Sleep was hard to come by.
Her mind kept wondering, what this adventure was, what was going to happen? What were they looking for? But she couldn't figure out the answer to it. Her eyes finally grew heavy enough to fall asleep, but as she did, she heard a startling crash.
Then a scream followed!
"Mom!"
Yua just about got out of bed until she heard the fight erupting down stairs. "GET YUA AND RUN!" she heard her father yell.
Yua froze as her brother came bursting through the door. "We got to go, now!"
"But mom and dad…"
"NOW!" ordered Shin.
He pulled her to the bedroom window. Just as she was about to go out of it, a monster came through!
Shin was quick to strike it down, but found there were others waiting outside for them! "Shit, shit, shit!" he cursed.
"Shin, what's going on! Why are they all here?" she cried.
"I don't know!" he snapped back. "We got to get out of here…"
But then Yua remembered. Under her bed, her father always kept a weapon for them just in case. She reached and grabbed the swords taped to the top of her bedframe, she tossed one to her brother and kept the other one for herself. "We're going to fight our way out!" she stated.
He nodded in agreement. With their sword drawn, they rushed out of the room, slashing and hacking at any and all curses that got in their way. They cleared the top of the stairs and rushed down. Yua froze as she held back the tears.
Her parents were torn to shred.
"Mom… dad…"
"Mourn later, we got to go!" Shin shouted.
She held back her tears and nodded, they rushed out of the house. But found the front was surrounded. These things…. Why were they here? What did they want from them? "Shin…" she whispered.
"I know… try and take as many as you can down with you…"
Something in her snapped, Yua went in with her sword drawn, she hacked and slashed her way through the masses of curses, losing track of her own brother in the mad slaughter. She would go on for a few hours, until fatigue reared its ugly head. She grew so tired from the fighting, and they kept coming.
These things kept coming despite how many of them laid dead. "What… what did we do to them?" she asked.
She fell to her knees as one of the curses licked their lips at the sight of her.
She nearly passed out until she heard a voice. "You things are just a pain in my ass…"
It was like a shock wave erupted, the curses gathering around her somehow repelled off! She turned to see a young man with black sunglasses. He smiled to her. "You did quite good, let me take it from here."
She merely nodded before collapsing…
#
"She's the only survivor?"
"I got to the brother, he was barely alive. When we got him treatment though… he couldn't pull through, poor kid…"
Her eyes fluttered open.
Yua looked about the room and saw the man with the black sunglasses speaking to another with a rather calm look on his face. "Oh look, she's up!"
"What… what happened?" she asked weakly.
The two exchanged looks. "Yua Tooru… it pains me to say you are the sole survivor of your family." The calm man explained. "Tonight, curses appeared to have banded together… and sought out your family for extermination. You are the only one to survive."
It took a while for that to sink into her. Yua couldn't have conceived the thought of it all, but then, it hit her all at once.
She remembered seeing her parents torn to shreds. She then began to see glimpse of her brother as he was also torn apart, but somehow, kept fighting.
How could she be the only one to survive?
The tears were quick to stream down her face, the thought of it scared her. She was alone in the world.
"Let me talk with her," said the man with the sunglasses.
His friend nodded and left the room.
She looked into his face, but felt there was something familiar about him. He then revealed his eyes to her.
"Gojo?" she asked.
He smirked. "One and only…"
"Why… why were they after my family?" she wept.
He didn't know, but all the understood was the Tooru clan was wiped out for a strange reason. "Curses work in strange ways and methods. I can't answer that for you. But it appeared to be a hit, this was too organized to be random, let alone to target one family." He explained. "Did anyone within your ancestry possess anything? Cursed object?" he asked.
She shook her head to him. "We were going on an adventure according to my father, but he never said to what…"
Gojo nodded, but paused. "What's around your neck?"
She reached into her shirt and showed him the fanged pendent given to her by her mother. He paused to it, but then nodded. "I see," he said gently. "Keep that close to you."
It took her a few days to recover, when she was allowed to go home again, the house was ransacked to say the least. Blood was everywhere still, yet she managed to find one thing.
The papers her father had lying around on the table, the ones that made him excited and brought her mother to tears. They were hidden under the couch of all places but there were intact.
Curiosity got the better of her as she went over them. There were maps, locations and ruins that her father circled. There were letters from distant family members who have now been declared dead from the attack. One was from her uncle in Tibet. "This is promising, bring the family along for more details, we will need all the help we can get." Was what he wrote.
Yua wondered what was so fascinating about Tibet of all places. Was this were her father was going to take them?
She searched a little more and found the plane tickets. They were going to Tibet! Yua slowly stood as she held the tickets in hand, did she dare to go?
There was nothing left for her here, no home, no family… whatever this was, it was important to her father and her mother. The only thing she could do now was see it through. But first, she had to bury the dead.
