Cooties?

Chapter 3: The Questions and Answers Part 1

Ed was walking through the Cul De Sac.

Alone.

After he and Eddy washed off the girl's lipstick from their faces, Eddy decided that he needed his personal time and locked himself in his room.

Leaving Ed alone with his thoughts...for a change.

Ed didn't usually think about things but right now, he didn't know what to do now. Maybe he could play with Rolf's chickens, since he really likes chickens or go home and read some comic books.

But Ed didn't feel like it.

He had a lot on his mind, which is a first for the simple minded boy. Especially since Double D usually did all the thinking for the Eds. Double D was always good at thinking, while Eddy just came up with the plans and Ed just did as he was told. That was his lot in life and he never complained about it before...except the time when he wanted to do a scam to do the Evil Tim curse but that is another story.

No, Ed was thinking something that would give him a headache on most days but there was something he just didn't understand about.

Double D is his best friend and he has always been so smart, neat and likes clean and healthy stuff...So, why did Double D want to date Marie Kanker all of a sudden?

Before he did that experiment, he always acted like he was scared of Marie but now all he wanted to do was spend time with with her, go on dates and kiss her.

It is so weird and confusing.

Why did Double D want to kiss Marie now? What had changed?

Ed did not know. Either kissing didn't give you cooties, they weren't real or not as bad as he thought. Ed didn't know what cooties were but he always thought they were bad for you, so why is Edd not worried about them?

He hated germs!

Why would he not run away from the scary germs that were cooties? Especially since he knew his friends goes to great lengths to avoid germs or to protect himself from them.

Could cooties not hurt Double D now? Did he get a shot or something, or did he find some way to protect himself from them? Does that mean that there was a way for Ed to protect himself from them too?

Ed sat down on his thinking stump at the playground, he didn't come here often but when he did it was because he really needed to think about something, so he was almost never here.

He never really has done much thinking before but right now, Ed really needed to think about his problem.

"Double D likes to kiss Marie...but he used to think Marie was scary before he did his science experiment with her...now he LIKES kissing her...but why?..."Ed managed to think in his questionable grey mater.

It made his head hurt by thinking so hard but he just doesn't get it.

Why did Double D like to kiss Marie now? Why wasn't he scared of her and her cooties anymore? What were things different? Why was he no longer afraid of her kisses? Was that what cooties did? Did they make you unafraid of someone and want to be around them all of the time?

Does this mean that if he kisses Marie, would she stop being scary to him?

No, he shouldn't kiss Marie since he knew that Edd likes her and while he didn't know much, he knew that his best friend wouldn't be happy if he kisses the girl he likes.

Besides, Marie wasn't always THAT scary to him since she rarely ever does anything to him unless she was with her sisters, the rest of the time, she just teases him but nothing else. Lee was scary but not THAT scary since she mostly only ever chases Eddy and just teases him unless she is with her sisters. No, only one Kanker girl actually scared him.

That was May. She is the scary one.

She is always chasing after him, trying to touch him, kiss him and make him spend time with her, just like how her sisters did to his pals, as well as make Ed experience that weird feeling that makes his tummy all wiggly and crawly inside.

May is trouble.

She is really scary, weird, smells funny and is always giving him kisses that make him feel funny.

A funny that he knows is bad...or, it was?

Honestly, he is not sure anymore. He was always certain that Kankers were bad but Double D suddenly likes Marie and is okay with kissing her and says that she is not bad.

Does that mean that it is okay to kiss the Kankers now or something? Was that something he wanted? Did he WANT to kiss her? Would that make her cooties go away and if he DOES kiss her, will he turn out like his friend?

Ed did not know.

This whole thing was really scary and confusing. He wanted to stop thinking about this and go back to blissfully being ignorant and enjoying the simple pleasures of reading comic books, eating gravy and watching monster movies but he can't stop thinking about this.

He just can't and he is not sure why! Ed kept thinking as hard as he possible could...which he still wasn't used to, apparently.

"Ouch! My brain hurts!..."Ed hissed, not used to this much thinking.

He didn't know what is going on but he knew he needed to find someone to help him with his really confusing problem.

Where was Double D when you need him?

"Double D..."Ed whispered as for once, something was clear to him.

He is lost and confused. He is not kidding He really does need his smart friend to explain everything and make things better

Thankfully, he knew just where to find him.

Near the Park

It was late in the afternoon and the park was near deserted at this time, the closest people there were currently in a park car, just a few feet from it.

They were Edd and Marie, who were currently making out in the back seat of his dad's car. Usually, Edd is very timid and is the last person one would expect to pull such an act, but ever since he got involved with Marie, his timidness gradually faded and began to become more assertive, especially with a certain blue haired beauty who was loving every minute of it, though she did have to do some...coaxing before he got into it.

And boy, was he into it now.

"Ooh, Muffin...who knew that you are such a wild card...I like it..."Marie giggled as she snuggled closer into his chest.

"Only for you, my love..."Edd said as he kissed her again.

Marie smiled from her place, on top of Edd in the backseat.

The two were deep kissing now and while Edd made a mental note of thoroughly sanitizing the car before returning it to his father, he was truly enjoying himself here. For once in his life cleanliness would come later, since right now, all he wanted to do was kiss his darling love, Marie Kanker.

MUAH!~

After the separated for a breath, Marie giggled before peppering his face with her kisses.

"You're getting better, Edd. I like it..."Marie said, in between kisses, while Edd smiled goofily..

"I am aware..."He said as he began kissing her again.

It was funny, just last year, he was sure that he would never like Marie and now look at him. Now he couldn't imagine anywhere he'd rather be.

Love truly is a strange phenomena, wasn't it?

Anyway, the two continued kissing each other deeply for a few seconds, before parting.

MUAH!~

"Oh, Oven Mitt~..."Marie giggled in between her kisses.

"Oh, Turtle Dove~..."Edd said in a romantic tone as he was now on top of her and kissing up and down her arm as he made his way up her shoulder, her neck and soon her face, with the intention of reaching her lips.

However, before they could continue, Edd noticed someone looking at them with wide eyes, staring into the window of the car. Someone they both knew personally.

"Ed?..." Edd asked and Marie's eyes open upon hearing that.

"Ed?..."Marie questioned as she looked out the window and saw him.

The tallest and most dull witted of the Ed's is there, just outside the car, looking like he has just seen a ghost.

"What's he doing here?.."Marie asked, not out of anger, just confusion.

"I am not sure..."Her boyfriend said, just as confused.

This is weird, even by Ed's standards. And Ed was pretty weird to start with.

What was Ed doing here and looking so visibly distressed?

Edd raised a brow in concern.

"I'll see what he wants..." The smart boy said, opening the door..."I promise to return shortly..."He said.

"Hurry back, Double D..."Marie said..."I wanna kiss some more..."She said with longing and temptation, making it clear that she wants to continue with their make out session

So did he...

"Of course, Turtle Dove..."He said as he got out.

However, he saw that Ed was no longer by the car door.

"Ed?..." Edd asked..."Ed?..."He called again.

"Over here..."His friend called.

Edd looked for Ed, who was now the trunk of the car, looking lost and confused.

"Ed, is everything all right?... Edd asked, sitting down besides him.

"I've been thinking..." Ed said, surprising his pal.

"Really?..."Edd questioned with a raised brow.

Usually, Ed isn't much of a deep thinker, so this is a first. This must be more serious then Edd had first surmised, if Ed had been giving whatever it was thought.

"About what?..." Edd asked, wondering what this is all about.

"Kankers..."He said.

"Kankers?..."Edd questioned and Ed nodded.

Edd quickly pulled out a cloth that he carries around and placed it on the back of his dad's trunk before sitting on it. Hey, just because he loosen up a bit, doesn't mean that old habits go away.

Anyway, Double D glanced at his friend, who still looking lost and confused.

"What's wrong?..."Edd asked.

"I don't know..."Ed said.

Edd frowned, he wanted to help but he couldn't without knowing what was wrong.

He needed facts. So he urged Ed to continue and the big lug did so, with a blunt statement.

"You used to think Marie was scary..."He stated.

It wasn't a question, it was just a fact. Like the sky was blue and jaw breakers tasted good. The Ed's thought Kankers were scary...or so he thought.

He didn't know anymore. Meanwhile, Edd was surprised by the statement, but nodded. It was a simple fact that can't be denied.

"That is true. I did use to think Marie was terrifying..."He admitted.

There is no going around it. As much as he loves his turtle dove now, he can't deny that there was once a time that she scared the living daylights out of him and now, he founds everything he used to fear, to be endearing.

It's almost amusing, when you thought about it. Ed, however, was not amused. He still looked worried.

"But now you like her and kiss her all of the time..."Ed said.

"Well, a gentleman doesn't kiss and tell..."Edd said, blushing deeply.

"You didn't tell, I saw you guys do it and you do it a lot.."Ed said in a simple tone.

Edd blushed deeper and cleared his throat, wanting to change the subject.

"Uh, yes..well..."He paused, still feeling awkward.

"Why aren't you scared?..." Ed asked.

Edd was still blushing but was finally coherent enough to answer.

"I suppose...we got used to it..."Edd said, clearing his throat as he waited for his blush to die down.

"Do you like it?..."Ed asked.

Despite how flustered he felt right now and seeing the distress in Ed's eyes, Edd realized that this was more serious then he originally hypothesized and saw that his friend had a desire for an honest answer.

He had no choice, it seems, so with honesty, he spoke again.

"Yes, I have come to love Marie very much and yes, I do enjoy kissing her..."Edd said without hesitation.

Sure, despite their "love hate" relationship in the past, he truly has come to adore the blue haired girl who found her way into his heart.

He hardly could imagine life without his turtle dove anymore.

Ironic, but he truly has come to love her.

"Why do you ask? How does Marie correlate to your issue?.." Edd said, clearing his throat as he waited for his blush to die down.

Ed looked to his shoes and sighed.

"I think...I think I have a problem..."Ed finally confessed to his best friend, who may be his only hope now.

Oh boy
