Chapter Two
"I'm sorry—what was that?" She implored scathingly, her coffee had gone cold and she hadn't had a decent nights rest in God knows how long! And these—these ... filthy bacterium dares to ask such things of her. Her?! The Mistress of Death?! Woman Who Conquered, Genius Immortal Avatar of Magic itself. Her eye twitched and the tension in the cafeteria—like-place she had brought them to, in the subterranean facility, — was palpable.
Beerus was chewing on the inside of his cheek and he could feel the vein on his forehead throb as he thought of an appropriate answer that wouldn't land them in a deeper pit. Goku had been subdued easily and was now wrapped in chains with powers pressing cuffs on his wrists as soon as the idiot mentioned the Tournament and how it came to be.
Hercule panicked and tried to calm the irritated woman. "Now—now hang on j-just a moment... c-can't we talk about this..." He fumbled and shut up when he was met with her fierce ice melting glare.
"Quiet you annoying protozoa. I wasn't talking to you." She commanded having already taken down Majin Buu and Goku who had dared to defy her, with nothing but her old power suppressing cuffs and a paralytic device she had constructed as a minor percussion for when and if her Project woke earlier than it should have, without a soul. Henrietta had no patience for silly games unless it was for her darling little Zeno, her curse green eyes flashed threatening at the GOD. "I don't like repeating myself Beerus. Why should I help you? It is of no consequence to me." Now isn't that a pleasant surprise for them?
They gaped at her and Whis hid his small grin behind the ball of his staff. He, of course, knew this to be true. As the Mistress of Death, she is a crucial part of the natural order without her life cannot continue at a functional pace. It would eventually lead to chaos and the cosmos would, in turn, become non-existent. Gohan and Piccolo were sitting either side of the restrained Goku and Vegeta was leaning against the cafeteria entrance. The two Kaioshins were behind Beerus while Majin Buu was lying face down on the ground at Mr Satans feet.
Beerus frowned at her, his yellow eyes narrowed and his black claws tapped on the table in front of him. Suddenly a grin spread across his face as he spoke believing to have called her bluff. "Now, Henri—we both know you would miss this dirt-ball planet. If this Universe were to be erased there won't be an Earth for you to return to," he said confidently as he looked down at his nails as if he was no longer interested in this conversation.
She quirked an eyebrow at him and leaned back on her bench reassessing the GOD in front of her. "Hmm, your not as incompetent as I had originally believed. Very well, I can aid you in this. An exception once, not twice, remember that Beerus if you ever—and I mean ever—ask something this high of me again I will personally escort you to the Empty. Where you shall stay for the rest of eternity. Is that understood?" Henrietta demanded authoritatively and Beerus bit his tongue to not say anything he would regret, opting to nod feebly instead.
That didn't satisfy the Mistress of Death her curse green eyes burned brighter her tone was condensing and hard, she was directly in front of him now. "I. Said. Is. That. Un-der-stood?" Punctuating it with a poke to the Deity's sternum.
Beerus swallowed aloud sweating profusely as he nodded again his voice no longer held his previous arrogance. "Y-yes." He turned his head to the side to avoid her venomous stare.
Smirking Henrietta dusted off his shoulders, poked his nose and ruffled his head. "Good," she said before un straddling him preparing to leave the cafeteria before pausing in the doorway next to Vegeta. Not looking back she said equally bone-chilling. "Oh—and Beerus?—if I ever, and I mean ever hear you call me Henri again there will be no GOD for Universe Seven. Now leave. The lot of you, I have work to do. You will see me when you see me." She said cryptically before snapping her fingers releasing both Majin Buu and Goku from their bound state, then again sending them back from whence they came.
She sighed heavily rubbing her nose in frustration. "Is Ickle wickle Potty, gonna cry?—I Killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!" a voice cackled at the back of her mind. Letting out and annoyed scream she punched the concrete wall next to her taking out a sizeable chunk and shaking the structure of the building, the nanites would repair it in time so it didn't matter at the present. God, she needed a drink, something strong and maybe order some pizza too.
She let her feet lead the way. Finding herself lost deep in her memories. The screams of a younger naive Henri 'Harry' Potter as she watched her godfather fall into the veil. Tearing her hope away. The small frail unmoving feathered snow-white body of her first friend at the bottom of her cage. The fragile and bloody smile of Fred her first and only love. She needed to get out of this place, it was driving her back into the pit of depression. It had been centuries since she had last felt this way. Lost and Longing. Holding a finger to the earpiece, "HEDWIG, I'm going out for a bit. Keep me posted on the Projects progress will you?" she asked tiredly.
"Of, course Mistress. It is what you created me for." The smart assistant replied and Henrietta withheld a sigh as she huffed a light laugh untangling her bun.
"HEDWIG?"
"Yes, Mistress?"
"Don't ever change."
"Of course Mistress, was there anything else you require of me?" Her digital voice somehow sounded so human to Henrietta.
She shook her head. "No, nothing else as of this moment. I'll be back around noon."
"Very well. Do have fun Mistress. I hope you shall endeavour to not get yourself into too much trouble if it pleases you, Mistress." The digital assistant implored.
Henrietta laughed as she left the facility a little lighter. Tapping mindlessly on the white glove device on her right hand activating the nanobots that resided in the device, the morphed around her forming into a motorbike. She was still very much a speed demon and these particular nanobots were programmed—with the aid of some alchemy and inlaid with various runes—to shift when she Willed it to. A large part of all magic—was intent and will based. Making it much easier than it would have otherwise been to create the nanobots and a similar process was used for her nanites.
It didn't take long to reach West City on her nano-bike. The vehicle was fast but the facility also wasn't too far from the outreaches of the City perimeter. The feeling of going fast was just so... freeing it was a shame her Firebolt was gone... a new project idea perhaps? She wondered why she hadn't thought of it sooner.
Pulling to the curb she let the nano-bike reform into her glove. Ignoring the stares and whispers the act garnered she flicked her ebony hair out of her face, entering the intended building. It was a Pizza place, when she wasn't in the lab she would come here to gorge herself on the greasy food before going elsewhere to get smashed. Someone bumped into her disgruntled Henrietta dusted off the shoulder they hit and smiled apathetically as whoever had been unfortunate enough to walk into her crumpled to the ground behind her. Dead.
She was in a mood she didn't need nuisances such as the likes of that bacterium hanging around her longer than they should. It was their time anyway if it wasn't they wouldn't have died. Simple as that. What Lives Dies... eventually. The bell rang above her head as she stepped into the threshold, the smell of pizza dough and sizzling cheese ensnared her nose in its heavenly aroma. God, this was exactly what she needed.
"Hey. You, the lady in the black trench coat. Don't I know you from somewhere?" someone rudely called to her just as she was about to place her order. It wasn't a trench it was an overcoat two completely different things. Sighing through her nose she turned to the speaker and blinked before grinning at the blunette that stood before her in casual summer clothes a little lavender haired boy stood at her side and a small blue hair baby was in her arms.
"Bulma! I almost didn't recognise you!" She said cheerily despite feeling like crap, she crouched to eye level with the baby, and made silly faces to make her laugh. Letting the little girl hold her finger with her tiny baby hands as she turned her attention back to Bulma. "Who're these little cuties?" She asked as she ruffled the boy's hair with a grin, the boy flushed. So cute.
He slapped her hand away from his head and attempted to scowl at her his arms folded across his chest, reminding her of one of her recent guests. "I'm Not Cute! I'm Awesome! And my names Trunks, how do you know my mum?" The kid—Trunks—said with a pout.
"Trunks don't be rude. This is Henrietta my fathers old assistant and one of our cooks. Henrietta this is Trunks—he's... a—"
Henrietta held up a hand to stop her. "You can say it, I met his father not quite an hour ago. He and that little group he hangs around came to ask a favour of me." She said non-committedly in a bored tone, she noted the boy seemed to narrow his eyes at her then. Hmm, observant isn't he? She thought.
Bulma stared at her old friend for a second before nodding, "That would explain why he didn't come straight back after the little expo thing they went to." she scowled. Henrietta raised a delicate brow at the woman absentmindedly ordering her pizza and heading over the required Zeni.
"Yes, I suppose it would. I'm afraid I can't be too long I have a Project to get back to."
"Oh, and what might this project be?" her friend implored teasingly Henrietta rolled her eyes. She certainly wasn't the type to date, one night stands sure but the commitment wasn't possible with her line of work.
Then her eyes lit up mayhaps Bulma could assist her with the Project... before recalling the unfortunate fate of her son at the Cell Games. Her finger suddenly felt wet and Henrietta's eyes widened when she saw that they were in the babies mouth quickly retracting it and wiping it on her coat. "Yugh! Well it involves androids I'm afraid—more specifically Bio-androids—I don't believe that it would be safe for anyone else to be in the lab when I awaken it. I am more durable than the average human I'm sure Whis could attest to that..." She trailed off when one of the pizza place's employees handed her, her order.
Bulma sighed and rolled her eyes at the older woman's antics. "Well goodbye then. It was nice to see you again. We should schedule another girls day I'm sure Chi-Chi and Videl would love to join us. Catch up and shop." She offered and Henrietta found it difficult to say no.
"I supposed I could do with a longer break... alright I think I can fit it. How's this Saturday sound?" She drawled with a sly smirk gracing her lips. This would work out perfectly for her, she was due to fetch the soul tomorrow morning and her training schedule for the Project would be taking up the rest of the week leaving only Saturday and Sunday free and she had a small experiment she wanted to try on Sunday.
Bulma smiled warmly back, "I think I could work with that. Take care of yourself, Henrietta. See you Saturday." She called as Henrietta left the shop easing the conversations around her.
See you she mumbled before mounting her nano-bike that appeared from her glove and driving off to find a pub or bar.
That concludes the second chapter.
