of his mind told him, "No. That is not what she would want".

So he lowered his hand and continued staring at his own reflection.

..

Suddenly, he began noticing a patch of water that seemed to start glowing.

He sighed wearily; maybe he was going to die after all.

But then he noticed the glow wasn't coming from under the water, but above in the sky.

He lifted his head to see beams of light filtering through the clouds

As the rain began to stop.

He squinted his eyes to see past the clouds to the source,

But then he felt something;

Something warm, gentle, comforting, beautiful, like a mother's kiss.

Something…familiar.

As the clouds parted, his still tear-filled eyes widened in part-surprise, part-happiness as his heart gave a leap of overwhelming joy.

For there, hovering overhead like an Angel descended from Heaven, was his beloved, the Divine Moth herself,

Shining like a bright blue star.

It felt like her, but it somehow didn't feel like her as well;

There was a newness about this Divine Moth, like she had just been born,

But the gentle glow about her and the way she gazed at him with those eyes was almost enough to convince him that she had somehow come back from the beyond.

The new Divine Moth slowly descended, gradually diminishing her glow as the sun began coming out behind her,

Until she gently landed on his front, her main arms grasping his left shoulder in a sort of hug.

The King felt the blood rise to his face as his heart began to race, nervous,

Afraid that this was all a dream,

And any minute, he was going to wake up alone again.

But her grip on his shoulder tightened,

Her furred head felt soft on his scales,

And he felt her heart beating against his.

He wrapped his arms around her and gently squeezed,

Bringing her closer.

Tears of happiness now ran from his eyes, replacing the ones of sorrow;

This was no dream.

She was back, alive and somehow young again, back in his arms to stay.

The King never really believed in anything, but now he was thanking whatever higher power was responsible for bringing his love back to him.

..

The new Divine Moth felt the King's happiness and nuzzled his cheeks gently

To wipe away whatever tears had fallen,

Although some began falling down her cheeks as well.

Whatever she knew about him, she knew from her predecessor, and it was wonderful.

She then made a promise to her and to herself that she would love him as much as her predecessor did,

Enough for them both.

They gradually broke off their loving embrace and gazed into each other's eyes,

Reaffirming their bond and vows of love.

They then looked back toward the island, still gray and burnt like a pile of ash floating in the sea.

She then looked at the King, an eager look in her eyes as if to say, "There's work to be done! Come on! Let's go!"

The King smiled warmly at her silent, earnest message,

And, after asking for permission, he lifted her up in his hands to give her a boost in her takeoff.

The new Divine Moth spread her wings, making them glow brightly in the sky,

And sent a shower of sparkles falling from them.

The King felt his chest swell in happiness at the sight,

He had never seen anything so beautiful since he first met the Divine Moth.

It made him feel young again; he couldn't help but smile.

Then he saw her look back at him and beckon with her head, calling.

"Come! Follow me!" she was saying.

He did so happily.

..

Back on the island,

The other Titans could barely believe their eyes when they saw who was approaching,

With their King close behind.

Once he set foot on the shore,

The King saw the effects of his dear love's magic:

Trees began to rejuvenate,

The ground grew green with grass again,

Inland bodies of water were restored,

Flowers bloomed, and this time their colors seemed to shine brighter than before.

She was even able to restore the mountains,

The grove where the King and her predecessor spent time together,

And even the crater where the Golden Dragon had emerged was covered by the new beauty.

But all this was nothing compared to the strengthened love and happiness the King felt inside.

He had been given another chance with her,

And he was not going to waste it.

A triumphant chirp overhead drew his attention upward,

Where the new Divine Moth was literally and figuratively glowing in happiness,

Her job of healing the island a success.

Once again, she came back to him,

And they pressed their foreheads together

To show affection

Before turning with the other Titans to face the sun in the Eastern sky.

And if any being was passing by the east shore at that moment,

They would've sworn that the King had grown a pair of wings.

..

In the present, Mothra ended the vision to see her friend's reaction, smiled tenderly, and began nuzzling him gently, just as her ancestor had done, to wipe away Godzilla's tears.

..

So let this be a lesson to all lovers,

Whether it be romantic, familial, or in friendship,

Even though those we hold dear may not remain on Earth for long,

Through love, they will live on in our hearts.

For while life may be temporary,

Love is eternal,

Love is neverending.

I hope everyone liked it (even if I did break the form by having that shift to the present near the end there). If you did, snap your fingers (that's how people applaud after a poem reading). If not, I appreciate constructive criticism, but I won't take flames; also, I can't please everyone. So I'm sorry if you didn't like it.

I do hope it was beautiful enough to get you thinking about the ones you love in your life and realize how special they are to you. It may be a bit corny and cliché, but considering how many times it's been said and considering there are many relationships that have lasted for many years, don't you think there may be a bit of truth to it?

Also, I realize that there is a contemplation of suicide in here. Let me just say that if you are or a loved one are having these kinds of thoughts, call a help hotline, talk to them, talk to a loved one or a friend or someone you trust, but please, DON'T DO IT; you are too special and unique to take your own life. Even if the chips are down and it seems everything is against you, there is always love and hope around the corner. YOU ARE LOVED, and DON'T you forget it.

As always, please read and review. Thank you.
