An Important Notice
Hey there, people of the Internet. So, it I guess the last week has been a really good week to be an SAO fan. I read online that Season Three of the show (Alicization or the beginning of it anyways) is coming to Netflix at the start of October. This is relevant because I've been dying to see Alicization and War of Underworld, but I've been unwilling to watch them on Crunchyroll, because I don't want to watch like fifteen ads an episode (or something close to that). I'm stubborn like that.
Um, it was announced that SAO: Progressive is getting its own anime adaptation and I think that's really great to hear. I think that Aincrad has so many flaws because of the spotty timeline alone, so I'm really glad to see that the early days of Aincrad are going to get the treatment that they both deserve and need.
And as for the last thing, well, I think you guys know what this is by now. You guys are finally getting what you want. This is The Fatal Scythe, the sequel to The Death Game that I said I'd probably never write. I still don't want to write this story, don't get me wrong. But seeing so much SAO-related stuff happen in the past week has given me a revelation: That those readers who'd like to see a follow-up deserve to get what they want.
I didn't ever get at least ten people to tell me that they wanted this adaptation, but still, I think that I got enough people ask for it to warrant me writing. Also, I recently got a really positive review on the last story and hopefully, you'll know who you are by me referencing this. Thank you.
I still think The Death Game is a huge failure as a story and I will likely always think that no matter what my fans tell me. That's just me and my self esteem issues, that's likely to never change. But anyway, here we are. Obviously, this isn't the first real chapter. I just wanted to put in an important note at the very beginning, to explain a few things first. First of all, if there are any readers here who didn't read that first story, then you can go do it now, so you can make sense out of my take on the SAO canon with this new story.
I hope that all of the readers who enjoyed the original story and who were clamoring for a sequel will return for this one. I also hope that all of those readers are doing okay and are safe in these weird times that we find ourselves in currently. So, I want to say that SAO II is going to take me a considerably longer amount of time to adapt. And that's because I want to get it right this time, I don't want to rush this story like I kind of did with the last one, so expect lengthy periods of time in between each chapter, and I will have a beta reader to help me with this story.
I also want to state at this point that a few people had complaints when I suddenly made a slight change to the character tags for The Death Game when I started to adapt Fairy Dance. I want to explain that I did that to feature on the story information which characters were currently most important to the story. I wanted to give this explanation, because I will likely be doing it again with this story.
So, as I said, the waits will be longer this time around, but I believe that they will be justified. Also, I'm currently unsure at this point, but this may be the last SAO adaptation that I do. I originally said that I'd do them all, but Alicization is such a big thing. I had always envisioned it as Kirito being trapped in another VRMMO (while it is that to a certain extent) but it's so much more than that, to the point where my vision of Alicization is a severe understatement.
I haven't seen the anime first, mind you, but I've read up to about halfway through Volume 13 (I think?) of the light novel. And well, Alicization is kind of what I thought it would be, but at the same time, it's so much more different than that. So, if I ever to it, I'll have to take a step back when writing an adaptation of Alicization. I already feel like that it's going to take a lot of research and a lot of consideration for how I'll make a unique take on Alicization, without making it feel like the exact same thing it already is.
And if I ever adapt the Ordinal Scale movie, that will probably appear as a part of this story. It would probably be only like four chapters and I don't see why I should make an individual story just for a measly four chapters. So, if I ever do that, it would appear in this story, right after Mother's Rosario ends.
So, I have two things left to mention here. Since this sequel is happening, I've gone ahead and went back to edit the final chapter on The Death Game, in which I've implemented the build up to this story and even though it took me a while to do it, I've finally got around to responding to all the reviews. So, if you want to go back and read the small little paragraph that I left in Chapter 29 to hint towards this story, please by all means, go do that.
And if you're going to review that, then please do so here. I don't really have a good reason for that other than I just want to see new reviews over here. Actually, one last thing, if I ever decide to do a full reboot of this story, wherein I'd tell as much of the story as possible, that would take a lot of time, too. That's pretty much it. You guys are finally getting the sequel that you want and I hope you're happy about it. And I also hope that all of the readers from the last story stick around to see how my take on the SAO canon effects SAO II.
