Just how did this happen...

"Tonight, we shall sacrifice the witch to our god!" Announced a cloaked weirdo, the mob standing before him cheered.

"Burn the witch! Burn the witch!"

"Kill the bitchy witch!"

This is your fault

No, seriously. How did this happen?

"Lev is one of master students," Anzu said, adjusting the bag on her shoulders. "He's also going to be your doctor."

An apple a day keeps the doctor away if you yeet it.

"What? Why do I need a doctor?" I asked, trying to block Lu voice.

"I don't know. I don't know..." she was radiating anxiety, her voice was thick with uncertainty. Clenching and un-clenching her hands, she stared at the ground in deep thought.

This is my first time seeing her show this much emotion.

At least she can feel.

"Anzu, where are we going?" My question snapped her from her thoughts. Taking deep breaths, Anzu relaxed her shoulders.

"We are going to Pennsylvania." Her voice went back to her usual monotone tone. She stretched her hand towards me, "Give me your hand, brat." Her tone showed that there was no room for arguments.

"Rude." Once I gave her my hand, I felt her magic in the air. My surroundings changed, the sunlight that burned my eyes was replaced with the complete darkness.

It was disturbing to be able to see and hear perfectly in such dark surroundings. The air was thick with the smell of loam and trees, and there was this scent that overwhelmed my senses. It was so strong I couldn't breath, making me gasp for air.

MAhOro? MaHOro b̸r̸e̸a̸t̸h̸!

"M̸a̸h̸o̸r̸o̸, w̸h̸a̸t̸'s̸ -?" I couldn't hear what she was saying, my ears were ringing.

Who was talking?

"I- I can't breath-" The words felt like they were punched right out of my guts.

"Mahoro!" That was the last thing I heard before blacking out.

I stared at the child in laying in the bed, her mop of purple curls sweaty and sticking to her face. She was sweating a lot. Her brows were furrowed, and her breathing was uneven.

If I didn't teleport us in time who knows what could've happened. Why couldn't she breath? There's nothing wrong with that forest.

"Just what aren't you telling me, master." I sighed, running my hand through my hair.

Master is keeping secrets, and took a new student for no reasons. Ray is having his yearly problems. Mahoro is weird. Lev is M.I.A. And I can't contact anyone through magic for some reasons.

There's also this weird atmosphere in this town, there are no demons or fallen angels here, only a protestant church. The few magicians that lived here are missing too. This is too strange, can I handle it with Mahoro?

Stupid Anzu you'll get someone hurt like always do. I really suck at making decisions.

"Unh. What..." Mahoro voice snapped my train of thoughts. She sprung to a sitting position. "I'm not sleeping!"

"Pfft-" I couldn't help snickering at the sight of her hair sticking everywhere.

What a weird kid.

My snickers must've caught her attention because she was now glaring at me. It impossible to take her seriously when she looks like hedgehog.

"Glad to have you awake. Can you tell me what happened?" I asked sitting besides her.

"I don't know. There was this really strong smell, and the next thing I knew I couldn't breath." She mumbled sniffing the air.

Is she some kind of dog?

"Is that so... there was nothing there. Hmm... you've slept enough, let's continue our search. I asked around for Lev, but found nothing. He was last seen in this town." I said tying her hair in a short ponytail.

At least she's not fighting the hair tie.

"What if he's in the middle of getting sacrificed to some entity? From what you told me he's not a pleasant person." She said tying her shoe lace.

"I didn't tell you anything."

"You said he's M.I.A either he is hard to find and contact, or he's in trouble."

"It's probably the latter."

That one usually finds himself in nasty situations. I thought with a grimace.

"You know we barely know each other." I said looking around for anyone that matches the description she gave me.

"We're on first name basis, that's enough." Anzu mumbled staring at me with confusion in her eyes. If I wasn't scared of her I would have told her how mesmerizing her eyes were. But, I'm terrified.

"I mean we are stuck together let's get to know each other. Let's start with full names, age, then random questions, okay!" I excitedly exclaimed, shaking her arm.

"Ugh..Kim Anzu, 16 years old."

Oh, I thought she'll hit me. I inwardly sighed, walking faster to match her strides.

"I'm Mahoro! I will be ten in august. Where did you come from Anzu?"

"I was born and raised in England."

"England? You have a german accent, though?" I asked stroking my nonexistent beard, with a thoughtful expression.

"I kind of lost my accent the past few years, also don't judge people by their accents." She said shaking my hand of off her arm. "And you where do you come from? You're accent is a mix of turkish and swedish."

"I don't know, I'm an orphan. Next question! Why are you always angry? What does Lev looks like?" I said changing the subject.

Well I think I was Turkish in my past life.

"Lev looks like Jack Frost but if he was a gangster-" Anzu frowned, pausing she turned to face me with a solemn look. "I'm not angry that's just my face."

I blinked once, twice, staring at her incredulously.

You mean it's unintentional!? I thought she was glaring- making a hole in my head because she hates me.

So she have a permanent resting bitch face?

"That's surprising, I always thought you were angry. Next ques-"

"Who are you, Mahoro." Anzu sharp tone stopped me in my track. She was studying my face intensely as if I was abnormal.

"You just said it I'm Mahoro...?"

"No. What are you."

I stared at her in shock and disbelief. The meaning of her earlier question hit me.

"What-what do you mean..." The words were stuck in my throat. I was tasting the bile in my mouth.

What does she mean?! I'm human. HUMAN! I'm just like everyone else. I'm human... I'm not.

Calm down!

I'm calm, nothing nothing is wrong with me! I'm normal.

"I'm normal..."

After regaining my composure I sat on a swing, staring at the ground.

I lost control of my emotions, and ran away again. Why didn't I stay calm.

Dude you came back from the dead. You need time and therapy, a lot of therapy.

Anzu probably hates me now. Maybe if I wasn't a coward things would have gone differently.

You need serious help.

"Excuse me, can you help me find the church?" I stared at the blind young man standing before me.

I'm not an asshole so no matter how I'm feeling right now I should help.

"I will try my best, sir!"

I mean what's the worst case scenario? Getting sacrificed by a cult?

Don't jinx us.

Wow, we're really getting sacrificed. Amazing.

We need to talk about your life choices.
