A/N: The Journey! A quick look at how the Saiyans are interacting with each other in a slightly cramped spaceship, on a month long journey from Planet Vegeta to Planet Earth.
Chapter 1: The Journey
Queen Talea awoke peacefully in her room in the spaceship, being royalty gave her perks, even among what could be the last of her people. But the special attention still makes her feel odd at times. She wishes she could go back to just being called Talea by anyone. She took quickly to Gine for that reason, despite being older, Gine was such a natural mother. It had been only 4 days since they began the journey, and she did a professional job at keeping the kids in line.
At first it was amusing watching her threaten and punish the kids. But then, when she began to get too 'queenly' as Gine put it, Gine would keep her in line as well. That was annoying for a second, but Talea realized that she missed the kind of treatment that made her feel like one of the common people. She arose from her bed, the ship wasn't large but it held the 20 of them well enough.
She entered the common area to see most of the children sitting at the table, ready to eat as Gine chopped up the meat for their breakfast. "Good Morning Talea, I trust you slept well." Gine greeted in a kind voice.
Talea smiled at her title-less name, "Yes, very well. Couldn't help but wake up to your cooking though." Talea responded kindly as she sat down with the children. She looked at Toma, "Good morning Toma. How are we doing?" Talea asked curiously.
Toma sighed, he appreciated the promotion and responsibility bestowed on him, but this is the 4th day she has asked the same question. The ship was newer than any other ship in the Saiyan armada. Too new to have any issues. But still, she was the queen. "We're doing great my Queen. Expected to arrive in about three weeks." Toma said, faking enthusiasm. "I am going to continue training some of the younger kids as the older ones go through the basics. Fasha will keep an eye on the scope to make sure we avoid any Frieza Force radars."
Queen Talea nodded at that as Gine put a large pork cut on the table. Fasha finished first and went to the cockpit of the ship. 4 days and routine had formed with that girl. She would always wake first, eat first, finish eating and retreat to the scanners. She would even be served food in the cockpit so as to not be pulled away. Toma spent a good amount of time eating then he would take the 6 oldest kids or the 6 youngest and train them until lunch.
It concerned her at first, but she realized that they had a job. Being a queen, she only spent maybe 1 hour a day doing actual work, and even then, it was work that the King just did not want to do. In the past few years of her life since she became Queen, she didn't actually have to do any work if she didn't want to, but now, she is going to help being in charge of a village of Saiyans.
"Toma, perhaps I can train some of the older Saiyans. It's been a bit since I've fought seriously, but I still have some skills I can teach." Talea offered as Gine and Toma were taken slightly aback.
"If that is your wish my Queen, you are more than welcome to do so." Toma said incredulously as Talea waved it off.
"And no more of this Queen stuff. I'd appreciate it if I were simply referred to by my name, understood?" Talea asked as Gine smiled at this, perhaps the queen wasn't as snooty as she believed. It'll be an uphill battle to build shelter when they arrive, they'll all have to pitch in to build shelter and find food and it'll be so helpful if Talea pulled her weight.
-One Week Later-
It has been two weeks since they left Vegeta, Talea had begun getting up the same time as Gine to help with the cooking and she would continue to teach some of the children some fighting techniques.
"Hey Talea, I know you're in the middle of training, but could you take Fasha her lunch?" Gine asked as Talea turned her head in confusion.
"Are you sure? Fasha doesn't seem to care for me." Talea stated as Gine nodded.
"I think she just needs to get to know you. After all, we'll all be living and working together on Earth. She's just frustrated from being uprooted from her home and being sent to a strange planet based on Bardocks whim. Just get to know her a little bit." Gine offered as Talea nodded and grabbed Fashas lunch.
Talea knocked on the cockpit and entered. "Hey Fasha, lunchtime!" Talea chimed out cheerfully.
Fasha let out a loud groan at the sound of Talea's voice. Talea set the tray down at the center of the darkened room. She looked out the window to see all the stars. It was beautiful, hardly believable at times. "It's amazing!" Talea exclaimed in wonderment.
Fasha sighed annoyed, "Why are you still in here? Don't you have kids to serve you?" Fasha asked as Talea frowned.
"Do you have something against me? Or is it just because of my title?" Talea asked of Fasha as the younger girl just groaned and turned away from the queen and gave her the silent treatment.
Talea scowled, "Fasha, we're all starting new lives. I'm doing my best to put my title in the past. If we're going to co-exist, I hope you can do the same." Talea offered as she stood to leave, "If we cannot, then I will build shelter as far from you as possible, perhaps we can limit interaction." Talea said as she left the room.
Fasha rolled her eyes, no need for such dramatics. She may not be happy about it, but she could easily co-exist. Fasha got up and picked up a large bird leg off the plate and began eating it as she pulled out a picture of her mother, her father and her Aunt, "Not that title, your other title." Fasha said to herself as she put the picture away.
-One Week Later-
Toma stood over the male Saiyans laid out on the ground, "Pitiful. Amar, you're the oldest here and you let Raditz best you? You should have seven more years of experience than him. How did you get so out of shape?" Toma berated the young man.
Amar rose to his knees, "You've been training with Raditz longer than I have. I'm not used to this style of fighting! Papa used to say that all I needed was strength over my opponent! I never imagined fighting to keep my enemy off balance, or to use speed. I'm not at fault!" Amar exclaimed as he received a kick to the gut.
"You followed his lessons. You should question every lesson! Including my lessons, I'm new to teaching just as you are new to these lessons. We have had 3 weeks of training though. You have had enough time to adapt to the lessons." Toma explained as Raditz stood up and walked over to Amar.
"Yeah Amar, what's your excuse? Just adapt." Raditz taunted, Toma looked over at Choy and nodded as she quickly took Raditz down.
Toma sighed, "No taunting Raditz. Amar is right, strength important but you can't let your guard down, especially to get a quick word in." Toma said exasperated. "That's enough training today, spar with each other for a while before bed. I have to check out the trajectory."
Toma retreated to the cockpit where Fasha had her legs kicked up, "I don't suppose you're sleeping on the job, are you?" Toma asked facetiously.
Fasha scoffed, "We've been out of reach of the entire Cold Empire for literally 4 days." She explained as she stood and stretched, "It's such a straight shot we could probably ramp up the speed and get there ahead of schedule." Fasha stated as almost excitedly.
"You're desperate to get off this ship and away from Talea, aren't you?" Toma asked as Fasha narrowed her eyes into a squint. "Have you considered talking to her? She's been very helpful with the chores and training for most of our time on the ship. I'm sure she'd be open to getting to know her niece." Toma stated as Fasha raised her nose at him.
"She ignored my mother since she became the queen. Even when my mother, her sister, who she was supposedly so close with, died. If she didn't want to be a part of my family, then she won't be a part of my family." Fasha ranted as she crossed her arms defiantly.
Toma placed his hands on her shoulders and turned her towards him, "I understand your ire. I'd be furious if I had family that refused to take me in after my father was killed. But at the end of the day, she is the only family you have, and we have a new beginning coming up." Toma said comfortingly as he rubbed Fasha's back as they embraced.
"New beginning until we go back to Vegeta. I mean c'mon, what are the odds that Frieza actually destroys the planet?" Fasha chuckled off the threat as Toma sighed.
"I was there Fasha, Bardock actually had a premonition. We will be the very last Saiyans in the universe." Toma stated as Fasha scoffed. "I was skeptical at first as well, but that Kanassan woman's warning kept me up for days. When Bardock told me of this assignment, I felt the weight of that warning lift. The last time I felt a weight like that was when Bardock told me my father was killed in action. So I'm choosing to trust Bardock, because regardless of whether he is right or wrong, he did what he could to make sure the Saiyan race would continue on." Toma explained as Fasha sat at the radar.
Toma sat in the pilot seat and smiled, "But I don't see why we can't pick up the pace." He said as he set the speed twice as fast as they were already going. "After all, we only have enough fuel to get there, why waste time not using it."
Fasha was about to turn towards him to ask when a beep came across the Galactic Patrol newsfeed. The Headline brought a chill up her spine. 'BREAKING: Planet Vegeta destroyed by Comet. No survivors.'
Toma had also seen the headline as the speed increased and exhaled before standing up and leaving the cockpit. Fasha was still in a state of shock, she couldn't believe it. She and her fellow passengers and Saiyans were officially an endangered species. Try as she might, she could not stuff back her emotions and she broke down crying, alone, in a cockpit, in a spaceship hurdling through space to an unknown planet with 19 other Saiyans.
Toma had retreated to his room, a bit more stoic. His surrogate father had passed away in a giant explosion of a planet while his surrogate mother and brothers slept in a different room. Bardock would not want him to cry, but train for a potential chance at avenging their race. Based on their increased speed, they would arrive on Earth in 2 days. They'll have more room to train, allowing him to ramp up his students training.
"I will avenge the Saiyan Race, this I swear to you Bardock, in the name of my father, and my mentor." Toma swore as he began training on his own, far too awake to sleep in any way shape or form.
-Arrival, 2 Days Later-
Toma was sitting in the pilot seat, doing his best to carefully set the ship down at the agreed coordinates. It's a lush mountainous region, devoid of life of any Native Earthlings, perfect to build a settlement where they can farm and live in peace. As Toma landed the ship the rest of the Saiyans were just waking up, despite the turbulence of entering the atmosphere, the Saiyans slept pretty soundly.
Toma and Fasha, who was still quiet from the news she received just a couple days ago, left the cockpit for what was most likely the last time and greeted their fellow Saiyans.
"Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen." Toma began with faux enthusiasm as he approached the ramp and opened it up, "Welcome, to Planet Earth!" He exclaimed as a bright light greeted them as they got their first look at their new home.
Planet Vegeta was a red, desolate wasteland, devoid of plant-life like this. They had never seen so much GREEN! A waterfall was within a short hike of the landing zone, a rainbow shined from where the light of the sun was hitting it near the base of the creek. Brown creatures swung from tree to tree from their tails in the trees nearby.
"I-it's paradise." The 12 year old Okra stated as she stepped onto the ground, "I feel so light here compared to Vegeta." she said with a smile as she started hopping around.
Cabba and Aspra followed her as they began hopping around. Shugesh, Caro and Amar followed the brown creatures and began swinging through the trees with their own tails. The brown creatures were shocked by these tailed humans, but were happy to play with them as they all swung together.
Toma smiled as the kids ran off to play in the clearing they landed in. He looked to Fasha who looked like she hadn't slept since she learned of Vegeta's destruction, forgoing sleep to cry instead. It reminded him that he needed to tell everyone else.
He cupped his hands, "Gather around everyone, you can play later!" Toma called back all the Saiyans as they looked and gathered around the ship. "Now, first things first, we will continue using the ship as shelter until we have all shelters built. We have all day to start building, but I don't expect to finish in a day, after all Vegeta wasn't built in a day." Toma explained as the kids nodded in understanding.
Toma's expression turned hard, "But before we start, I have horrible news." Toma started, Gine and Talea could already tell what it was about, it had been two months since Bardocks premonition after all. Toma took a deep breath, "The Galactic Patrol reported it a couple days ago. Planet Vegeta was officially destroyed." Toma reported to them as all the kids sat in shock, "They're reporting it as a comet colliding with the planet, but we know the truth. That Tyrant Frieza destroyed our home planet."
The kids were shocked at that fact. They didn't have a clue as to why they were making this trip. Most of them were told it was an experiment in colonization. They were told it was a drill, for a contingency plan, not the actual contingency.
"I understand that this might be a shock to most of you. A lot of you left family behind for this mission. I encourage you to deal with your emotions later, we have jobs to do, for this is our home now. This planet is so far off of Frieza's radar that they will never think to look here. The average power level of the Earthlings is 5 units. We have no quarrel with them, so we will stay away from all Earthlings. This is not a mission to conquer, but to survive and thrive." Toma knew he sounded a bit uncaring, but the Saiyans must survive, so he cared little for his tone.
"Let's get to work!" He exclaimed as the children slowly stood and spread out to their respective tasks, albeit slowly. They picked up the pace as the day went on, but none of them had really talked or interacted with each other like kids should. As the sun began to set, they had all retreated to the ship. They made good progress in building a communal area, setting up a water-retrieving system, hunting some of the wildlife and even hiding the ship in brush. But none were ready to speak.
Gine set the food down on the table of the ship, "I know we have all suffered a great loss. But the Saiyans will endure as we always have. We will begin anew. Remember, whatever doesn't kill us, will make us stronger." Gine said in a comforting motherly tone as the Saiyans slowly began eating.
End Chapter
I was going to have a whole chapter dedicated to their arrival, but I changed my mind. Next chapter will be Vegeta-centric. Still a child but he will learn his way around. He hardly knows of his royal heritage because of his age.
I wanted to include a slight conflict among a couple Saiyans, so Talea has no knowledge of her niece, Fasha and that's pissing Fasha off.
One review I got was that Vegeta is five years older than Goku... in canon, yes. I should like to point out that this IS AN A/U.
A few things that were retconned by Dragon Ball Minus, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly were that Bardock wasn't gifted premonitions by the last Kanassan; Bardock didn't really have much of a team, he seemed to have a partner, but that guy's name was never given; So I retconned Toma to be a student of and adopted son to Bardock.
One huge thing that I have personally retconned in this story... is the fact that SEVERAL Saiyans are going to Earth, not just Goku.
Please Read & Review. I am currently working on Chapter 3 while watching Star Wars.
