First, Trauma Center belongs to Atlus, Nintendo. I think I've falling (happily) back into Trauma Center again so I wrote something new for you all. Hope you enjoy~

Summary: Derek's well aware of the consequences whenever he uses the Healing Touch once, but Savato's a special case and having the Healing Touch activate twice...can lead to consequences Derek wasn't aware of.

Consequence of using the Healing Touch…Twice

"Nurse Thompson, please repeat what you saw when Doctor Stiles performed the operation on Professor Blackwell. We sadly don't have any camera footage to review and we all know that Derek's in no fit condition to talk," Robert Hoffman asked as he looked at the tall nurse standing on the opposite side of the desk. Sidney waited patiently on his chair as he watched Angie, his eyes locked onto her as his mind tried to piece together when he and Victor saw during the operation. He saw that the Healing Touch had activated but the Savato was still quicker, still darting around and creating multiple lacerations around itself before moving to another location on the heart and repeating it. He blinked and the next thing he knew all the lacerations had been treated and Savato struggling until it eventually broke apart.

"Can…I just ask a question?" Angie looked determined at Robert. The older gentleman smiled and leaned back in his chair and nodded. "Is it possible to activate the Healing Touch…twice?" She questioned him.

"Activate the Healing Touch twice? That I cannot answer. I don't believe it's possible to activate the Healing Touch twice based on how it reacts with the person using it. That gift puts a lot of stress onto the body and as you've seen in Doctor Stiles, puts him out of commission for three days at least. If you're suggesting that Derek did just that, you're looking at a miracle how he didn't collapse during the operation," Robert spoke to her. From the report that he got from Sidney it very much looked and sounded like Derek had done it. There just wasn't enough information on the Healing Touch Robert could find that could give them the information they needed.

"I guess you're right sir. Still, I think it would be better for Derek to explain the operation better. Unlike the other operations Derek was focused intensely on the battle between himself and Savato. I apologise," Angie frowned at what she was saying. She could say the whole operation and what happened (until he used the Healing Touch) but she needed to admit something else. She wasn't aware that her gaze had left Robert and shifted back to him before continuing, "I couldn't separate my emotions from the operation."

"That was my main concern for letting you go there in the first place," Sidney spoke up before he smiled slightly. "Derek raised a valid concern though which pushed my concern out the window. You've worked with Derek and you've adapted to when he's used the Healing Touch and somehow kept up with his speed. From your advice we'll wait for Derek to wake up and then when he's ready to talk about the operation."

"Where is Doctor Stiles resting?" Robert asked as he stood up from his desk.

"He's currently resting in a make-shift bed in his office." Angie felt relieved that Derek had kept that bed in his office if he used the Healing Touch for some reason, he wouldn't be taking up a hospital bed or the staff bed for members of staff who were working long shifts and needed a nap. Knowing that he would be out for a while was the main reason why he did this. From the looks on both Robert and Sidney she would need to explain. Maybe another day though as they followed Angie back to Derek's office.

Angie punched in the code to Derek's office and slowly opened the door. They were immediately greeted by heat which Angie had left on to provide a more comfortable rest for Derek (even if he wasn't aware) along with having the blinds drawn over the window. The sun still did its best to peek out from under the blinds or even trying to peek from the sides but the room was still dark.

"Please wait outside while I turn the light on," Angie spoke to the two gentleman and only moved when they both agreed. "I know he's in a deep, deep state of unconsciousness but I still believe he has the right to have a comfortable environment to rest in."

"I understand," Robert smiled as he watched Angie slip inside the office and closed the door. Sidney and Robert waited outside patiently for Angie, giving them time to chat to each other. Neither had been aware of the make-shift bed in Derek's office but after going over other possible ideas the bed in the office was the best solution. Their beds were important for patients who were either waiting for an operation, test results or recovering from an operation they had gone through. The door opened again and Angie returned.

"Okay, the light is dim, please come in." She opened the door wider to let the two gentlemen in. When they entered she closed the door to prevent any more heat escaping and the brighter light entering the office.

The office was illuminated by a dim orange light, the desks that belonged to Derek and Angie were on opposite sides of the room with enough space for the pair to walk between the desks and towards the windows to see outside the hospital. Close to the heater in the room was the bed where Derek lay comfortably still, a digital clock was placed nearby so when he awoke he could check the time and day. The bed itself didn't look comfortable but it could be folded and put away which was the main thing, the pillow didn't look comfortable either but everyone had their own preference. Derek's glasses were placed nearby too so he wouldn't struggle to see after waking.

"He doesn't toss or turn, just stays absolutely still and breaths steadily," Angie whispered. "He only starts to move when he's about to wake up."

"Please alert us when he wakes up and feels comfortable to talk. We shall leave him to rest."

Angie watched as Robert and Sidney left shortly after that. They had seen the make-shift bed and were somewhat impressed that Derek had thought that far ahead but she can see that there was something bothering them. They both wanted to know what happened at the research facility but they would just have to wait. Angie felt like she was looking after a patient at times when Derek was in this condition, she wanted to protect him from everything she could. With a smile on her face she glanced back to her sleeping friend and walked over to him and sat down on the floor.

"You know Derek…" she started before stopping herself, what she wanted to say seemed to have vanished from her mind. "No, sorry…it's gone. Maybe that's a good thing though." She reached over to Derek and gently caressed his face, running her fingers over his skin. "Just…please wake up soon, okay."

Derek groaned as he slowly opened his eyes and was met with a dim light in the office, well that was a first for him. His memories were slowly returning to him before the image of Savato appeared in his mind which seemed to jumpstart his mind. He sat up quickly and watched as the room began to spin, he closed his eyes and waited for the spell to finish. When it finished he opened his eyes and noticed the IV drip in his arm, he allowed his eyes to follow the line and noticed the drip. How long had he been out for that he needed what was a solution of both water, electrolytes and nutrients to be put directly into his body? He glanced around at the clock and read that the time was 3:13 am while the date was the 10th of October but he couldn't remember what the date was when they went to the Delphi base. The door to the office opened slightly as someone slipped inside.

"Ah, you're finally awake Doctor Stiles," Derek recognised the owner of the voice.

"I didn't think you'd be working at 3:17 am?" Derek smiled at Sidney as the older gentleman approached. There was a smile on Sidney's face along with a look of relief mixed with it.

"You've been unconscious for a week now. I asked a few members of staff if they were willing to look after you and make sure your body still received the nutrients it needs along with other needs," Sidney informed Derek.

He had been unconscious for a week? Maybe that was the consequence of using the Healing Touch twice in an operation? He still wasn't sure how he managed to achieve that…but he was glad that he did otherwise he couldn't have stopped Savato. Professor Blackwell…Angie's father, he could never understand how she felt while he operated on the strain. The fear of him failing, for her father's death, for Savato to win. If he failed how would she have reacted to him after that? Would she hate him for failing to save her father despite having saved so many others? Would she resent him for failing? There was too much at stake while he operated that time that he couldn't bring himself to think those options. He defeated Savato.

"Is Angie okay?" Derek asked Sidney who nodded.

"She's been visiting her father and is slowly re-building their father daughter bond. We've been worried about you though. I don't think you're quite ready for work just yet though. Take it easy Derek, you deserve it."

"Yes sir."

"Seems you're ready to return back to the front lines," Tyler joked as he gave Derek the call clear. With a sigh of delight Derek smiled happily. He had to take extra time off to make sure that everything was okay before he could perform an operation. Instead he had been given lighter tasks such as paperwork and chasing up patient's notes. It wasn't the worst but he did miss getting ready for an operation and having a patient under his knife so he could help them. "Just still take things easy and don't use the Healing Touch like that again, okay?" Tyler's expression shifted from carefree to serious before breaking out into a wide smile again.

"Then let's hope that's the one and only mature Savato case I have to perform for a while. I don't enjoy having a week of my life ripped away from me. Three days is bad enough," Derek said. He watched as Tyler agreed with him on that comment. The only other person he suspected knew what it was like to lose days would be Robert, someone else who had the Healing Touch but he hadn't used it for so long Derek suspected that the older gentleman wouldn't remember. Tyler placed his hand on Derek's shoulder, Derek looked at him with confusion on his face before the look on Tyler's face made him realise what he was going to ask.

"So, when are you going to ask her?" Tyler asked. Derek was sure that Tyler secretly had devil horns and a tail at times.

"I wouldn't tell you."

"Aww, come on bro! I've had your back for everything!" Tyler whined and complained but Derek stood his ground.

"If you really want to know, wait until next year. I'm sure we've still got to really nip the G.U.I.L.T flower in the bud before we really do anything else."

"You got a point…we're still trying to track down where Delphi's main base is. From talking with Professor Blackwell we've become aware of a base far out at sea where Delphi created the G.U.I.L.T. On there should be the original hosts of the different G.U.I.L.T strains which I assume you'll be going to?" Tyler asked, dropping the immaturity for a moment and becoming serious.

"You bet I'll be going, I'm going to finish this."
