To be perfectly honest with all of you, this chapter is.. well, I'm proud of it. Honestly, my plan was to finish it for all the Avengers before I post, and I probably won't be posting again in a LONG time, but I was just so proud of this... I had to post.
God, I'm sounding selfish right now, aren't I?
Here's "How You Meet", ft. your future boyfriend, Tony Stark.
Tony Stark: If your best friend isn't female, I don't think he will fit into this character. But you can try! :) My fics are always female readers unless stated otherwise!
You didn't like parties. You were a total introvert, and the idea of going to one of Tony Stark's people-filled parties made you want to gag.
It was simple. You found people frustrating, and hard to deal with.
Then, you mused thoughtfully, how did I end up at this party?
It was a question to ponder, that's for sure. Letting a soft smile slip onto your face, you recalled what had happened this morning, when your nerdy friend, (Y/BFF/N), had gushed to you about Tony's party.
"(Y/N)!" (Y/BFF/N) screams. "Did you hear!?"
"Hear what?" you ask nonchalantly, pretending you don't know what she's talking about. Of course, she and you both know what she is talking about. It just makes her happy when she can explain, so you always pretend.
"Tony Stark is hosting a party!"
You sigh at this news, huffing a little. Your reaction is completely genuine.
"When is he not?" you ask exasperatedly, throwing your hands into the air. Your friend laughs at your reaction and then continues, your reaction being a regular occurrence.
"Anyways, I read somewhere that commoners can get an invite to this party! The invites are hidden in candy bars around the city!"
"A bit… unoriginal, don't ya' think?" you mutter, thinking of the movie, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". (AN: Sorry about the unoriginality, and the OOC acting on Tony's part… but I felt like it anyways haha!)
"Well, yeah, but STILL!" your friend suddenly holds out a bunch of chocolate bars. Your eyes widen at the sight and you momentarily lose your sense of balance as you flop even further onto the bed that you are sitting on.
"Come on, let's open!"
Groaning you get up reluctantly.
"(Y/BFF/N)... aren't you an introvert? Just like me? Why- what's all this about!?"
"I don't know… I am an introvert, you know me! I'm super shy and all but.. Don't you think it'd be cool just to try? And maybe succeed? We might get to go to a high-end party and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity!"
You have to look away with the intensity of (Y/BFF/N)'s puppy eyes, and then you hesitantly give in.
"Fine. But only because I love you."
Your best friend squeals and you roll your eyes, beginning to unwrap candy bars. Since you don't waste food, you gently place the unwrapped candy bars into a bin so that you can eat the candy later. Maybe the candy won't taste the best, but at least (Y/BFF/N)'s money won't go to waste.
Half an hour later, you and (Y/BFF/N) flop down onto the bed in defeat.
"Great, we failed," you hear (Y/BFF/N) murmur softly. Turning towards them, your eyes soften. (Y/BFF/N) had been really hopeful, even though there were some flaws in her planning. For one, both of you couldn't go to the party together, since the chances of you finding two invites was rare.
You didn't even notice that you had started to unwrap another candy bar, one that you had bought after school before (Y/BFF/N) came over.
Bringing it to your mouth for a bite, you nearly ate it before-
"STOP!" screamed (Y/BFF/N), scrambling for the candy bar. You jumped and dropped the bar as (Y/BFF/N) lunged for it. "LOOK!"
(Y/BFF/N) waved the bar in front of your face, and you squinted, confused.
Then you saw it.
"A TICKET!"
You had tried. You really had tried. You had tried every tactic known to man to get (Y/BFF/N) to take the ticket and come. But she had insisted, because you had bought the bar with your money, that you had to go to the party.
To ease your guilt, you remembered that you hadn't relented, per se. You had simply been.. Well.. forced.
(Y/BFF/N) had shoved you onto your dresser, done your makeup hastily, and spun you into a knee-length, golden dress that hugged your body just right. She had then thrown you into an Uber (you had no idea when she had called for that) and waved to you as you simply sputtered the whole time.
"Hello gorgeous," whispered a husky voice from behind you, breaking you out of your thoughts.
You whirled around to face the one and only, Tony Stark, smiling at you with a twinkle in his eye.
"Uh- hi?" you asked, managing to regain your composure just enough to speak normally.
While most people would be enthralled with what was happening to you right now, you didn't find Tony Stark all that great. Oh sure, he was a genius and a superhero and all.. But science wasn't your thing, and you had always found Tony a bit… eccentric.
As for being Iron Man… Well, let's just say superheroes weren't exactly your thing either.
Stark, to his credit, hid his surprise at your totally unflustered aura.
"Enjoying the party?" he asked casually, leaning on the wall next to him just like you were.
Eyeing him, you pursed your lips.
You had honestly no idea what to say to that. Were you enjoying the party? I mean, sure. It was a party after all, and the music was relaxing.
But you didn't have anybody to relax with and you really didn't like the idea of mingling with tons of other people you didn't know.
So were you enjoying the party?"
"I don't know," you replied truthfully.
Tony nodded, and then gestured towards the dance floor.
"Wanna dance?"
You nearly said yes. Nearly. Then, you looked at the time and at all the people staring at you with envy written all over their faces and you decided that it was time to go.
"No thanks," you answered curtly, placing your drink on the table and heading for the door.
Before you could step out though, you heard a voice call for you.
"Wait!"
You turned around hesitantly and blinked at Tony.
"Yes?" you asked cautiously, feeling your heart thump.
"I didn't catch your name," Tony said, walking closer to you, and stopping when he was about a few feet away from you.
There was silence for a few moments.
"(Y/N), (Y/N) (Y/L/N)," you finally responded, knowing full well that he could run a scan on you and find out everything about you using FRIDAY.
You just couldn't bring yourself to care as you walked out of the room, all eyes on you.
