Hermione was fast asleep in her bedroom with her head on top of Draco's chest while Crookshanks laid down at the foot of the bed and Rebel stood on top of his perch looking over them. Luckily for the two lovebirds Hermione's parents had gone into town getting ready for their annual New Year's Eve party that they had absolutely no idea that the two teenagers had been sleeping together.
Draco slowly started waking up and realized that his chin was now rested on top of Hermione's head and he smiled warmly down at her before pressing a soft and tender kiss to the top of her head. That's when suddenly Hermione woke up and smiled back at him. "Ah good morning Sleeping Beauty." He began before giving her a morning peck on the lips.
"Good morning." She replied with a grin before kissing him back.
"So, how did you sleep last night?" He asked her.
"Other than the fact that Rebel wouldn't button his beak for one measly minute pretty good actually." She replied before he let out a chuckle.
"He's an owl darling." He began with a grin. "He can't help it he's a nocturnal animal." He pointed out.
"Yeah well so is Crookshanks but I never seem to have a problem with him." Hermione told him as she let out a rather loud yawn and a stretch and then got up to use the bathroom and that's when Draco suddenly heaved a sigh and looked up at his feathery companion.
"What do you think boy? Should I tell her today? Or wait until midnight to tell her?" He questioned as now that he and Hermione had been dating quite a while, he was preparing himself to tell her the three little words that every girl loves to hear. However, that's when suddenly his thoughts were interrupted by Mr. and Mrs. Granger coming home from the grocery store. They weren't the brightest people, but they actually weren't as bad as Draco thought that muggles were going to be.
"Draco! Hermione! I brought a dozen doughnuts home for breakfast!" Mr. Granger called up the stairs and about ten to fifteen minutes later they were finally finished getting ready and came downstairs to eat.
"I sure hope that you two didn't spend the night together in the same bed last night." Mr. Granger said while eyeing them suspiciously.
"Don't worry Dad, nothing happened." Hermione reassured him. "I never thought that I would catch myself saying this in a million billion years, but Draco's really a complete gentleman." She told him which was the honest truth. After they finished eating they got all bundled up and went outside.
"So now what do you want to do? Go for a walk?" Draco questioned as he looked lovingly at Hermione and then took her by the hand.
"Yes and no." Hermione began. "I told some of my friends that I would go meet them for ice skating." She told him before he stifled a laugh and that's when she narrowed her eyebrows and glared at him. "It's not funny I'm serious!" She snapped.
"I'm sure you are." He began. "I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at the fact that you actually believe that I'm going to do that silly old muggle activity with you." He told her with a rather wide grin on his face and that's when he realized that sadness was growing in her eyes.
"Oh." She simply just replied before heaving a sigh as Draco rolled his eyes.
"Alright fine! I give up! We'll go ice skating, but if I fall and land on my ass then it's on your head." He told her as he pointed a firm finger at her and then started walking with her to the ice-skating rink. "By the way, do your friends know that you're a witch?" He wondered and she nodded.
"Oh yes, they've known for just about as long as I've known. None of them are witches though. The only friends that I have that are witches and wizards are back at Hogwarts. Besides you of course, but you're my boyfriend so I wasn't really counting you." She told him as they went to go get their skates and that's when Draco saw a few other girls coming over to greet Hermione excitedly and that's when suddenly a brown curly haired girl with bright green eyes and freckles down her cheeks turned to look over at him.
"Is this your boyfriend?" She questioned her eagerly as Hermione nodded again in response.
"Yeah. Jill Young meet Draco Malfoy." She began. "Draco, this is Jill." She explained.
"Okay so if that's Jill where's Jack?" He wondered.
"Oh he's back at home with the Flu." She replied before heaving a rather small sigh and Draco opened his mouth to say something and then quickly changed his mind and shut it again. He sat down on a bench with Hermione to put on his skates and then they skated out onto the rink together. Hermione tried with all of her might to suppress her laughter at how much her boyfriend was struggling to stay on his feet and eventually wound up falling and landing down on top of his bottom.
Hermione giggled as Draco blushed beet red. "Well you don't have to laugh at me." He mumbled underneath his breath while quickly turning his head away from her.
"I'm sorry, but I can't help it. You're being extremely adorable right now." She told him before offering him her hand and then helping him back up onto his feet.
"You know, as long as you don't let go of me, this might not wind up being so bad after all." Draco confessed and smiled at her as she closed her eyes and then rested her head on top of his shoulder.
"I'll never let go." She whispered softly and Draco suddenly found that this heart was now pounding like a bongo drum and planted a soft kiss on top of her head before they continued skating along with the rest of the girls.
….
That night at midnight Draco and Hermione counted down until the old year had ended and a brand new one had begun, and fireworks had now lit up the sky. That's when Draco finally gathered up all the courage he had now had inside of him and took her hand. "I love you." He whispered into her ear and Hermione turned to smile at him.
"I love you too." She told him and then at that moment they exchanged warm and loving affectionate smiles and wrapping their arms tightly around one another closed their eyes and started to kiss having just made a new beginning for a new chapter of their lives together.
