Greetings from SeekerMeeker.
So, I am getting into this.
Reptilia
Chapter 4: Reptilia
Reptilia
Reptilia is the name of a mysterious continent, which is located on a planet that is completely separate (and different) from the Amphibia. Like Amphibia, Reptilia is a continent that is all by itself. Hence, it can count as an island...or a continent, depending on what defines the two.
Like Amphibia, Reptilia is named after a class of animals. It also features a variety of animals that are much larger than those of Earth, such as oversized insects. The continent is also as old as the Earth.
However, Reptilia is also very different. Unlike Amphibia, Reptilia is shaped in a rough triangle, with one point facing south. It looks like either a giant shark tooth, or a fusion of both South America and Africa. It is inhabited not by sentient amphibians, but by sentient reptiles. Plus, unlike Amphibia, Reptilia features a wide variety of climates and terrains, especially those that amphibians rarely live in (such as deserts).
However, perhaps the greatest difference, other than reptiles, is that Reptilia is not the only continent. Unlike Amphibia, Reptilia is one of the continents of this Earth-like planet, whose name is forgotten in history. Hence, there are other continents out there. My intention is that this world will be a crossover universe, if all goes well. If not, it is implied for the time being.
As you can see, Reptilia is my AU version of Amphibia. However, it is more grounded in real-life Earth history. Since both South America and Africa are not only very tropical, but also are believed to have been fused together at one point, I decide to use that idea as an inspiration.
Some details of Reptilia may change, but one thing is sure: it is somewhat triangular in shape, and has aspects of both South America and Africa.
Saurians
Also known as Reptilians, Saurians are intelligent inhabitants of the magical, fantastic world of Reptilia. Like their Amphibian counterparts, they are both sapient and sentient (the two are actually very different words, but they sound alike). They are smart and able to create and maintain civilizations (sapient), and are able to have feelings and desires (sentient). They also are cold-blooded, just like the Amphibians.
However, unlike the Amphibians, Saurians are themed after reptiles, especially living ones (with some being based on extinct forms). They look like anthropomorphic reptiles with five fingers and five toes (very different from the Amphibians, who have four fingers). All are completely covered in scales, and can resist dry climates. In sharp contrast to the Amphibians, who are used to living as the only "sentient race," the Saurians are used to a world inhabited by other races.
Perhaps the greatest difference between the Saurians and the Amphibians is this: unlike the frogs, toads, and newts who have rarely seen humans, the Saurians are used to humanity. They have seen and witnessed humans, and their cultures. However, they still do not know much...
Saurians are my AU version of the Amphibians. However, because of this, I decide to go for OCs, instead of reptilian versions of frogs. The latter idea will be complicated, so I am not doing that.
Igor
Igor is a Lizardman, one of the core "species" that make up the Saurian race. However, Lizardmen are really an umbrella term for various species, all of them unified by being "humanoid lizards." Igor himself is loosely based on the blue iguana, which is an endangered species of iguana from the island of Grand Cayman, which is located in the Caribbean. Hence, like the blue iguana, Igor is not only blue, but also has a head like that of an iguana, with head crests. Like iguanas, Igor is vegetarian, but is willing to try out different types of food, especially new ones.
Currently, Igor is a fanner, the job of using a palm frond to cool a particular tortoiseshell. Until now, the name of the tortoise is forgotten. Now, he is witnessing a history in the making...
Fun fact: Igor left his scribe job, due to a desire for a better pay.
Igor is an OC. He is NOT based on any Amphibia character, but that may change. In fact, he and his kind are really based on the Lizardmen of the Total War: Warhammer series.
Corin
Corin is a Snakeman, one of the core species of the Saurian race. Unlike most Saurians, Corin has no legs, due to having a serpentine tail. Hence, while most Saurians look like roughly humanoid reptiles, Corin and Snakemen look like "vaguely mermaid or lamia-like reptiles." Corin is loosely themed after the king cobra, which is famous and well-known. Hence, Corin can produce a hood, especially when emotional. Unlike Igor, Corin is more into manners, but seems more emotional than he is.
Fun fact: Corin left his garbage collector job for the fanner. His real reason is to discover who the Chelon is.
Like Igor, Corin is an OC. He is not based on any character of Amphibia, but it is too early to decide. Snakemen like he are based on the Sephulchral Stalkers of Total War: Warhammer series and the Yuan-ti abominations of The Forgotten Realms series.
Alan
Alan is a Crocan, another core species that make up the Saurian race. He is typical of his kind: huge, muscular, and very hard to kill. However, he is themed after the Chinese alligator and extinct species of alligators. Hence, he has features that are in common with the Chinese alligator, such as being fully armored (a trait not shared with the American alligator). However, his huge size is not typical of Chinese alligators, but typical of extinct species of alligators. Hence, Alan is not very open about admitting his true nature, as even he is confused by his legacy. Like most of his kind, Alan is a lot smarter than he looks. Unlike most Crocans, however, he wants to prove that to other Saurians, even willing to speak with "smarter" members.
He is best friends with Igor, hence the relationship between the two in the first chapter.
Fun fact: he is actually a scribe, taking the job when Igor left it!
Alan and his kind are essentially my version of the Kroxigor of Total War: Warhammer series. They may look like humanoid dinosaurs, but they really are themed after crocodilians.
Classified
The tortoiseshell that Igor and Corin look after is actually the living shell of an ancient creature. His name is lost to history, except for the very few Saurians who know of him. Other than they, nobody knows who this Chelon is. Chelons like he are not only long-lived, but also extremely attuned to magic. It is only when he awakens that his name is revealed...soon.
Fun fact: his name is original, and it will be important.
Classified; Classified; Classified; Classified; Classified
The true heroes of this story. They will appear later, but they are hinted in the first chapter.
Fun fact: the repetition of the word "Classified" is intentional.
So yeah, this is my first chapter that essentially is an "info dump." However, I actually like this. Unlike my previous stories, in which I tried to both write a story AND build the world of my story, this pattern seems to work for me. It frees me to write the story, then go and build my world. That way, it is a way to make it easier to not only read, but also write for me.
However, it is too early to decide, so let me know if this pattern makes sense.
And remember: unless there are exceptions, every odd-numbered chapter will be story, while every even-numbered chapter will be exposition and "info dump."
Feel free to review about this.
I hope this helps, so good luck reading!
