(Here's my first official Mario fanfiction. As tempting as it was to name Mario and Luigi's father Shigeru, in honor of their creator, I wanted something a tad more original. I also believed that Alonzo sounded more fitting to go with names like Mario and Luigi. I hope you enjoy and let the story begin)
A few years ago, intriguing events happened all the way at Yoshi Island. Twin baby boys were separated from each other when Kamek, the evil warlock and current ruler of the Koopa Kingdom, ambushed the stork they were being delivered by. Thankfully, the older brother was rescued by Yoshis, native to the island but the younger one was currently Kamek's captive. The Yoshis worked together to reunite the brothers so they may return home. While they would miss the child they had rescued, the Yoshis knew he belonged with his own family and they were honored to help him with that. In one last effort to stop them, Kamek empowered Bowser, the youngest and currently last Koopa in their royal bloodline, to fight them. Despite this, the Yoshis won the battle and the brothers were reunited. It is believed that Kamek wanted to capture the boys since it is possible that they are members of the star children, which are a part of an ancient prophecy in which specific children will one day change their world, not at all in Kamek's favor. Thus, he did what he could to prevent it from coming true. But thanks to the Yoshis, the boys remained safe and sound. When they arrived at their home, they were named Mario and Luigi by their parents. It seems as if the Yoshis had done an amazing thing and now they may return to their peaceful lives. The littlest Yoshi, who is named after his species, was the most curious one during the whole escapade. Barely born, he was too little to have given Mario a safe ride, he did watch the grownups and was fascinated by it all. He only wished that he could see Mario again and it was granted. The story of what they had done for Mario and Luigi spread throughout the land, including the little mushroom town that the brothers resided in. As a way to thank them, Mario and Luigi welcomed the little Yoshi to visit anytime he wants. Mario's father didn't mind having a little dinosaur around as long as he didn't have to clean up after him. For ten years after all of it and so on, he was friends with Mario and Luigi, and he started to improve at speaking their language. It turns out that they'd have a happy life with their friend. But one day, Mario's father, whose name is Alonzo, would come to a decision. Alonzo is a tall, broad man who often wore a red, plaid shirt and dark blue jeans. His eyes are blue like that of Mario and luigi's but his hair was more curly than theirs. However, he had a black, curly mustache that everyone thought was impressive. He is a faithful worker within the kingdom's castle spending a lot of time doing duties, including repairs for anything. He knew that the Mushroom King had a princess that was about the same age as Mario and Luigi, possibly a tad older. He was starting to think that it would be swell if the brothers could get along with her like so. However, he had the jitters over this proposal since he wasn't sure if it is proper to have his family interact with the royal ones like that. He knew he wouldn't find peace until he finds out what can be. Therefore, he'd take the plunge and invite the boys to come with him the next time he must work at the castle. He hoped the Mushroom King would be as friendly about this thought as he was led to believe. Late one morning, Mario and Luigi's father was taking them and Yoshi to the castle for their first time. Usually, the brothers would just play with each other at their home or the nearby forest with their dinosaur friend, but they've never gotten a chance to see the castle so close, let alone be able to go in it. As children, the brothers didn't have mustaches yet, but they did like the idea of having facial hair and wanted to grow some soon. They still wore red and green shirts but no overalls, instead they wore denim blue jeans with Luigi's being a slightly darker shade of blue.
"Thanks so much for inviting us here today, papa, being able to go inside a castle for the first time is so exciting!" Luigi chimed gleefully. He could only imagine what this day had in store.
"It sure is and thanks for letting Yoshi come with us. It would be a lot more boring if he had to wait outside all day," Mario added. Although it wasn't everyday that Yoshi is with them, he was glad to have his dinosaur friend by his side for this special one. Mario and Yoshi always got along right away after the time when they rescued Luigi from his kidnapping and became greater friends since.
"It's fine, boys. Just remember, I came to work so I can't be looking after you and Yoshi the whole time. Also, it's obvious that the castle isn't ours, I hope you'll behave yourselves; I can't imagine what it's like to get on the Mushroom King's bad side,"
"Don't worry, papa. We know how be nice to everyone. But let's go in, I always wondered what the castle life would be like," Mario struggled to keep his excitement contained. Ever since new laws have been passed a few years ago, it's been harder for people to have permission to enter the castle. He didn't know why, and he became discouraged since he believed his chance to enter it would never come. But now it would arrive thanks to his father, what a great day this had been so far. Alonzo decided to take their word for it for he wasn't one to judge. Mario and Luigi would spend most of their time outside of their home, playing in the nearby forest or swimming at the lake. Even when they were home, they were respectful towards their parents and that's all he could have really asked for. A couple of toads guarded the doors. They happily greeted them as they allowed them in. Once inside, Alonzo breathes in as he always enjoyed the fresh aroma of the castle in the morning. Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi look around in amazement. Yoshi hadn't seen a castle like this grand until he saw Bowser's. Only this one wasn't as scary as that one. This one not being so scary was quite an improvement in comparison.
"There are so many places, to go. I think my head will get all dizzy and spinny if I keep looking at them all," Luigi says, he was a little overwhelmed but excited to see everything.
"I saw a balcony as we were going in. I want to get up there and see the from up there!" Mario was also getting ahead of himself. Considering this is his first time being at a castle, he is in hopes to have fun being here. Yoshi, however, is just interested in what the castle had in the kitchen. He is hoping there is plenty of fruit since he hadn't eaten a decent melon or banana in a long time. However, they can't just go anywhere, not while the king still isn't aware of their presence.
"Let's not get carried away now. We must visit the Mushroom King first and then we'll decide on what to do. He should be in his throne room, let's go everyone. First, they got to see the inside of the castle, now they get to see the Mushroom King in person," This was so much so fast. Mario was becoming nervous since he suddenly remembered that he had heard bad stories from the toad and goomba children who say that the Mushroom King is a tough man who takes everything very seriously and he can be scary if agitated. He wasn't sure if meeting him was such a good idea. But if he was going to stay at this castle, he wasn't going to have a choice. Upstairs and after making a few turns and going through a couple of corridors the throne room is found. It's a large room where the king governs over his land and works on making the Mushroom Kingdom something incredible to be seen by all. The king had a black mushroom cap that has yellow spots, for the top of his head. He wore a purple robe that had yellow linings. As for facial hair, he has a black, pointed mustache and beard combo. He is present with Toadsworth, a middle-aged toad with a tan mushroom cap and brown spots on it, he has a fine, curled mustache and a pair of glasses to help him see. Alonzo approaches as the three children stay behind for the moment.
"Good morning, my liege. I've arrived to do my maintenance for the castle, today. I come to you today because I have arrived with my sons and their dinosaur friend, from Yoshi Island. The reason why they are here, is that I wanted to give them a chance to see the castle for the first time and because I was wondering if they may become playmates for Princess Peach Toadstool. I know, I should have discussed this with you before actually bringing them with me, but it's not every day that I get to work here and I was so uncertain on how to approach you with this request, that I might have jumped the gun. Regardless, I hope this isn't a problem. Otherwise, I'll send them back home and then get to work as intended," After hearing this, the Mushroom King stops to think, he wasn't aware that Alonzo had any boys, let alone ones that were around the same age as Peach. They appeared to be a tad younger, but they'd still make fine playmates for her. Having been within the castle walls for so long, perhaps now it was time for a change.
"Alonzo, I think letting your boys and baby Yoshi play with my princess will be a fine idea. I'll have Toadsworth watch over them for the meantime, if there is any trouble, I'll go and see it for myself. But don't worry, your children should be perfectly safe here. But before they play, may I know who they are," Hearing the king's request, Alonzo knew that introductions were always in order when it came to meeting new people.
"Of course, we have Yoshi, the dinosaur named after his own race, Luigi who is my youngest son and then we have Mario who is my oldest one," After being identified, the three of them decide to greet the king, themselves.
"Yo, Yo!" Yoshi cheerfully exclaims with a jump. In his language, it was an honored but excited way to say that he was glad to be there. He was excited to tell the other Yoshis of what he has seen so far.
"Hello there, Mr. The King, thanks for letting us stay here," Luigi chips in. Even though he was feeling shy, he knew this was going to great and he had a good feeling about the Mushroom King so far. Perhaps he'd be nice after all.
"Oh…hi, Mushroom King. This is uh, a great castle. We like it so far," Mario finishes off the greetings. Although, he sounded much more nervous and uncertain than he usually does. It's unlike him to be so self-conscious but he still feared that things would go wrong somehow. The Mushroom King was the one to notice this. He knew Mario was bothered by something but believed that he would get over it once he felt more welcome.
"Welcome you three. It's not so often that children get to see the inside of my castle. There is so much to do and so little time to do it that we can't have as many guests as we'd like. But today is a different kind of day. I hope you'll enjoy your stay, and I am certain my princess will be thrilled to have you as her new friends. Would you like to meet her now?" The Mushroom King heartily and kindly says to them. While Luigi and Yoshi seem joyful over that offer, Mario struggles to make up his mind on it.
"Well, we uh, I think we-" He couldn't find the words in him to describe it and then he is cutoff by the Mushroom King.
"Of course, you do! She is through a few corridors to the west. But don't worry, Toadsworth will be the one to guide you there. Before you know it, you'll be meeting a new friend," After the king said that Toadsworth knew what he had to do and stepped forward.
"Certainly, sire. I will guide the children to the princess at posthaste," Toadsworth obediently but calmly confirms. "Yay!" Luigi says to express his excitement.
"Yahoo!" Yoshi added. But then they both glance at Mario, waiting for him to share the excitement with them. He turns to them and notices this.
"Yippee," He complies in a monotone voice. He believed it was best to just get it all over with. Their father was glad that they are safe and welcome, but he had more to do than just stand and watch.
"It looks like it's time for me to get to work. I'll pick you boys up later go have fun," With their father gone, Mario and Luigi had no idea where things would go from here. But Toadsworth would finally guide them to where they wanted to go and stop before a large door at the end of a hall.
"Princess Peach Toadstool is inside. Master Mario and Master Luigi do holler if you run into any trouble when playing your games. Same goes for you as well, Master Yoshi," He'd then open the door and remain right outside of it, to guard them. He believed they'd be safe while in Peach's room. They take in the scenery immediately and are intrigued by what they see.
