"Eeeeelsa..." Anna peeked around the corner and then pranced up to her sister's bedroom. "Elsa?" She asked, and did her signature knock. When no one answered, she pushed open the door and looked around. The bedroom was empty, and it looked like no one had been there other than slightly ruffled blankets.
Anna walked down the hallway and brightened up when she saw Kai. "Hey Kai, have you seen Elsa?" She asked. The chamberlain stopped balancing the tray he was holding with a coffee mug and toast.
"Her Majesty is in her study," He responded. "She has a council meeting in the next hour, so she is preparing, and I'm bringing her coffee to help." Sensing her reason to want for Elsa's company, he added, "If you'd like company, I can send for Kristoff."
"Thank you, Kai, but I think I'll go find Elsa instead," Anna replied, and walked to her study. "Elsa?" She asked, knocking on the door.
"Come in," Elsa's muffled voice floated through the door. Anna turned the knob and pushed the door open to find Elsa looking slightly maniac surrounded by paperwork. Anna sighed. "It's Christmas, Elsa. Why are you still working?"
"I just have to finish this last paper..." She muttered. Anna took a look at the stack of paper and shook her head, laughing slightly. "You work too much and take breaks too little. C'mon, how about when you finish your meeting we go build a snowman?" Anna asked, bouncing slightly in anticipation. Elsa looked at her with weary eyes. "I just have to finish these and I can spend time with you. I'm really, really stressed right now, though. Anna."
Anna huffed. "I'm going to find Kristoff, then." Elsa watched her go.
And then as soon as Anna was out in the hallway, Elsa giggled quietly to herself as she took out the plans for the celebration.
"Kristoff!" Anna called, walking into the stables. "Kristoff, where- oh, there you are." He was hitching up Sven and the sled.
"I'm going to the mountain for ice. We're going to need a lot of it for the-" Kristoff snapped his mouth shut.
Luckily, Anna was only half paying attention. "Hmm? Did you say something, Kristoff?"
"No," He said immediately, and maybe a little too quick.
"Oh, okay then. When will you be back?" She asked. "Oh, maybe like, an hour, or 3, or 24..." Kristoff trailed off.
"So you're not sure," Anna said bluntly. Kristoff sighed. "Yep." He finished preparing. "Well, I'll see you later," Kristoff said, smiling a little.
Anna sighed. It seemed it was going to be a lonely Christmas.
"Gerda, why is everyone so busy?" Anna asked. Gerda cleared her throat. "Your Highness, we are busy because the holidays are almost here. There might be people visiting from other countries or perhaps a..." Gerda muttered "celebration" so quiet Anna didn't hear it. "Oh. Okay then." Anna sighed and looked for something else to do.
Just as Anna left, Elsa let out a breath and stepped out from behind a tree. "That was close," She said, laughing a little. "Is everything ready?" Gerda nodded. "Yes, Your Majesty."
"Alright," Elsa said, smiling. She stepped out into the hallway and quickly found Anna.
Anna instantly brightened up. "Oh, you're here! Finished with everything?" Elsa smiled. "Yes. Anna," She said, doing her best to look nonchalant, "What do we do every year on Christmas?"
"We ring the Yule bell and do our Christmas tradition," Anna replied. Elsa smiled wider. "But not just that," She said, stopping in front of the double doors to the courtyard.
"We have a feast." She said, laughing, and threw open the doors. There were many townsfolk there, milling about. They immediately stopped in their tracks when they saw the two sisters, and they bowed. Anna gasped. "Wow, Elsa!" Elsa pulled her to the rope attached to the Yule bell, and Kristoff and Olaf joined them. Anna laughed, and they pulled on the rope, ringing in the season.
