CHAPTER FIVE
It had been exactly two days since Alex had kissed Piper and now Alex had been ignoring Piper like the plague. She didn't know what came over her that night she had kissed PIPER FUCKING CHAPMAN and bolted even before the blonde could say anything and now she was embarrassed to say the least. She was worried if Piper thought her to be some sort of weirdo. Piper had called her two times after the kiss and had left three messages saying that they needed to talk but Alex just couldn't bring it in herself to face the blonde. And Alex had spent the greater part of her weekend thinking about the blonde, worried if the blonde would ever talk to her again and worried if things her actions had changed everything between them forever. And Alex had no idea what was in store for her.
As Alex entered the publishing house after her lunch meeting, she could feel numerous eyes on her and people were talking in hushed voices as she entered.
"Vause" Nicky called out to her as she moved towards her office.
"I didn't know you had it in you, Vause. Piper freaking Chapman?" Alex looked at her rather confused as to what she was talking about and was suddenly embarrassed as she remembered her impromptu kiss on Saturday, at the mention of the blonde.
"What are you talking about Nicky?"
"I am talking about the blonde haired actress who has been waiting for you in your office since fifteen minutes." Nicky pointed towards her office and Alex was shocked to see Piper sitting in her office, casually drinking a cup of coffee as she went through a book.
"Holy shit, what am I going to do now?" Alex said rather loudly.
"What the fuck did you do this time Vause? It's not everyday Hollywood's sweetheart waits for you in your office."
"It's complicated Nicky; I promise we will talk later." Alex told her as she walked briskly towards her office.
Alex stood at the entrance and took in a deep breath. She looked over to Piper and she was wearing tight black jeans with a t-shirt and a black jacket and she looked every bit engrossed in the book that she was reading.
Alex lightly cleared her throat as Piper looked up from her book and flashed her a smile.
"You are late." Piper told her seriously and Alex looked at her confused as she took a seat opposite the blonde.
"Your meeting should have ended a long time back." Piper told her as Alex just shrugged.
"You know it's rude to not call people back and not respond to their messages. It's even more rude to kiss someone and walk away and completely ignore that person Alex." Piper said rather angrily, hurt evident in her voice.
She didn't know how to respond, she was at a loss as to say anything.
"We need to talk."
"Yes, we do but not here Piper, too many people around. You wanna get coffee and talk about it?"
Alex cancelled her appointments for the afternoon and left with Piper. As the pair left, she could see Nicky giving her the thumbs up and Alex gave her a curt smile.
They went to a quaint and cozy café two blocks away from Alex's office. As they sat opposite to each other, Piper looked at Alex as if asking her to speak up.
" I am so sorry Piper. I didn't mean to ignore you; I was just embarrassed by what I had done." Alex started.
"Do you regret it?" Piper asked her after a long silence.
"God, no. I would never regret it." Alex took a deep breath and continued.
"I have always had a crush on you, after all you were this Hollywood star but when I met you that night at the bar, it was different and the more I met you, the more I realized that you were different than anybody that I had ever met, I had ever dated and that changed everything.
And I tried so hard to keep my feelings in check, I really did. I mean look at you, you are a Hollywood star and look at me Piper, I am just mildly attractive. You are way out of my league and also, you are straight. But that night, I don't know what happened to me, I felt like you wanted me to kiss you so I just let my emotions get the best of me. And here we are." Alex concluded as she looked over at Piper who seemed to be lost in deep thoughts.
Piper took a long sip of her coffee as she looked directly at Alex and started.
" The night at the bar, I was heartbroken and all I wanted to do was drown in my sorrows and drink but then I met you and we clicked, it was just so simple and comfortable. As we spent time with each other, I realized that I didn't have to be Piper Chapman; the actress, a celebrity. With you I could be my self and that was something I could never be with anyone I had dated in the past. And contrary to what you said, I think you are smart and talented Alex and a lot attractive, might I add." Piper continued
"I know I have not dated any girls in the past but I am open to having a relationship with one. And yes for the record I did want you to kiss me that night and I am glad that you did. What I didn't expect was that you would bolt without letting me speak anything at all and also that you would completely ignore me to the point that I would have to stalk you."
"How did you know where I worked?" Alex asked rather amused.
"I have my ways." The blonde winked at her.
"And for the record, I really like you too Alex. But since this is all too new for me, let's take one step at a time, ok?" Piper asked her and Alex could see the sincerity on her face and she couldn't control the huge smile forming on her face.
Piper looked directly in Alex's eyes and their faces were just so close to each other, Alex could feel herself drowning in Piper's blue eyes and she could feel Piper's breath on her face as Piper slowly closed the gap between them. This kiss was different, it was slow and gentle unlike their first kiss but it felt so perfect. And in that moment Alex swore that every other kiss that she had in her life had been wrong.
"Did I ever tell you what my favorite color is?" Alex asked as they broke the kiss.
Piper looked at her confusedly till she heard her answer.
"Blue. Like your eyes." Alex told her, her eyes fixed on the blonde.
"So, what are you doing tomorrow night Pipes?"
"Is this you asking me out on a date?" Piper quizzes her
"Because if this is, I am having second thoughts about dating you Alex." Piper pretends to be mock hurt.
The taller woman says nothing but inches closer to the blonde and holds her hand in her's'
"Ms. Chapman, would you do the honor of going on a date with me tomorrow night? Pretty pretty please?"
"I would be thrilled to go on a date with you, Al." Piper smiles back at her.
They spend some more time talking and when they walk out of the café, hand in hand, it is the most happy either of the women have felt in a long time.
The next morning, Piper was going through some scripts that Suzanne had forwarded to her when she received a text from Alex.
Good morning sunshine. Can't wait to see you, tonight.
P.S. Dress casually, nothing fancy. xoxo
She instantly smiled as she read the message and her mind wandered over to Alex. There was something about Alex, an undeniable attraction that she had felt the first night she saw Alex at the bar and she smiled fondly at the memory and pondered over how Alex had become important to her in such a short period of time. Even though, Piper had always considered that love was between people and not their genders, she had never actually dated any girls in the past and was very nervous about going on an actual date with Alex. She thought about the last time she had been excited to go out on a date with Larry. Larry was comfortable and predictable, Piper could read him easily, but with Alex, she never knew what went in the taller woman's head and Piper smiled as she remembered their first kiss, the complete unpredictability of it, how Alex had taken her completely by surprise by kissing her and then ignoring her. Piper had been so worried when Alex hadn't replied to her texts or calls that she had asked Suzanne to find out where Alex worked and she was a nervous wreck as she sat in the older women's office waiting for her. Piper didn't do this, it was unlike her to do something like this but there she was waiting for Alex to show up. And when Alex confessed to having a crush on Piper, she could feel her heart flutter at the confession and when they kissed again, there it was, the missing piece in her life that she had been searching for all along.
Piper smiled as she texted back to Alex.
I can't wait to see you too Al. The evening couldn't be here sooner.
And in the other part of town, Alex sat in her office reading the blonde haired woman's message, an identical smile on her face.
