Ok, so during the school year I had borrowed this computer from my school, and now that it's summer I have to return it. DON'T WORRY, I will continue to write through the summer. However, release dates might be random. Thank you for your patience!
ALSO, I put an important question at the bottom, check it out when you're done reading :0
(Steven's prospective)
(I'll make a marking like "~~~~" before and after gore/trigger warnings)
Steven listened as Mabel told him where everything went in the store and how to work the cash machine. He saw Dipper in the corner of his eye heading towards the kitchen, but he didn't say anything.
Soos walked into the store, "Oh hey Dude! You work here now?"
"Just for now until I can figure out what to do." Steven smiled.
"That's great, there's extra staff t-shirts in the break room!" Soos instructed.
"Ok, cool!" Steven thanked Soos.
Steven started putting little snow globes on one of the shelves. His mind wandered and he thought about Connie sitting on the beach. He wanted to talk to her and explain everything, or at least give her a hug. He sighed and looked up when he heard the bell above the door ring.
A family with three children walked in and looked around.
"Kids don't touch anything!" Their mother yelled as the children began inspecting different items around the room.
Dipper wandered into the gift shop and stood by Mabel and Wendy at the counter. Steven didn't want to be rude, but he did listen to what they were saying. They were talking kind of loud.
"I'm gonna go see if I can track down the Gremloblin today." Dipper announced "Do either of you want to come with?"
"Yeah it beats sitting around here." Wendy shrugged.
"We should invite Steven to come with us." Mabel said in a harsh and rather loud whisper.
"I dunno Mabel, it might freak him ou-" Before he could finish Mabel stood turned around.
"Steven! Wanna come with us on a super cool mission?" She smiled widely and Dipper's face turned red.
"Yeah sure!" Steven smiled back at her "Where to?" He walked over to the counter.
"Well, uh." Dipper cleared his throat "We're gonna track down the thing you almost hit with your car."
"Ok." Steven shrugged. Maybe it's a corrupted gem. If it is, I can bubble it and send it to the gems.
"Alright, when do you guys want to go?" Mabel sat on the counter and flipped her hair in an attempt to look cool. Wendy looked around the shop and Steven noticed that the family had left and the room was empty.
"How about now?" She winked. They all stepped outside the shop and Wendy locked the door behind them. They walked towards the road and Dipper pointed at the path the Gremloblin had made.
"That's the work of a Gremloblin." Dipper explained to Steven.
"A what?"
"They're a type of creature found here." Dipper waved his hand loosely towards the wrecked trees. They all started down the monster made path.
"And," Mabel squealed "if you look into their eyes, you see your worst nightmare!" Steven felt a bead of sweat on his forehead.
"Oh?" So that's why I saw… He cleared the thought from his mind. After following the trail for nearly an hour, they all froze when they heard snarling up ahead.
"Remember," Dipper whispered "Do NOT look into its eyes." They all nodded. They crept forward with caution and in the clearing before them was a huge snarling beast. It looked somewhat like a corrupted gem, but not quite. Steven didn't see an actual gem.
The monster lifted its head to sniff the air and let out a low growl. It looked directly at them and the group quickly looked down. Steven peeked up again and the beast roared. It started clawing the ground and huffing, preparing to charge.
"Run!" Dipper whispered. The three spun around and sprinted down the path. Steven froze and made sure they were out of sight before he crept closer to the creature.
"Shh, it's ok." he kept his head down as he slowly walked towards him. Steven looked at the creature and noticed it was limping. "I can help you." The Gremloblin whimpered and looked away as Steven examined the wound.
~~~GORE~~~
"You really aren't a gem, huh?" Steven lifted the creature's back paw. It must have trampled through a fence, because a long piece of barbed wire was tightly wound around it's leg. It had cut through the skin and with every step it dug deeper.
Steven stroked his hand along the beasts leg, "This will hurt, but I'll make you feel better." Steven grabbed the wire and started to untangle it. He could tell how painful it was for the poor thing because the barbs were deeply embedded in it's flesh.
With a final tug Steven got the last of the bloody wire off. The beast let out a roar of pain.
"Wait wait wait!" He calmed the creature. He grabbed a leaf and licked it, Steven didn't want to lick his blood covered hands. He gently put the leaf on the wound and it instantly started to heal.
Steven turned around and wiped the blood from his hands.
~~~~Gore over~~~~
(quick recap in case you skipped, the Gremloblin had barbed wire that was hurting it's foot and Steven helped him.)
Steven felt a nudge against his back and hot breath on his neck. When he turned around, the Gremloblin closed its eyes and reached out to grab Steven's hand with its front claws. It shook Steven's hand and let out a low rumbling growl.
"Thank you." Its snarl was barely understandable. Steven smiled up at it and the beast walked calmly into the forest without crashing into trees.
Steven started down the trail, one hand in his pocket, the other holding onto the barbed wire he had coiled up. Steven didn't want anything else to get hurt. He heard frantic voices coming quickly towards him.
"He could be dead by now!" Dipper's voice rang out.
"Shouldn't we get someone to help if he's hurt?!" Wendy's usually calm voice had a worried edge. Mabel was running full speed ahead and ran right into Steven. He fell backwards, startled.
"Careful, I don't want you to get cut on this." Steven held the wire back.
"YOU'RE NOT DEAD!" Mabel screeched and her eyes had tears forming in the corner. Dipper and Wendy had rounded the corner.
"Are you ok?" Wendy helped Steven off the ground.
"What's that?" Dipper pointed at the coil of wire.
"Yeah, I'm alright. The goblin thing wasn't mad, just hurt. So I helped it." Steven held up the wire.
"You could have died. Gremloblins are NOT nice creatures." Dipper said with a crossing his arms.
"Yeah, but it was hurt, not mad. It was perfectly nice." The walk back was long and as the day wore on it only got hotter and hotter. After about an hour of walking, they finally made it back to the shack. They stepped inside the house, tired and sweaty. They laughed and talked about the trip they had just been on and told Soos what had happened. Out of the corner of his eye Steven saw Dipper staring at him for a moment.
Weird.
Thanks for reading y'all! You guys are amazing and inspiring.
