THIS STORY TAKES PLACE AFTER THE EVENTS OF PERSONA 5 ROYAL. SPOILERS AHEAD. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
I don't own Persona or any title related to it. All of that belongs to Atlus and you should go and support the official release.
Just then, everyone heard the bell to Leblanc chime and the door open.
However, as everyone in the cafe looked at the entrance, nobody saw a person enter. It was only when they heard someone clearing their throat that they looked down to see the new arrival. She was a small girl, seeming to be a child, dressed in a velvet blue dress that looked to be styled after a maid outfit. The black gloves that she wore ran the length of her arm, dissipating into the puffy sleeves of her dress, similar to her knee high socks. She also wore a blue and black headband with a butterfly ornament on each side along with a yellow rose. While the woman's outfit was so eye-catching it could be mistaken for other worldly, the feature that everyone seemed to linger on as they looked at her was her eyes. Bright glittering gold coins, moved from left to right as she scanned the cafe.
A small smile crossed her lips, "Hello." She bowed politely, adjusting the very large book with 'Le Grimoire' on the cover she had tucked under her arm.
Sojiro was about to open his mouth to question the new arrival, but was cut off by the collective scream of most of the Phantom Thieves, "LAVENZA!"
"Hello everyone, I hope my arrival did not interrupt the celebration."
Morgana got up once again and made his way toward the door, "Lady Lavenza. What are you doing here?"
Akira quickly joined his feline complainant, "Yeah, I thought my time in the Velvet Room was over. Did something happen?"
"There is no need to worry. There are no issues to speak of." She reached down to scratch Morgana's chin resulting in a pur of annoyance. "Is my presence an inconvenience?"
"No no no," waved Akira. "I'm honestly glad you're here, but It's just a surprise to see you."
Lavenza chuckled, "Do not worry my Trickster, I am simply engaging in what I believe to be called 'teasing'. As for why am I here," She opened the cover of the book and pulled out something. "I have a message from my master. For you and all your contributors."
"From Igor?" The name of the long-nosed man caused the Thieves to sit up in surprise. Of course the interactions between the group and Igor were only when they awoke in the velvet room, but the mysterious man's name called for their attention. Akira took the envelope from her and examined it. It was the iconic velvet blue with a gold floral trim around the edges and sealed with a wax seal featuring the letter V. Carefully breaking the seal, Akira opened the envelope and began to read the letter aloud.
Trickster,
Allow me to thank you once again for everything you have achieved. For not only defeating the Malevolent Will that sought to bring humanity towards sloth, but for holding true to your aesthetics and restoring reality to its rightful state. You and your contributors have far exceeded my expectations. I would have much preferred to thank you once again face to face, but unfortunately my time is rather scarce. Now free from the clutches of the Malevolent Will, I have many duties that need my attention. So I have sent Lavenza in my stead. I hope this is to your convenience. Once again, Thank you for all of your work young Trickster.
You were truly a marvelous guest.
Sincerely, Igor.
Akira could practically hear Igor's voice in his head accompanied by the anomalous smile. "Thank you Lavenza," he closed the letter and placed it back into the envelope. "Please give my thanks to Igor. It was an honor to be his guest."
"He'll be delighted to hear that." She now turned to the group of Thieves occupying the center of the cafe. "I must thank you all as well for fighting alongside my dear Trickster. While he is quite exceptional, doing what you have all achieved alone would have been impossible. "
Morgana smiled cheerfully,"It was our pleasure Lady Lavenza."
"Yeah," Ryuji threw his hands behind his head. "Not like we could just sit back and watch."
"Ryuji is correct. We were glad to assist in any way," Yusuke nodded his head.
"Additionally, I must also thank all of you," the velvet girl twirled and scanned the cafe. "The bonds you have formed with my Trickster gave him the strength to oppose the malevolent will. I thank you."
Everyone, even Takemi and Iwai, were completely confused. Despite their lack of understanding, a few smiled at the Velvet girl. "It was our Pleasure Miss," Yoshida smiled as he waved.
"I don't get what you're talking about, but it sounds like you're thanking us for helping Akira," Ohya grinned ear to ear. "No worries. But I think I speak for all of us when I ask this, Who are you?"
Lavenza blinked for a second then gasped in realization, "Oh my apologies. I should have introduced myself properly upon my arrival." She did a curtsy, "My name is Lavenza. It is a pleasure to meet you all. I believe no honorifics is necessary for such a casual occasion such as this party."
"Hello Lavenza," Hifumi smiled and began introductions. "I'm Hifumi Togo. Please call me Hifumi."
"Ichiko Ohya."
"Yukki Mishima."
"Sae Niijima."
"Toranosuke Yoshida."
"Sumire Yoshizawa."
"Chihaya Mifune. Chihaya is fine."
"Sadayo Kawakami."
"Tae Takemi."
"Shinya Oda. Just call me Shinya."
"Munehisa Iwai."
"Sojiro Sakura. Everyone just calls me Boss. Nice to meet you."
"Ah," Lavenza smiled at the cafe owner. "It is nice to meet you again Mr. Godkiller."
Eyes quickly went to Sojiro upon hearing her words and the man in question seemed just as confused as everyone else. "Sojiro…." Futaba spoke in a slow and questioning voice, like a mother asking a child what happened. "What is she talking about?"
He met the stares of everyone with the waving of his hands, "Don't look at me. I got no clue what she's talking about."
Akira decided to be the one to explain, "Boss, you remember those two twins that I brought into the cafe? I think it was around November."
Sojrio closed his eyes and looked back on past memories. "Oh yeah. Those weird looking twins. What about them?"
Akira just grinned as he looked down at Lavenza who puffed her cheeks at being called weird. "She is those twins."
There was exactly three seconds of silence as Sojiro looked back and forth at Akira and Lavenza. Of course, everyone else including the Phantom Thieves shared the same sentiment as the cafe owner. "Uhh… what do you mean? She's… both of them."
"Akira," Morgana stomped his paw on the table. "Can't you be subtle about anything? At least try to ease them in before dropping something like that. You're going to confuse everyone even more."
"Not my style," was all Akira said with a usual grin. His words earned both sighs and shakes of the head from the other Thieves.
"Do not worry, I will explain all in due time but first," Lavenza turned to Maruki. "You haven't introduced yourself."
He smiled and waved politely,"Ah pardon me, My name is Takuto Maruki. It's nice to meet you."
"Oh," Lavenza's eyes narrowed at the councilor. "Could you come here for a second Maruki?"
Albeit with a little hesitation, Maruki stood from his seat and walked towards Lavenza. The tall slender man towering over the velvet girl. She waved her hand up and down, " if you would please bend down for a moment."
Again, Maruki hesitated for a second but complied with the demand, but now everyone was curious as to what Lavenza was having the Councillor do.
They got their answer when Lavenza jumped into the air and smacked Maruki on the head with the spine of her large book, causing him to drop to the ground and lay there for a second. "Dr. Maruki," Sumire hopped out of her chair and rushed to his side to pick his face off the floor.
"I know very well who you are," Lavenza's tone was harsh and stern. Paired with her hands on her hips, Akira thought she looked like Caroline, so he elected to let her scold the Councillor and get it out of her system. Unless she tried to throw a Megadolion at the poor man. "You tried to alter the fabric of reality for your own will. Do you have any idea the potential damage you could have caused?"
Maruki figitted on the floor, pulling himself up while rubbing his head, "Oh you know about that."
"I do. Who do you think had to clean up your mess?" Lavenza's words shocked Maruki. "You caused me and my Master quite a bit of trouble. Altering reality to the extant you did is quite dangerous."
Maruki shifted his position to sit on his knees, "I'm sorry I caused you trouble."
"Honestly, if it were up to me I would have you executed," Akira swore Lavenza sounded just like Caroline with that statement. Everyone looked at the velvet girl with unease, not quite sure if she was joking or not. Only Akira knew that she wasn't. "However, since you share a special bond with my Trickster, I will look past it." She pointed a finger in Maruki's face, "But do not do it again."
"I won't,"Maruki rubbed the bump on his head as Sumire helped him to his feet.
"Ok. I have about a million questions," Ohya finally spoke up, her reporter curiosity getting the better of her as questions formed upon Lavenza's arrival. "The main one I have is what exactly is your connection to Akira?"
"For once, I agree with Ohya," Sojiro crossed his arms. "We're going to need some context here kid."
Akira rubbed the back of his head nervously, honestly unsure about where to begin. He hadn't expected to have Lavenza meet everyone. Sure she is a welcome addition to the party, but Akira knew that her presence would bring a myriad of questions. Before he could open his mouth, Lavenza clapped her hands to gather the attention of the whole cafe. "Fear not everyone, I will explain, but first I would like that black elixir I enjoyed last time. I believe it was called coffee."
Of course the others threw up their eyebrow at Lavenza's phrasing but said nothing. "All right," Akira motioned to the open seat at the bar, "Have a seat. I'll make you a cup."
"Thank you," Lavenza walked over and hopped up onto the seat while Akira made his way behind the bar. Sumire returned to her seat as well and Maruki took the seat next to Chihaya at the booth next to the door. Setting the large book in her lap, Lavenza cleared her throat, "Alright before I begin, I must state that I will omit some details from my explanation. Not for the sake of concealing the truth, but rather because the explanation would run far longer than I would like. It would be rather unpleasant for this day of celebration to be sidetracked by me. I hope you all understand."
Looks were shared amongst almost everyone. Of course the Thieves and Maruki knew the details. Sae and Sojiro were more in the loop than anyone, but they only knew about the Metaverse. "Under normal circumstances I would like to have all the details for something like this." Takemi tapped her finger against her cheek, "But, even I know when to not push my luck. So I'll just roll with it."
"Takemi-san is probably right," Shinya nodded. "I think it's a good idea to skip over the confusing stuff."
Quick nods from everyone was enough for Lavenza. "Thank you for placing your trust in me. Now, allow me to begin by answering your question… I believe it was Ohya correct?"
The reporter nodded, "Yeah. I asked what's your connection to Akira."
"Right, my connection to my Trickster is not too different from all of you in a way. I'm a contributor of sorts. My purpose was to aid in his growth as a Thief so that he could overcome the obstacles in his path."
"So you were his teacher," asked Kawakami.
"I suppose that is one way to look at it. It would be more accurate to say I simply gave him the tools to succeed. It was by his own strength that he achieved success."
"I hardly did it alone." Akira placed the cup of coffee in front of Lavenza. "I only got as far as I did because you and everyone were supporting me. Even if it wasn't the full you at the time, I wouldn't have made it this far without your help. Anyway, try the coffee. I'm not sure what you would like so I went with a combination of what Caroline and Justine had."
Lavenza chuckled, "Interesting approach. Let us see." The small girl swirled the liquid in her cup, taking in the smell before touching her lips to the cup. A small and delightful hum escaped her lips, "truly exemplary."
"Thank you. Learned from the best," Akira looked side-long at Sojiro with a cheeky smile.
"Oh, so you taught him how to craft this delicious elixir Mr. Godkiller. Thank you for teaching him such an incredible talent."
Sojrio opened his mouth to speak but Yoshida beat him to the punch, "Sakura-san, Why does she call you 'Godkiller'?"
"I can explain," Akira raised his hand. "She still thinks the fukujinzuke that you served with the curry back then was part of an actual God."
While everyone looked at the velvet girl, she seemed more surprised than they were, "Is it not?!"
"No," Sojiro answered with the shake of his head. "It's just regular vegetables. No dead God."
"I see." Lavenza placed her fingers on her chin and whispered, "It appears my knowledge of this world is still rather lacking." She shook her head, "I apologize for causing you trouble Mr.g-, oh I suppose that name is rather unfit now."
"Everyone just calls me Boss," Sojiro smiled at the girl. "Before anything, mind if I ask you a question now?"
Lavenza nodded her head after setting down her cup, "I presume you would like to ask me about how I went from two individuals to one." Sojiro nodded and she continued, "well, it would be more accurate to say that I was divided in half rather than two individuals."
Chihaya raised her eyebrow, "What do you mean Lavenza-san?"
"I sense that you all remember the day our group of Thieves fought the Malevolent Will."
A quick silence swept through the room and Akira wasn't surprised. When the sky turns read and huge cages of bone protrude from the ground, it's a hard memory to forget. "I remember," Iwai spoke from the end of the bar. "Kind of hard to forget something like that."
Sae nodded her head, "I do as well. But what does that have to do with anything."
"The Malevolent Will that I speak of sought to drown humanity in Sloth," Lavenza paused as she placed her fingers on her chin, "I will summarize the events as best I can. You see, the Malevolent Will hoped to to control reality by having the masses stop thinking for themselves. However, my Master and I saw fit to oppose it, believing in the potential of humanity. So it tried to destroy my Trickster, the one who we believed would bring about change in humans, by helping him reach great heights only to cast him into despair. In order to accomplish this, the Malevolent Will imprisoned my Master and divided me into the two individuals you met previously. Along with sealing away my memories."
Everyone was silent as they listened to Lavenza speak. Of course, some parts of her explaiton were quite hard to understand. But they all seemed to grasp the major details at least. "So that thing divided you in two and took your memories so you wouldn't be able to help Akira," Maruki summarized.
"Correct." Lavenza's gaze shifted to the floor, "While I was those two twins I used the word 'rehabilitation' many times, but my involvement was merely for surveillance. If not for the sheer will of my Trickster, humanity would have fallen into ruin."
"Don't sound so depressed Lavenza," Akira leaned forward on the edge of the bar as she looked up at him. "True you may not have been doing it for the reasons you thought at first. You still gave me the strength to face everything that came our way. Besides, you came through in the end didn't you."
"But that was only because of your efforts my dear Trickster," Lavenza smiled warmly. "Through everything, even as the fake sentenced you to execution, you rebelled and carved your own path. It was your will power that allowed me to regain my true form. Even when you were tempted by the Malevolent Will's deal, you refused. And it was the strength of your bonds with everyone here that gave you the strength to finally rid the world of its distortion."
She closed her eyes as the smile on her face grew wider, "You had great potential inside you from the very beginning. The trials you faced and people you've met along your journey helped cultivate that power into something far greater than I could have expected." She opened her eyes and met Akira's gaze, "You are truly exceptional, my Trickster."
"Thank you," he smiled softly and a comfortable silence filled the air.
It passed undisturbed for several seconds before a small clearing of a throat could be heard. Which, with both of them turning their heads, could see that it came from Morgana, "Remember that you guys aren't the only ones here."
The two chuckled a little as they looked at the cat, "Apologies Morgana." She gave a soft smile as she looked at the cat then to everyone else. "Now, I have concluded my tale. Does anyone have any questions?" Lavenza looked over to Ohya, "Ohya, you have been rather curious. Do you have any more questions?"
"Trust me, I have a bunch," She laughed as she leaned back in her seat. "But most of them I think fall under the 'best not to question' type. Only two really stick out to me." She leaned forward in her seat and raised a finger. Akira could tell with both her glances at him and the wide smile on her face exactly what she was going to ask. "Why do you call Akira 'My Trickster'?"
Everyone looked over at Lavenza as a dust of pink colored her cheeks, "I believe it is not uncommon for such matters to remain private." Her words did make Akira chuckle internally, even as everyone looked to him skeptically. The memory was still fresh in his mind, just before going off to face the final battle, speaking to Lavenza for what might have been the final time. When she told him of his feelings for him. Of course both knew that nothing would become of something like this, but neither cared. "What is your other question?"
"Why are you talking to Morgana?"
Silence quickly filled the room and instantly everyone, even the Thieves, looked to Akira for an answer. Lavenza's arrival was so sudden that that little bit went completely over his head. Combined with the fact that Lavenza had spoken directly to Morgana a few times didn't exactly leave a convenient way out of the question. As he tried to formulate an answer, Lavenza chuckled, "My apologies. It has slipped my mind that most of you are unable to hear Morgana's voice."
"Uhh… his voice," Shinya asked curiously.
Hifumi raised her eyebrow, "Are… are you implying that Morgana can actually speak?" She eyed the cat skeptically, "I don't mean to be rude Lavenza-san, but are you alright?"
"Maybe Akira put something in her coffee," Ohya half joked but still interested in the conversation.
"I can assure you that I'm quite alright," chuckled Lavenza. "However I can understand how such an idea could seem far fetched. Allow me to illuminate the situation." Without another word, Lavenza opened her large book and began to mumble while reaching out a hand into the air. At first, everyone looked on with confusion that grew as light seemed to gather in her hand.
"Lavenza, I don't know if that's a good idea," Akira said, only for his words to fall on deaf ears.
Morgana stood up on the booth's table, "Lady Lavenza I-"
Just as Morgana began to speak, a bright blast of light engulfed the room. To anyone on the outside of the cafe, it might have looked like a bomb went off as everyone shielded their eyes from the blinding light. It disappeared as quickly as it came and everyone blinked feverishly and began to rub their eyes.
"What the hell," Ryuji said as he rubbed his eyes.
Kawakami did the same and said, "So bright. It's like I looked at the sun."
Maruki took off his glasses to wipe his eyes, "That was quite a flash."
"Lady Lavenza," Morgana said, rubbing his eyes with his paws. "What was that light and what did… you…" As the cat looked at the Velvet girl, out of the corner of his eye he could see Sojiro staring at him with eyes as wide as dinner plates. His gaze along with Akira and the rest of the Thieves traveled around the room. They were all staring at the cat standing on the table. A few of them had their mouths open, unable to speak the many questions they all had. Despite the stares of everyone, Morgana asked, "Did… You all hear me?"
The deafening silence lingered like a stone in a lake until Ohya spoke for the sake of everyone, "Holy shit."
Morgana looked over to the velvet colored girl, "Lady Lavenza, what did you do?"
"I rewrote everyone's cognition. Now, everyone is able to converse with you. Isn't it wonderful."
"I...I got nothing for this," said the normal quick witted doctor. "That's just..."
Iwai nodded, eyes wide as well, "Yeah. I thought that day in Shibuya was weird but this… This takes the cake."
"I agree with Iwai-san," Yoshida shook his head in disbelief. "If you all weren't here to experience this alongside me, I would think this is just a symptom of my age."
"It's one thing to know that the cat could talk, but to hear it is another thing entirely," said the cafe owner.
"You knew about this Boss," Kawakami looked at the cafe owner in surprise.
Sae raised her hand, "I did as well. After I helped Akira in his escape from the police station, some of the details about their work as thieves were explained to us. Morgana being able to talk included." The prosecutor placed her hand on her chin, "Although, I'm rather surprised. I didn't expect the voice to be male."
"Hey," Morgana turned to Sae. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well Morgana is typically a female name," Hifumi added. "Are you a male?"
"Of course I'm a guy," the cat stomped his paw.
"Alright don't get you whiskers in a twist," Iwai added. "Hard to sound intimidating when you're a cat."
Morgana made his way from the center table up to the bar in order to face everyone properly. "I may be a cat, but my skills as a thief are top notch if I do say so myself. I just don't want you all to have the wrong impression of me since this is the first time we're officially meeting."
"I suppose we should introduce ourselves properly," Chihaya asked.
"No need Chihaya, I've been here the whole time. Plus, I was with Akira a lot of the time he helped you all so I'm well acquainted with all of you." Morgana smiled, "Thank you for all your help everyone."
"It… it was nothing, Morgana-san," Shinya smiled, but still unsure about talking to a cat.
Akira was honestly surprised. Aside from some initial hesitation, everyone seemed to take the fact Morgana could talk rather well. "Surprised," asked the smiling Lavenza before turning back to everyone. "I believe Akira is rather shocked at how well you all have grasped Morgana being able to speak."
"A little," He turned to his fellow thieves. "When me and Ryuji heard him talk for the first time, it was pretty jarring. I'm just kind of surprised that you all aren't more bothered by it."
Ann scratched her head, "yeah, I know it was hard for me to wrap my head around when I first heard it."
"It is quite a deviation from the norm," Yusuke nodded.
"Trust me Akira," Ohya smiled. "I think I speak for everyone when I say how this is the weirdest day in my life." Her words did receive a few nods and hums of agreement fromm the others. "But I knew what getting mixed up with a group of world saving heroes would get me."
"Ohya-san is correct Akira," Yoshida added. "While this is all quite a bit to grasp all at once, we've all seen things others wouldn't believe."
"Perhaps it was fate that led us all to this moment," Hifumi added.
Chihaya chuckled, "I believe Hifumi-san is right. Besides, Morgana's quite the cute cat isn't he."
Morgana let out a bashful pur before putting on a mock confident chuckle, "At least someone recognizes my devilish charm."
Futaba just groaned, "Kind of hard to see with you always talk yourself up all the time."
"For real," Ryuji rolled his eyes.
The cat furrowed his brow, "Oh please Ryuji. You wouldn't know charm if it hit you on the head, you thug."
"Who are you calling a thug," Ryuji stood from his chair and glared at the cat.
The rest of the Phantom Thieves just groaned as Morgana and Ryuji began to argue with each other. Everyone else seemed unsure at what to do. "Ummm," Shinya looked over to Yusuke. "Should we stop them?"
The artist shook his head, "No. This is quite normal for the two."
"They fight like this alot," Iwai cocked an eyebrow.
"I would be lying if I said it did not happen on a frequent basis," Haru shook her head as a sigh escaped her lips. "But don't worry, the two of them get along most of the time."
"Just let them get it out of their systems," Ann waved her hand dismissively. "Honestly, I think Morgana's just being a little antsy. We told him to be quiet while the party was going since… you know, talking cat."
"I see," Hifumi nodded her head, before turning to look at the pair. "I must admit, it's amazing that they can't hear us. They seem rather engrossed in their argument."
"Give it a sec," Akira smiled and looked over to his trusted advisor.
The wordless favor received a nod in return. Closing her eyes, Makoto sat motionless for a few seconds as everyone looked at her curiously. Morgana and Ryuji were still shouting at each other once they heard the familiar sound of Makoto clearing her throat. "You two," she said in a stern Makoto tone. "I thought I told you two too get along. This is supposed to be a celebration." She opened her eyes and stared at the pair. Her red orbs pierced the atmosphere of the cafe to send shivers up the spines of not only Ryuji and Morgana, but everyone in the cafe. "Sit down."
"Right sorry Queen," The two hastely sat down, Morgana back on the bar and Ryuji back in the booth.
Makoto smiled in mild amusement as everyone else stared at her. "Scary," Mishima whispered.
A small smile tugged at Iwai's lips, "kid's got talent."
Lavenza nodded her head, "Quite impressive."
Ohya leaned across the table to whisper to Sae. "Your sister's got those boys whipped," she said with a snicker and cheeky grin.
Takemi chuckled, "As light hearted as this topic is, I have to get us back to the elephant in the room." She turned to look at Morgana who sat on the bar. "Who or what are you Morgana? Clearly you look like a cat, but I think we all can guess that there's more to it than that."
The doctor's word did receive a few nods, signalling that the other agreed. Hesitantly, Morgana turned to Akira. "Don't look at me," he said with his ever present cocky smile. "It's up to you if you want to."
Morgana looked down, unsure of himself, "But…"
"Dude, just go with it," Ryuji rolled his eyes. "Kind of hard to write this off just Phantom Thief as weirdness. And if you're worried about them thinking you're weird," he pointed with his thumb at Akira, "They know this guy. Can't get weirder than that."
Akira leaned on the bar, "hey."
"Honestly can't argue with that," Kawakami held her stomach as she laughed a bit.
Sumire chuckled as well, "Senpai is kind of weird in his own way."
Chihaya nodded her head, "yeah."
"Ain't nobody weirder than this kid," Ohya bellowed.
Akira shook his head as everyone laughed at his expense. His gaze went to Ryuji who was smiling widely, despite the argument they just had, Ryuji's trying to make Morgana feel better in his own way. Glancing over to the cat, "Ryuji's got a point. Might as well just roll with it."
Morgana sat on the bar in silence, quietly contemplating the words of his friends. "Alright, I guess I can explain, but it's kind of complicated."
Sojiro snickered under his breath as he stirred the pot of curry, "Heard that a few times today."
His words earned nods from the other's. "That's just how it is." Morgana brought his paw to his mouth to clear his throat, "I guess I should start by saying that I'm not just some cat. I'm actually similar to Lady Lavenza."
Chihaya tilted her head, "Similar how?"
"We share the same Master," answered the velvet girl.
"You mentioned this 'master' earlier," Yoshida added before turning to Akira. "He was the one who wrote that letter to you, correct? Could you elaborate more on who this person is?"
Akira scratched the back of his head, "Not really. It falls under the category of 'would take way too much time to explain'."
"Akira's right," Morgana perked up. "It's not really important right now, what is important is that my Master created me."
Kawakami took notice of his particular word choice, "Created?"
"Remember what Lady Lavenza said about the Malevolent Will and how it split her in two while also sealing away our Master. Well, just before he was sealed, my Master gathered the last traces of mankind's hope and created me."
"So…," Hifumi raised her eyebrow quizzically, slightly unsure how to fraze her next words. "You're… the hope of humanity."
The feline nodded, "Basically."
A palatable silence slipped into the atmosphere and looks were shared with one another. It was the words of Ohya that broke the silence yet again. "That's so cheesy."
"Hey!?" Morgnana growled and stared down the reporter, "What the heck is that supposed to mean?!"
Shinya shrugged, "She's got a point. It sounds like something out of a video game."
Akira chuckled as he leaned over the bar. "Trust me Shinya. If I told you half the stuff we did as thieves, you'd definitely think we were in some sort of video game."
"Can I please get back to my story," Morgana stomped his paw. Akira waved his hand to signal him to continue. "Anyway, back to what I was saying. My Master created me so that I could find Humanity's last hope, a Trickster who could accomplish change and assist him in becoming a great Thief." He looked over his shoulder at the black haired teen, "That was Akira."
"And you achieved your goal wonderfully," Lavanza congratulated. "Despite the hurdles you faced along your journey, you were able to fulfill your role."
"Hold on. What do you mean by hurdles," Sae crossed her arms with her eyebrow raised.
Morganna looked down at the floor, "When I was created, that stupid God got in the way and took away my memories so that I couldn't fufill my role."
"But you found Akira in the end." Sumire tilted her head, "If your memories were gone, how did you find Akira."
"That part was completely by chance," Akira chuckled. "Me and Ryuji found Morgana completely by accident. Honestly, it hurts my head to think about how much chance was involved with everything that's happened."
"And you were instructed to teach Akira to be a thief. How could you do that with your memory gone," Iwai questioned.
"Amnesia doesn't completely erase all of your memories," Takemi added. "You could lose portions of your memory, but skills you have learned remain, like being able to drive or other motor functions." The doctor took a sip of her coffee, "I assume you knew how everything worked, but not why."
Morgana looked surprised and nodded his head, "That's actually right. I knew about how to change a person's heart, but I didn't know why."
Chihaya frowned, "It must have been hard. To have all that knowledge and not know why. To not know where you came from."
"Yeah." Morgana looked down to the floor as a solemn expression grew on his face. "I had no idea what I was, much less who I was. Obviously I was special in some way, but for the longest time I thought I was a human who was turned into a cat. But that idea didn't last long. I had nightmares a few times about how I was just some monster. That everyone being with me could get them hurt, or worse." He curled his paws in frustration, "but it was also the fact that everyone was just better that I was. Futaba was better at reconnaissance. Makoto was better at giving advice in the field. I… I thought I was useless, and everyone wouldn't need me anymore and I would be alone."
Haru and the other's looked at their feline friend, remembering the talk they had after they left Okumura's palace. "Mona-chan."
The cat looked at Maruki, "In Dr. Maruki's fake reality, he was able to turn me into a human. Deep down, I just wanted to belong with everyone else. After we fought Yaldabaoth I thought I finally had a place I could belong, and part of me believed that, but another part of me wanted to be like everyone else. To be the same, on equal footing. This way… I could stay with everyone."
Everyone was silent as they heard the cat speak his feelings. "I am sorry to hear such a turn of events," Lavenza shook her head. "If the Malevolent Will have had not intervened, you would not have had to suffer so much."
"It's alright Lady Lavenza, sure I may not be human like everyone else. But I'm still me." Morgana did a little spin, striking a pose. "I don't have to compare myself to everyone else and I should just be myself." Looking away to hide his bashful expression, "Everyone reminded me that no matter what we do or no matter where we go, we'll always be the Phantom Thieves. That I'll always have a place to belong."
Akira placed his hand on top of Morgana's head and ruffled the cat's fur, "Of course. You'll always be our friend."
Ann smiled as she nodded her head, "Yeah, your one of us no matter what. Cat or not."
Morgana looked to his crush, tears of joy in his eyes, "Lady Ann."
"Ann-chan is right. You'll always have a place with us," Haru nodded her head. "I believe the rest of us agree as well."
Nods from Yusuke, Makoto, Sumire and even Ryuji were enough to make Morgana smile. "Aww, you guys."
Ohya laughed loudly, "Aye, just looking in from an outsider's perspective. Ain't no better place for a talking cat to be than with a group as weird as this."
"Can't argue with that," Kawakami joked.
A small smile tugged at Iwai's lips and pointed to Akira with his thumb, "you guys got enough weirdness with the kid as your leader. Always looking for trouble."
"Love you too Iwai." Akira's words earned some laughter from everyone.
"They got you there Joker," Morgana pushed Akira's hand from atop his head. "Don't worry, I'll be there to watch your back. Even when you head back home."
Mishima picked up on the cat's words, "Are you going with Akira when he leaves Morgana?"
"Sure am. Someone's got to keep an eye on him so he stays out of trouble."
Akira rolled his eyes and crossed his arms with a mock pout, "Why do you guys keep saying that? It's not like I ever went out looking for trouble, it always seemed to find me."
The teens pouting was enough to get laughs from everyone, including Iwai and Takemi. As they laughed at his expense, a small smile formed on his lips. Because I got in trouble with Shido, I gained so much more than I lost. I got real friends, people who trusted in me and believed in me. He laughed a bit to himself, Might have to actually go looking for trouble if it gets me this.
"What are you smiling for Kid," Sojrio looked up from his pot.
"Nothing. Just thinking about how I need to explain bringing a cat home to my parents," Akira looked over to his guardian. "Might need your help with that one Boss."
"Sure thing," the cafe owner sat down his ladael he was using to stir the pot. "Well the curry is ready, everyone you invited is here right?"
"Yeah," Akira nodded and smiled at everyone. "Alright, the currys ready. We can officially get this party started."
"Aw yeah. I'm starving," Ryuji pumped his fist.
Ann smiled as well, "I'm totally ready for some of that curry."
"I've grown quite famished as well," Yusuke said, rubbing his stomach as it growled.
Makoto sniffed the air, "It smells amazing Boss."
Futaba threw her hands in the air, "Curry time."
"Your curry is always a delight Boss," Haru chuckled. "Paired with your coffee, it's quite a treat."
"The smell alone is making my mouth water," Mishima smiled.
Hifumi nodded her head, "If the smell is indeed anything to go by, I'm sure it will taste great."
"I've always wondered what your curry is like Boss," Kawakami chuckled. "I'm sure it will be really good."
"As a regular, I can assure you that it's quite good." A coy smiled edged on to Takemi's lips.
Chihaya happily clapped her hands together while giggling, "I'm so excited to try it."
Ohya laughed, "If it's really good, I might just forgive you for the bottle you owe me."
"Coffee and curry are quite a strange combination, but what would it do me to waste such an experience," Yoshida chuckled heartily.
"Sure smells good," Iwai commented.
"I'm not much for spicy food," Shinya admitted. "But I'm willing to try it."
A small growl came from Sumire's stomach as she blushed, "After Practice, I'm quite hungry too."
"It's been quite awhile since I've been able to have your curry Boss," Sae smiled a little.
"I've never actually had it myself either," Maruki nodded. "I sure hope it lives up to my expectations."
"The taste was simply spectacular last time," Lavenza smiled. "I am looking forward to this."
And so the party began.
The curry was quickly passed out for everyone to enjoy. The collective hums and smiles were enough to tell anyone that the curry was a hit, much to Boss's pleasure. While everyone ate, Akira went around and refilled everyone's coffee before making himself a plate to enjoy.
The cafe was quickly a buzz with everyone chatting about various subjects. From his spot at the center behind the bar he could see Kawakami blushing sitting next to a smirking Takemi. His guess was that the teacher was regaling the tale about her time as a maid. An idea supported by the small blush on Maruki's face.
Across from the booth Iwai sat at the end of the bar talking to Sojrio. The two older men seemed to be discussing the exploits of their children. Iwai discussed how Kaoru would be attending Shujin this next year and Sojrio talked about Futaba's quirky nature. At least from what Akira could tell, the two really seemed to hit it off.
Next to the two father figures were Futaba and Shinya discussing the details of what Akira suspected to be a video game with Yusuke occasionally, usually about some artistic aspect. Shinya for the most seemed to be able to keep up with the girl's enthusiasm, a feat in of itself.
In the booth closest to the stairs, Sae seemed to be regaling the details of Shido's case to Ohya and Mishima with the occasional comment from Yoshida. The young teen eagerly took note about the case while the reporter teased him. Eventually the topic went around to Ohya and the story she had planned to write about Kayo, to which Sae offered her help from a legal standpoint.
At the bar, Hifumi and Sumire were discussing their respective activities. The pair showed a high level of dedication towards honing their craft: The long hours they spent practicing, the anxiety before a match, aiming to reach the highest points of shogi and gymnastics. The two seemed to get along quite well.
In the center of the cafe, The thieves discussed their own plans for the future. Ryuji informed them that he was all packed up and ready to move. Ann talked about how excited and nervous she was for her time abroad. Haru and Makoto shared similar feelings for moving into their own places for the start of college.
Lavenza and Morgana talked idly at the bar. The velvet girl spoke about how Igor was doing and the many tasks he was faced with now that he was free. Morgana asked her to pass along his support to his master in his future endeavors.
Akira for the most part jumped back and forth between conversations. Chatting a bit and adding to the conversation a little before moving to do the same for someone else. Being one of the last to arrive, he hadn't had the chance to say hello to everyone and now he did just that.
Soon the time flew by and the antics of the party didn't stop even as the sky changed color. Some of the others had gotten up from their seats in order to talk with others at the party. Sumire and Maruki spoke about things that were going on in each other's lives. Takemi made several attempts to tease Iwai but failed to break the man's stoic expression, much to Kawakami's mild amusement. Mishima and Ryuji talked about how quiet Shujin would become with everyone gone. Makoto and Sae talked about Makoto's new place. Haru and Sojrio talked about coffee and the girls potential apprenticeship. Ohya and Chihaya shared stories about their youth and work. Yusuke and Hifumi discussed business at Kosei. There was no end to the topics discussed as the sky turned to night.
After what seemed like hours and many plates of curry eaten, everyone returned to their original spots while Akira stood idly in the corner by the TV. Away from anyone's conversation but instead looking at all the friends he made along his journey. "What are you looking at kid?" Akira looked over to see Sojrio walking over to him.
"Nothing, just reminiscing," he answered with a smile.
The cafe owner chuckled as he leaned behind the bar, "You're way too young to be doing that. You still have another week before you go."
Akira shrugged, "I know. It's just kind of sereal how much has happened since I came here, and it was only for a year."
"A lot sure can happen. If you told me the kid I took in a year ago would be hosting a party at my cafe," Sojrio shook his head. "I wouldn't have believed a word."
"Me neither."
"Hey Sojiro," the two broke away from their conversation to see Futaba pouting. "What are you too talking about over there?"
"Nothing Futaba," smiled Sojiro. "Just talking about how the kid's going to be sad when he leaves."
Akira rolled his eyes, "Something like that I guess."
Everyone else now seemed engaged in their conversation. "Do you really have to go Akira," Futaba asked, her tone saddened by the reminder of Akira leaving.
"I'm sure we could convince Boss to keep you for another year," Takemi said in an attempt to put Sojiro on the spot.
"You could always stay with me," Ohya offered. "I could use a young man like you to take care of me."
The reporter's words did cause Akira to laugh for a second. "Sorry Ohya," he said after regaining his composure. "But I've got to go home, my parents are going to have about a thousand questions for men when I get home."
"Do they know about you being a Phantom Thief," questioned Mishima.
He shook his head, "No, they don't. But they will be curious considering my attitude change, so I'll probably tell them."
Hifumi cocked her brow, "Attitude change?"
The young teen scratched his head, showing some rather uncharacteristic bashfulness. With a sigh, Akira moved from the corner by the TV to the center of the cafe next to Lavenza. "After the trial happened, the people in my hometown started to treat me differently. People who I call my friends wouldn't even look me in the eye, insulting me and my parents for raising me."
Everyone looked to the usually cocky teen in genuine surprise. It was rare for Akira to talk with so much heart, even the snarky Takemi elected to keep silent.
"Add to that me coming to Shujin, only to find out it was no different since Kamoshida leaked my record. Getting looked down on and called trash behind my back." Akira shook his head, "I'd like to think that I handled it well, but it adds up." He looked over to his friends, "Ann, Ryuji, Mishima. You three probably remember how I looked on my first day right. You as well Kawakami."
The three were silent and contemplated as they remembered the events from a year ago. "Yeah," Ann said slowly. "You… looked so numb to it." The model's words earned nods of agreement from Ryuji, Mishima and Kawakami.
"It's because I was. All the talk, the rumors, and the insults. It numbed me to the point where I didn't care. The only thing that mattered to me was getting done with my probation."
Akira words were met with silence except for Morgana who walked over to his friend, "Joker…"
A chuckle came from Akira's lips as he ruffled the cats head, "Don't worry Morgana. Even after everything that happened, I wouldn't change a thing. I'd save that woman again no matter what. Because of that I came here, and awakened to my power. I met all of you too." The cat broke away from his grip and Akira continued, "Sure some bad things happened along the way, but I wouldn't change a thing regardless. Plus it all worked out in the end, I was freed from juvenile hall and cleared of my record. And that's thanks to all of you."
"Aw Akira," Chihaya looked about ready to cry.
"Hell yeah man," Ryuji clamped a hand over a fist as he grinned ear to ear. "No way we could let our leader go down like that."
"Sakamoto-kun is correct," Hifumi nodded. "We simply could not allow a hero such as yourself to lose, not after everything you have done for us."
"I'm grateful for the thanks and all, but just because you're cleared of your record, doesn't mean people are going to treat you like normal back in your hometown," Iwai looked over from the edge of the bar. "Stuff like that sticks."
Akira smiled widely, "And that suits me just fine. People may not see me the same way ever again back home but that doesn't matter. I've got real friends right here. Sure most of us met because of some deal we formed, but you all are important to me." The teen looked down to his hand and began to open and close it, "While we were fighting Yaldabaoth, right near the end when things seemed hopeless. I could hear the cheers of everyone in Shibuya. But I could hear all of you, like you were right next to me."
"Now that sounds pretty cheesy," Takemi let out a small chuckle from behind her coffee cup.
"What can I say, I just wanted to finish what we started." Akira's words were paired with his cocky smirk. It was hard not to notice the blush grow on the doctor's pale skin. "Anyway, it's because of all of you that we were able to win. Thank you all, I mean it."
"Akira-senpai," Sumire smiled from ear to ear.
"You deserve some of the credit as well Akira," Haru chuckled a little. "All of us are here because of you, you brought us all together and helped each of us."
"Okumura-san is right," Yoshida nodded with the words of Haru. "After hearing the stories of everyone here, it is clear that your time here has enriched each of our lives. I am grateful as well."
"The help went both ways," assured Akira. "Still I wanted to find a way to thank you all for your help along my journey. So I had these made." Walking back over to the edge of the bar, everyone watched curiously as he retrieved the box he had earlier when him and Maruki made their entrance. Bringing it back to the center of the cafe, Akira popped open the latches and pulled out one of the contents. To everyone's surprise, it was a card.
Chiyaya's eyes widened when she looked at the card, "A Tarot Card!?" In Akira's hand he held a bright red card that appeared to be made of some sort of metal. Etched into the metal was the portrait of a jester with a sack over his shoulder accompanied by a dog scratching at his leg with the words 'Le Mat' written at the bottom.
"Yeah," Akira turned the card over to look at the front. "The Major Arcana tells a story called the Fool's Journey. It's supposed to represent someone's journey through life. I think it's kind of applicable for my time here in Tokyo. Each of you got a card that represents you and what you did for me."
Sojrio crossed his arms, "Are these what took you so long to get before the party?"
Akira nodded, "Yeah, had these custom made. I wanted to give you all something memorable before I left."
"Those look awesome Akira," Mishima smiled.
Ann agreed with a nod, "I don't know much about this stuff but those do look really cool."
"They did come out pretty good," Akira nodded his head before looking at the card once again. "The first card is the Fool. It's represented by the number zero because it has no limits and it's supposed to represent endless possibilities and new beginnings." A smile tugged at his lips, "For me, my journey here really began with someone else's help." He turned to Lavenza and handed the card to her. "Please give this card to Igor and tell him I said thanks once again."
"My my, I don't believe my Master has ever received a gift from a guest before, " The velvet girl chuckled, "I'm sure he'll be delighted to receive this."
He smiled at the girl before returning to the box, "This next one is special because it isn't a card like the other's. It's the Magician and it means action and initiative, the first steps on someone's journey so it has the number one. The magician is supposed to be a guide for the Fool. Morgana, this one's for you. You guided us through all this. We wouldn't be here without you." Instead of a card, Akira pulled out a collar with a red metal tag hanging from it. On one side was Morgana's name and the other had the roman numeral for one with 2 small flames next to it.
"For me?" Akira reached over and placed the collar around the cat's neck, adjusting it so it wasn't too tight. Morgana looked down at the hanging piece of metal. Smiling, he twirled in place, "Looking cool Joker. Thank you."
"Next is the Priestess, number three. It represents a few things, the main one's being hidden knowledge and intuition. I can't think of anyone more deserving this card than you Makoto. That sharp mind of yours is really something."
She reached out her hand to receive the card. Inspecting it, she wiped a forming tear away from her eye. "Thank you Akira. I'll treasure this forever."
"Number three is The Empress and it is said to represent prosperity and protection. All the tendencies of a mother." He chuckled a little, "Honestly I think of you Haru when it comes to traits like that. So this card is for you."
"Thank you," the fluffy heiress smiled at her friend. "It's because of you that I was able to realize so much about myself."
"Following the Empress is the Emperor, number four. Structure, control, focus and discipline are all things represented by the Emperor. Personally, I think they're also traits of an artist like you Yusuke."
"I agree as well," he said, accepting the card. "It is only because of you that such traits appeared in the first place. I owe you quite a lot Akira, thank you."
"After that is number five, The Hierophant. Authority and tradition are traits that represent the card. It's supposed to represent a connection to the past." Akira turned to the cafe owner, "This is for you Boss."
Sojrio accepted the card with a small smile. "Thanks kid."
"Six is The Lovers. It means things like union and partnership, as well as compassion. It's for you Ann, since you are one of the most compassionate people I have ever met."
Ann smiled ear to ear and accepted the card. Wiping away a tear, she said, "Thank you. It means alot to me to hear you say that. You're way kinder than me. All the things you've done for me. Thank you."
"After The Lovers is The Chariot, represented by the number seven. While it is a symbol of war, it also means things like victory, self-control, self-assertion and willpower. This one is all for you Ryuji, willpower incarnate."
Ryuji rubbed his nose as he took the card, "Aw man. You're going to make me blush man. And why are you telling everyone I've got self-control. I learned it from you."
Akira returned a smile to his best friend before turning back to the card case. He hesitated momentarily as he realized what card was next on the list. "This next card is number eight, Justice… I can't give it to anyone." He gazed at the card as everyone eyed him curiously. "The person who represents this card couldn't be here."
It wasn't hard to read the expression of the usually cocky teen. Sojiro asked, tone genuinely full of concern, "I thought you said everyone was here."
Akira gave no response to the cafe owner's question. "Who does the 'Justice' card belong to Akira," Chihaya continued.
"Akechi."
The name of the famous detective prince caused various reactions among everyone. Mostly everyone seemed surprised, undoubtedly because the detective had a reputation for being against the Phantom Thieves. This explained the tense reaction of Mishima. However, the reactions of the Phantom Thieves and Maruki were different. They all looked down at the floor, faces laced with sadness and melancholy.
"Akira..." Haru spoke to her friend with a concerned tone, displaying those motherly tendencies that she embodied.
"I'm fine," Akira responded. "No need to worry."
Ohya lifted a brow, " I didn't know you and Akechi were close. How'd that happen?"
Akira internally chuckled at the reporter's natural curiosity but didn't let it show on his face. "It's complicated. I'm sorry. It wouldn't be right for me to tell you guys that. It's not my story to tell." Setting aside the feelings he felt, Letting everyone know about Akechi's past was not something he wished to do right away. Considering all the horrible things he had done while under Shido.
Serious was an emotion that very rarely came up with Akira. His love for sarcasm and quick-witted remarks wouldn't allow for it. But now, everyone could easily tell that Akira was being serious. Which was cause for concern.
Sumire placed a hand on her Senpia's shoulder, who returned a smile. "It's alright Sumire. The two of us made our choices and I don't regret it. Not even for a second." The other thieves smiled at him while everyone else did not push the topic. He glanced one more time at the Justice card, Justice represents cause and effect, also truth. You found your Truth in the end.
He placed it back into the box and pulled out the next card. "Number nine is The Hermit. Contemplation, inner guidance, and the search for truth inside one's self. Futaba, this card belongs to you."
The orange hacker chuckled mischievously, "recognizing my greatness huh." She adjusted her glasses and smiled at her friend, "but seriously Akira, thank you. If you'd never come, I'd still be locked up in my room. I'd be a real hermit."
A bit of laughter was had by the Thieves and Sojrio as Akira pulled out the next card. "Fortune is the next card and you can guess what this card represents. Change, luck, and opportunity, also the number ten. Sorry this one is on the nose Chihaya."
The fortune teller chuckled, "It's alright Akira. I would say that I have been very lucky to meet you."
"After Fortune is Strength. Represented by the number eleven, this card means the same as its name. Strength in both body and spirit, Focus and resolve. Lavenza, I believe you are deserving of this card."
"I did not expect to receive a gift myself." Lavenza chuckled, "I owe you, My Trickster, for the strength I possess now. It was your actions and beliefs that broke the chains that bound me. I thank you once again."
"Number twelve, Hanged Man. It may sound like a bad card but the Hanged Man means reflection and acceptance of the past." Akira smiled as he looked over to the former Yakuza. "Here you go Iwai."
The man grunted as a small smile edged at his lips. Reaching out for the card, he said, "Sounds about right."
"Like the Hanged Man, The thirteenth card, Death may sound morbid but it really isn't. It just means the end of one thing and the beginning of something new. You know 'out with the old and in with the new'. Takemi is for you. Sorry it's on the nose."
"It's fine," the punk doctor smiled. "Kind of fitting honestly all things considered. You did help me get over my old habits."
Akira smiled as well and reached for the next card. "Temperance, number fourteen. It's supposed to represent balance. Finding the middle ground in life. Honestly… can't imagine someone other than you Sensei having this card."
Kawakami rubbed her hair, a small blush on her face, "How can you just throw out compliments like that with a straight face? Seriously, thought. Thank you."
"The Devil is the number fifteen. Again, this card seems like a bad card but it has some good meaning behind it as well. It can be a symbol for temptation, but it can mean having a healthy bond or respecting commitment." He looked over to the reporter, "Ohya."
"Aw yeah," she smiled ear to ear as she received the card. "I can live with this. Thanks a million Akira."
"The sixteenth card is The Tower. It's usually seen as the worst card in the deck since it is usually seen as an omen. But it can also mean the destruction of prideful ideals, so new ones can be laid down. Kind of reminds me of you Shinya."
Shinya nodded his head, "Yeah, considering how I used to be before I met you, it makes sense. But you helped me out a lot Akira. Thank you."
"The Star, number seventeen, is next and is a symbol of hope, generosity, and rejuvenation. To me all of these qualities remind me of you Hifumi, so this one is for you?"
"Indeed," she chuckled. "However, I would be remiss if I did not say that you are largely responsible for these Qualities. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
"After that comes number eighteen, The Moon. Fear of the unknown, dreams, inspiration, and a little ambition are the things the Moon represents." Akira looked over to Mishima.
"Me," he asked pointing to himself. Mishima reached out and took the card from his friend and wiped away a forming tear. "Thank you Akira. I'll do my best going forward."
"Number nineteen, The Sun. It's a symbol of happier days. A symbol of Joy, energy, optimism and accomplishment. A bright light in the sky for everyone to follow. All the things for a leader, right Yoshida?"
The politician let out a hearty chuckle, "Quite right. And I will do my best to ensure that such qualities are passed onto future generations."
"These next two are strange in the sense that they don't appear in the standard Tarot deck. That being said they still hold some significant meaning." Akira reached into the box, "Faith. This one is rather simple. It means belief in oneself and in others. Sumire, this one's for you."
The redhead chuckled as she smiled, "Aw Senpai, you taught me to have faith in myself. I should be thanking you. For everything."
"The next card is kind of obvious who it goes to but that doesn't change that it has an important meaning. The Councillor serves as a guide for the future, similar to the magician so it shares the number one. Maruki this one is for you. Sorry it's not a collar like Morgana's."
Maruki laughed, "it's quite alright Akira. Thank you for giving me this gift. It means a lot to hear that I guided you in the right direction."
"Finally, there is Judgement, number twenty. It's supposed to mean things like reflection and absolution. Realizing one's calling. Sae."
Sae chuckled at Akira's word choice, "absolution huh. That fits rather well. But I wouldn't have found my calling if not for you. Thank you Akira."
"No, thank you," Akira closed the lid of the box. "I know I can be pretty sarcastic sometimes," Ohya and Takemi chuckled at those words but he continued. "But I'm serious when I say that it's because of all of you that I made it this far. And this is proof." Akira reached out his hand as everyone watched him. Upon opening his hand, A card, not unlike the ones he had given to everyone, appeared out of thin air and spun in the palm of his hand.
Everyone looked at the glowing card in awe. "Wow," Mishima uttered.
"That's amazing," Maruki nodded his head.
Yoshida shook his head in disbelief, "If it wasn't for everything else I've seen today, I would think my age would be getting to me."
"There's a lot of that today," Takemi added, not immune from the awe of seeing the card.
"Lavenza," Akira looked over to the velvet girl. "Can you explain this one, I really liked the way you said it."
She smiled, "certainly. This is the last Arcana, The World. It is the willpower to stand up in this world on your own feet, unswayed by no one. This card is the basis of hope towards a future with your friends who share the same belief. Now that you've gained that power, you are no longer an existence that wanders alone. Your bonds shall never be broken no matter what. That is the power of The World."
Akira gazed at the blue glow of the card, "I only achieved this power thanks to you all. I've found a place to belong. No matter where I go or how much time will pass or what others say about me, I will always have a place to belong. A home." Closing his hand so the card could disappear, he did something that nobody had ever seen him do.
Akira bowed his head to everyone, to those who gave his life meaning where it had been stripped away. "Thank you."
The sincerity of his action and his tone was enough to change the atmosphere of the room. It was Futaba who broke the silence. Leaping out of her chair, she wrapped her arms around Akira with tears threatening to pour out of her eyes. "I… I'm going to miss you Akira."
Ryuji was quick to follow Futaba's lead and wrapped his arm around Akira's shoulder "Yeah man. It's not going to be the same without you."
"Akira," Ann was next, joining in on the hug with wet eyes. "I'll miss you too."
"No matter the distance, the bond we share shall persist," Yusuke hopped off his stool as well.
"That's right. We'll always have each other," Makoto got up as well.
Haru also looked to be barely holding back the tears, "you're one of the best friends I've ever had, Akira. I'm going to miss you."
Sumire was not far behind, "Senpai…."
The Thieves broke away from the large group hug and the other also made their way to Akira. Hifumi hugged him with tears forming in her eyes as well, "Our time together will be the most treasured memory I have. I will miss you as well."
Mishima did the same, trying very little to hide the tears in his eye, "Thank you for everything Akira. I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for you."
Shinya followed after the blue haired teen, "I'm going to miss you Akira. But the next time you see me, I'll be stronger than I was before."
"I ain't saying bye to you just yet," Sojrio cocked a smile. "But try to visit when you can."
"You better make sure to come and visit," Ohya said as she threw her arm around Akira. "And make sure to swing by Crossroads too, Lala-chan will miss you too."
After breaking free of Ohya, Chihaya made her way to him for a hug with tears in her eyes, "I really shouldn't be crying. I know that this isn't goodbye. But I'll still miss you."
Takemi rose to her feet for a hug as well, a smile on her usually coy face, "Take care of yourself Akira. A house call can be pretty expensive."
Akira chuckled at that and as Kawakami approached him for a hug, "I know I say it alot. But just try to stay out of trouble."
Iwai rather than give the teen a hug chose to punch him in the shoulder, "Make sure to let us know you're alive alright. Kaoru's going to want to know that his bro's doing ok."
Yoshida stood up as well, shaking Akira's hand and giving him a hug. "Although our paths may divide here, it may only be for a moment. Take good care of yourself back home Akira."
Sae also rose from her seat with a wide smile on her face, "Take care of yourself Akira. And don't be afraid to call if anything happens."
"Niijima-san is right," Maruki stood up as well. "If you ever find yourself in trouble, we'll all come running."
"We've got your back Joker," Morgana smiled.
As Akira looked over everyone, memories of the time he spent with each of them came to mind. Running and helping bring back the track team with Ryuji. Watching Ann pose for the camera at her photo shoots. Staring at the painting he had helped create with Yusuke. Helping Makoto with her future plans. Completing the promise list with Futaba. Trying different cups of coffee with Haru. Learning gymnastics with Sumire. Helping Mishima with his self-confidence. The hours he and Hifumi spent playing Shogi. Learning how to make coffee and curry from Sojiro. The taste of the various medicines he tried for Takemi. Instructing Kawakami at his workbench on how to make infiltration tools. Talking with Ohya and Lala-chan at Crossroads. Moving boxes from shelf to shelf while working for Iwai. Sitting at the small table Chihaya used for her fortune telling. Playing Gun About with Shinya. Standing and listening to Yoshida's passionate speeches. Fusing all kinds of Personas with the twins and Lavenza. His time at the Jazz bar with Akechi. Having Maruki bounce his ideas off of him. Sae driving him back home after faking his death. With all these wonderful memories in the back of his mind, he couldn't help but smile. "I know."
And so the party continued on for a little while longer. A few more plates of curry were eaten while everyone engaged in idle small talk, exchanging numbers as they did so. As the night finally came to a close, several people had made their exit.
Shinya was first, expressing that his mother would worry if it got too late. Iwai followed behind the kid in order to get home to Kaoru and the two left together.
Yoshida took his leave as well, saying something about not wanting to stay up too late at his age.
Kawakami was next since the following day was a school day, which served as a reminder for Mishima to leave as well.
Chihaya made her way home as well in order to fall asleep at a reasonable time.
Yusuke and Hifumi left together since they both would be heading back to Kosei together while Haru joined them to the station.
Sae and Makoto bid farewell to everyone as they made their exit.
Maruki and Sumire were engaged in conversation as they left together.
Since she lived really close by, Takemi stayed a bit longer before making her exit.
Reluctantly, Ohya made her way home as well to grab some sleep before work the next day.
Since the two lived close to each other, Ryuji and Ann said goodbye to Akira before they headed home.
"Alright," Futaba hopped off the stool she was sitting on and stretched her arms high into the air. "I'm going to head home to get some sleep. All this partying has tired me out."
Sojiro opened his mouth but the hacker was already out the door. "Don't worry Boss," Morgana spoke up. "I'll make sure she gets home safe."
The cafe owner smiled at the cat, "Thanks Morgana." Sojiro turned back around to the sink he was washing the dishes at, "Not going to get used to that."
Akira chuckled as he helped clean the various utensils. Lavenza stood up as well, "I believe I should make my exit as well. My Trickster, may I have a word before I leave."
"Sure," He stepped away from the glasses he was cleaning and made his way over to the door with Lavenza. "What is it?"
"Nothing. I just wished to thank you once again for everything you have achieved." She smiled at him, "despite the odds being stacked against you from the start, you flourished and didn't abandon your resolve. It is quite remarkable."
"I didn't do it alone Lavenza. Everyone helped me. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have made it this far."
She chuckled as she adjusted her hold on her book. "Indeed. Such a challenge would have most certainly been impossible alone." Lavenza remained quiet for a few more seconds, "it is rather peculiar however."
Akira raised his eyebrow, "What is?"
"After the events of tonight, I am most certain." She looked up to him, "I swore that I sensed part of The World residing within each of your friends. Perhaps… the events of tonight have caused bonds holding you all together to strengthen beyond what they were before. Crossing and weaving together." Lavenza now looked to Akira with a quizzical look in her eye, "for your friends to form bonds with each other, was that part of the reason for this event?"
Akira was silent for several seconds, before that signature cocky grin appeared on his face. With a shrug, he said, "Who knows."
The reaction of her Trickster caused her to laugh, "I see. Perhaps it is just a coincidence. Regardless, I must take my leave now. I will be sure to pass along your thanks and gift to my Master. Now if you'll excuse me." With those final words, Lavenza opened the door to the cafe and disappeared into the night.
Akira watched her walk until she was gone. "Hey," Morgana called from the ground. "Was that Lady Lavenza?"
"Yeah," answered the teen. "She just left."
"Man, I didn't get to say Goodbye," Morgana let out a tired yawn and stretched his back. "Well, it can't be helped. I'm going to bed Joker. Try not to stay up too late."
Akira nodded his head as his feline companion walked up the stairs. Making his way behind the counter, he returned to helping with the dishes. "So," Sojiro said after a few minutes of silent cleaning. "Are you ready to leave next week?"
"Yeah," he nodded, not taking his eyes off the glass he was washing. "Can't say I won't be sad to leave, but it's not like I'll be gone forever. I'll be right back for University."
"Well you can move into the attic when you come back, but it ain't going to be free next time alright."
"Is my work here not enough," Akira asked with a half hurt smile.
"Honestly you could be doing better."
The two shared a genuine laugh before the silence returned once again. "Are you really going to tell your parents about being a Phantom Thief."
"Yeah. I feel like they deserve to know, especially considering all the danger I went through. They at least deserve something. Is that weird?"
Sojiro shook his head, "No. I think your parents deserve to know. I think they'll be less hard on you for putting yourself in danger if you mention everyone you helped save."
Akira couldn't argue with the cafe owner's logic. It had been his parents that taught him to be the kind of person he was. Because of what they taught him, Akira gained friends whose bonds ran deeper than blood. "Not going to stop me from getting grounded," he chuckled.
The cafe owner chuckled and the two finished up the last of the dishes and Sojiro left for home. Exhausted from the festivities, Akira quickly followed the example and headed up stairs to change into his sleepwear. As he did, he saw Morgana already asleep on the window seal next to his bed. He walked over to it having fully changed and flopped onto the bed.
As he laid down and closed his eyes, the smiles of all his friends filled his mind. "I really am a lucky guy." With that final thought, sleep over took him and he dreamed of those precious to him.
