The awakening? What the hell is that?
"The awakening? What is that?" I ask. Reiji sighs,
"You see, when Yui was taken in by the church, part of Cordelia's heart was placed into her body" I cringed when he said that; it's sick.
"As Yui grew, Cordelia's heart fused together with Yui's. The awakening is the final stage when Cordelia's immortal heart engulfs Yui's human heart and takes full control of Yui's body. This will occur after both Yui's heart, and soul are destroyed." Reiji frowns and pushes his glasses up his nose, shaking his left softly.
"We had no choice in the matter. We initially tried to stop it, but our father told us he wanted his beloved back, and he said if we went against his orders, he would kill us." I gasped at that. How could their father be so cruel?
"But," Subaru interjected.
"Our father is dead now and is no longer an obstacle." I suddenly thought of a question.
"Subaru, how come you didn't want me to talk about this out loud? Don't Kanato, Ayato, and Laito know about this?" Before Subaru could respond, Reiji answered.
"No, they do not. It would be best not to tell the triplets because if they knew, they would kill Cordelia and probably end up killing Yui too. This must be done in a certain way and with a certain weapon," Reiji finished his answer and got up and went into his bedroom. After a few minutes, he came out with a small case in his hands.
"What's this?" I ask as he hands me the case. I felt a cold breath on my neck as Subaru looked over my shoulder at the case curiously. I slowly opened it. Inside was a small silver dagger with a red jewel on the handle.
"Wow, it's magnificent." Subaru breathed as he stared down at it in awe. I felt a mix of fear and despair as my gaze landed on the dagger.
"Why are you giving this to me?" I asked, dreading the answer.
"Well, you see- Subaru, don't!" He yelled as Subaru grabbed hold of the dagger and screamed in pain.
"Ah! What the hell!" He said and dropped the dagger, which clattered loudly to the floor. Subaru grimaced in pain and held his hurt hand against his chest. I stared in shock as some of Subaru's hand now had a patch of skin missing and blood pouring from the wound.
"Subaru!" I ran to him, intending to grab his hand but thought better of it and stopped in front of him. I whipped around to Reji in a panic. "Reiji, why did it burn him!?" Reiji exhaled sharply and placed his hand over his face in exasperation.
"If I could have finished," He glared at an injured Subaru who was too busy applying pressure to his wound with his hand to notice. "This dagger is purified, so we can't touch it and," He glanced over at Subaru and clicked his tongue.
"Just a moment, that is very distracting." He leaves, comes back with a bandage and a bottle, then goes to Subaru and pours some of the liquid from the bottle onto his hand. Subaru sucked in through his teeth and slammed his hand into the wall nearest to him. The wall cracked, and small paint particles dropped onto Reiji's clean carpet.
"Subaru, will you stop making a mess of my room," Reiji barked.
"Shut. The. Hell. Up." Subaru ground out between clenched teeth. Reiji wrapped the bandage around Subaru's hand and stepped back. "There, that should heal in a couple of hours." He turned back to me.
"Now, like I was saying. One stab through Cordelia's heart with this should kill her and bring Yui back unharmed." I nodded slowly, trying to comprehend what he was saying.
"So, how are you guys going to stab her? I thought you guys couldn't touch it?" Subaru looked away, and Reiji's lips turned up in a hint of a smile as he gave me a knowing look.
Wait. No. They don't mean... I dropped the case I had been holding.
"Me? You want me to do it? Oh, hell, no!" I exclaimed.
"Amaya, it's either you or we don't get Yui back. Ever." Subaru reminded me gently. I swallowed hard. Am I prepared to risk my life for Yui? Part of me says hell yes, but the other part says hell no. I pushed that part deep down, took a deep breath, and picked up the dagger and case, releasing the breath before I looked at Reiji and Subaru.
"Fine." I relent.
"I'll do it, I will save Yui." Subaru smiled, and Reji nodded curtly in understanding.
"Alright, you must do it tonight. Before the sun comes up." Reji stated monotonously. Tonight!? I thought I'd have more time. I felt my legs start to shake, and my heart jumped up to my throat. I have to do this for Yui. I hid my fear and walked out of the door. Subaru was right behind me. Once the door had closed behind us, Subaru pulled me close, and our lips met passionately. He licked my bottom lip for entry, which I gladly gave. His tongue was soft as it caressed mine. I moaned into the kiss as Subaru's hands slid down my back to cup my butt. He pressed against me, which forced me to step back into the wall across from Reji's door. I let out a breathy moan as my back hit the wall forcefully. Subaru pulled away just enough to see my face, and his tongue slid over his bottom lip as he looked down at me. I ran my fingers through his hair and pulled him back down, embarrassed how red I'm sure my face had gotten. He trailed kisses down my jaw until he reached my neck. He slowly trailed his tongue down my neck until he was just below my collar bone. I felt his fangs press against my skin. I gasp loudly as his fangs sink in. The area he bit was much more tender than my neck. It was a different kind of pain. As if sensing my pain Subaru begins to gently squeeze my breasts over my shirt. Reiji's door slams open, startling us. Subaru rips his fangs out and pushes himself off me inhumanely fast, leaving an intense pain radiating from the bite spot. I wince and slap my hand over the wound, all the while giving Subaru a sharp glare.
Reiji glared at us, his red eyes glowing with rage.
"Do not do this stuff in the middle of the hall!" He shouted,
"Get out of here, Amaya!" Both Subaru and I turned to leave.
"Subaru, you stay. I need to have a word with you." He said curtly before turning on his heel and heading back into his room. Subaru gave me a longing look before walking into Reiji's room and closing the door. I stare at the door for a few minutes, worried about what fate awaited Subaru. I shook my head and walked away. I have work to do. I take the dagger out, slip it into my pocket, and headed up the stairs. When I got to Yui's door, I knock a little harder than necessary, adrenaline already pumping through my veins.
"C-come in," Cordelia answers in Yui's voice. Ick disgusting. I open the door all the way and step in.
"Amaya, hello, so glad you came by. I was starting to get thirsty." I sit on the bed, keeping my back to her. She crawls over to me and sniffs my neck from behind.
"I can smell the blood pulsing through your neck." She giggles
"It pumps faster, the closer I get to you. Are you scared, Amaya? Is that why your heart is beating so fast?" She smirked. I turned around and looked her straight in the eyes, not letting a shred of fear show.
"Look, Cordelia, if you're going to bite me, then bite me. Stop teasing me. It's annoying." I glare at her. All I get in return is a patronizing smile.
"Aww, are you trying to act all big and bad, Amaya?" She coos and runs the back of her finger down my cheek. I grimace. Now I know where Laito gets it from. She wraps her arms around my neck loosely and pulls herself closer to me. My dagger is only a few inches away from her. I need to be careful. I feel her nose pressed to my neck, and I hear her inhale deeply.
"It smells so sweet." She whispers to herself. I slowly pull my dagger out of my pocket, careful not to attract her attention. I get the dagger in position. I hear her snicker, and suddenly, she grabs my wrist tightly and brings my hand up to my throat. I try to wrench my hand from her grip, but she's too strong. Cordelia presses the dagger in, and I felt the sting as a trail of blood travels down my throat.
"I bet you're scared now." She says devilishly. She presses the dagger harder against my throat, drawing more blood.
"I could just end you right here..." She presses in harder. I exhale softly as tears fill my eyes. She's right. I am scared. I'm fucking terrified. Completely at her mercy. Right when I think she's about to cut my jugular and kill me, she forces me to drop the dagger.
"Did you think I was stupid?" She smiles, throws her head back, and laughs maniacally.
"Did you think I would actually fall for something like that?" she asks between spouts of laughter. She runs her finger over my neck and brings it up to her lips.
"Mmm, your blood tastes good." She dug her fingers in my hair and yanked my head back. I could feel the skin on my neck ripping open at the angle. I cried out in pain and tried to grab her hand, but she grabs my arms and pulls it behind my back, eliciting another pained cry from me.
"I don't think so. You're not getting away this time." She said before sinking her fangs into the cut she had made with the dagger. I bit my lip to keep from screaming at the amount of pain she was forcing me to experience. I managed to only make a small squeak of pain as her fangs sunk in deep into my throat. My body starts to tremble, and black dots form around my vision.
"You're getting weaker," Cordelia comments with a lick of her lips and a smug smile.
"Are you going to back out? Already? Well, you probably won't be waking up again. Maybe. It depends on how I feel." Her voice is fading farther and farther away. My eyes slowly drift close. I can't keep them open anymore, the pain, it hurts so much. I wish it would just stop...As I lose consciousness, I hear her say,
"Night, night, Amaya."
