A/N #1: I was very happy to read the feedback for both chapters I posted last week so I'll get started on my thank yous for those! TORONTOSUN (It was great reading you liked how Beckett spent Mother's Day. And I was pleased you thought it was good writing too!),
Mb (Great to see you thought the prologue was exciting and tense with the cliffhanger too, did my best to make it as much as possible! And I wasn't surprised you mentioned the other two chapters you have to read, lol, but yeah, it'll be a bit before it's that scene. I was really pleased you're looking forward to the mystery in this story! You're welcome for the chapter!) and
Mb (It was nice seeing you thought the beginning of Beckett's Mother's Day was fun and sweet with all four of her daughters waking her up, along with them having breakfast in bed with Castle too. And I was glad that you thought their plans were fun celebrating both the holiday and Sophie's first birthday with their friends. I had to laugh at you commenting that Sophie and Josie are going to be best friends, but I'm not surprised you did! I also wasn't surprised at you mentioning Martha getting closer to staying at the Hamptons permanently. Or that you think Castle and Beckett will be fine with her staying the week there. Not surprised you laughed at how Beckett let Castle know what they will explore later that night, or that you said it was a win-win for both. You're welcome for sharing the first half of the chapter! It was great to see you thought the second half was a sweet, funny and loving update. I'm really glad I still have you intrigued about the case since it's revealed the four of them are together in DC, hopefully that'll continue! I'm really happy you thought the gifts for Beckett and Martha were beautiful since it's tough to think of just the right thing. And I was pleased that you loved Beckett and Martha's bonding moments, thinking they have mutual respect and love for each other as I really thought they would have a really good relationship on the show if things hadn't gone the way they did. My family and I are staying safe, hope yours are still and you're welcome for letting me know and asking too! You're welcome for sharing the second half of the chapter!).
Thanks so much for the reviews, I loved reading them and appreciate the time taken to write them all and send them my way!
A/N #2: The title of this chapter is a lyric from the song Fire & Rain by James Taylor, from his album Sweet Baby James.
About Things To Come
Walking into the terminal at Dulles, Beckett was looking down at her phone but seeing nothing was there she texted Skye to let her know they had arrived before she sent out a second. "Hopefully she'll tell me where we need to go soon," she told her husband as they were heading to the luggage carousel.
"Do you think she can get in to pick us up?" Castle asked her.
"I think she'll try," Beckett replied. "But I'm not sure if she can make it."
"We'll find out," Castle said before he heard her text alert sound. "There she is."
"No," Beckett said with a smile. "It's from Julia."
Looking at his watch Castle said, "She's-"
"She's in between," Beckett said. "She said Can't wait to talk to you tonight. Say hi to everyone for me," she read to her husband.
"Are you answering her back?" Castle asked.
"I am," Beckett replied as she was typing. "We can't wait either," she told him. "We'll say hi but please get back to school."
Castle chuckled at that and when there was a responding text he asked, "What'd she say?"
"Nothing," Beckett told him with a smile, showing him her phone.
Taking it, Castle soon saw that Julia had sent them a laughing face emoji and said, "At least that was it."
Smiling Beckett replied, "Would you expect her to keep going?"
"No, since we'd cut her off," Castle said. He smiled at his wife squeezing his hand before they started to walk again, going to the luggage carousel. The luggage from their flight was already starting to go around and they hurried together to it, spotting their two suitcases before they were turning to make their way outside. "You didn't want a cart?" he asked her.
Shaking her head Beckett said, "We can take them," as they hadn't brought a carryon suitcase. She was looking ahead of them before she saw a familiar face and smiled saying, "There's Patrick."
"Go," Castle said as he was taking her suitcase.
Looking at him, Beckett thanked her husband when he nodded to her and she was hurrying over to her friend. "Oh!" she said when he picked her up slightly and spun her around once as he was embracing her tightly. "Why?" she asked when he set her down shortly after.
"Because it's fun," Darnley replied easily.
Rolling her eyes, Beckett then hugged him as tightly as she could while he was doing the same to her. "It's been too long," she said to him before they let go of one another.
"Way too long," Darnley said, nodding his hand. "Hey Rick," he said.
"You've been holding onto my wife for too long," Castle said. He laughed when the detective playfully raised his hands before they were shaking each other's and were hugging briefly. "She's right, it's been too long," he said. "And though it's for a case…"
"Great to see you?" Darnley asked. When the writer nodded, he laughed himself before he said, "She's good?"
"I am," Beckett said firmly before the two men were looking at her. "Just ask me Patrick."
"Next time I will," Darnley said. "Now come on, we need to go."
"Where's everyone else?" Beckett asked him.
"You'll see," Darnley replied before they were walking off the main corridor in that terminal.
"Patrick?" Beckett asked when they were going through a door that read Employees Only.
Shaking his head, the detective was showing his badge to a man that was at a security check point and telling his friends, "I'm sorry, they need to search your bags or you can leave them here."
"Leave them here," Beckett said, her husband nodding in agreement.
"Okay, this is a checkpoint so it's the same as outside," Darnley said. He was relieved when the two nodded and they went through it after him before they were going down a flight of stairs to the lower level of the building. When his friend grabbed his arm, he was about to explain to her what was going on when a voice spoke ahead of them, making them all turn their heads.
"Hullo," Skye said, smiling at them. "Don't look so serious, we're not getting to the cases yet." She walked up to Beckett and hugged her tightly saying, "Fantastic to see you again."
"It is," Beckett said before they let go of each other. "Where's Mary?"
"I get the feeling that means why is she with me," Skye replied. She shook Castle's hand and hugged him quickly before saying, "Partially because it's May; I get the feeling it's what you're thinking. The other reason is today she's at a convention for psychiatrists that work specifically with first responders and; in her case; the NTSB and flight crews."
"That's where she is now?" Castle asked as they were walking through the building again.
"She is, but she's aware of both our cases," Skye replied.
"She's just in the one meeting?" Darnley asked her.
Nodding her head as she was opening a door that led out to the tarmac, Skye said, "She'll meet us at your room. You got your same suite, right?"
"We did, but we can't check in until three," Castle said.
"Leave that to me," Skye replied.
"You have weight here?" Beckett asked in surprise.
Smiling back at them as they had reached a vehicle for four, Skye said, "Enough."
"You're going to wear your jacket?" Castle said.
"Abuse of power," Darnley told her in a sing-song voice.
"Shove off," Skye said jokingly as she sat in the driver's seat. "But really, they would know me from previous visits."
"Why'd you stay at that other hotel that one time we came here?" Castle asked.
"When you were protecting me?" Skye replied as she started the vehicle.
"No, when Patrick and I met again," Beckett said.
"A friend of Mary's recommended it to us," Skye said. "And she was really insistent that we go. But we prefer the Mandarin. NTSB West does too."
"Great, but where are we going now?" Beckett asked as she was watching where they were driving. She and her husband watched with the two ahead of them as a KLM plane landed.
"That's a 777," Skye commented.
"Thanks for letting us know, but really," Beckett began. "Where're we going?"
"To the hangar where our incident's plane is," Skye told them before they went the rest of the way to the structure. She pulled directly in and called to one of the workers, "Close her up."
"Do they know why we're here?" Castle asked since no one was looking at them.
"They do," Skye replied. She smiled briefly when her friends looked at her in surprise and said, "Trevor and I had a meeting and we told them you'd be coming. They're interested in seeing if you can add anything to what we have."
"They know about our cases," Darnley explained as he saw the pair's surprise.
"And they remember you from the two cases before and our flight," Skye said, speaking rapidly. "Jenson," she said to a man who was looking at a wing detached from the fuselage being held up in the middle of the hangar. "Where's Nkosi?"
"On the pathway," the man replied, nodding up to the metal bridge above the plane.
"Anything in the wiring?" Skye asked.
"Everything's looking set so far," Jenson said, shaking his head. "MacCallum found some paint transfer and she's on the phone to Thailand where it originated."
"Where was it?" Skye asked with a frown.
"Under the right wing," Jenson replied.
Thinking about that for a moment, Skye shook her head and said, "I get the feeling maintenance didn't clean it up after a runway incident back in Bangkok but have MacCallum continue. I'll be with the IIC."
"Yes ma'am," Jenson said. "Detective," he said, nodding his head as Skye had told the three to stay there.
"Jenson," Darnley said with a slight smile. "Do I need to make introductions?"
"Oh no," Jenson replied. "Everyone knows Mr. Castle and Ms. Beckett," he said, nodding to the two.
"We don't recognize anyone from the last time we were at this hangar," Beckett said, as it was the same one the plane Skye was investigating seven years ago had been stored in.
"Word gets around," the investigator herself said as she walked up to them. She handed them hard hats and said, "Mandatory for the bridge, essentially we needed them once we came in here, but I thought he'd be in the office over there." Skye set her hard hat on her head and walked to the staircase along the side of the hangar.
"We still can't know?" Beckett asked.
"My case," Darnley told her. "We can't let them hear about it, though they're aware of it."
"How's Sumner?" Castle asked.
"She's good, she's looking at stuff for me now," Darnley replied.
"Is she okay with us coming in?" Beckett inquired.
Smiling, since his friend's tone was suspicious, Darnley nodded his head and said rapidly, "She is, she knows how you two work and she was eager to see you guys again." Since they'd reached the top of the stairs, he looked down the bridge to his husband and called out in Xhosa, "Silapha."
"We're here?" Beckett asked Skye as Nkosi was walking back to them.
"Good guess," the investigator said with a smile.
After Nkosi had greeted the two, the group headed downstairs before he and Skye were going to another investigator, talking to a woman while standing under the right wing.
"Who is that?" Beckett asked Darnley, though she wasn't sure if he knew.
"MacCallum, she'll be in charge once we leave," the detective replied.
"They can do that?" Castle asked. When the detective nodded, he turned to his wife and said, "Is it wrong of me to say I'm starting to feel like there's a plot for a book here?"
"You haven't even heard what's going on yet," Darnley said.
"It won't matter," Beckett told her friend with a smile. She then grew serious and said, "Let's wait."
"You should bring back Sky though," Darnley replied.
"We might," Beckett said before she looked at Skye and Nkosi.
"Alright, we can go now," he said first. "But we'll need a car and it's around the hangar."
"How're Maddy and Keo?" Beckett asked as they were walking outside.
"Great," Darnley said.
"Maddy is loving school," Nkosi said, sharing a smile with his husband. "And she asked us the next time she w… she'll get to see Eliza again."
"Are you speaking with contractions?" Castle asked him.
"I am," Nkosi said.
"It's the bloody higher ups," Skye said, shaking her head. "The new Chairman asked him to learn. I'm not sure why the hell that matters but if he tells me to get an American accent, I'll tell him to sod off and you can go back to speaking as you're more comfortable with."
"It's alright," Nkosi said, hesitating a bit at the start. "I suppose it's a little hard to understand for some people and I speak with a lot of them." When his fellow investigator snorted, he shook his head and said, "I'm fine with it."
"I wasn't happy about it," Darnley said as Beckett was looking at him. "But it was up to him."
"Here," Nkosi said. "We better get going though, we need to come back."
"So we're checking in now?" Beckett asked as Nkosi was driving them out of the airport.
"That would be nice, we need a room to discuss everything in," Darnley answered.
"I do need to ask, why are our suitcases here already?" Castle asked.
"I told them to bring them to the car," Skye explained. "I thought you might leave them so you wouldn't have to open them."
"They didn't open them to take them into the car?" Beckett asked.
"No, since an employee brought them straight here," Skye said. "Is that okay?"
"Yes, I'm just glad they're coming to the hotel with us," Castle said, not surprised when his wife smiled.
"Where is… where's Sumner?" Nkosi asked his husband.
"Still working, she knows we're going to tell them about the cases and she's fine with us doing that," Darnley said with a nod.
"How're your girls?" Beckett asked Skye while they were driving into DC itself.
"Great," the investigator said. The car was silent for a while and Skye turned to her saying, "What? You want me to go over them all?"
"We have a half hour to go still," Castle pointed out to her.
"To be honest everything's going well," Skye said. "The youngest three are settling in and enjoying being in California. That reminds me. How're your girls?" She laughed when her friend pushed at her shoulder lightly and said, "No, we're wondering."
"They were surprisingly okay with us coming here," Castle commented.
"They just want us to have dinner here on our own," Beckett added.
"That should remind you," Nkosi said to Skye with a smile.
"I recalled," the investigator said. "Though I was going to tell them after we talked about the cases." Skye turned back to the two and said, "I hope it's not presumptuous, but we got reservations at Muze tonight for dinner."
"The six of us?" Beckett asked.
Nodding Skye said, "We tried to invite Sumner and her husband, but they're having dinner with her father tonight."
"How's she doing?" Beckett said, turning to the detective.
"Good, her daughter is thriving," Darnley answered, smiling as he thought of his unofficial goddaughter Gianna. He got his phone and opened a picture of the nearly two-year-old girl saying, "She loves playing with Maddy and Keo."
"She's cute," Beckett said, smiling at the one on the screen. "Her hair," she then commented.
"We joke Gianna is one of the kids from Village of the Damned," Darnley said.
"She doesn't like us saying that," Nkosi said. "But she does understand the joke," he said as the parents of his and Darnley's goddaughter were both darker haired.
"At least she doesn't mind," Beckett said with a smile.
"No, now tell us about your newest house," Darnley said rapidly.
Beckett laughed before she and Castle were telling the two a little bit about their Mill Valley home though they still had a little bit to go before it was officially. It made their drive into the city itself much faster and she was relieved when they'd gotten to the hotel. She let Castle check in with Skye once they were in the lobby and she said to her friend, "I wish you could go."
"I know," Darnley replied. "But we'll absolutely be there for Spain."
"We can't wait," Nkosi said, pausing for a moment on the contraction.
"It wasn't difficult for you to learn?" Beckett asked him in concern.
"Don't worry," Nkosi said. "Patrick helped me, and it was… it helped."
"It was sexual," Darnley commented before he was looking up at the ceiling.
"Sometimes you're too much like Rick," Beckett told him in amusement. "But it did help I think."
"I definitely needed it to," Nkosi said, smiling at his husband.
"So I don't need to be worried about you two?" Beckett asked them.
"Oh no, we're very well," Nkosi said, squeezing Darnley's arm.
Watching her friend's cheeks flush slightly, Beckett smiled at them before she turned her attention to her husband as he was walking over to them with Skye just behind him on her phone. "We're set?" she asked.
"Yeah, we can head up there and we're having lunch here too," Castle answered. He looked around at the others and said, "You're invited." At that point they were about to head to the elevators when someone was calling out to them and they turned before the person was speaking as they walked up to them.
"You guys made it," Mary said, smiling. "Hey grá," she said to her wife teasingly.
"Hey grá…" Skye said wryly, shaking her head before she hugged her wife for a moment. "You've finished?"
"I have," Mary said. "Have you told them?"
"No, we were going up to their room to tell them," Skye explained.
"Great, let's go," Mary said.
"You don't want to go to your room first?" Beckett asked her as the woman was wearing a business suit still.
"Oh, sorry," Mary said, going to her. She embraced her quickly and did the same with Castle saying, "I'm glad to see you guys again."
"We are seeing you," Castle said. "You haven't been helping them?"
"Now we better go up," Mary said, looking pointedly at her wife.
"Yeah, we are," Skye said, looking around for a bellboy. She found the one that had Castle and Beckett's luggage and they were going to the elevators. In one of the cars she held her wife's hand as they were going up in silence before reaching the floor the suite was on.
Walking into the living room, Castle tipped the bellman as soon as their suitcases were off the cart and locked the door behind him. "Okay, we can talk out here," he said to the others.
"You don't want to unpack?" Darnley asked.
"Can the three of you really afford the time?" Beckett said to him in response.
"Not really," Nkosi said before his husband could respond. "We're ready?"
"I am, you won't really tell me what's going on," Mary said.
"Okay," Skye said with a slight sigh. "I'm first." She took the folder she had under her arm and waited for everyone to gather around the table before she got a picture out from it. "This is the beginning of the two cases," she said, setting it on the table. "Potomac Airways," she told her wife and the writers as they were looking at the site of an airplane crash.
"That the new one that started here in DC isn't it?" Castle asked.
"It is," Nkosi said. "They were on approach to Dulles from a flight out of Bangkok when they banked to the right and stalled before they reached 1L."
"Is it a forest?" Beckett asked, studying the scenery.
"It's trees up until Vortac Road there," Skye said.
"It's a road that's next to one of the runways," Nkosi explained.
"We came here on Friday, shortly after the crash," Skye then said. "And we've been investigating though we've been working on reconstructing the plane since the eyewitnesses have us worried about the plane's flaps."
"We're also searching the forest," Nkosi told them. "But now we have the plane set up again and we have the black boxes though those will take some time to get the data from."
"And with that, this is where Patrick comes in," Skye said, nodding to the detective as she was handing him the folder.
"This is Rodriguez Villa," Darnley said, putting a picture down on the table of a man surrounded by metal pieces, obviously shot in the back. "He was cleaning up the work room at the alloy plant a mile from the border of Dulles' property on Friday night," he was explaining. "Security footage has him walking down the aisle where he was putting away airplane parts the company makes for 777s before he fell."
"Nothing of the shooter inside?" Beckett asked.
Shaking his head, Darnley took another picture out and showed it to them saying, "This is the likely perch where the killer was," the picture of the roof where there were open windows. "We can't determine which of these they used but from the angle it's one of these two," he said, pointing them out.
"Okay… but how're your cases connected?" Beckett asked, sounding doubtful. "To me it just sounds like coincidence. Have you looked into Mr. Villa himself?"
"We have, he was thirty-five, unmarried and single at the moment. All his family are in Sicily," Darnley replied.
"Do you two know him?" Beckett asked.
"No," Nkosi said, Skye shaking her head at the same time.
"He was looking into being a flight attendant, but he was trying to raise more money first according to his friends," Darnley said. "We have nothing there at work though, everyone said he was serious and very nice to everyone there."
"Then the connection?" Castle asked.
"This," Nkosi said as Skye was taking out one last picture for them.
"That's a… slat?" Beckett said slowly as she was trying to recall the name.
"Trailing-edge flap," Nkosi said. "It should not have been found nearly half a mile from where the plane landed."
"Unless it's the reason," Skye said.
"So your case is solved?" Castle said.
"We have to prove it," Skye told them. "But if that's the case then there's a problem, either the flap itself was faulty or there's sabotage."
"And it's where Villa comes in," Darnley said.
"I know why you asked us here," Beckett said, smiling at her friend as he seemed uncertain and Skye and Nkosi looked at the detective pointedly. "You're not sure at all about your theory."
"I'm s-" Darnley began.
"But we don't mind helping you," Beckett said as she raised her hand to get him to stop.
"Oh good," Darnley breathed out in relief. "I was worried because we have nothing to prove it to our superiors." He then said hesitantly, "We wanted to get this all taken care of so we wouldn't have to call in the FBI."
"That was your request?" Beckett said, looking at Skye.
"You can't really blame me," the investigator said with a shrug.
"No, not really," Beckett replied with a smile.
"When did you find the flap?" Castle asked.
"Yesterday, it's why we called you," Skye answered. She was about to speak when she paused and then said, "It's not much but…"
"You haven't had anything with your case?" Beckett asked her friend.
"Not really," Darnley said. "The building is… basically on its own, so the person climbed up to it at the security blind spot."
"A ladder up to it?" Mary asked.
"Yes," Darnley said.
"There aren't any cameras on it?" Beckett asked in surprise.
"There are, but they're rotating," Darnley replied. "Sumner thinks there might be two killers."
"It could be," Beckett mused. "This isn't the first time a sniper has worked with a partner."
"Yeah, we told our supervisor," Darnley said with a sigh. "She was so happy about that," he said in exaggerated joy. He shook his head and said, "I just don't want this to be that case all over again." He was about to speak before Mary was raising her hand slightly and he looked at her questioningly before she spoke while the others turned to her.
"What about the flight?" Mary asked.
"The passengers?" Skye asked her. When her wife nodded, she said, "We've looked, nobody really stood out." She was distracted then by her phone ringing and she answered it, putting it on speaker. "Jenson, what'd you get?" she asked the man as she'd seen it was his number.
"We've finished reconstruction of the right wing, we're not missing the flap, it's the spoiler," the man replied.
"What?" Nkosi said. "And is everything for the hardware there?"
"We're missing a few things," Jenson replied.
"Are there pieces you can't put back?" Skye asked with a frown.
"A few things but I've looked through it, there's no bolts and a section of hydraulic line to the spoilers," Jenson said.
"We still remember where the flap and items from the right wing were found right?" Nkosi asked him. When the investigator answered in the affirmative, he looked at Skye and said, "It'll need to be searched again."
"It will," Skye said with a sigh. "Jenson."
"I heard, how many of us?" the man asked.
"I'm thinking three of you," Skye said. "And try and find a metal detector or two, I know how the ground was over there."
"Call one of us if you find anything at all from the wing," Nkosi said. He breathed out and then said, "So we are… slightly stuck."
"You need all of that?" Beckett asked.
"That and the data from the boxes," Skye said with a brief nod. She then looked over at the bag she'd brought with them and said, "That's my e-mail."
"Wait," Castle said, "Are you two working together as IICs?"
"We are," Skye said. "Though why did you ask me here? You know you could have handled it," she said.
Shaking his head Nkosi said, "It wasn't me."
"The Chairman?" Skye asked with a frown. When Nkosi nodded she frowned and said, "You're kidding me. Has he been racist towards you?"
"No, just the way I talked," Nkosi said.
"I told him it was racist," Darnley said.
"I'll call the vice president," Skye said.
"You'd get me fired," Nkosi said in a slight panic.
Studying him Skye said, "If he continues…"
"I'll file a complaint, don't worry," Nkosi assured her. "And really, the talking thing doesn't bother me that much."
"As long as it doesn't," Skye said with a sigh. She then gave Nkosi her tablet and said, "They have the footage ready."
"Footage?" Mary asked.
"Yeah, a security camera by 30R which is near where the plane went down," Skye explained as Nkosi was watching the clip. "It was less than exemplary in quality, so we sent it to a company that worked on it and they finally have it ready for us."
"I see the inboard spoiler is missing," Nkosi said after he and Skye had watched it together the second time.
"Could we see that?" Beckett asked.
"Yeah, but it isn't pretty," Skye said.
"Were there fatalities?" Castle asked. When the investigator didn't answer, and Mary wrapped an arm around her waist, he turned to his wife before looking back at Skye and saying, "I'm sorry."
Shaking her head, the investigator replied, "Don't be, it's not your fault."
"It wasn't all the…" Beckett started to say before she trailed off.
"There were two-hundred and sixty on the flight," Skye said, shaking her head at her wife who was trying to stop her. "Ninety-seven didn't make it, they were in the front of the plane."
"It angled down first," Nkosi said seriously. "You'll see."
"If you want, I'll warn you it's not edited," Skye told them. "Only cleaned up."
"If it helps the case," Beckett said before she and Castle were looking at the screen of the tablet. She had looked at Mary questioningly, but the doctor had shaken her head and she watched with her husband. As Nkosi had said, the front of the plane angled down after it banked, and she closed her eyes at the ball of fire after it struck the ground. "The… I see why you need to find the entire wing," she said in a whisper before her husband was asking the investigators about the bolts.
"Would you be able to tell if someone tampered with it?" Castle asked.
"We're hoping," Skye said. "Or if the alloy material is faulty in the flap itself. We're not sure yet if it's sabotage or material failure." She took back her tablet and said, "Well… we should head back and-"
"Do you have time for lunch?" Mary interrupted her.
Smiling slightly Skye looked at Nkosi and said, "We should, we were supposed to take our break when they got here."
"I hate to ask this but coming here with us didn't count as a break?" Castle asked her.
"No, we're still working," Nkosi said. "But I could use something to eat," he added before he was turning to his husband.
"I can manage to stay for that… or go for that, what're we doing?" Darnley asked the others as he was getting his phone out of his jacket pocket.
"We'll eat in," Castle said firmly. "Our treat."
"You… there's no sense in arguing is there?" Skye asked.
"Not really," Castle said.
"Then you'll let us treat you to dinner," Darnley said. He smiled when the writer looked at him and said, "Really, we feel bad pulling you from your kids." He then looked at Skye and Mary telling them, "We're paying."
"No you're not," the investigator said. "It wasn't you that called us in."
"Still," Nkosi said. "Just for tonight."
"Alright," Beckett said with a sigh. "Let's look at the menu because I get the feeling we don't have much time to linger." While her husband was getting the in-room dining menu she went to her friend and said, "There isn't anything else you can tell us?"
"And show you?" Darnley asked. When she nodded, he said, "No, but I have related everything we have. A shot… never mind."
"Don't worry," Beckett said, taking his wrist and squeezing it tightly. "You know I've worked on cases with snipers since I was shot, I'll be alright."
Studying her, Darnley realized she was serious and then told her, "There wasn't much we could get, they were likely completely covered, and the owners of the company don't think there was anything stolen."
"They don't think?" Castle asked as Skye and Mary were looking at the menu.
"They have to take inventory which they couldn't start until today," Darnley replied.
"Is there anything top secret there?" Castle asked. "CIA? FBI?"
"No, but they do make parts for military planes," Darnley said. "But it's not really something that's deemed classified, though there is security I'll remind you." He saw Beckett was about to speak before he told her, "They do have security guards, but the complex is large and two smaller buildings, they were in other areas at the time of the shooting."
"It makes a partner more likely," Castle said.
"What about the guards themselves?" Beckett asked.
"We checked them first thing," Darnley assured her. "Since they were the only ones there."
"They didn't hear anything?" Castle asked.
