Chapter Three

By the time Alex was out of work, Piper had already texted her the address of restaurant that they were supposed to meet. Alex was feeling a range of varied emotions at this point, mostly happiness followed by flashes of anxiety and panic. By the time Alex decided on something to wear and finally reached the restaurant, she was already late but thankfully Piper also hadn't arrived. The restaurant was small and cozy and the interiors were tastefully done. Alex was escorted to her table and she took the few minutes to calm and compose herself but it all flew out of the window the moment the blonde entered the room. When Piper entered the room, something in the room shifted, almost everyone's eyes darted towards the blonde haired woman making her way towards Alex and as for Alex, and she couldn't help but openly stare at her. Piper wore a knee length peach colored dress that hugged her curves perfectly and a pair of high heels. Her short blonde hair was done in a messy fashion and she looked every bit beautiful.

Piper sits opposite to her and apologizes for being late, a fact the taller brunette woman had not even thought about.

Their hostess for the evening arrives and they order some food and wine and the conversation slowly begins.

"So Alex, what is it that you do? I am sorry I don't remember much from the other night." Piper smiles cheekily at Alex.

"I am an editor for a publishing house and sometimes I write columns for some magazines and newspapers, but mostly it's reading endless manuscripts and selecting the ones that stand out. Nothing fancy." Alex smiles at Piper as she watches the blonde woman genuinely intrigued with her job.

"So you are like the boss, who has a say in what books get published or not? Wow Alex, your job must be really interesting." Piper chimes in.

"I am hardly anyone's boss but yes I have always loved reading in general and this job was just so perfect."

"So what do you do for a living Piper?" Alex jokes at her and she nearly spills her glass of wine as she laughs out loud.

"Well, I do acting jobs, you know, nothing big at all. The hours suck but the pay is good." Piper plays along.

"Oh, so maybe that's why you look familiar. I should really watch more of your shows." Alex jokes and is thankful that things aren't awkward between them.

"Maybe we can watch one together someday?" the blonde suggests and Alex smiles at the opportunity to spend some more time with the blonde.

The conversation continues smoothly through the night and Piper subconsciously thinks about the last time she had this much fun with someone or she felt at ease with someone. Her life was filled with people who adored her, people at her beck and call but she didn't have that many people who knew the real her and with whom she could be herself and now after the events of Polly and Larry's affair, she was feeling a bit lonelier than before. That was until she met Alex on that drunken night at the bar, there was something about Alex that made her feel at ease and her company made her genuinely happy.

"So, what brings you to New York? Is it a new project? I am sorry if my question was a bit intrusive, you don't have to answer it Piper." Alex rushes out before Piper has any chance to speak.

"It's ok Alex. I am actually on a much needed break after a bad breakup where my ex cheated on me with my best friend."

Alex could feel Piper's voice sadden as she talked about it.

"For what it's worth, I never really liked Larry." Alex says nonchalantly.

"Do you know Larry?" Piper asks surprised.

"Actually I don't but well, I look at him and I don't like him." Alex says and Piper is wrecked with laughter when she hears this.

"Actually, all men are asses" Piper tells her.

"Absolutely and that is why I am not interested in them but some women can be asses too." Alex says calmly and Piper is surprised when she feels rather happy to hear Alex's admission.

The rest of the evening continues in the same fashion with Alex trying hard to not fan girl over the blonde woman but finding it hard to resist and asking some occasional questions here and there about Hollywood, some of her movies and as for Piper, the smile on her face never leaves its place.

As the evening comes to an end, Piper pulls Alex in for a hug and kisses her on the cheek and softly whispers "Good night, Alex" as she leaves the other woman cheekily grinning from ear to ear.

Alex decides to walk home, to try and calm her self after the beautiful night that she had just had. She admits that she did have a crush on Piper before, but it was just a fan girl kind of crush but the more and more she is beginning to know Piper, she is realizing that Piper is different, different from what she had expected, different from the girls she had dated in the past, heck different from anyone she had ever met and frankly, Alex was scared for what she was feeling for the blonde haired woman who seemed to be on her mind all day long.
