Back again! I've got 3 more for y'all today. A big thank you to everyone who sent in amazing reviews and prompts! Enjoy! :)
From Sora: prompt for one longer or same if u like. modern au peggy is underappreciated and does something amazing to be noticed. this either works or her sisters still ignore her and she finds the modern revolutionary set and becomes friends!
Peggy tapped the corner of her mouth with the end of a paintbrush, analyzing the canvas in front of her. She was going to make something great—she'd already decided as much that morning. Something eye-catching, something inherently Peggy, that would make people stop and notice her for a minute.
It wasn't like she was never given attention—she had friends at school and her sisters usually had time for her—but she got the feeling lately that she was being grouped in with them more often than not. Don't get her wrong, she loved that they were the Schuyler sisters, a trio all their own, but she wanted to stand out. To be her own person. Art was something she'd always been drawn to, so she figured this would be the best way to try.
Peggy poured paint into a tray and got to work. A swipe here, a swirl there. She worked her away around the canvas with ease as her vision came to life. Music blaring through her makeshift studio, she mixed and splattered and dotted in varying strokes until the vibrant colors consumed the piece.
"Pegs?" A voice startled her and she whipped around to see Eliza standing in the doorway. "What're you—oh, wow," she stepped into the room, eyes fixed on the painting. "Did you make this?"
"Do you like it?"
"It's beautiful." Eliza touched the edge of the canvas, careful not to smear anything. "There's an art contest at the state fair this year. You should enter."
"I don't know..." It was a pretty good painting, with swirls of color that touched and broke away like waves, but was it award-worthy?
Eliza turned to her, face a mixture of excitement and seriousness. "You have to! What do you have to lose?"
She was right, Peggy knew. And this could be the perfect way to show what she could do.
"...Help me register?"
Eliza grinned.
"Pegs!" Peggy laughed as Hercules pulled her into a bear hug. "Awesome painting, brah."
"You totally crushed it." Laurens agreed, ruffling her hair. She ducked, grinning up at them. She'd been smiling so much all day, her face was starting to hurt.
"Are Laf and Alex here?"
"Yup. They went to go see the animals, but they should be here any minute now."
A pair of arms wrapped around her from behind.
"Angie!" She giggled.
"Let me see." Angie settled her hands on her hips, and Peggy presented the shining blue ribbon to a chorus of oohs.
"I knew you'd be great," Eliza said proudly, and Peggy blushed.
"Who's on for celebratory fair food?" John announced. "I saw a stand for deep-fried donuts back there."
A round of whoops followed as they made their way over. Peggy tucked the ribbon into her pocket and beamed.
From guest reviewers: Could you do a Lams (or just friendship works too)/sad or hurt/argument? I have one like this in chapter 3, but I'd love to do another! (This one's more bickering than anything, whoops!)
"Go. To. Bed."
"No."
"Alex. You are sick. You do not go to a two-hour-long lecture if you're sick."
"I'm paying for these classes! And making up work is a nightmare. I don't have a choice, John—"
"You're right, you don't." John didn't let Alex's look of triumph last long. "I'm making you stay here." He ignored Alex's indignant squawks of protest and went on. "You have a fever, you're barely staying upright, and you just pulled three all-nighters in a row. God help me if I let you leave this dorm for the next week."
"But my classes—"
"Have someone bring you the work."
Alex muttered something incoherent.
"What?"
"The only person I know there is Jefferson." He threw in a few choice words before the man's name and John pressed his lips together.
"So ask him."
"I can't just ask him, John! Last week he humiliated me in front of our entire group!"
"It's either that or miss the assignments," John said evenly, pushing Alex back into bed. "I can talk to him for you if you want."
Alex sighed, long suffering, and collapsed onto his pillows. He really did look awful, with his eyes bloodshot and tan skin pale and clammy. "Fine." A pause, and then, "Thanks."
"No problem," John said, already pulling on his jacket. Just before he stepped out the door, he snatched Alex's laptop from the counter. "Oh, and no working while I'm gone! Sleep!"
"John—!"
Could you do one where Theodosia sr and Eliza stop their boyfriends from getting in a fist fight/ modern AU highschool?
"Excuse me?"
Alexander's voice was like ice as he glared daggers at Burr's infuriatingly impassive face.
"I'm just telling it like it is," Burr said coolly. "Your essay is...flawed. You're letting your emotions bleed into the details so often it's impossible to get any real facts."
"It's full of facts! They're just not from sources you agree with!"
"The point of an essay is to present both sides of the argument, not just your own."
"The point of a persuasive essay is to persuade the reader," Alex bit out. "It's not my fault you're too content straddling the fence to even think about voicing opinions like that."
A flash of anger struck through Burr's eyes and Alex laughed inwardly in triumph. To anyone else, Burr would seem neutral as ever, but Alex had long since learned that his eyes would give him away. Windows to the soul, indeed.
"At least when I write, I don't drown the reader in sarcasm and dismissals," Burr hissed, keenly aware of the onlookers sending glances their way as they were passed in the hall. "It's messy, Alexander. You wanted my help? There. You've got it."
"Alex." He corrected, eyes narrowing dangerously. "And you seem pretty confident for someone who hasn't let anyone read his supposed works for years. Are you too embarrassed your prose would give away—" he mock gasped for effect, "—feelings?"
Burr's face twisted into something furious for a split second before he regained the last shreds of his composure. Voice low and steely, he leaned in and murmured with hot breath on Alex's face.
"The pity of strangers might have gotten you off that trash island, but you'll need more than that if you expect to become anything but a bastard orphan here."
Alexander's fist was smashing into his nose before Burr could pull away. There was a sickening crunch, and then Burr's hand was flying up to try and stem the blood pouring from it, eyes on fire with a rage strong enough to match Alex's. Alex was suddenly aware of the pressing swarm of students ogling at them. Oh, shit. Burr raised a shaking hand, the other still holding his face, and swung.
"Aaron, stop!"
"Alexander!"
Alex dodged the punch, both boys going still at the familiar voices, though their fists remained clenched. Theodosia Bartow and Eliza Schuyler were pushing their way through the crowd to reach them.
"Babe, what happened?" Theodosia produced a tissue, holding it up against Burr's nose, as he sneered at Alex.
"A minor misunderstanding."
She tsked, delicately wiping away the blood that had gotten onto his neck and collarbone. "Come on, then, to the nurse with you." She led him away, exchanging a wry look with Eliza as they left.
The students dispersed not long after, the knowledge that there would be no more action to be seen scattering them back to their lockers. Eliza rounded on Alex as soon as they were alone.
"Fighting on school grounds, Alex, really? You could be suspended!"
"You didn't hear what he said." Alex muttered, not meeting her eyes. Eliza sighed.
"I'm sure he deserved it, but you can't go throwing punches like that." She tapped his chin and he looked at her. "Whatever it was, it doesn't define you. You know that, right?"
She brushed a thumb over his knuckles and kissed his cheek, and Alex let himself believe it.
"Right."
"Don't let me catch you doing that again." She murmured. Alex smiled.
"Yes, ma'am."
Let me know what you think in the reviews, and thanks for reading!
