Enjoy some OC stuff X3
(Also, Ruby is Alric's little sister and Oscars mom, at least in this fanfic anyways XD She is also an OC)
Alric was in his office as usual when he heard a commotion outside his door, before he could get up he heard a knock.
"Count, there is something that requires your attention!" Oxbloods voice rang through.
"Come in." the Count replied.
Oxblood walked in, followed by his students and Kryptina.
"The students have just informed me that they saw a human at the old stables!"
The old stables were rather deep in the woods below the castle, the only humans who ever went there were Paladory and his ancestors.
"And it's not that bumbling oaf Paladory ether." Kryptina added.
"Me and Stoker saw some strange lady looking at dat old building!" Clot chimed in.
"I was there too. She was staring up at the castle too!" Leechy added.
Oscar looked rather depressed, and a bit high strung.
"She's likely just some tourist! I bet she'll go away on her own! There's no need to frighten her or anything!" Oscar seemed frazzled, likely due to his rather pacifistic nature.
"A tourist?! That deep in the woods!? We hardly even fly through there! Let alone walk!" Gothetta argued.
"I bet she's Paladorys new assistant! Or maybe some expert vampire hunter!" Stoker added.
"Stoker, I find your theory unlikely. Paladory was nowhere in sight, and she was clearly unarmed." Leechy stated.
Alric was growing annoyed by this banter, he pinched bridge of his nose and sighed.
"Vampire hunters never seem armed, Leechy." Oxblood corrected him.
"Also, she waved at us and smiled!" Stoker argued.
"Plenty of people wave at bats!" Oscar countered.
"Enough!" Alric hissed in his quiet yell, standing up from his desk abruptly.
They all instantly shut up, and the student's coward a bit.
"I will go investigate this issue, and if need be, take care of this stranger."
Without another word he shifted into bat form and left the castle, flying towards the old stable house.
It was rather unusual to see someone there, the building was overgrown and had essentially been abandoned. The building hadn't had been used since his mother died when he was but 21, which was around 400 years ago. She loved horses and made sure her kids knew how to ride, but when she died his father wanted nothing to do with them. He sold the horses and the stable keeper left. Alric would have protested, but father had done it while he was gone. Alric had come home to the castle to find his little sister crying in the garden. She was 9, and had just lost her mother, and now her horse too.
Ruby….
He finally arrived at the stables and shifted back into his normal form. He didn't see anyone, but there was the scent of human.
And the sound of a pulse.
A human heart beat above him, in the dense tree. Before he could react, he heard branches breaking, an alarmed yell above him.
More out of instinct than anything else, he stood back and caught the falling object, which wasn't actually an object. It was a woman.
She had oak brown skin, short curly black hair, and sharp green eyes. She wore a thick moss green sweater, jeans, and hiking boots. She was clearly quite short and petite.
Vampires often joked about having no heart due to having such slow pulses, their blood just simply didn't pump as fast as other creatures.
But in this moment Alric could have sworn that his heart actually stopped beating.
"She looks just like…."
"Oh! Thank you for saving me!" She smiled kindly up at him.
"And she sounds just like….!"
Like Amira.
Alric carefully put her down, trying not to stare at her, which was almost as hard as his current struggle not to have a conniption and/or a panic attack.
Her looks were the same, her height, her voice, even her accent was the same!
"I was at the top of that tree, trying to find out how to climb up to the castle. I need to ask the owner of this building something. I guess I need some climbing practice..." She chuckled.
He attempted to snap out of his daze and respond.
"That castle is abandoned." He stated firmly.
She smiled warmly.
"I'm a witch, you don't need ta lie. I know about the cryptid underground around here, that's the Von Horrificus Castle."
The would certainly explain the human scent and pulse rate. Magicborns are very human in species, apart from their powers. This made them viewed rather oddly by the vampire community, the determining factor normally coming down to appearance. If they dressed the part then they were generally accepted with no issues, but those who dressed/acted more liked humans, then they were just viewed as essentially humans.
She appeared to lean towards the ladder.
He put away is confusion, he's have to deal with his stress later. He raised a brow at her, wondering what she could want; "Why do you wish to speak to the owner..?"
She looked at him a moment quizzically, before smiling a bit sheepishly.
"I'd judge by your tone that you, are the owner."
He quietly nodded; "Correct."
She motioned to the house. "I was hopin to rent the place…"
He blinked.
"You want to rent that? Surly your joking?" The Count didn't usually drop his aloof attitude, but this was so bizarre.
She chuckled. "I know it could use some work…"
"An understatement. It's overgrown, there is a tree growing in the living room, all the windows are broken, bits of the roof are gone, parts of the walls are collapsed, and there isn't really a floor anymore ether. It'll be next spring by time you get that all done!" He ranted.
"I don't know about that, I'm a pretty fast worker." She smirked and gave a wink, which gave him a flashback that made him want to melt.
"Why do you even want to live here? Your accent is clearly American, why are you all the way out here?"
The woman kicked at the dirt and shrugged, then she looked at the deep woods.
"I'm not sure, I've just always wanted to come to Romania. I got my chance and chose this area because of the name. Then when I finally got here, I did some hiking…this forest, the lake. I just…I don't wanna leave."
She turned back to him.
"I fell in love with the area, and now I feel home."
He smiled a little bit, but quickly hid it again. She did weirdly fit in with the area…
"Well, I suppose if you're willing to fix it up, then you will have certainly earned it." Alric responded slowly.
Her face lit up.
"Ok, now, how much do I pay in rent?" She smiled joyfully.
He raised a hand and shook his head; "I was never going to use this building; it would be rather unmoral to charge the only one who actually has any interest in it."
Suddenly a part of the building wall fell to the ground.
"Besides, you're going to need every cent you have to fix that structure."
Her smile positively beamed, and once again he internally melted. Her happiness was adorable and those thoughts made him want to slap himself. He fell for a human once and all it did was cause him pain and a metaphorical permanent stake in the heart. He would not fall again! Even if she wasn't technically human…
A thought then occurred to him.
"I apologize; I haven't Introduced myself. I am Alric Von Horrificus." He tipped his hat to her.
"Oh, right! I'm Amira Greenvain."
The feeling that name drop caused him, could best be described as a rubber band around his heart suddenly breaking and hitting him in a lung. It was like somebody sucker punched him in the stomach, all while the ground opened up beneath him and tried to pull him down.
"What god did I piss off?! Why is the universe doing this!"
Amira; "Are you alright?"
Alric; "Oh, uh yes."
Amira; "You just sort of looked like you were having a stroke."
"I might be! It would certainly explain a lot!" The distressed vampire thought to himself, though kept is expression blank. "I simply remembered….That Paladory lives not too far from here." Alric lied, attempting to hide the fact that he was sort of having a stroke.
She raised a brow "Paladory? Who's that?"
"A vampire hunter. He's not very good at it, but he is incredibly persistent. I'm not sure how he treats witchs, but I don't image his views of them are much better than of vampires." The Count explained.
"Is he that short man with the large white mustache and deer hunting hat?"
He nodded "Yes."
"Ah, I saw him hanging up anti vampire signs around town." She placed a hand on her hip as she recounted the memory.
The vampire grimaced, the Paladory clan had this bad tendency of getting more determined with age. Perhaps he could get lucky and the next Paladory generation would move out of town…
She started smirking playfully at him "But don't worry, the posters all 'mysteriously' burst into green flames." She stated with a playful wink.
That was the straw that broke the camel's back, or rather, the charm that broke the vampires steel nerve. If he heard her say one more charming joke or sentence, he'd surly go into a coma.
"Well…I suppose I should get back to my school…I'll leave you to your building. Goodbye." And with that he hastily turned into a bat and flew back home, leaving her scratching her head about his strange behavior.
As the Count flew back to the school he thought about the situation. He had read about reincarnation before, but surly that's not what she was. It couldn't be the Amira he once knew, it had to be just a cruel twist of coincidence. He was not good enough a man for such a miracle.
Right?
An alternate title of this is "Alric has a mental breakdown/suffers every two seconds." XD
