[Chapter 6] August 2002
August had arrived two weeks until SummerSlam but today was the day Paige could leave, at least Paige still thought like that. She could leave Shawn behind and the pain she was in, since two weeks. Two weeks she cried herself into sleep every night. She tried to get a new start on the so-called "hard game", but no one was willing to go along with flirts anymore and she didn't understand why.
At work she still tried to play the tough girl and until today she got this working well. But today she would learn that there was someone who cared about her more than she thought.
[Shawn … POV]
I have to make this right again. I can't let her leave, if I am allowing this I will never see her again and losing her forever, this is not going to happen. In the worst case I have to tell her that I lost and she won, just to make her stay. Or maybe she would believe me if I told her what I am really feeling for her? Ah no, better not.
Paige arrived at the office and Shawn was already waiting for her.
What do you want?
"Honey, can we talk? Shawn asked as softly as possible, although he wanted to hug her as he saw her eyes.
No, there is nothing to talk about.
"Honey, please."
Shawn, it's still the same I am not your honey, sweety, baby doll or whatsoever, just let me be.
"Ok, Paige we really need to talk."
No we don't. I am not staying long anyway. I'm just leaving the final storyline for Randy and Vince.
"You are finished?" Shawn started to feel something like panic.
Yes I am. And this marks my last day here in this…..
"Paige, no listen… we really have to talk." Shawn followed Paige in her office and closed the door.
Shawn, just… but she couldn't finish, Shawn cut her off.
"Paige, damn sit down and just listen to me."
No Shawn, you won, I lost. It's ok, but now I really have to go.
Before Shawn could say anything, she had left her office and the building.
Shawn, angry and frustrated as never before, on the way to his locker room stop at Hunter's he needed someone to talk to.
Hunter:"Come in."

Hunter:"Hi, Shawn. What happened to you?"
I lost the game and her. Yeah I know everyone warned me it would possibly backfire.
Hunter:"Sorry man. But I told you. Just tell her how you 're feeling."
It's over Hunter she is leaving today. I wanted to apologize but she didn't give the slightest chance to say anything at all...
Hunter: "What do you expect, ok she played you, but she didn't do anything different compared with your past. But what you did…. taking all her possible cards out of the game. And the whole card game on your side, she just left the table."
Yeah, I know it was a mistake, but I can't even make it right again.

Oh great idea Hunter, she has no home yet, she has just the hotel room, she wanted to look up an apartment but I guess she is leaving the US again...
Hunter:" Then you should get to her room , like now?"
Good idea but she will not let me in.
Hunter:"Ok, I am coming with you and I am playing the guy who keeps your door open."
Thanks but that doesn't mean she is talking to me.
Hunter: " Damn, shut up and let's go."

Hunter knocked on Paige's door.
Come in, it's open.
Hunter: "Hi, honey."
Oh hi Hunter, oh jesus…. you have your puppy taken with you uhm?
Hunter:"What puppy?"
Shawn: " Hell I am not a puppy, honey."
Jesus, how often do I have to tell you….
Hunter:"Paige he knows, just do me the favor and talk to him."
Shawn:"Honey, please."
Ok, 10 min not a minute more.
Shawn:"Thanks, honey… sorry"
Hunter:"Ok I leave the two of you to this."
Shawn:"Thanks Hunter."
Hunter:"Just get this fixed Shawn and everyone can go back to normal life again."
Ok Shawn, talk.
"What? Oh ok, I am sorry."

"No I didn't, I cheated. I told the guys if just one goes along with you he is done in the business."

"I cheated, so actually you won. Because I am going nuts."

"You said you love me, before you fell asleep that night. And when I saw you right away flirting again, I was going completely nuts."
Shawn…..
"No, you were right. I have gone too far and I wanted to ask you not to leave."
Shawn….
"Honey, please, tell me you are staying."
Shawn… I am….
"Sorry shouldn't have said that."
Shawn, not every smalltalk is flirting and not every kiss means something, I just do that. I don't think about how it looks.
"Honey, please don't go."
Shawn…
"Damn, no I just can't let you go." Shawn dragged Paige tight to his body, wrapped an arm around her waist and leaned into her, settling his lips down on hers. His tongue eased out playing with her lips and slowly sliding into her mouth teasing her tongue. Paige moaned into his kiss. As he broke the kiss and looked at her.
"Honey, tell me you stay." Shawn asked again.
"OK, babe I am staying." leaving his embrace, started jumping like a teenager and leaving a surprised Shawn looking at her questingly.
"Ha, game over, I really won, I won. It worked. I don't get it." Paige was so excited she didn't even see Shawn's face.
"What do you mean?" Shawn was
"Oh, you took every of my cards out of the game. So, I needed new cards, Boy Toy. I told you I can play."
"You played me again? What the heck…"
"No, Shawn, not really, I cheated, I had help."
"What ass….."
Hunter: "Me, Shawn."
Shawn was furious, he tried to get to Hunter, but Paige stopped him.
"Honey, I said I cheated, actually it's one to one."
"You are incredible, you fucking played me again. And you used my best friend against me." Shawn was pissed, at the same time he was happy like a teenager just for the information she didn't leave.
"Ok where does this shit leave us?" Paige looked at Shawn expecting an answer. He just very quietly left her room, without Hunter.
"Oh, shit, he is really pissed."
Hunter: "No he is not, He knows that it wasn't fair game. But you can't keep doing what you did. He will not take it in the same way as the first time. So, when you are done with your new strategy, can we go now?"
"Thank you, Hunter. Otherwise I would have really left."
Hunter: "Oh I can't allow that my best friend is losing his girl."
"No we can't allow Shawn to lose his girl. Let's see if he gets it this time." Paige laughed when she l left the hotel with Hunter.
Back at the office Paige got call.
Vince: "Good morning, Mrs. McGowan."
Good morning , Mr. McMahon.
Vince: How did the plan workout?
Oh I won. Why?
Vince: Change of plans, you're on a storyline with Shawn.
What? But you promised me that this would not happen.
Vince: "Paige, this childish game is over now we should go back to business right?
Yeah, you are right, ok then.
Vince: " Meeting with Shawn tomorrow."
Yeah, I'll be there. Paige ended the phone call.
Vince: "Shawn? Are you satisfied now?"
Yes, Vince thank you. Even the fans know how she is, everyone is talking about that HBK style girl backstage, right.? I have a suggestion for a storyline.
Vince: "Ok Shawn, let's hear this suggestion." After about 20 min, Vince was sitting in his chair and laughing loud.
Vince: "Good idea, this will be amazing, I put someone on it you have the baselines today."
"Thanks, Vince, if this doesn't workout I will give up."
Paige was a bit uncomfortable. She hadn't seen Shawn for two days, but it felt like yesterday that he left quietly her room, not one word since that incident. She knocked on his door.
"Come in."
"Hi, Shawn. Uhm, we shall talk?"
"Not really, I shall give you this storyline from Vince to work it out."
"Ok, what is it?"
"Read it and you get a you later honey."
Shawn left Paige without any further conversation. Paige started to read the storyline, and became furious.
"OH no, no we will not do….." As Paige was in the hallway she just saw Mark and Kevin smiling at her like they would know what was going on.
"Hi Paige, is everything fine?" Mark asked with a smile.
"No Mark, nothing is fine." Paige was angry at Vince, not even that he put her back to Shawn's storylines, no, now she should be a part of the storyline.
She knocked on Hunter's door.
Hunter: "Come in"
"Hunter, I will not do this."
Hunter:"Shawn's storyline? C'mon it's a great idea, HBK and the girl HBK style are a couple. Ha, this will be amazing."
"All of you are into this right, that's why everyone around me is smiling silly."
Hunter:"Right, everyone knows and everyone thinks it's a great idea. But the only choice you have is to talk to Vince. Shawn will not give an inch of this storyline out of hand."
"So you mean I am screwed…. right"
Hunter:"Nah, wouldn't say it that harsh but, yes you are screwed, you are not getting out of this."
"Oh great, I am so fucked, I shall write a love story… between Shawn and myself. Oh great."
Hunter: "What comes around, goes around Paige. Just write the storyline."
Paige, back in her office, was sitting at the desk and stared on this paper in front of her. A love story, great. At the end of the day, she knocked on Vince door and delivered a love story with a happy ending.
Vince: "Great work. I think Shawn will go along with this."
"I hope so, otherwise I will….."
Vince:"No Paige, we don't fix another war between the two of you. Shawn is already working with creatives on your outfits." So this will happen, understood?"
"Ok, I will try not to start a war again, promised."
Paige was desperate to get this working. But how shall that work, each kiss, each hug, Oh Jesus….
But when she arrived at creatives, to check on her outfits, she was surprised. Shawn had them make identical outfits, just the top different. But the both of them would wear the leggings, the chaps, the cowboy boots and the cowboy hat.
Her storyline started easy going, she should be at ringside invited by Vince, she would handle the bell this evening. Shawn would come up and before he would enter the ring, taking her in front of all cameras and kissing her ringside, Vince would give a comment like. "Oh, Shawn's new good luck charm." And from this point on Shawn's announcement would be the following:
Making his way to the ring, from San Antonio Texas, weighing in at 225 pounds, The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels accompanied by his girlfriend Paige McGowan.
So Paige got dressed, makeup and out on ringside. At the Gorilla she bumped into Shawn.
"Hi, honey see you soon." He grabbed her ass and smiled. Ush, I kill you Shawn…..
She took her seat at the bell and only a few seconds after that, Shawn's music hit, and the crowd was going nuts.
As Shawn arrived at the commentators table, he approached Paige, took her hand put her on her feet and dragged her into his arms.
"Honey, let's see how long you can act before it gets serious." Shawn whispered in her ear and before she could even answer, Shawn's lips settled down on hers and his tongue slid into her mouth kissing her passionately.
"Wish me luck honey." He whispered before entering the ring. For sure Shawn won his match and thanked his good luck charm again with a very real passionate kiss.
