Atsushi and Kyouka

Atsushi doesn't understand anything when the teacher gives him a letter. Who could possibly be writing to him? He was an orphan, who never even saw his parents, and whom most of the orphanage hates and fears. Even some teachers pass around him in the hallways. If he would be signed in the library, it could be a letter asking for books back. But Atsushi was not signed in the library. If he had friends, it would be a letter from a friend. But Atsushi didn't have contacts with anyone outside the orphanage, where he was considered a threat. If he had relatives, he would not be in the orphanage, so it couldn't be that someone he knew was writing to him.

And when on the doorstep appears a pleasantly smiling woman in weird clothes and tells him they are going to buy textbooks, he feels strange and nervous.

~ So it wasn't a joke?

~ You think someone would do such a complicated joke for you?

Kouyou smiles pleasantly. After collecting a girl about the same age as Atsushi with long black hair and scared-looking eyes from another orphanage, they travel to Diagon Alley and enter a completely different, magical world.

~ You two will require uniform, a wand, a cauldron, scales, a set of textbooks, quills, parchment and an animal at will, - the professor tells two orphans, who look around the magic street with their mouths hanging open. The boy's unusually colored eyes stare at books with moving pictures floating in the window. Under the canopy of an ice cream parlor there is an impressive wizard with an owl sitting on his shoulder and eating the nuts from the wizard's portion. The posters on the walls move in the same way as the illustrations in the books. Trying to see everything at once, Atsushi does not immediately realize what Kouyou was talking about.

~ Excuse me, but we don't have the money for all of this, - Atsushi carefully points out, and the girl walking beside him nods in agreement.

~ Don't worry about that. For the orphans and muggleborns, during their learning, a manual is provided, which is enough for everything you need throughout the school year, - Kouyou explains calmly and gently pushes the children towards one of the shops. - When we're done, we'll buy you ice cream.

While the ruler is flying around him, Atsushi thinks that it is all a dream, and that he does not want to wake up. But the set of textbooks is as heavy as it would be in real life, and a rat in one of the shops bit him hard in the finger, so if it was a dream, he would already have woken up, right?

Sitting in front of Katai's Wand Shop, and eating an ice cream that changes its flavor with every bite he takes, Atsushi is starting to believe that this is reality.

~ Are you also afraid of waking up? – Quietly asks the girl, with whom Atsushi did not talk during the whole journey. She is also eating an ice cream and warily looks around. She is especially wary of professor Ozaki, Atsushi noticed.

~ Yes. But I don't think we're sleeping. – Atsushi answered – What's your name?

~ Kyouka. Izumi Kyouka.

~ I'm Atsushi Nakajima. If you want I can pinch you so you can see for yourself.

~ Go on – she agreed.

Atsushi lightly pinches the girl on the wrist, and she sucks in a breath. Then she smiles.

~ Definitely not a dream.

~ Yeah. – the boy agrees happily. Both for him, and for Kyouka, this is a start of an exciting new life.
