I feel like this chapter is kinda short, and I alreay have the next chapter ready... So, I'll probably post Chapter 15 tomorrow.
(Steven's prospective)
"So do you come here every summer?" Steven asked Dipper. It was late, but neither of them could sleep.
"Last year Mabel and I came here for the first time. I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave, but I went home for Mabel. I couldn't just leave her." Dipper turned his head, "What about you? Do you have any siblings you left behind?" Steven was silent for a moment.
"No. I don't have any siblings." Steven thought about the Rose Quartz soldiers, but they would be too hard to explain without revealing that he was a gem.
"How long are you planning on staying here?" Dipper asked in a polite tone.
"I'm not sure. I had a plan to loop around the whole country, but I need to stay awhile. And I really like it here." Steven's eyelids started to feel heavy. Neither of them said anything else and Steven drifted into sleep.
When he opened his eyes he was surrounded by Blue's clouds, but they didn't give off their happy, light feeling. Steven looked around the room and the walls began to shift. The room changed and looked like the gift shop of the Shack.
A familiar triangle stood behind the counter.
"What can I get for you Universe?" Bill leaned over the counter and gestured to the shelves. Steven turned to look at what was on the shelves. They were memories. Good and bad.
"I was figuring you out as a person, Universe." Bill calmly answered his unspoken question, "I suppose I could call you Rose," Bill snapped his fingers and a gust of wind blew Steven's shirt up slightly to reveal his gem, "or I could call you Pink, if that floats your boat."
Steven felt a tightness in his throat and he felt anger building up inside him. He didn't know why he felt this way, he just did.
"Calm down, Rosey. You're turning pink." Bill laughed. Steven looked down at his shaking hands, which were turning pink. He tried to calm down, but he couldn't. A feeling of helplessness washed over him and he started to back away.
"I can help you kid." Bill floated above the counter and in front of Steven.
"What do you mean?" Steven's voice shook. He hated feeling this way, filled with anger when he had no reason to be angry.
"I have powers too, kid. I can give you control of this." He gestured to Steven's pink face.
"Really?" Steven felt his muscles loosen and he felt calm. He stopped glowing and he didn't feel angry anymore.
"See? Like that. You'll still feel your feelings, but they won't be as extreme. But this all comes with a price of course." Steven's shoulders sagged and he sighed.
"I don't have any money right now."
"I don't need money!" Bill laughed, "I can summon whatever I wish, money isn't an issue."
"Then what do you want?" Steven felt uneasy, he wasn't sure if he could trust Bill.
"You see, I'm stuck here. In the dreamscape. And I can't come into the real world without a vessel."
"I'm sure I can find you something." He could become a watermelon Steven.
"So we have a deal?" Bill stretched out his hand, a blue fire hovering over it. Steven took his outstretched hand and shook it.
"You'll get your end of the deal after I get mine." Bill explained.
"Alright, let's find you a vessel. I actually know a place where-" Before he could finish, he felt something tug on his arm and toss him aside.
When Steven woke up, he was back in the breakroom. He was hovering over his body. What just happened? Steven tried to dive back into his body, but something was blocking him. His physical form opened its eyes. They weren't his eyes, they were yellow. Bill's eyes.
Bill chuckled and sat up, "Wow Universe, you're pretty strong." He got up and walked to the kitchen. Steven followed.
"What are you doing?" Steven shouted, "I never said you could have my body!"
"But you never said I couldn't." Bill laughed and opened the fridge, "I haven't eaten in a long time." He pulled out a pack of hot dogs and started eating them without cooking them. Steven felt sick to his stomach.
He heard a noise upstairs and a few seconds later, the girls rushed down the stairs. Bill threw the rest of the hot dogs away.
"Hi Steven!" Mabel waved cheerfully.
"Morning, Mabel." Bill said before walking out of the room into the giftshop. Steven followed. Ford was opening the door to his lab when Bill walked in.
"Ah! Steven, mind if I run a few more tests today?" Ford asked cheerfully.
"Not today, maybe another time, Sixer." A look of regret washed over Bill's face.
"What?" Ford glared into Bill's eyes. Does he know Bill? Uhg, I really regret trusting him. I wonder if I could go to Beach City for help? No. What good would that do?
"I knew you'd come back, Bill." Ford snarled. He does know Bill!
"What are you gonna do about it? Hurt an innocent kid?" He bat his eyelids and put his hands behind his back.
"I will if it gets you out of his body." Ford took a step forward.
"That's true, I hate being in a weak body." Bill nodded, "Luckily, this body is stronger than you know!" Bill struck out, making Ford take a step back. Mabel and her friends stepped into the entryway.
"Grunkle Ford, what's going on?" Mabel's voice was edged with worry.
"Hello, Shooting star." Bill smiled. The color from Mabel's face drained. Bill turned back to Ford. Ford swiftly kicked Bill's knee, and Bill did the same.
"Steven?" Mabel looked around the room. "Ok, I can't see you or hear you… uhh…"
"Give him a puppet like Dipper used." Candy suggested.
"Great! I'll try to find something. Steven. If you can hear me, follow me upstairs." Mabel shouted, "You two, wake up Dipper." So they've dealt with this before. Steven noticed that Bill and Ford were outside now. I'll deal with him later. He rushed upstairs.
Mabel was digging through the closet, looking for a sock puppet from last summer.
"Did you find a puppet yet?" Grenada burst into the room, followed by Candy and Dipper.
"No! I'll just make one." She grabbed a clean sock and drew two eyes on it with a marker. "Here, Steven, use this." She threw the puppet and Steven caught it. He put it on his hand and stood awkwardly.
"Now what?" He said, not sure if they could hear him.
"Did you make a deal with Bill?" Dipper stepped forward. There was an edge to his voice, like anger or annoyance.
"Yeah, he said he wanted a vessel. But I didn't know he was gonna take my body!" Steven explained.
"So you were just gonna give him someone else's body?" Mabel took a step backwards.
"Yeah, a watermelon me." Steven realized how ridiculous that sounded.
"A watermelon you? What does that even mean?" Grenda looked at the others, but they shrugged. They didn't know either.
"It doesn't matter, Ford said that he was going to make my body weak. How does he plan on doing that?" Steven sat down on the floor.
"Yeah, everybody has their limits. Sooner or later your body will become weak and Bill won't be having fun anymore." Dipper sighed. So it's happened to him before, I'm guessing.
"Ok, but that won't happen. We need to help Ford." Steven stood back up and went downstairs. He heard them follow him. When they stepped outside Stan was watching, confused.
"Is my brother really attacking that kid?" Stan groaned.
"You're getting on my nerves now, Sixer." Bill hissed and started laughing. His body flushed pink and he rushed towards Ford. Steven flew over quickly and concentrated all of his energy on shoving Ford out of the way. Ford stumbled and looked around.
"Sorry sir." Steven winced.
"Why is he glowing? He's never done that before!" Dipper ran over to Steven.
"No, but I've done that before." Steven rushed over to Bill. He wasn't sure what to do. Bill laughed and his eyes turned pink.
"Bill, stop!" Steven shouted.
"Fine. I'll leave these folks alone. Under one condition." Bill smiled.
"I'll do it." Steven said through gritted teeth.
"Fuse with me." Bill held out his hand, Steven hesitated.
"What does he mean, 'fuse'?" Mabel looked at Bill's evil grin, "Whatever it is, don't do it! You can't trust Bill!"
Steven sighed and took Bill's hand.
O O P
