Thanks Kaeru Mizumi for her!

Anstasia "Taysie" Angler

District 4, Female, 18

Anastasia sat at the very front of the room, as she chewed on her pen lid. It was another boring day at the North Academy, she had always felt pride by getting into the best Academy in 4. The North Academy had a high reputation and even higher standards. Almost every year, somebody from the North Academy would be chosen to volunteer when the managers of each would compare statistics on choosing day.

Choosing day happened to be the very day that Anastasia was chewing away at her pen lid. Maybe that's why maybe she was just nervous. She was never too fidgety and always was attentive and a good listener during class but as Mrs. Alkeim went on about javelin-throwing techniques, she couldn't help but let her mind drift. It's not that she didn't like javelins, of course, she much preferred the bow and arrow, but she could confidently use any ranged weapon.

The one thing her mind kept drifting back to was being chosen for The Hunger Games. She couldn't help it, it was the one thing she wanted most in life, the one thing that would bring glory to her name and her family. She wanted it so damn bad and yet she knew there were people better, more deserving of it. She imagined her Mother's beaming face and her Father's calm proud smile as she came home to break the news.

All she wanted was to be celebrated by her parents. She didn't know why she loved the same people who blamed her for everything, why she wanted their validation, but it was the one thing that made her want to strive for her goals. She felt saddened as she thought about, her sad life, just another trainee out of the thousands.

"Class dismissed, good luck." Mrs. Alkeim announced and turned back to rub some equations off the board. She snapped back into consciences as she felt a tap on her shoulder and had turned around to see the warm, shy smile of her best friend Jess.

She stood up and pushed her chair back under her desk as she grabbed her set of books and shoved them into the backpack that was hanging off her shoulder. With a deep breath, she made her way to the Sports Hall with everyone else. Some kids didn't even bother attending, they knew they wouldn't get it. As Anastasia walked in she saw the crowd was mostly filled with 17, 18-year-olds such as herself and their parents.

She took a couple of glances around the room but was unsurprised to see no sign of her parents. She was disappointed but it took some of the pressure off her shoulders of being chosen. Her parents wouldn't be there to see if she failed but they wouldn't be able to see if she did it either. She and Jess took a seat on the 3rd bleacher up and began to talk.

"I'm nervous. I mean, this could be my year, Jess!" She exclaimed as Jess nodded.

"Don't get your hopes up, we'll see."

"Yeah, yeah, I know. It's exciting, though." Jess smiled and nodded. She didn't talk very much which Anastasia liked because she loved to talk, especially about herself.

"Good luck, Taysie." Jess squealed as she squeezed her hand and a whistle blew. A tall stern lady blew a whistle and stood up upon a pedestal to face the crowds that gathered.

"Hello. I'm Jeanine Pinkleton, I'm here on behalf of Uriel May, the owner of this prestigious academy. I can announce that we do have a volunteer from here and from the West Academy."

Anastasia's hands had clearly begun to shake as she thought about the female spot being given to someone from West.

"I'm proud to announce the young lady that will be representing District 4 in the 98th Hunger Games is..."

Anastasia violently shook Jess's arm as she awaited the results.

"Amina Hargrove!"

A/N: Idk what's happening to me today. Anyway, hope you enjoyed our first career. I'm super excited to get to these Games because I have some fun things planned! For the most part, though, just going with the flowwww!
