Fyodor and Kajii
Dostoevsky opened the door to the dungeon, where the potions classes were being held. It was a spacious room, with a low ceiling, with desks standing in rows, facing the front of the classroom. The fourth-years were already filing in, and sitting themselves behind the desks. Fyodor began the lesson as usual, tapping the blackboard, where instructions for the Calming Draught appeared. He explained the process in as little detail as possible – everyone in the class had eyes, they could read the writing on the board.
The next fifteen minutes passed calmly, with students checking the textbooks, making notes, chopping ingredients and stirring their cauldrons. After some time, Fyodor began to wonder whether he should be apprehensive. This fourth-year class contained Kajii Motojiro, a Gryffindor with a talent for exploding things. 'Things' usually happened to be his cauldron, so Fyodor always felt apprehensive to more trouble from the Gryffindor. For now, however, things were quiet, so Dostoevsky had no reason to worry. Soon, differently colored vapors and fumes began to rise from some of the cauldrons. Fyodor immediately knew who made what mistakes in their potions, and who did their potions correctly. He watched Edogawa mess his potion up spectacularly by adding his candy into it instead of the ginger root. He saw Kunikida checking every step in the textbook, confirming it with the board, and only then completing the task. He looked at Tachihara, whose band-aid fell of his nose and into his potion, making it completely unrecognizable. He watched as Dazai began teasing Nakahara about his potion which was brewed incorrectly because of too much armadillo-bile, saw Chuuya retaliate by flinging a crocodile heart into Dazai's cauldron. The potion immediately turned from light blue to blood red. In anger Dazai knocked over Twain's potion, which he was trying hard to correct. It resulted in Twain staining Kunikida's ideals. The latter immediately proceeded to strangle Dazai.
Fyodor watched as Motojiro added some lavender and peppermint into his potion. He started stirring it carefully. Fyodor decided that maybe, maybe everything will be calm today (or as calm as it may be when Dazai is being strangled by Kunikida) and turned to criticizing Edogawa for having candy during the lesson, while Ranpo himself was mourning his candy that was now in his failed potion. Chuuya and Twain were cleaning their workspace, Tachihara trying to fish out his band-aid, and it seemed that the only person still working was Haruno, who was carefully following the instructions. No wonder she was his best student.
BOOOM!
An explosion was heard in the dungeon, and Fyodor was jolted from his thoughts and half-hearted attempts at criticizing Ranpo (he didn't listen anyway, why bother?) by the clouds of billowing smoke and droplets of potion.
Once the smoke cleared, he saw Kajii, covered from head to toes in ashes and potion, looking at the remains of his cauldron with a forced frown on his face. It was obvious that he was trying to hide his wide grin, at the force of the explosion.
~ Professor, it seems I forgot to add the crocodile heart before pouring in the armadillo-bile, and I also overdosed on the peppermint. I think the explosion was worth it though – he continued with a large smile plastered on his face.
~ Detention Mr. Motojiro and 30 points from Gryffindor. Next time, be more careful with your potion. Class dismissed.
While the students filed out of the potions classroom, Kajii took out a small notebook, and started recording the results of the explosion. – Stay behind, Mr. Motojiro, we need to arrange your detention.
15 minutes later, Kajii left the dungeon for lunch, still scribbling away in the notebook. He was muttering under his breath; stuff like "if we add just a bit of Bulbadox powder" or "Salamander blood would have a better reaction", until he arrived in the Great hall.
