Chapter 5: The Cure
Ed had just left the park, still thinking about what his best friends told him.
About how the boy had changed and how they and girls act around each other. About how puberty has made him immune to cooties...
And about how the weird feeling is him liking May. The tall Ed boy was still surprised and unsure about that.
Is it really possible?
He has spent so long convinced that he was afraid of her but Double D thinks he isn't scared of her for that reason.
"Do I really like May the way Double D likes Marie?..."Ed thought.
Once again, he did something he is not used to.
Thinking.
He thought back to that conversation, and about May and the nature of their relationship.
"Does Ed not fear May like Ed thought he does?..." Ed asked himself in third person.
He is not sure. He never really put thought into that. In fact, he wasn't sure about a lot of things now.
What he is sure is that he won't feel at peace until he finally figure out these feelings. Until he knows what they mean and if he really, truly does have feelings for May Kanker or not.
He only knew one way to answer that. Something Eddy would not approve but he is desperate. Ed had to know, even if it meant going behind the de facto leader's back.
"Eddy's not gonna be happy with me but I have to know for sure..." Ed thought to himself.
He knew that Edd would encourage him, Eddy would call him an idiot, but he had to try. He had to make himself try. The more he thought about it, the more he knew that there is just one to get to the bottom of his issues with May
But first he has to find her.
Something he's never actually done before, since he usually spent a lot of time trying to keep away from Kankers.
He didn't exactly know where she hangs out, only where she lives. Since he knew that Marie was still with Double D, and Eddy is no doubt still recovering from his encounter with Lee Kanker, it might be the one place he can find her.
He has to go to the trailer park... alone.
Soon, he left to go find the wild and crazy Kanker girl who he may or may not like more than he originally thought.
And hope he's right.
"May..."Ed thought as he began to search for her.
Elsewhere
At the trailer park
May Kanker was not having a good time right now.
Sure, she got to kiss her boyfriend just a few hours ago and expressed her love but he ran off.
Again!
It was something that she should be used to but doesn't want to be.
Despite trying to be chipper, the blonde girl felt lonely. Marie is out on a date with Double D and Lee was out looking for Eddie again, forcing the blonde to spend the night alone watching cheesy B-movies.
"Oh, Big Ed..." She thought sadly.
Despite what some people might think, she really does love Ed. She always has.
He is such a gentle sweetie. He is so tall, strong, sweet and cute too. He was everything she wanted and she really did want him to like her back. Ever since she first laid eyes on him, she knew that she was in love with him and wanted to be with him forever and ever. She wanted to go out with him, kiss him, get his love and someday get married and have a family together.
She wanted that more than anything in the world but it looks one-sided to her now.
May sighed.
"At least, Marie isn't having a bad night..." She said to herself in disappointment.
As happy as she is for her sister snagging a man, May felt jealous that she got Edd, while still being avoided by Ed. She didn't want to say it, but she was feeling bitter about it.
I mean, technically speaking, May has done the same to Ed that Marie does to Edd, and yet somehow, her sister managed to get him to fall for her and she is still Ed-less, so to speak.
Technically, so is Lee, but she'd slug them for saying it out loud. Her sisters were just like that.
Anyway, she just didn't understand why Ed still doesn't want her.
Sure, she used to tease him a lot and follow him around but she did everything her mom said about trying to get a man (and making sure that he didn't run away from you too).
She tried to make herself pretty with makeup, make her interest clear and take the initiative but nothing. No matter what she did, her big Ed didn't seem to like her and it broke her heart each time.
And it hurt.
Now, she's here alone and the blonde girl wallowed in a pit of loneliness. He didn't want anything to do with her.
Nothing.
Sure, maybe she does still tease him and follow him around but she couldn't help it. She can't help it. She still loves him and just wants to in return.
Is that so much to ask?
Apparently, it was.
He still didn't want her. He still kept trying to run away from her, no matter how many times she offered all her love to him.
It was agonizing, to say the least.
Every time big Ed rejected her, it felt like he punched her in the heart. In the past, she and her sisters didn't care too much when their Eds ran off, they just laughed it off. But now they are older and it was getting old and she is starting to think that maybe their aggressive approach wasn't the right choice.
"Oh Ed..."May thought sadly.
Since there was no one around, she was free to say something that has been on her mind.
For a while now, to be honest.
"It ain't stinkin' fair! I actually WANT Big Ed to like me, I always did!..." She said to herself.
Marie used to harass Edd without really caring how traumatizing she was, now she's matured and in a relationship with him.
Here she was, sitting alone in their mobile home while their mother was somewhere else, she didn't remember nor care at the moment. Their mother never really helped with their romance issues, given her own relationships. When you have three ex-husbands, you know you're not much help.
May, still sulking, began to whimper a little.
She needed SOMETHING to feel joy. Without a boyfriend, she needed something else to fill her hole inside.
"I need something sweet. I wonder if we still have rocky road..." May said to herself as she went to the kitchen and grabbed a whole tub of ice cream with her, not caring for weight gain.
She wanted some comfort food. It wasn't enough right now, even after 10 minutes. The empty tub of ice cream was discarded on the floor but she hardly felt any better.
No, she was still sad and with a belly full of ice cream.
The lonely blonde girl sighed sadly, feeling no better right now. She needed to get out of the trailer. She needed to be alone right now.
"I gotta get out of here..."May thought as she stepped out of the trailer to get some fresh air and think.
She left before Lee or her mother came back and possibly nag her to do something. She knew Marie would still be gone for a few more hours enjoying having a boyfriend who doesn't run away her.
"It ain't fair!..." She muttered to herself.
If he just gave her a chance...she just knew that he'd understand that they were perfect for each other. Assuming she'd control herself but it was so hard around Big Ed.
Right now, she didn't think she'd get the chance. So she just sulked and that was part of the problem as her brain ran on auto. As the blonde girl moped over her lack of love, the object of her desire was closer than she thought.
Much closer.
With Ed
Ed had arrived to the trailer park, and saw one trailer in particular. He then spotted who he was looking for.
"There she is..."Ed thought, seeing her walk out of her trailer and looking disappointed about something.
He felt bad for her now that he got a good look at her being alone and sad.
"She's... sad?..." He thought.
Why is she so sad? And why did that make Ed sad too?
He followed after her. He saw her stop by a tree and sigh loudly before continuing. May put her knees up against her chest, looking down at her feet. She felt tears beginning to form in her eyes.
"Big Ed hates me!..." She said to herself. " No matter what I do, he still hates me..."She whispered to herself.
She hasn't seen him yet but he heard what she just said. He also knew that she is wrong.
"I don't hate you..." Ed thought.
He might be scared of her but he never hated her and he knew he didn't hate her now. Even if part of him is still a little scared. He could turn back and forget about this whole thing but he did not want to.
He had to get this over with. He had to go and confront May and settle things once and for all.
Still, he felt nervous.
After all, this is the same girl who once broke into his home before breakfast just for a kiss and once made him marry her in that old spooky house of nightmares when he was younger.
Still, he took a breath and walked over to her. She went to a nearby old tree and sat down, looking at her feet.
Ed wondered what she is thinking.
This is what she was thinking.
"Could it be that...I don't deserve love?!..."May thought as she felt her heart break more.
She still did not notice how close he was yet. Ed, on the other hand, noticed how she looked now.
It was weird but when she wasn't chasing after him, demanding kisses, she actually looked...looked...
"She's... not ugly..."He thought as May was still was wary..
She still did not notice him yet.
Ed knew that it was now or never. So, gathering all of his courage, he walked to her.
She hasn't seen him approach until he stopped and rose his arm.
"I belch you good day, my lady..."Ed said, finally getting May's attention.
May was stunned for a moment, before hearts formed in her eyes and her own heart race.
"IT'S MY BOYFRIEND!..."The blonde girl shouted in glee, her mood doing a complete 180.
Ed heard this and smiled nervously.
"Be strong like the Cyclops..."He thought as May quickly ran to him and gave him a rib crushing hug.
"A big hug for my honey..."May said as she hugged him tighter.
Unknown to her, Ed felt the feeling from earlier again stir during the hug. Something nice and it made him think differently from how he acted before.
"This doesn't feel bad now that I think about it..."He thought.
He wasn't as afraid or uncomfortable as he used to be.
Soon enough, May went from hugging to trying to kiss him again. The blonde grabbed him tight and nuzzled into his chest. Even Ed knew what will happen now unless he said something.
"Please accept this thank you for visiting me..."May said as she puckered up.
Ed knew how she would act if she saw him but he really has to talk to her.
He has to!
He did so before her lips met his.
"MAY!..."Ed shouted, getting her attention and making her stop.
"Yes, Big Ed?..." She asked.
Even Ed knew that it's now or never. So, he spoke his mind.
"Uh...you look very pretty today..."Ed said.
May heard this, she looked surprised and blushed.
"Oh... Big Ed..."May said as she giggled.
"Yes, May?..." Ed went.
Before she responded, May had an idea and felt upset.
"You and your friends aren't trying that reverse psychology junk again, are you?!..."May shouted.
Ed shook his head.
"Not today!..." He responded.
Hearing that calmed her down.
"Okey-dokey then!..." The blonde said.
Now that she has calmed herself down to at least control her hormones to a degree, she got curious.
What is this about?
WHY was he here?
Usually, an Ed doesn't visit a Kanker, with the exception of Double D since he went steady with Marie but that's different.
Sure, Ed has a tendency to get confused and wander off, but for as long as she has known him, he has tried to AVOID coming to the trailer park and usually is dragged here...by her or her sisters.
But they didn't drag him here today, so why is he here?
Not that she is complaining but she just wants to know.
"Maybe he has finally realizes how much he loves me and has come to confess his feelings..."May thought hopefully.
Before deflating as even she knew how unlikely that is, given their history.
Unknown to her, she wasn't actually that far off, given what Ed was thinking as he looked at the Kanker girl.
He felt that strange feeling stirring again.
The one that made his tummy all wiggly and crawly, his face warm and he even felt himself starting to sweat, his hands were even shaking a bit and he felt that thumpty-thump thingy in his chest again.
"What's happening to me?..."Ed thought as he felt funny again.
He didn't know what to do with these feelings. There has to be an answer to his questions.
Double D said he had to follow his heart, whatever that meant. Ed's never been good with his head anyway. All he did know is that he still feels strange when he looked at the blonde Kanker girl.
But he liked it.
May, on the other hand, was confused by his silence.
"Ed?..."She questioned but to her surprise, he didn't run away.
She's not complaining but WHY isn't he running away?
Again, not complaining but this is weird, even for Ed.
To her surprise, Ed suddenly cupped her face and stared at her, looking deep into her eyes.
"What do I do?..."Ed thought as he tried to get a more detailed look at her
He looked closer at her and blinked. It was strange, but she looked a little different. He looked at her long blonde hair that was flowing freely, her freckles that were actually kind of cute, her bucktoothed smile that always widen when he is around and most of all, her big hazel eyes.
Big hazel eyes that were looking at him in a nice, enamored way.
It was weird but it was like he was looking at her WITHOUT fear for the first time.
No fear at all.
Meanwhile, May was silent as Ed continued to look into her eyes and she got to look into his big, turquoise ones. She was happy that Ed hasn't run away but was confused by all his staring.
Just what is he staring at?
"Do I have something on my face?..."May asked, confused and self-conscious.
Hearing this snapped Ed out of whatever trance he was in and he shook his head.
"Uh, no...I...I..."Ed found himself stammering now.
May was confused and getting a little impatient, due to her Kanker temper.
"Well, spit it out!..."May ordered.
Ed, being Ed, began spitting something to the ground, it was his gum but May looked annoyed.
"Not your gum!..."May said, impatiently as she put her hands on her hips.
"Oh..." Ed said sheepishly.
May raised a brow at this and was confused.
This is weird. Even for Ed.
"Just what are you doing here, Ed?..."She demanded.
Ed didn't know what to say. He actually didn't think that far ahead. He just realized that he had to talk to her about these weird feelings that he has been having.
It wasn't until now that he did not know HOW to talk about said feelings. He just stood and stared, looking into her pretty eyes.
Usually, he has no trouble saying the first thing that pops into his head but right now, he felt pretty tongue tied. He doesn't know how to tell her that he has funny feelings inside and he doesn't know what they mean.
May was getting more and more annoyed but also confused. Still, she was happy he was here and felt her hormones acting up. The same hormones that always made her want to kiss him and/or tease him.
Right now, she felt like teasing him a bit, maybe that can make him fess up to why the heck he is here right now. The blonde girl crossed her arms and sent him a smug look.
"So, you finally realize that you love me and can't live without me?..."May teased.
She then saw the big Ed boy blush deeply and look away. Even May realized now that teasing and flirting might not help now. He looked really confused and shaken up right now.
It actually concerned May right now.
"Hey, Ed. I...I was just teasing...Seriously, what's wrong?..."May asked.
Contrary what most people would say, she does care about Ed and his feelings. She just wanted him to RETURN her feelings too and being a Kanker, she is a passionate, impulsive person and she has trouble understanding boundaries, since she IS a Kanker but she does love and care about Ed.
So, what's the problem here?
Is he sick or something?
She hopes not.
Unknown to her, what she said got Ed to think again.
"Do...do I love her?..."He thought.
He just came here to see if he liked her or not, but love?!
Did Ed love May? Did Ed even know what love was?
He didn't know.
I mean, he knew that his mom and dad love each other. He also knew that Edd and Marie love each other now too but does HE love MAY KANKER?!
He...he is not sure.
He looked at her again and those feelings return, maybe even worse now.
He is still confused but he just had to know the truth.
Ed just had to know.
"May...I...I...don't want to be scared of you anymore..."Ed started, looking down.
"Huh?..."May went as she raised a brow but decided to let him continue speaking.
Ed took a deep breath and just tried to spit it out. His words, not his gum this time.
"Big Ed? What is it?..." May asked,
Ed was quiet. After a long while, he was uncharacteristically quiet.
He's never spent this long without saying anything. After a long time of saying nothing, he looked up to see May's face and opened his mouth.
"I...I have been feeling weird for a long time now. I needed to find you..to talk to you..."Ed began, still looking at her.
May just stared in confusion.
"About what?..."May asked while the tall boy continued.
"I'm not good with my words...I'm not smooth like Eddy and I'm not smart like Double D but I know that whenever I'm around you, I have this funny feeling in my chest and I want to know what it means..."Ed finally confessed.
May was stunned.
"R-Really?..."She asked in a hopeful tone.
Ed nodded.
May gasped in delighted shock.
Could this be real?
Did Ed actually say that?
May pinched herself and realized that she is awake.
"Oh my gosh! This isn't a dream. Which means...Big Ed is...is..."May felt her heart hammer in her chest now.
Ed, on the other hand, felt a little better to finally get that off of his chest.
Still, he didn't have his answer yet.
Double D told him that he did an experiment with Marie and it helped him truly realize that he did return her feelings. An experiment which involved...something that they have already done with their respective Kankers...
But it was always one sided until Double D made his move.
"Wait..."Ed thought as he paused as something unusual happened to him, that it made him want to pull up some dirt and call it a light bulb.
He had an idea. He knew what he had to do.
What surprised him was that a part of him WANTED to do it, and he might even NEED to do it.
"I have to kiss her..."He thought.
He just to see what it was like to kiss her, rather than be kissed by her.
He had to know for sure.
Ed blushed as he faced the girl he has strange feelings for. Remembering what Edd told him about consent, that he should always ask before kissing someone.
"May?..."He started.
"Yes Ed?..."May asked, hopefully.
What did he want? She was silent as the Big Ed boy kept looking at her and blushing.
Ed was blushing and feeling bashful right now. He had a good feeling that she'd say yes, but this is the first time he has ever done something like this and he didn't know how to do it.
As his face got redder and he felt the butterflies in his tummy again, the tallest Ed boy finally made his request to the cute and crazy Kanker girl.
"Can we kiss?..."Ed asked, shocking May.
There, he said it.
He actually asked for a KISS from May Kanker and it wasn't for some ploy of reverse-psychology.
No, he meant it.
Silence befell them and neither moved from that spot. May looked genuinely shock by what he just said.
"Did...did Ed just..."May couldn't even finish that thought.
Eventually, she managed to find her voice and spoke again.
"Ed...did you just...did you just ASK me to kiss you?!..."May said in amazement.
Ed blushed and nodded.
"Uh-huh. I think I do like you May...but...I wanna be sure...so, can we?..."He asked again to the girl who made him feel so many strange and wonderful things.
May's smile grew wide and eagerly ran to him again, embracing him tightly again and looking so happy now.
"YES, WE CAN!..."May said, making it clear that she wants to kiss him too.
Ed's arms were now around her, trying to hold her and hugged her back. He was still amazed that she said yes. Granted, it was predictable but it made him feel happy for a reason he can't explain yet.
May eventually pulled away and sent him an amorous look.
"I can't believe this is happening..." May thought as she felt her heart race.
If this was a dream, then her sisters better not wake her up. Not while her boyfriend was confessing to her. Not while her dream seems to be coming true.
"So, you really DID come because you LOVE me!..."May said, looking overjoyed now.
Ed blushed more and looked at his shoes.
"I...I don't know for sure...but I do know that I wanna kiss you..."Ed repeated.
May giggled in excitement and anticipation. Mostly excitement since she'd take what she can get. Plus, this might be her chance to finally make him fall for her.
She had to make this count.
"Just let me get ready, Big Ed..."May said with a wink as she pulled out her lipstick and added a fresh coat.
Ed just stood there, feeling strange again as he watched her do this.
This strange feeling felt like how he usually feels before a monster movie marathon or just before eating butter toast and gravy together.
Was it excitement?
Was he excited for the chance to kiss May?
"Oh boy..."Ed thought as for once, he just watched May apply her lipstick and waited for it, rather than flee at the sight of it.
Wow, things really have changed.
Soon May was done applying her lipstick and she looked at him, her lips now red and an alluring look on her face. Ed actually felt his heart skipping a beat. A part of him still felt nervous but the rest of him felt that strange feeling, and excitement even more.
He blushed deeply but understood what was happening and realized that he was about to kiss a girl, so he tried to think on exactly WHAT he has to do.
He puckered his lips and imitated what May usually did before kissing him.
May saw this and almost felt ready to cry tears of joy but not yet. Now, she has to kiss him and this time, kiss him in a way that makes him realize that he loves her the way that she has always loved him.
"He's really gonna kiss me!..."May thought as she watched Ed leaned in closer, just like she did.
If this is a dream, she didn't ever want to wake up. At least until AFTER the smoochy-time.
Ed leaned closer and closer, his lips nearing hers until finally, he sealed the deal.
When their lips met, both just stood there. There eyes were closed and they just stood there. After a few moments of blissful lip-locking, May leaned into Ed, deepening the kiss in the process. The boy whom she loves felt it, he flinched for a moment, before he slowly melted into the kiss.
Like butter on toast.
"May..."Ed thought as he continued to kiss her.
The Kanker girl, on the other hand, was loving every second of this.
"Mmmmm..." May let out as she wrapped her arms around his neck and her foot popped, a sign of how much she loves this.
The sound made something inside Ed awaken as he found himself pushing himself again her, deepening the kiss.
May's eyes widen before she melted once more.
Ed was melting too.
"Mm..."He let out, during the kiss.
The kissing continued as Ed kept feeling the strange feelings, stronger than ever.
Unknown to the two, they had an audience
Meanwhile
With Eddy
The shortest of the Ed's trio had just been looking for his friend Ed. He had to talk to him.
He has been looking for the past hour
"Where is that Lumpy?..."The short boy though impatiently.
He had to find Ed before he did something stupid.
Again!
He has already checked his house but his folks said that he wasn't home, he also checked the creek, the park, the junk yard and even Rolf's chicken coop.
There was no sign of him.
Where the heck did he go?
He heard from Rolf that he saw Ed head for this direction, so Eddy followed. He was still worried over that Kanker thing they talked about earlier. He wanted to make sure that what he said had stuck with his dim friend and that he would stay away from the Kankers as he should.
Unfortunately, Eddy soon noticed that they were heading in a familiar direction...and a bad kind of familiar.
"Oh no! Oh, Monobrow...don't tell me that you were actually dumb enough to GO THERE!..."Eddy thought, angry and mildly worried about his dim friend.
He had a bad feeling about this. He wanted to bolt to another direction but his paranoia about what his friends might be doing is keeping him from going. He wanted to see this go through until the end.
If his gut was right, then he had to get Ed out of there while she still can. Before those stupid Kanker's claim another one of his clueless friends as their victim.
He soon passed the trees, just a few feet away from the "Park N Flush" sign.
That is when he saw it.
The HORRIFYING, DISGUSTING sight of seeing his friend kissing a Kanker.
But it's not Double D and Marie
No, it was something just as bad!
Eddy's jaw dropped to the ground, his eyes were wider then pie plates and he was frozen in place as he witness his best friend Ed and he was kissing May Kanker.
"Ah!..."Eddy yelled but the couple did not notice.
The Ed boy was both horrified and enraged. Mostly because he could see that this is not a typical EdxKanker encounter where the kissing is one sided and the guy is miserable.
No, Ed looked like he was kissing her back...and ENJOYING it too!.
His draw dropped before his temper flew.
"DIDN'T HE LISTEN TO WHAT I SAID EARLIER?!..."He thought in fury as his fists were clenched and his teeth were grinding.
How could Ed be so stupid?!
"Okay, It's ED but come on! He should know better! First Sockhead, now Lumpy too?!..."Eddy thought, outraged and perturbed
He gritted his teeth in anger and refusal to accept this. Those Kanker witches were taking down his friend, one by one!
"Not if I can help it!..."He grumbled.
He was about to go over there to break them up and knock some sense into Ed, when someone walked up or rather sneaked up behind him. Eddy then felt someone's hot breath on his neck and he gulped, getting a VERY BAD feeling about this.
"Hey there, Boyfriend~..." A voice said, one Eddy didn't want to hear.
Eddy turned around and to his horror, realized who it is.
"Uh oh!..."Eddy thought in terror.
It's Lee Kanker, who grinned at him.
KANKER?!..."Eddy shouted in horror at the sight of his unwanted admirer.
The red haired girl laughed and sent him a flirty look as she moved in closer, like a vulture circling a carcass.
"Not for long, since I'm hearing wedding bells..."Lee teased as Eddy tried to move back.
He wanted to scream and start running away but Lee blocked his path each time, being way more agile. She backed him into a tree and grinned. Despite his fear, Eddy tried to be tough here and tried to stand up to her.
"What are you doing here?!..."Eddy demanded, trying to sound braver than he really is.
"I live like 15 feet away..."Lee explained before smirking at him. "Better question why are YOU here?..."She said.
Eddy glared at her, refusing to say why but he didn't have to. She the looked and saw her sister and Ed were kissing.
Lee smiled at the sight, finding it touching.
"Aw, ain't that sweet? Looks like Ed and May are having a moment..."Lee said before turning to her "boyfriend".
Eddy had a bad feeling about this. Especially when she pulled out her lipstick again.
"So, why don't we join'em, Dreamboat?..."Lee said as she started putting it on. "Or better yet, find somewhere more private..."She said suggestively.
Eddy knew where this is going and both reacted the way he ALWAYS react when confronting a Kanker.
"RUNAWAY!..."Eddy yelled in a panic as he tried to flee, not wanting to get kissed again by her.
Lee just giggled at this before sighing lovingly.
"I love it when my man plays hard..."She said before running after him, cackling madly like she usually does during their chases
Ed and May were so deep into their kissing, they never noticed any of that. They were too busy enjoying their first, mutual kiss together to notice.
"Mmmm..."Was heard for a while.
After a full 10 seconds of lip locking, this was heard...
"Muah!~..."
The two separated after and took a breath. May had a dreamy look and was flushed while Ed was in thought.
He said the first thing that came to his mind.
"Wow!..."Ed let out of his freshly kissed mouth.
His face felt hot, his lips were trembling and that feeling deep inside was still there.
Stronger than ever now and...and...
It felt good!
He felt so...so good right now.
Like with butter toast and gravy
No, better then that!
He still couldn't believe it.
He actually kissed May Kanker...and it felt good!
He wasn't the only one to think so, as May was in a daze.
"Oh, Ed..."May sighed romantically, still with that dreamy look on her face.
Ed had to admit that he liked it when she said that and it didn't sound scary to him.
Not anymore.
May, on the other hand, was ecstatic to have him kiss her willingly. She looked really lovesick right now. She also almost felt like crying tears of joy.
After years of constantly running away from her and not-so-subtle rejections, Ed finally kissed her on his own.
"This is the best day of my life..."She thought dreamily as she looked at the boy she loves.
Ed was having similar feelings, especially when he ended up looking into her hazel eyes again. He smiled at her. She looked into his turquoise eyes and smiled back.
"I think I finally know what those feelings mean, Double D..."The tall boy thought as he kept looking into her eyes, feeling those emotions stirring again.
He then saw May giving him that face again, the one she always gives him after kissing him. The exact same one where her face is red, she had the biggest smile on her face and the dreamiest look in her eyes and once again, he could almost see little hearts floating over her head.
Ed found himself smiling at this face.
"Has she always been like this? Could kissing had been this way too?..."Ed thought in amazement.
If he knew when his immunity kicked in, maybe he wouldn't have run away all those times before. Maybe he would have kissed May back sooner.
He did not know, all he did know is that today, for the first time ever, he kissed May Kanker willingly and he liked it.
A LOT!
For some reason, he smiled as he felt something come over him. Something strong and warm too..
Something powerful.
May then said what she always says, not long after a kiss.
"I love you, Ed..."May said honestly, looking just as lovesick as ever.
Hearing those words triggered something inside of Ed, it came to him like a bolt of lightning or a bomb going off.
He really, really understood it now
He liked May Kanker
Ed liked Mat Kanker a lot!
No, that is not it...
It's...It's..."
"Love?..."He thought before he had a moment of Eureka.
That was it!
Love!
It's love, it must be it.
That is what that weird feeling has been.
Love!
She loves him but how does he feel about her?
He looked in her eyes again, smiled and felt that feeling increase ten fold. But Ed didn't mind since he now knew that feeling is love and he has felt that way for a long time, even if he just now realizes it.
What he feels is love!
He had to let her know that.
Ed, still looking at her in a whole new way, once again said the first thing that came to his mind, knowing that it is all true.
"I love you, May..."Ed said, meaning it.
He knew that feeling is love and he has felt it for a long time, maybe since they met and just did not realize it at the time. It didn't matter, since he now finally knew another important fact that he knows he will never forget.
That he loves May Kanker.
Yes, he does.
May gasped upon hearing this.
Okay, that did it. May is crying now.
Ed panicked at the sight of it.
"May, what's wrong?..."Ed asked, worried.
To his surprise, he saw her smiling and looking so happy, despite her tears.
"You big dummy! I'm just so happy to finally hear you say that..."May said, still sobbing in joy.
Ed was confused. Before he could ask, May leapt into his arms, knocking him over since she was stronger then he thought she was. She was on top of him and began kissing his face, much to Ed's pleasure.
"Muah...Muah...Muah..."She said as she kept peppering his face with kisses.
Ed found himself laughing as she did this, enjoying it.
"I like this!..."He thought, still laughing in between these little kisses on his face.
Still, he knew what he wanted to do right now. He puckered his lips again and leaned again. May got the message and eagerly anticipated the kiss from the only guy she has ever loved.
Ed leaned and kissed her again. May felt more tears falling during this kiss as she kissed him back as much as she could.
"Mmmm..."She let out.
After five seconds, a loud MUAH was heard and the two teenagers pulled away with smitten looks on their faces, their noses touching.
They kissed again and Ed put his arms around May's shoulders, pulling her in close against him. After the second kiss, Ed suddenly got the urge to do something different, So, with a mischievous smile, he picked May up and held her in his arms.
May gasped in delight.
"Oh, Ed!..."May giggled as Ed spun her around.
Ed began kissing her again. May kissed back and soon wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss again. They kept kissing and it wasn't long before they were at it again and both of them were feeling happier than they could remember being in a long time.
Very happy, in fact.
"Oh, Ed!~..."May thought happily during the kiss.
"Oh May!~..."Ed thought as the kissing got needier.
Soon, May pushed Ed to the ground and jumped onto him, kissing every inch of his face. Ed just laid there, for a second time today, being enthusiastically kissed by May Kanker.
Only this time, he was doing it back.
They both just stayed like that for a while, feeling so happy right now.
"Muah...muah...muah..."May let out as she kissed every inch of his face that she could get.
Ed was doing it to, with just as much gusto.
"Muah...muah...mmm..."Ed let out as he kissed both her cheeks before finding her lips with his own again.
The two teenagers were now on the ground, kissing and finally showing how they truly feel about each other in a way that they can both enjoy.
No chasing, no running, no lies, no tricks, no traps, no pretending to be afraid, no schemes, no screaming, no crying and no more being confused about strange but nice feelings.
VERY nice feelings.
Especially since there are NO more cooties!
Later
Over an hour has passed and Ed and May were now sitting beneath the tree, cuddling.
Once again, Ed's face was coated on May's lipstick but unlike other times, he was smiling. Once again, his lips were a little swollen and so is May's too. He and May both had blissful grins on their faces as they let kept holding onto each other as they laid again the tree, watching the sun begin to go down together, making it a very romantic end to a very romantic, and satisfying experiment.
"Wow, what a man!..."May said as she snuggled into his, feeling so blissful.
Ed just smiled and kissed her on her forehead, before snuggling into her as they continued to enjoy the sunset. He can only feel that strange feeling, which he knows is love now and he loves ever bit of it.
That he was in L-U-V with May Kanker.
Who knew?
Ed did, now.
"I should listen more to Double D..."He thought as held onto the enamored Kanker girl.
They just held on to each other. Cuddling under the tree together. They both felt so happy now. Nothing could spoil this.
Not even Sarah or even Eddy.
"Ed is not afraid anymore..."Ed thought as May rolled over in his arms, looking at the tallest of the Eds.
"So, does this means we are finally for real boyfriend and girlfriend?..."May asked quickly in excitement.
Ed paused when he heard that.
"Is that what Ed wants..."The simple Ed boy thought, unsure as May got excited as there were practically hearts in her eyes again.
"Um..."Ed started but the smitten Kanker girl kept talking.
"Does this mean we are finally going steady and be sweethearts for the rest of high school and you will take me on dates, to dances like homecoming and the prom and other stuff until we go to college together and eventually get married and have kids in a house in the suburbs, remaining deeply in love as we grow really old together and spend our golden years traveling the world, spoil our grandkids and be together for all eternity?..."May said quickly and in excitement.
Ed merely blinked and processed everything. If anything, his brain was overheating from thought process.
That's...a long life, isn't it?
"Uh, I don't know..."Ed said.
May heard this and frowned.
"But you just said that you love me and made out with me!..."May pointed out.
Ed nodded.
"Yes, Ed knows he said that and Ed knows what the feelings on his lips means..."Ed said, not knowing why he is talking in the third person but that is not the key issue.
But that was not the task at hand. Now, Ed had to sort things just hoped May would help him do that
He really hoped that.
"Ed doesn't know how to say how he feels. But he knows what that feeling is..." He said.
May was not sure how to take this.
"What are you saying?..."May asked.
He's not backing out, is he? No, dumb or not, Ed is NOT cruel like that.
The heroes in his comics and movies would not back down. Why would he?
Ed cleared his throat and mind before he spoke.
"May!..."He said suddenly.
The young girl stared as she gave her undivided attention.
"What?..."She asked.
Ed blushed again, before he sighed.
"I...I...I don't think I'm scared anymore..."Ed said.
"What do you talking about, Ed?..."May asked.
The tall boy sighed before he continued.
"I do like you May...a lot. I do have feelings for you...for a long time...I just now accepted them...And I want to know more..."Ed confessed.
There, he said it and he meant every word.
Every single word of it.
May stared in shock, her heart beating faster and faster.
"Say that again...Big Ed..." she said
"I said that...I like you and I wanna be sure about how I feel. I wanna be sure that I like you and I wanna be your boyfriend..."He said.
And for a record breaking time, Ed had ANOTHER idea that day.
A good one too.
"Do you wanna do an experiment...like how Double D and Marie did?..."Ed asked, blushing.
May raised a brow, confused until it dawned on her what he means.
The blonde gasped.
"Ed, do you really wanna go out on a date with me?..."May questioned, looking thrilled but she wanted to hear him say it.
Ed, being the simple sweetheart that he is, answered the easiest way possible..
He nodded.
"May...do you wanna go on a date with me?..."Ed asked.
"Of course, you big chunk of man! I've wanted that since we were twelve..."May squealed before she pulled him in for another enthusiastic kiss.
One that Ed returned.
The two laid like that as Ed wrapped his arms around her and pulled her on top of him. This continued for a while, but only one thought came across the two simple teenagers minds.
"I love you Ed..."A blissful May thought as she ran her fingers through his greasy hair.
"I love you May..."Ed thought as he kept kissing her.
Ed wasn't the brightest but he knew that in his heart he loved May Kanker.
And he knows now, that he always has.
"Mmm..."Was heard as the two teenagers kept on kissing and holding onto each other for a long, long, LONG time
In fact, they were kissing for so long that unknown to them, another couple who was on their way to the trailer park, saw them like this.
It was Marie and Edd. Edd was walking her back home from their date. Marie saw the scene and her jaw dropped to the ground while Edd saw it and wasn't surprised.
Not at all.
"It seems you have finally found your answer, old friend..."Edd thought.
He noticed that his girlfriend was about to say something, no doubt about to ask her sister how THIS happened but Edd stopped her.
"Marie, why don't we give them some privacy?..."Edd said.
Marie blinked as she saw the scene and then her boyfriend. She noticed that he did not look surprised at all.
"You knew about this?..."Marie said, shocked but not upset with the sight.
"It was a possible outcome..."Edd said, not denying or agreeing to anything.
"Come now, Dear. Let's leave them alone..."Edd said.
Marie heard this and smiled. She was happy for her sister and Ed is a nice guy. They deserve each other.
"Okay, but just let your buddy know that if he hurts May, he's done for..."Marie said in a protective tone.
Edd chuckled at that. As tough as Marie wanted people to think she was, she definitely cares about her loved ones.
He knew that personally.
"Come now, Darling..."He said.
As Edd walked Marie back to her home, the smart Ed boy sent one last look to his best friend, who was still kissing the blonde girl that he has loved for so long without realizing it.
Edd smiled.
"Way to go, Ed..."He thought as he escorted Marie home.
However, upon arriving to the door, Marie pulled him inside the trailer, apparently having gotten some ideas from her sister and their friend. Since he still had a while before curfew and since neither Lee nor the Kanker's mother were home, Marie wasted no time in dragging her boyfriend to the couch and jumped on him, wanting some make out time.
"Come to Mama!..."She said before she began kissing him.
"Oh my! She certainly is spirited, isn't she?..."He thought happily before he gladly returned it.
Meanwhile, a few yards away outside, his best friend and Marie's sister were still doing the exact same thing, blissfully unaware of the other, or that the third of their trio is in misery.
All and all, it was a happy ending for May and Ed, who finally got over his fear of cooties, thanks to finding the cure and now understanding the strange feelings he has always felt around May.
They didn't even hear the sound of it from several yards away. Sounds that came from the girls sister and the boy's missing friend.
"HELP ME!..."Eddy's voice was shouted while Lee's cackles were heard.
His friends did not hear him due to what they have been doing and wouldn't notice for a long, LONG time.
