Chapter 4
When I rolled over, I noticed John wasn't in his bed. I smiled and looked down to the floor because he felt beds made him on the soft side, it wasn't rugged enough to suit him. But he wasn't there either. Now, I was frantic. I slipped on a pair of shoes and grabbed my keys to go look for him.
As soon as went to get in the truck, I seen his large outline from a distance. "What are you doing out here?"
At first he didn't answer me as I seen his hands go up to his eyes. "Thy wife would set on night like this. Wish upon the stars. Until...it no longer matters. Lets go back inside."
It was the only time he had mentioned his wife to me. It was the only true emotions he had shown as well. From what I gathered from what he had said once we got in the room, she had passed away. Of course, he missed her dearly.
"Do you want a cup of coffee?" We weren't going to sleep anyway. I noticed a pot in the all night lobby.
John nodded as he gathered himself. It would be a new experience for him as well to have some. I grabbed the room key and went to get it. So he could have a few minutes alone.
There were path lights up to the lobby so you could see but I felt very strange. I kept looking over my shoulder as though something was there. "I've been around John too long." Now I was just getting down right paranoid.
The warm cups felt good on my hands for the trip back. John met me half the way. It was how he stared in the dark which worried me. As his nose went straight up in the air, I knew something was wrong.
"What is it?"
"Demon is near."
It was all he said about it. The door was locked immediately, then he brought out the heavy artillery, the gigantic knife. He calmly set on the bed with it while I sort of freaked out.
"Who is out there?"
"No noise."
We spoke just above a whisper yet he thought they could hear what we said through the walls. Now, I thought he was being ridiculous. But I was quiet as I enjoyed the hot cup of coffee.
The cup went up to his lips to take his first sip of the sweet nectar. That was spit on the carpet. "Concoction is worse than mud." Sure, it wasn't the best coffee I ever had. Maybe some cream and sugar would have made taste better to him.
Before I could stop him the paper cup flew through the air and hit the wall. It went everywhere. As I cleaned up the mess, it made me wonder if he had indeed drank mud before. But I shook it off when I got off my hands and knees from the carpet. I still had to wash down the wall then I could go back to bed. Pretend none of this happened. Maybe even have a dream about nice things instead.
John settled on the floor wrapped up in a blanket. He must of thought the threat was gone. So I done the same. I also made a check list of what I wanted to protect myself with just in case he was right.
The sleep was great. I felt good for once when I woke up. The knock on the door startled me a bit, especially when I realized John was gone.
"We have a problem."
It was the only warning the front desk clerk gave. Hell, I probably wouldn't have believed it even if he had told me. There was a naked John in the fountain taking a bath in the front yard of the hotel.
"Good day." He was so damn happy in the pond as he called it.
"Get out of there right now. I'm sorry..."
But it was too fucking late. The cop car was already here. I tried to head off the trouble. "My cousin is not from here. He doesn't understand our customs."
"He is naked in a fountain. Where is he from exactly he can't understand it is against the law?" Officer Swan wasn't buying what I was selling. "Get out and put your hands behind your back."
"Good day." John apparently was not understanding what was about to transpire as he enjoyed himself, he even gave a head nod to Officer Swan. If the cop figured out who we really were, we both would be in handcuffs. I might even have a residence along with him at a mental facility.
"Fuck." I let it out a little too loudly. I covered my mouth but it only made it worse.
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck..." Was all you heard from John while he was being put in the back of the cop car. He was happily going along with the officer and singing probably all the way there.
"Oh shit." I ran back to the room. I had to come up with a plan, a good lie to make the officer let him go. Before I made it back though, I let out a scream.
"I didn't mean to frighten you. Do you remember me?"
"You were at the diner."
"I think I can help you with your little problem."
If Edward was correct, I could get John out of jail without exposing us. "Thank you, I don't what else to say. No one has ever done anything like this for me."
"Say, you will have dinner with me."
"Yes."
Once again, I got completely lost in Edward's eyes. But once I broke away from his stare the feeling was over, I felt nothing. For now, I had another mission to accomplish, get John out of jail.
It seemed like a simple task but with John, nothing was ever simple. Nothing was cut and dry. Nothing was pure black and white either.
"He says he comes from the dark forest." Charlie wouldn't allow me to post bail. He felt John was, well, a fucking maniac.
"It is very dark where he lives. They have a lot of woods which he confused with our version of a forest."
"He also says, you are in grave danger. What is he talking about?" Charlie picked up the cup from his desk, took a swig of coffee and waited for an answer. An answer which I couldn't give him as I had none.
"Charlie."
"Dr. Cullen."
"May we speak in private for a moment?"
While they were huddled together having a private conversation. My head snapped to John. He was trying to pull the steel bars apart, screaming at Dr. Cullen.
"Stop that. I am trying to get you out of here. For once just listen to me."
Charlie came back after Dr. Cullen left. As he fiddled with the cell door keys, I prayed this worked. "I didn't realize he is under Dr. Cullen's care. You need to keep a better eye on him so he doesn't get in anymore trouble. Next time I will not excuse his behavior. For god sake, get him some pants."
"Will do."
John came out of the cell with a blanket tied around his waist and nothing else on. "Good day." He offered Charlie a nod as I got him the hell out of there, quickly.
But not before we already had another problem to face outside. "Stay afar from Bella." John pushed me behind him at the sight of Edward. His booming voice didn't express it quietly either.
"John, they got you out of jail. You owe them a thank you."
John stood his ground with them. Not a muscle in his body made a move or even flinched. He didn't give them a thanks of gratitude as I requested. Which I was certain they wouldn't help us out again.
It was Edward however, which stood out to me. His eyes blackened, his face was strained as he approached us. He was stopped before he got any closer though due to his father.
"We should go." Dr. Cullen soft spoken words got louder as well. "Edward."
After they got in the car and drove away. John finally moved from the spot he was a statue in. What he said afterwards confused me. "Last warning."
"Last warning for what?"
"Not speaking to thee."
"Then who in the hell are you talking to?"
This was where shit got sticky. John was having a conversation with an imaginary person now. Then again, he thought imaginary people heard us through the walls last night too.
Still I got in the truck with this lunatic. Maybe John Doe truly belonged in a mental hospital. Maybe he was truly sick and needed medical attention. Maybe I was sick and needed the same attention.
"Pull down your blanket. Your thingy is hanging out."
"What is this thingy thou speaks of?"
"Fuck it. I'm in too deep now. I can't just walk away." I lost my patients with him. When he asked me once again what I meant. "Shut up. Not one more damn word from you. You will remain silent until we get back to pack our clothes because they kicked us out and we have to find another place to stay because of you."
"Word." Although, John tested me when he said it. I let it slide when the laughter came out of him. At least one of us was happy today.
~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~
The sun came up as it shone through the makeshift tent John out up on the beach for us. It was official, we were beach bums with nowhere left to go. I stretched due to the hard ground taking it's toll on my body overnight.
John, however, was out on the beach as though he had a wonderful night's sleep. All was right with the world, maybe his world. Then I noticed he had Jacob with him. They were visiting together, I went to interrupt their party.
"So, what are your plans? Where are you going to stay? You shouldn't sleep out here in the open anymore. It's not safe. They come out at night."
"Why isn't it safe? Who comes out at night?"
Jacob ignored me the same way John done most of the time. Jacob acted as though he told us something we weren't meant to have knowledge of. "You should just be careful. Lets go see the barn."
"The barn?"
Apparently, I had missed a lot of the conversion they had. The plan they put in motion. But I went along with it as Jacob hopped in the back of the truck to show us the location.
"You can stay here until you find a place to go. But don't tell anybody about it. No one comes out here but me so they won't know. It is my secret little getaway."
"Thanks Jacob."
It was no more than a shack with doors and a loft. It was perfect for what we needed. I offered him money for the use but he refused it. "I'll back this evening to check on you guys."
"Honorable lad." John had kind words for Jacob after he left. Which, he was kind to take us in and knew nothing about us.
"Well, lets get settled in."
In corner of the barn was a stack of books and a lantern. On a old milk crate I found it. "I'll be damned." Jacob and I were reading the same book. Maybe sometime we could set down and have talk about it. I would love to have a conversation like I used to about the love a good book.
Although, there was almost no way to spruce up the place. I knocked the cobwebs down with a stick. Scattered hay around in the loft for a softer bed than the dirt I laid in last night.
After I gathered up all the junk and moved it to one spot in the back. It wasn't half bad actually. Home was what you made of it. Then I missed John, he hadn't been around for a while.
"What is that?"
"Fire pit."
It wasn't just a pit, it was our cook stove too. John had an animal, which scared me to ask what, on a stick. By the time he was done building it, it was a roisterer oven.
The flames kissed the outside of the flesh, then he would rotate the stick to do another side of it. As he handed me a hunk of it, I passed. "Suit thyself."
There wasn't much left of the carcass by the time he was done. As we set out for hours, I began to shiver. John built a small fire that I enjoyed the warmth from.
However, when the howls started, it became real clear to me. This probably was not the best of ideas. "Aren't you scared?"
"No."
Of course the big man wasn't frightened. But I was as those animals only got closer to us. Those sounds were surrounding us. "John, maybe we should go inside now. Lock the doors, pile something in front of them."
The deeper his breaths of air was inhaled, I knew something terrible was about to happen. His nose seemed to know all. The snapped sticks, rustled leaves indicated it was too late to run. They were only feet away now.
The closet weapon in reach was one of the sticks for the fire. It might not be the idea protection but it was all I had. Whatever was about to enter our camp ground, wasn't of the friendly nature.
"What are you doing here?" It was one of them when he came in sight. He had no shoes and was in only a pair of shorts on this cold night.
"Jacob said we can stay here. We will go and are sorry if we caused any problems."
"You were at the bonfire the other night. I'll talk to Jacob in the morning. We will discuss it."
"Hey." There were more behind him. Also without shirts on just like the other one.
"Hi." I gave a slight wave. Not certain what else to say.
"Jacob told us about you. Are you his girlfriend?"
"No." Their questions were endless. They kept going on about Jacob.
"I will meet you guys back at the house, don't be long. You can stay until morning."
"Okay." I wasn't sure if heard me or not as he trotted away. It was completely dark and he running. I hoped he didn't fall down before he made it back. The other two just stood there with a goofy grin on their faces. "Are you guys scared out here in the dark?"
They seemed to get a kick out of the question. "No."
"How can you see to get around?"
They looked at each other, laughed and then laughed some more. "Excellent eye sight. So, back to Jacob. If he is not your boyfriend, do you have one?"
"No."
"I'm Quill, wanna go for a picnic tomorrow."
"Man, I was gonna ask her."
"You snooze, you lose. You will have have to excuse Embry. He is not a ladies man like I am."
"You're not either Quill." They were literally shoving each other and slapping arms like children. Actually, they were giving me a fucking headache.
"I think I'm busy tomorrow. Maybe some other time." But a hard shove from behind by John. Reminded me why we were here. "I just remembered, I'm not busy tomorrow after all. There is one thing I need to know first, how old are you?"
"Eighteen." Quill answered my question with hesitation. The slight pause he made, had me very concerned I was conned again.
"I am going to need to see some identification."
"Do you always require to see identification?"
"I do now."
"I don't have my wallet."
"Well, come back when you do."
"I might have something on me."
My foot tapped with a hand out as I waited until he fished it out of his shorts. A quick scan of his wadded up school paper by the light of the fire which stated he was a senior in high school, showed he was at least around eighteen. "I will see you tomorrow night."
"We need to go." Both of their heads went in the same direction. As though they heard something. Then they scurried away. I really hoped they didn't fall down on the way back in the dark.
Once we finally went inside. I didn't sleep very much. It became more apparent I needed to have something to protect myself with. If not from this damn town, perhaps John even.
Before John woke, I decided to take action, to take care of myself. Town wasn't far from here. Besides, how much trouble could he get in to out in the middle of nowhere, with no one around.
Once I explained what I was looking for the guy showed me a case full of guns. "That's probably a little too drastic." Then we went to knifes, steel batons and throwing stars. "I'm not comfortable with it."
Pay dirt when I was shown something which wouldn't kill someone or break bones. But still allow me to have some protection and time to get away.
"I'll take it."
It was now haul ass back to John before he got up. Of course, he was already up and gone when I made it back. "Now what. Where did he go to?"
If you didn't want to know something never ask. When I found him, he was naked again in the water. His long hair flipped with the water cascade down his back as he came up out of it.
Truly, I tried to look away. Well, for the most part I had. "You can't walk around naked with your thingy hanging out for others to see."
John's head turned from side to side. He must have noticed my lingering a little to long look down there. "Ah, thou is referring to thy piece." It would have been better had I answered him instead of not acknowledging I had stared at his huge dick. "Thee refers to this?" He now had it in his hand for crying out loud.
"Yes, that is your thingy."
"Piece."
"Yeah, whatever you call it. You must cover it up. It is not acceptable here."
The conversation about it was over. I walked quickly back to barn to read. I didn't want to look at him and I didn't want to know if he was at me. Thankfully, Jacob came so we didn't have to talk about it anymore.
"Sorry I didn't make it here last night. I was running a fever and not feeling well. I'm better now. So, how are you guys?" The flu bug must be rampant here. Seth had said something similar the other night.
"Did Sam talk to you about us being here?"
"Sam." Jacob scoffed when he said his name. Along with an eye roll. "I can't stand Sam, they follow after him like they worship him or something. He thinks he runs this reservation but he doesn't. Dad owns this and you can stay here."
"Who follows Sam and worships him?"
"All of them."
"Quill too? I thought you were friends."
"We can't even be friends anymore because of Sam. Quill and I used to be close, he doesn't even talk to me now. It's almost as though they are in a cult. Especially since he got that stupid tattoo just as Sam told him to."
Oh shit, ran through my mind. Jacob went on to express his dislike about it. I went on afraid I would be a human sacrifice of a cult. There was no damn way I was going to be alone with Quill, fuck no.
After Jacob left, I was ready to call the whole thing off. "I am not going out with Quill. He may kill me. I knew something off about this place. He is probably a raving dangerous killer masquerading as a dumb kid. They probably all are. They probably hide the bodies on the reservation."
"About as dangerous as a newborn pup. Thou has nothing to worry about."
Sure it was easy for John to say that. Not so much for me as I would be the sacrificial lamb they slaughtered. Why the hell I went along with it was still a mystery. Why I went along with any of this became just another part of the insanity. Then the moment of truth, or possible murder, came to pick me up.
"Are you ready Bella?" Quill had a basket in his hand. There could have been rope to tie me up with in it. There have been knock out drops to put me out so I wouldn't see it coming in it. There could have been a gun to just shoot me in it. "I hope you like some of this stuff. I raided the pantry." As he lifted one side to show me what he packed. Well, there could have been food in it too.
"Um...I...um..."
"Bella is delighted by thous company."
John and I weren't on the same page with this shit. He insisted he wouldn't be far away if anything happened. As an insurance policy I stuck it in my jacket pocket. I would at least be able to get away if shit got upside down.
Quill extended his arm for me to take. My face must have told the distressed story. As I went right on by and pretended I never saw it. "So what kind of tree is this?"
Actually I found him appeasing to accommodate all the questions. Not to mention the distractions, I could point, walk in front of him, behind him to keep an eye on him. Also I sidestep him altogether to keep my distance.
Until we came to the end, that was. There was nowhere left to go but down. "Come look, Bella. This is beautiful. We dive off this cliff all the time."
"Um...no...I'm good right here." All I thought of was being pushed off the cliff. Quill playing sacrifice Bella for the good of their cult.
"Are you afraid of heights or something?"
"Yeah, that's it."
He bought my excuse to stay far away from the edge of it. He brought out a nice blanket he spread out on the ground. Then patted it for me to set down with him. At the farthest corner away from him. I took my jacket off, placed it on the blanket and set down on it. So I could dart away as quickly as possible.
With the food scattered out in front of us. I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat or not. "Dig in." Quill had a huge appetite as he ate all six tuna fish sandwiches with onions. I snacked on a few grapes. "Don't you like tuna?"
"It's the raw onions. Just the smell of them, makes me ill."
"Oh."
"I need to use the restroom."
"Pick a spot. It's all restroom out here." There wouldn't be a private area to pull your pants down out here. Quill kept talking to me as I tried to get my business done. "I'm sorry about lunch. I should have asked what you like to eat. I guess you won't wanna kiss now."
There was part of me which was relieved this was about over. But the other part, knew why I risked coming out here with this crazy son of a bitch. So, I done what had to get done. "I have breath spray in my pocket if you'd like to use it." I bought it on the road trip so I could at least keep minty fresh. When I couldn't stop to brush my teeth.
But then, it hit me. I didn't tell Quill which pocket it was in. There wasn't time for me to pull my pants up even. With them around my ankles I tried to run back. I almost made there too before I tripped and fell down. "No. Don't..." It was too late.
Quill screamed in agony because he picked the wrong pocket, he chose the mace. He was rolling around on the ground and I tried to take the canister away from him. One of us, at this point, I wasn't sure which one pushed the button down again. Now I was as blind as he was.
He was on top, then I was on top as kept rolling on the ground. We done this until I heard John's voice. "Hold on."
My feet was suspended in thin air. "I've got you Bella. Don't let go." Quill had a grasp on my wrist. He was freakishly strong. We had went over the cliff and he grabbed me at the last second before I plunged to my death.
We all had an edge in life we dived off of. We all floated our psyche on top with an ocean underneath us ready for the plunge we were about to take. Only this time would probably become my breaking point if I survived it.
John must have caught Quill, in return he caught me. The dirt made me sputter as he it continued to fly in face. "Were here Quill." There was a group of voices I could make out. Since they were working to rescue us, maybe Quill wasn't the threat I thought he was.
A couple of time I banged off the rocks as I was pulled up. I wanted to kiss the dirt when I felt solid ground under my ass. They all were asking what happened, if Quill was alright. Not John, it wasn't the approach he took at all. "Pull up thous trousers. Thous thingy is showing. Not acceptable."
"Oh my god." I never pulled up my pants. I was over a cliff with my garden on full display. It was a bushy garden too because I missed my wax appointment due to living on the run with John. Well, at least I didn't have to face them all. I couldn't see them.
"Milk will help. Set still." Now they were pouring it our eyes to flush them out. Or I guessed it was since it was what they said. I was cold and wet from it.
"Did you get some Quill?" I thought it was Embry which was with him last night. "Oh wait, the ladies man fell off a cliff." Laughter erupted around us. They took turns making fun of him and a couple times me too.
"That's enough." It sounded like Sam's voice from what I could tell.
It was about over though, the date from hell. "Quill, I am so sorry." I went to place my hands on his chest, to give him a kiss. After all, I hadn't done all this for nothing.
However, I was the one totally surprised. When my ass was shoved down in the dirt. "Don't touch me." That voice was Leah no doubt. I thought Quill felt a little lumpy.
"Leah." Once again, Sam got involved.
"She groped my boobs." Technically, I couldn't argue with her. I done just that. But in my defense I couldn't see a damn thing.
"Good day." John said it before I was hoisted over his shoulder. Maybe this time, he had enough of me and broke this up.
He wasn't exactly a gentle soul. I bounced around as he walked us back to the barn. Or I guess we were on our way back, hell, I still couldn't see a damn thing.
"Stop thrusting about." With his boots on each rung of the ladder I knew he was climbing and relaxed a bit. When my feet hit the hay, I could smell it before I went crawling around through it to find the bed. "Did thou find the knight?"
"How in the hell should I know if Quill is the one. I couldn't even see him let alone kiss him."
"Perhaps thou should have asked to see to see the lad's piec...thingy as he viewed thees. While thou could still see."
John seemed to get amusement out of my grief. He laughed and laughed. I however, wasn't laughing at any of this shit. As I felt my way around to the covers in the hay.
~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~NAUGHTY WOLVES~~~~
"Bella. Bella. Bella."
It was faint at first. If was far off in the distance. I couldn't make out the voice. I couldn't make out the message they were sending. I couldn't make out why they continued to summons me or what they wanted.
It rang louder in my ears. There were sweet slight hums in between them calling my name, those mesmerizing hums done things to me I couldn't explain. It took control over my body. It moved me closer to the sound while I stood perfectly still.
"Come Bella."
It was in stereo broadcasted from every angle, as the vibes of the voice inched me towards it. The surroundings were so dark, so unfamiliar, so inciting. Yet I dreaded on to the unknown.
"Bella." This was familiar as I felt strong hands squeeze my shoulders. "What is wrong with thou?"
"I must have been sleepwalking. I've never done that before." When John woke me, I was outside the barn with no shoes on. How I got there, I had no idea.
With all the strange things he done since I known him, this one made me sleep with one eye opened once I got settled back in the loft. He leaned himself against the pole beside my bed with his giant knife across his lap.
"Rest, thou has nothing to fear."
John reassured me every time I doubted him, even though I never said so. Eventually exhaustion took and over, I drifted off again. Only this time, this dream was one of the best I had in a long time.
The sandy beach warmed the bottom of my feet while I collected sea shells. The white cotton dress I had on bellowed the sound of lust every time it caught the breeze. But when I seen him, my heaving bosom became obvious through the fabric. As my nipple stood at attention with just the sight.
The white horse's tail bounced each time it's hoofs met the sand. The pounding it made with it's movements matched the one in my heart. As my eyes focused on the rider, the heat came to my face and other parts of me as well. He was still to far away yet I could tell how the sun shined on his beautiful body he was the one.
"Bella." When John woke me up from my dream, I rolled over and covered up my head. "Good day."
"No it won't be I'm sure."
"Thou needs to rise."
We were suppose to meet Jacob on the beach tonight. I was happier when I was still asleep, dreaming of him, whoever the sexy man was. But I hadn't realized until now I slept the entire day away. Against my better judgement, I got ready to go so we wouldn't be late.
Jacob however, was nowhere around to be found. We waited for hours on him too. The sunset and it was getting dark. It was time to go, I was done with this.
Just as we were about to leave, I seen him. The man from my dream. The white horse, the beautiful rider. But then he came in to full sight.
"Jacob wanted me to tell you he won't make it tonight. He's sick."
It was just Paul. Since Jacob wasn't coming. I was ready to go. John grabbed my arm before I could walk away. "Make thous move."
"I don't know how to ask guys out. I haven't exactly been successful at this so far."
"Allow me to assist thee."
"Fine. Just make it fast." If John wanted to ask Paul out, maybe they could live happily ever after together. Besides, Paul wasn't my type.
"Thee shall bestow the honor to fuck Bella? As thee seems closest to a knight." You would have thought I'd known better than to allow John to speak for me. Especially now I wanted to bury my head in the sand from embarrassment.
"Umm...okay man."
"The lady needs to see thou's piec...thingy before consummation."
"Umm...okay man." When Paul dismounted the horse. To show it to me. He too was a little on the deranged side. It had to get stopped and stopped right now.
"Excuse me. If I want to see your thingy, I will let you know." I broke up their pimp me out session. If they thought it was alright to make my decisions for me, they were mistaken.
"So, do you want to go out tomorrow night? Seeing my thingy is optional. I might not be in the mood to show it to you." He was so smug when he zipped up his pants. As though he wouldn't whip his cock out for anyone and everyone.
John raised one eyebrow high waiting for my response to Paul's question? A slight smile crossed Paul's face while he done the same.
Sure, Paul had a horse. Sure, he looked like a bronze god in the moonlight. Sure, he done the reenactment of a sexy dream I had about the perfect man. But all that meant nothing.
"Okay." It was what I said but not what was actually meant. It was done in defeat. There was only one way to get off this fucked up psycho ride straight to hell. It was to go out with this asshole and prove he wasn't the one.
The walk I took alone on the beach had me muttering to the night air. "Please do not let it be him, anyone but fucking Paul."
"Thou must feel the connection as thee wishes to fuck Paul." John was my shadow. He was never far away. At times it drove me nuts.
"No, that's not what I meant. I...oh fuck it."
"Perhaps Paul will show thou his thingy. To entice thee."
John was starting to wear on my last nerve. But I tuned him out when he kept going on about Paul's dick and offering more advice on the subject. I just stared as the big bright full moon above me and made a wish on it.
I hope you enjoyed reading me!
