Elizabeth POV
CH.3
I tune out most of the Ceremony. But when Beatrice Prior's name is called, she chooses dauntless as well. I wonder how people are going to react to that, 2 abnegations transfer to dauntless.
When the Ceremony finally ends, all of the dauntless dash out of the building. I ignore the shooting pain that goes through my body. They all start to climb the bars, and I do the same. I can feel the hot blood dripping down my back. When I reach the top, I see a train approaching us. I guess we have to just cling on, and get into the cart. I can hear people talking, but I'm in too much pain, and trying to concentrate very hard.
When the train comes, I start running, and finally grab the handle. I threw myself in, and ended up banging my right hand on the side. This turns out to be the same hand I got burned on. I feel the edges of my vision turning black, and try to keep the tears in. I just sit in a corner alone in the cart.
I am just getting up from my position, and someone yells,"Time to jump!"
I am not surprised though, I expected this from dauntless.
I go to the other side of the train, and sprint to the door. I use the momentum well, and launch myself forward. I land on the roof of a building. The momentum gave me a forceful landing, and when my feet touched the ground, my knees buckled, and I fell straight on my back. I wince and groan, that was agonizing. I could feel the blood seep through the last layer of my shirt. I have to be more careful.
I am still on the floor and am trying to get up, when I see a hand standing out to me. I see who this hand belongs to. It is a tall man, with dark brown hair. His eyes are hazel, and are filled with kindness. His mouth is turned upward into a pleasant smile. I grab his hand and pull myself up.
"I'm Uriah," he says. So that's his name. "What's your name?" he continues.
I think about it, "Elizabeth" sounds very abnegation.
"Eliza" I state firmly.
Our eyes lock and we stare at each other for what seems like an eternity. Then he turns aways and breaks the silence.
"Time to go Eliza," he said delicately.
I quickly dust myself off, and follow him to the ledge of the building. Everyone seems to be gathered there.
When I get there I see a few people, 1 with black and greasy hair. He has so many piercings in his face I could barely count. The other one has black hair, and seems a bit older. I notice both of them have the same tattoo's. It must be something they do in Dauntless. There is silence until the older man speaks up.
"My name is Max, and this is Eric," he says, initiating the man with the piercings.
"We are leaders in Dauntless" he continues
"In order for you to reach Dauntless, you must jump off this building." He says, while earning a few gasps.
A few people ask questions like "is there water at the bottom?" or " what happens if you don't jump?"
"So, who's going first?" Max asks.
At first no one speaks up, then someone breaks the silence, this is none other than Beatrice. "I'll go" she says, trying to sound firm, but I can hear her voice waver.
She steps up to ledge, and gulps. Then she bends her knees, and jumps.
After she jumps, I volunteer next. I know that the faster I get it done with the better.
I step up and look down. It feels like looking into an endless pit. I can feel my stomach turn.
I quickly bend my knees, and jump forward.
I feel the air rush past me, and for a moment, I feel like a bird in flight. It feels really good.
Then suddenly the moment ends, and I land back first into a net. The ruff net claws onto my back, and I cannot hold back the groan of pain that escapes me. I look to the side, and see many hands. I grab one and the man that pulls me up grabs my upper arm, and I grimace. I quickly hide it and dust myself off.
"Another stiff, unbelievable" a woman exclaims.
"Name, initiate" A low voice, grunts out angrily.
Why is this person so angry?
I look up to see who it is, and I am met with the same dark blue eyes that haunt all of my dreams. But these eyes aren't filled with coldness, they are calmer.
This man is none other than Tobias Eaton. My brother.
Author's Note: DUN DUN DUN... cliff hanger. She also meets Uriah in the chapter. This is a little fast paced and I like writing and describing her entrance. Follow me for frequent updates, and leave a review on what you think Tobias's reaction will be.
