Yosano and Margaret

Margaret Mitchell, the matron, was a busy woman. She had patients to attend to – students were coming to her each day for different things like healing potions or with broken bones, because they had fallen of a broom, or got injured at care of magical creatures. It was driving her INSANE! She definitely needed an assistant.

So the next day, notices appeared in each common room, for an assistant in the hospital wing. Anyone who wanted to help should visit the matron and learn more about healing and how to do it. Akiko Yosano, a 5th year who wanted to be a healer decided to try, because she needed experience and for better practice. That day she went to the hospital wing to find madam Mitchell. Margaret liked her and accepted her. She knew about Yosano's ability, even though she was not informed about the finer details, in particular, that the injury has to be life-threatening.

For some time, everything was going well, Yosano was a nice and kind girl, she did what she was asked to do, always doing her best, and she learned quickly. Margaret was happy.

On the other hand, having Akiko as her right hand came with its own minuses.

First, she often tried to do work by herself. She did it brilliantly. It annoyed Mitchell, that a 15 year old could perform healing spells almost as good as herself. She is the matron here after all, and Yosano was just an assistant! How should she know what spells to perform and what potions to give to the patient? Well, turns out she does.

[flashback]

Dazai enters the hospital wing with pain in the ribs and a horrible headache. Chuuya punched him in the ribs. Margaret starts to tell the boy to lie down in the nearest bed and give instructions to Yosano, but the girl does not listen. Instead, she goes to the cabinet with potions and takes out two small bottles. She gives them to Dazai. Margaret recognized two types of anti-pain potions – how does Yosano know that Dazai hates pain? They're not even in the same year! Well turns out she does. She quickly performs a spell that mends the boy's broken ribs – how does she know what spell to use? That was really complex magic! Well turns out she knows.

[flashback 2]

Kajii walks into the hospital wing covered in immense puss-filled boils and feathers growing out of his hair. What has the boy done this time? He started explaining how his potion went wrong, and splashed him right in the face. Then, because of his explosion, Nakahara started throwing stuff at him because of points lost and Slytherin becoming first in the house cup (Chuuya didn't want Dazai's house to win the cup yet again) and a crocodile heart bounced of his face and accidentally slipped into his cauldron resulting in ANOTHER explosion, and that is where the feathers are from. Yosano patiently listened and then performed a number of complex spells, that she learned who knew where, and Motojiro was back to normal again. HOW? Without even Mitchells help! How does she know it all?

[flashback ends]

The second, extremely large minus of having Yosano around, is her desire to use her ability. The girl has shown herself to sometimes be overly sadistic with patients. Margaret unwillingly noticed that she would make a great torturer. Well, as long as the girl does not use her ability everything will be fine, Mitchell supposes.

[flashback 3]

A Ravenclaw first-year was brought in by his friends. His face was bloody, and Mitchell supposed that at least 6 of his ribs and a leg were broken. He fell 100m of a broom during flying class because he wasn't focused enough and let go. They placed him on the bed and looked inquiringly at Mitchell. She approached the bed and started performing minor spells to see how large the damage was and if any organs were punctured or anything else.

Her spellwork was interrupted by an approaching Yosano who held a knife in her hand. She started slashing the student with the knife, as the matron and other students were watching in horror. They would have already done something, had they not frozen in fear… next second there was a blinding flash of light, and the injured student was sitting on the bed, perfectly healthy. Yosano smiled, and left to her common room.
