Hello again readers! This chapter is focused around Ella and Heron's earlier years and when they first met.

The boy was shy. Very shy. His eyes were always filled with worry. Ella had never met anyone like him before. He was a new foundling. He had only been there for about a month. Unlike most of the other children, Ella was born a mandalorian. She had been born in the covert and had grown up there. She had met other foundlings before. Their faces were always struck with sadness and terror. They had been traumatized, watching their homes destroyed and their parents killed. But this boy's face was different. Even though they were scarred, the other foundlings were still eager to live the life of a warrior. He was never eager. He was always hidden somewhere. He never spoke to anyone but Din, never even looked at anyone but Din. Ella felt sadness in her heart whenever she saw the boy. He was so scared. She hoped that one day he would have courage. He was the only other child her age and she was hoping to make a new friend.

Ella watched as the boy silently walked through the covert. His feet made no sound on the metal floor. After many weeks he had finally been seen wearing the armor of their people. He had accepted the ways of the tribe. He looked good in it. Like a real fighter. Ella watched as he grew closer to her. She was hanging from a pipe on the "ceiling" of the sewers. Again and again she had tried to speak to him, and again and again he had run off or hid somewhere. Now she would finally get to talk to him. Ella jumped down from where she was in front of the quiet child, who jumped back and shrieked.

"Oh! I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you!" Ella tried to tell him.

He jumped up and gasped for air. His eyes were lined with tears waiting to spill out.

"Why did you do that?" He asked, having a small panic attack.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just wanted to talk to you."

"No. No. You can't just do that! Don't scare me like that!"

"I really am sorry," she protested.

Ella stepped forward to help him but he shoved her onto the ground. He was stronger than she thought. Much stronger.

"Please, you keep running away when I try to talk to you."

Now it was his turn to apologize.

"I'm sorry. I just get so anxious. These people are scary."

"Well that's kind of the idea. We're supposed to be scary."

"That's not a good way to live."

"It's the way of the Mandalore. It's our way."

"It's a pretty crappy way."

"Don't worry. You'll fit in with us fine."

"I don't want to fit in here. I just want to go home. I want to be with my mother, my father, my friends. But they're all gone."

Ella felt pain in her heart watching the innocent child cry. She didn't know what it was like to lose someone close to her. Everyone she ever loved was a mandalorian. Everyone she ever cared about was alive.

"I'm sorry you lost your family," Ella said trying to be caring for the boy, "I know it's scary. I can help you. It won't be that bad. You will make friends and learn how to fight. This will be your home. I'm Ella by the way," Ella said, putting her hand out.

"Heron," he said, shaking her hand.

Heron. What a beautiful name.

Thank you so much for reading. This chapter was a little off, I know. I'm planning on making most of these chapters short so there will be more of them. They will also come out sooner than the chapters in Heron's Wings. Please give me feedback and have a good day! (Or night)
