The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden: Mokubo's First Christmas Party!

Chapter One: Let the Party Begin!

"Kiki…wake up, Kiki…"

Kiki groaned, her eyes fluttering open as her vision came into focus, revealing her Father smiling down at her.

"O…ohayo, Dad…" Kiki yawned, sitting up, her long brown hair in a fuzzy mess from her bed case of bedhead. "Where's…where's Mom…?"

Makoto refrained from ruffling her hair as he explained "She's in the Dining Room feeding your brother. Anyways, you'd better get up and get dressed, pumpkin; don't want the others to see you in your pajamas when the party starts."

"P…party…?" Kiki mumbled as she drowsily processed her Father's words. Eventually her eyes widened, the six-year-old girl now awake as she exclaimed "That's right, the Christmas Party! That's today!"

Makoto chuckled and nodded "That's right, so why don't you get dressed and brush your hair? I'll make us all chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast while you're doing that."

"YAY!" Kiki shouted with glee, leaping out of bed before running around behind her Father and pushing him from behind. "What are we waiting for?! Get going Dad; make like a tree and get out of my room so I can change in privacy!"

Once he was out in the hallway, Kiki slammed the door closed, making Makoto sweatdrop before shaking his head and chuckli9ng "…She's growing up so fast…"

"Good Morning, Mom! Good Morning, Moku!" Kiki greeted as she saw her Mother sitting at the table with Mokubo on her lap.

Kyoko smiled as she took in her daughter's hot-pink dress that extended to her knees, as well as her long brown hair which was tied into a simple ponytail, foregoing the relatively complicated braid that Kyoko usually did for her.

He kissed her daughter's forehead when she approached before greeting "Good Morning, Kiki", while Mokubo merely stared at his sister, dressed in a light green shirt and a miniature pair of khakis.

As Kiki took her seat next to her Mother and brother, Makoto came in, still donning his cooking apron as he placed two plates of pancakes in front of his wife and daughter. The tow of them nearly salivated at the delicious scent, syrup dripping down the sides and a generous amount of whipped cream applied to the tops in the pattern of a Christmas tree.

"YUM! These smell delicious, Dad!"

Makoto chuckled "I'm glad you like them, pumpkin. Alright, eat up!"

Kyoko looked to her husband and asked "Are you sure, sweetie? We don't mind waiting for you to cook some for yourself."

Seeing Kiki nod, Makoto chuckled "Thank you, but I'll be fine. I'm just going to cook mine now, so please, enjoy them before they get cold."

"Well…okay, sweetie."

"Alright, Daddy!" Kiki replied after her Mother, making Makoto smile before he turned around and went back into the kitchen.

With that, the two Naegi girls picked up their forks and butter knives and exclaimed "Itadakimasu!"

"Aunt Toko! Uncle Hiro! Kawako! Aunt Hina! Uncle Byakuya! Aunt Komaru! Jii-chan! Baa-chan!" Kiki greeted as her family, official and otherwise, came in the door.

Hiro, Hina, Komaru, and Shingi grinned from behind the stacks of presents they carried in their arms, while Toko carried a beaming Kawako in her arms as the baby girl wiggled, her arms outstretched as she exclaimed "Kiki!"

Toko smiled and put her daughter down, cooing "Alright alright, go see cousin Kiki…"

Kawako wasted no time in crawling over to Kiki, leading the young girl to kneel on the floor and wrap her arms around her cousin in a gentle hug. Smiling at the scene, Hana went over and hugged Makoto and Kyoko before leaning to kiss Mokubo's cheeks.

"Thanks for coming Mom!" Makoto greeted before turning to Byakuya and Toko and greeting "Byakuya, Toko, thanks for coming too!"

Byakuya and Toko merely nodded in response while Kyoko turned to her in-laws and greeted "Merry Christmas, to all of you."

Hana smiled and cooed "Any excuse to see my handsome little grandson! Oh, he looks so much like you did when you were a baby, Makoto!"

"M…Mom…" Makoto objected, his cheeks flushed rose as Kyoko giggled and Byakuya and Toko snickered at his embarrassment.

Choosing to spare her son further embarrassment, Hana asked "So, where should we all put the presents, dear?"

Makoto nodded and pointed "The Christmas tree is in the living room; just put them under the tree for now and we'll open them after dinner."

"Alright, come on, Shingi, I'll help guide you to the tree."

"Sure thing, honey." Shingi nodded as his wife placed her hand on his back and nudged him forward, Byakuya and Toko following suit with Hina and Hiro respectively.

Makoto approached his sister and offered "I'll help you to the tree, Komaru. Kyoko, are you okay watching the kids?"

Kyoko nodded, glancing back to the two girls on the floor as she agreed "I think we'll be okay. I'll stay here and play with them if necessary while you help with the presents and lay out the hos-d'oeuvres."

With one final nod, Makoto turned to guide Komaru over to the tree, making Kyoko smile as she turned back to see Kawako crawling and cooing over Kiki, who was now on her back. Kyoko then looked at her son in her arms, who merely stared curiously at his sister.

"Yeah, your sister can get wild sometimes Mokubo…but at least she's smiling…I wonder…you're a little too young to indicate it yet…but will you smile brightly like your Father and your sister? Or will you be reserved with your emotions like I was?"

"Alright, go Pikachu! Use Thunder Wave!"

"No! You paralyzed my Rattata! You'll pay for that, Kiki!"

The whole family had since migrated to the living room, splitting off into different activities. Kiki and Komaru were in the middle of a linked battle with a copy of Pokémon Red and Blue respectively on an old Game Boy that Komaru had gotten Kiki for Christmas before Mokubo was born. Makoto was in the kitchen diligently cooking dinner while his parents offered to read Kawako some books.

"Don't look so surprised, dear. She might not be a Naegi, but she and her parents are still part of your family, so they're family to us, too!"

"She's right, son; we'd be happy to read to her while the rest of you unwind."

That left Hina, Hiro, Byakuya, Toko, and Kyoko free to play a group campaign of Dungeons & Dragons while Mokubo slept in the crib in his parents' room for a nap. Kyoko kept the baby monitor right next to her character sheet as Hina continued to describe their battle encounter.

"Alright, Hiro's Halfling Bard deals five damage to the goblin, killing it."

"YES!" Hiro whooped, causing the others to roll their eyes before his wife took her turn, announcing her intent to use her Witch Bolt spell to deal damage to the next goblin.

Once Toko rolled her die, Hina announced "Okay, so Toko's Tiefling Warlock deals ten damage to the goblin, killing it in one blow."

Toko gave a satisfied smile, allowing herself to internally enjoy her victory before her ex-crush coughed into his hand and announced "Now then…I'll use my Thunderwave Spell on the remaining goblins guarding the Hobgoblin."

Byakuya rolled his dice before Hina announced "Alright, they fail to save against the Thunderwave Spell." After Byakuya rolled his dice again, Hina continued "And Byakuya's Human Wizard deals 12 damage to each Goblin, killing them all. Well done, Byakuya!"

Byakuya closed his eyes and smirked at Hina's praise, boasting "Naturally, such contributions are expected of a Togami." He then turned to Kyoko and opened his eyes, finishing "Alright, all that's left is the Hobgoblin. It's up to you, Kyoko…"

Kyoko nodded seriously and took her dice, announcing "Alright, I'll use my second surge and launch two attacks with my longsword."

"Okay, so Kyoko's Elven Fighter makes two attacks, and…" Hina's eyes widened after Kyoko rolled her dice, exclaiming "Whoa, Kyoko, you just scored Critical Hits on both of them! Alright, now roll all four d8s and…" Hina's eyes bulged out of her head as she exclaimed after Kyoko rolled again "WHOA ! KYOKO, YOU ROLLED 8S ON ALL FOUR DICE! THAT'S THE MAXIMUM DAMAGE POSSIBLE! YOU DEALT 32 DAMAGE AND KO'D THE HOBGOBLIN IN ONE HIT!"

Kyoko gave a victorious smile as the others made exclamations of praise, starting with Hiro "Whoa, Kyoko, even I couldn't predict that!"

"Wh…what kind of power do you possess?" Toko stuttered, amazed by Kyoko's luck.

"Th…this is…" Byakuya's expression matched that of his bewildered face when he was proven wrong about Sakura's death as he exclaimed "Kyoko, have you…have you tapped into your husband's luck?!"

Kyoko chuckled "Who knows? At any rate, the Hobgoblin's been beaten, so that should end the encounter…am I wrong?"

"YAY! Great job, Mom!" Kiki cheered from the other side of the room as she continued to play with Komaru.

Kyoko's heart warmed at her daughter's praise, making her smile before Hina chuckled, rubbing the back of her head as she announced "Anyway…you guys did beat all the enemies, so you earned 500 Gold from the encounter and…you all gained enough experience to get to Level Four!"

"Huzzah!" Hiro cheered, while Toko, Byakuya, and Kyoko rolled their eyes at his enthusiasm.

"Sounds like you guys reached a good stopping point…" Makoto announced as he walked into the Living Room, making everyone stare at him. "…I'm afraid the campaign will have to be put on hold for tonight; dinner is ready, everyone, so off to the Dining Room!"

Kiki groaned, but nonetheless turned off her Game Boy along with Komaru before they got up and walked towards the Dining Room. Toko got up and went over to Hana and Shingi, taking Kawako into her arms and gratefully nodding at Makoto's parents before turning around and making her way into the Dining Room as well. From there, Hana, Shingi, Hiro, Byakuya, and Hina got up and followed suit. As Kyoko was about to get up from her seat, she felt Makoto's lips press against her cheek in a soft kiss.

She blushed as she turned to look at his proud, beaming face before he congratulated "I heard my luck came in handy during your D&D campaign…great job, honey!"

Kyoko smiled lovingly and replied "Thank you…though I didn't need a positive roll of the dice to know your luck rubbed off on me."

"Oh? And why's that?" Makoto asked curiously.

Kyoko held up her hand proudly, her wedding ring gleaming in the faint glow of the multicolored lights emitting from the Christmas tree as she answered "I married you…" She then beamed as she rested her hands over her womb, joyful tears filling her eyes as she finished "And I got to give you two wonderful children. If that's not Ultimate Luck, then I don't know what is!"

"Waah!"

Well, it was nice while it lasted… Kyoko thought as Mokubo's cries emitted from the baby monitor. She stood up, collecting the gadget in her hand as she told Makoto "Alright, I'll go get Mokubo and change him before we join you all for dinner."

"Alright…see you there, Kyoko…" Makoto replied before kissing her cheek, making Kyoko smile with rose-tinted cheeks as he finished "I love you, Kyoko."

"I love you too…" Kyoko replied as they headed off in separate directions; Kyoko to their bedroom to tend to her son, while Makoto went to serve Christmas Dinner for everyone who had gathered in the Dining Room.
