(In this chapter we follow Steven)
Steven had finished packing up his room and had said his good-byes, although Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl did not react the way he thought they would. He had given them all the little presents that they seemed to discard.
Something felt off about them, but he didn't want to be selfish, so he swallowed his feelings and prepared to leave. He was going over his packing list and checklist, making sure that he had everything he needed and that everything he needed to do was done. When he had said good-bye to Peridot, Lapis, and Bismuth, Peridot promised to take care of the plants in his greenhouse. This made Steven more comfortable with leaving behind his plants, because now he knew the best gardener in Beach City would care for them.
Steven walked out of his house, down to his car parked in the sand. He opened his trunk to put his bags inside and let out a yelp of surprise.
"Lion! Get out of the car!" Steven scolded lightly. Lion was curled up in a tight ball, trying to make himself as small as possible. He lifted his head and made a look that said "Can I please come with you!?". Steven crawled into the trunk and sat by Lion.
"I'm sorry buddy, but you have to stay here. I think I might get arrested for having a giant, pink lion in my car." He scratched Lion's chin "You gotta hop out, Lion" Steven felt himself choking up. He was going to miss his fluffball. Lion growled and leaped from the car, he then picked up one of Steven's bags in his mouth and began to run.
"Lion, come back here!" Lion bolted up the wooden stairs to the house and tore through the screen door. Steven ran after him "Lion! You're breaking the house!"
Steven huffed and walked through the torn door, and found Lion in the living room, sitting on his bag.
"Yo Steven, what all that noise…"Amethyst walked in and her voice trailed off when she saw the scene in the living. Steven looked at her with an annoyed expression.
"He took my stuff." Steven walked up to Lion and began to push against his side. Amethyst laughed and opened the fridge and pulled out a slice of lunch meat.
"Lion, you want a treat?" Amethyst pat her leg "What's that thing that cat people do? Pspsps" Lion got up to get the slice of turkey. Steven grabbed his bag and swung it over his shoulder.
"Thanks Amethyst" Steven started to walk out the door,
"Wait! Are you leaving now?" panic flashed across her face, quickly replaced by her cool, relaxed, expression.
"Uh, not yet, in about" Steven checked his phone for the time "20-25 minutes."
"I'll find Garnet and Pearl so they can say goodbye." Amethyst said cooly and left Steven standing alone in the doorway. He sighed and heard a light tap on what was left of the door. He turned around and Connie was peering through the shredded screen.
"Uhhh, what happened here?" She said with a light chuckle.
"Lion stole one of my bags and ran up here to sit on in."Steven laughed warmly, "I found him trying to hide away in my trunk." Lion padded over and nudged Connie's hand with his snout.
"Awe, he wants to go with you?" Connie scratched under Lion's chin and behind his ears. Steven and Connie walked down to the car. Steven put the bag away and stood in the warm sand. He took a deep breath of salty ocean air.
It was time to go.
