Chapter One
Katara looked up from where she was sitting at her desk in the library. There was Zuko, pouring over a scroll, the light of the candlelight illuminating him face. She couldn't help but stare at his handsome eyes and features, his perfect jet black hair, and his creamy skin.
She sighed and returned to her scroll.
Earlier that evening, they had gotten in an argument at dinner on whether the Painted Lady was canonically a water bender, and that had stemmed into an argument on whether the Blue Spirit was actually a good guy. There was a screaming match, followed by a bending match (all in good fun, of course), and they had hit the scrolls to find out who could find the best evidence to back up their argument.
That's where they were now, the clock on the library wall ticking towards two in the morning, trying to outsmart the other through the scrolls.
Even if she didn't particularly enjoy research, Katara loved the fall and winters she spent with Zuko in the Fire Nation. She had her schedule down pat: colder months spent in the warm Fire Nation with Zuko, spring and early summer spent in the Water Tribes visiting family or being a diplomat up north, and late summer and early fall traveling the Earth Kingdom and practically all over the world with Toph and Aang. She loved the time she spent with everyone, even if she preferred the time with Zuko.
The later months she spent with Aang and Toph had been awkward right after Aang and Katara's break up (though it was on good terms, it was just weird seeing someone you were so close with suddenly not that close with you), but it improved when Toph and Aang got together...though she often felt like a third wheel.
She loved the winters she spent with Zuko, though. Every second (even if they were miffed at one another). She just wished there was something...more.
You see, Katara had had feelings for Zuko since (and even in the later stages in her relationship) she broke up with Aang. At first, she tried to dismiss it as just a really, really, reallygood friendship, since he was still with Mai, but she couldn't repress it.
She was in love with the Fire Lord.
