(This chapter takes place in Gravity Falls with the Pine's twins, also in this version Stan still runs the shack when he's in Gravity Falls)

The bus ride was long, bumpy, and uncomfortable. Mabel and Dipper were on their way back to Gravity Falls. It was finally summer, they had waited so long to come back! Mabel could barely sit through the last days of school. Dipper was looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Right now they were about 30 minutes away from the shack. The twins sat in the very back row, Dipper looked out the left window, Mabel out the right, and Waddles sat in between them. He hadn't grown too much since last summer. When they got home last year their parents were shocked when Waddles came strutting through the door. At first they were angry, but they soon grew attached to the pig.

"DIPPER! DIPPER! LOOK!" Mabel squealed, stood up and jumped up and down. Dipper craned his neck to look and he saw them pass a big sign that read; "Gravity Falls"

Dipper's heart beat against his chest and he started to think of the little attic room and the shack. The bus drove through downtown and Mabel plastered herself to the window,

"Oh my gosh! Dipper look!" before Dipper could react, Mabel started pounding on the window and screaming "GIRLSSS! CANDY, GRENDA!"

The two girls standing on the sidewalk began to wave frantically and chase the bus, but they couldn't keep up.

Dipper looked at the front of the bus and could see the bus drivers' annoyed face in the mirror. After a few more twists and turns in the road the bus pulled up in front of the Mystery Shack. Mabel grabbed Waddles leash and her bags and started running down the aisle. Dipper scrambled after her, and nearly tripped off the bus. The front door to the Mystery Shack swung open and two figures walked out.

"Kids!" Stan shouted in his gravelly voice and scooped them up in a hug so tight Dipper swore he could hear his bones cracking. Ford walked forward and ruffled their hair up.

"Why don't you come on inside, we made some improvements to the attic!" Ford said with a big smile on his face. The brothers lead Dipper and Mabel inside through the gift shop, Wendy looked up from her phone and a smile spread across her face.

"Hey guys! You're back, huh?" She stood up and leaned over the counter giving them fist bumps. "Soos is out for the day, so prepare yourself for tomorrow" Wendy said with a light laugh.

The twins followed their Grunkles up the stairs to the attic. When they swung the door open Mabel gasped. All of the clutter and random junk that was stored in there was moved out, which revealed a small loft in the corner of the room.

"This is really cool!" Dipper exclaimed running towards the ladder that lead to the loft. He climbed up, there was a bean bag chair that looked almost new. Mabel scrambled up after him. She peeked her head over the edge of the loft.

"Where did you guys find this bean bag chair!?" Mabel said in a loud excited voice.

"We bought it."Stan said with a smug look on his face.

"You mean I bought it. "Ford huffed but turned towards the kids "You get settled in here and come down for dinner later." The two men walked out of the room. The attic felt so welcome and familiar, unlike last summer.

"Hey Mabel, I think your mold spots are gone." Dipper pointed to the beams, but Mabel didn't seem to care. She was busy unpacking. She opened her pink, sparkely suitcase and pulled out a large dog bed with the name "Waddles" embroidered on with glittery thread.

"Here ya go Waddles!" She patted the bed an her pink pig galloped over and plopped down on his bed. Dipper got down from the loft and went over to his bed. He hadn't noticed before, but there was a new looking leather book sitting neatly on the mattress. He opened it up and it was full of blank pages.

"Did they fix up the journals or something?" Mabel leaned over to see.

"No, it's empty…" He trailed off when he saw a post-it note that read; "Here's your own journal to conduct your own research in, study the life forms around here, make new discoveries! -Ford" A wide smile spread across Dippers face

"It's my own journal!" He set it aside and unpacked his few things.

"What else is there to discover?" Mabel asked while tapping up posters to her favorite bands.

"I dunno, but I think I'm gonna find something new."
