"Are you sure of that?" the Doctor asked the little girl, detecting a scam, "That collar's for a big dog. With long white hair. Nice con, though. Respect." The Doctor spun around to grab the wrist of the boy trying to steal his sonic screwdriver.
The boy and the Doctor struggled.
The girl kicked the Doctor's shin. "Run!"
The Doctor shouted in pain. The boy wrenched the sonic screwdriver out of his grasp and the kids ran. The Doctor flew after them and Bill chased. The nearby soldiers didn't care. The boy was at the Doctor's fingertips when the children ducked into the crowd and the Doctor was forced to swerve sharply upward. He flew over the crowd, searching for the small children in the mass of people.
He flew back down to Bill. "What happened to the girl?"
"Does it matter? The boy's the one with your magic wand," Bill said.
"Doctor! Doctor!" Bill shouted, running across the cracking ice.
"Bill! Bill!" the Doctor shouted, running to the ledge along the side of the frozen Thames.
"You did it! She's free!" Bill exclaimed. She jumped toward the Doctor as the ice cracked beneath her feet.
He jumped toward her. They clasped hands and the Doctor flew her away from the cracking and splashing. He descended and landed gently on the sturdy ground.
