In this chapter, Jill Valentine will meet with the UBCS.
She shouldn't trust Nikolai though.
He's a backstabbing scoundrel.
I'd say he's about as trustworthy as Albert Wesker...who will not be appearing in this fanfic. Sorry if you're disappointed, but I'm staying true to Resident Evil's canon. Though I am taking creative liberties.
I might do one based on Code: Veronica though. Even though it doesn't have a number like most of the Resident Evil games seem to have.
Chapter 6: The Clock Tower
After making sure Nemesis left the scene so that she didn't get a rocket to the face, Jill Valentine entered the clock tower.
Fortunately, there didn't seem to be any zombies inside. Otherwise she would be hearing moaning. It creeped her out whenever they did that.
None of them had wandered in.
There, she found the UBCS...or what was left of it.
"Oh Jesus Christ, don't tell me the zombies found our hideout al-oh wait, you're not a zombie." noted Carlos.
He sighed in relief. Perhaps he wouldn't have his flesh eaten...for now.
The other survivors were relieved to see Jill wasn't infected as well.
"Nope. I used to be a member of STARS." answered Jill Valentine. Though she could understand why Carlos could think that. It'd be easier to list the citizens of Raccoon City that HADN'T turned into zombies by now.
"You seem awfully sexily dressed for someone like that." explained the brunette man.
"I know." stated the woman.
But at least she felt comfortable in it.
Carlos decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth, even though Jill Valentine wasn't dressed too modestly.
They could use an extra gun to defend themselves from the zombies.
Especially now that there was some sort of super zombie out there that was armed with a rocket launcher. Up until now, he thought zombies weren't smart enough to wield such a thing.
Jill Valentine couldn't help but get the feeling there was something off about Nikolai.
But everyone else seemed trustworthy enough.
"I don't know what happened, one moment we were doing well and then the next thing we know, some monster from Hell attacks us!" exclaimed Carlos.
"I've encountered him too...though I wonder why he targeted you instead of me. He wants STARS members." explained Jill.
She had a moment of silence for Brad, the helicopter pilot that had ferried them to safety.
"Perhaps his creator wants to test out his combat potential." noted Nikolai.
"Hmm?" asked the woman.
"Just a theory." answered the white-haired man.
Chris Redfield showed up.
"Is this your boyfriend?" asked Carlos.
Jill's cheeks turned pink.
"No...but he is my partner." explained the woman.
The two had worked together during the mansion incident.
"Then he's a lucky man." remarked the brunette member of the UBCS.
Jill's cheeks turned pink again.
"We have a plan to escape. But first, we need to restore power so that we can power the subway trains." explained Tyrell.
"And from there, we can use the subway to escape?" asked Jill.
Mikhail nodded.
It seemed like their best option.
But the fact that there were zombies around complicated things.
"We're also looking for a vaccine for the T-Virus. You never know whose going to get infected." explained Carlos. For all they knew it could be him or one of his comrades.
Supposedly, Dr. Nathaniel Bard had the vaccine.
However, they weren't sure whether he was still alive. Perhaps the zombies had him for dinner. It was a grisly prospect, but unfortunately, it was entirely possible. Nobody was safe in a situation like this.
While they were unsure whether he was still alive, they all knew was that he was still in the city.
They needed to find him, otherwise any one of them could become a zombie. And nobody wanted to put a bullet through another comrade's head.
Well, except for Nikolai. But nobody else knew that.
Luckily, nobody was showing the symptoms at the moment, such as feeling hungry. Of course, nobody was feeling hungry because they had witnessed zombies eating their victims.
It was a shame that they weren't able to rescue them. Hopefully they would be able to rescue anyone still alive.
Although, it seemed the vast majority of the city's population were already dead...and walking.
Meanwhile...
"Chris?" asked Claire.
"We have a plan to rescue everyone. But it's going to be risky." noted Chris.
"It's not a crazy risk though, right?" questioned Chris's brother. In her mind, that would be taking on a horde of zombies with only her bare hands.
"No. In fact, if everything goes right, we might be able to save everyone still alive in the city." answered the older brother of Claire Redfield.
"Then I guess it is a risk worth taking." noted Claire Redfield.
For the plan to work, they needed to restore the power to the subway trains.
That way, they could use them to escape.
It seemed that in order to restore power to the subway trains, they needed to head to the subway office first.
However, if one of the Tyrants found out, they would no doubt try to sabotage their plans. They were smart enough to realize their intentions.
So they needed to be careful.
Elsewhere...
Leon noticed a rather attractive woman on the run.
"May I ask what you're running from?" asked Leon.
He assumed it was zombies, but he was still curious.
"I'm running from a Tyrant!" explained Ada.
She didn't exactly have time to chat. Not if she didn't want her head to be ripped off.
"A Tyrant?" questioned the man.
He had never heard of them.
STARS had though.
They had encountered one in the basement of the Spencer Mansion...or so they said. Wesker had claimed that it was the ultimate lifeform...not that it didn't stop them from killing it.
It helped that it had an exposed heart that they could shoot. Did Umbrella forget about that?
Suddenly, Mr. X approached them.
Leon was alarmed by the occurrence.
He seemed different from the zombies he had faced.
He then remembered the strange man he had seen outside the police station. The one that never talked.
As it turned out, Ada was being chased by that man.
What she had done to incite his wrath, he wasn't sure. But that didn't seem important right now. Right now he needed to try to stop the Tyrant from crushing his skull.
Leon tried shooting him, but he didn't seem too phased. It was almost as if he were wearing a bulletproof vest.
"This man's tough." noted Leon.
Perhaps he needed more firepower to take him down.
To be honest, he found this monster to be scarier than the zombies. At least zombies only needed a bullet or two. But this monster could probably tank a blast from a shotgun.
Unfortunately, he was not a member of the STARS team so he didn't have much more than a basic pistol.
Fortunately, things were easier for Ada now that there was someone helping her.
Still, perhaps they were going to need more bullets. They didn't exactly know how many it took to down a Tyrant, and there was more to deal with besides.
Although, the Tyrant's regeneration abilities did seem to be slowing down a bit.
Perhaps his regenerative abilities had their limits. It certainly was a wide limit though. Umbrella had done their jobs of making a supersoldier well. If they found a way to mass produce Tyrants, they would be unstoppable. And that was a thought that their enemies all dreaded.
Luckily, this seemed to be the weakest of the three Tyrants. Perhaps this was the first of them to be created.
Still, this did not mean it was to be trifled with.
After all, Leon couldn't help but shake the feeling the Tyrant had killed somebody.
He wasn't sure who, but he sure didn't intend on being the next victim.
Elsewhere...
"So you plan on using the subway to escape the city?" asked Frank.
Jill nodded.
It seemed like the fastest route.
She recalled using them before, back when Raccoon City wasn't a death trap of course.
They were a little cramped, but they were pretty useful for getting out of the city.
She didn't imagine that she would be using the subway system to save her life though. Up until now, she thought she would be using it to go shopping.
Admittedly, she had never been the most girly girl in the world...but she still liked to go to the mall every now and then. She had friends she could hang out with there.
She could only hope they weren't eaten by zombies. If they were lucky they would have left the city before the outbreak had hit. But nobody had seen the outbreak coming.
Although, perhaps she shouldn't have been too surprised. She had encountered the undead back at Spencer Mansion.
It made sense that she would be facing them again. Especially since the police chief had continued to allow Umbrella to do their dirty work. How she hated Brian Irons. Whose bright idea was it to put him in charge of the police anyway?
She wasn't expecting such large numbers this time, however. This made the mansion seem like a cakewalk in comparison. For a moment she questioned if she would survive. But she decided if she wanted to survive, she would stop thinking those thoughts.
Now that she thought of it, perhaps she would eventually be facing Hunters again as well.
Perhaps some of Umbrella's experiments had gotten loose.
It seemed possible.
Anyways, using the subway tunnel seemed like a great idea, because she couldn't help but shake the feeling that time was of the essence.
Well, there was a Tyrant after her and Chris obviously, but she felt there was another reason.
"The sooner I get out from this city the better." noted Frank.
"Frank...West..." murmured Hel from above.
He did not look to being caught by her. He had already seen what the monster had done to his pilot.
On the way to the subway office, Chris and Jill encountered more zombies.
However, they also encountered Lickers.
"I don't recall encountering these zombies in the Spencer Mansion..." noted Chris.
"That does sound rather unusual." remarked Jill.
Then again, things did seem different from the Spencer Mansion. Namely because of the scope.
Perhaps it was inevitable that they would encounter new types of zombies.
Chris noted that they resembled Xenomorphs.
They only seemed to have one mouth though. And they were red instead of blue.
Luckily, these zombies were blind. If they were quiet, the Lickers would not notice them and they could simply walk past. If Umbrella wished to use them as a bioweapon, they would want to research a way to counteract that flaw.
However, if they used their guns to shoot the zombies, they would inevitably draw the Lickers' attention.
All the more reason to conserve ammo.
On the way to the subway, they encountered another survivor. His name was Dario Rosso. Prior to the outbreak, he had been a salesman.
Unfortunately, he had lost his family to the zombies. And unfortunately for Jill and Chris, he was not interested in coming with them.
Which was a shame, because they could use an extra gun.
"You can't make me go out there!" exclaimed Dario.
"This warehouse isn't a safe place." warned Jill. And she wasn't sure if there was food and water inside.
If he stuck around, the zombies would eventually find him. And she knew from experience they could open doors.
Unfortunately, he refused to listen.
She let out a sigh.
It looked as if Dario wasn't going to survive Raccoon City,
Well, she had done her best.
Chris was upset as well.
Unfortunately, some people let their fear overcome their ability to act.
Dario was one of those people.
If only he wouldn't do that.
As she was close to Frank, Sherry Birkin was hearing Hel's voice as well.
"I guess you weren't kidding when you said there was a monster after you..." noted Sherry.
"Did you doubt me?" asked Frank.
"No, I just find it ironic we're both in the same situation." answered the girl.
"I see..." nodded West.
Meanwhile...
Wilford noted that Frank West was still alive.
Perhaps he really had covered wars.
He was a fan of his work. It was a shame he had to kill him off. But at this point he was an enemy to Umbrella...much like the former STARS members.
It seemed Hel hadn't found him yet.
But he would give her some more time. The US Military weren't planning to nuke the city...yet.
Beside, Frank West was about to run into mutated zombies.
His survival was about to get more complicated.
Perhaps Hel wouldn't need to kill him herself.
But just in case, he would have her continue his search.
One way or another, Frank West wasn't making it out of the city alive.
Otherwise, Umbrella could be at risk. If they found out that their experiments were responsible for what was happening in Raccoon City, they would most likely be slapped with a suspension of business decree.
And he had devoted his life to the company.
After all, they had done him a huge favor in the past.
And he intended to repay that favor.
Meanwhile...
Unbeknownst to the other survivors, Nikolai had his own plans for the vaccine.
He planned to destroy it?
Why? Because he considered it more profitable for the T-Virus NOT to have a vaccine. If there was a cure for the virus, it simply wouldn't be as marketable.
This would most likely endanger many people, but it didn't matter to him.
Just as long as he got money.
But for the time being, he would play along and have the rest of his squad help him search for it.
Perhaps Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield would help him.
However, given that he knew Nemesis was after them both, he got the feeling they wouldn't live long.
When they were inevitably attacked again, Nikolai would simply relax and enjoy the fun.
Of course, after he had destroyed the vaccine, he would want to escape.
He got the feeling that the president was going to resort to drastic measures to stop the T-Virus from spreading.
Raccoon City might not remain standing much longer.
"When this is over, I'm going to be a millionaire..." thought Nikolai to himself.
I decided to joke about Valenfield shipping. I do like the ship though. I just figured I would have some humor with it.
In the next chapter, our heroes (and Nikolai) will try to reactivate power to the subway.
Oh, and there's also some foreshadowing in the last sentence in the chapter.
I'll let you think about what it means.
But they better watch out for the three Tyrants. As if one wasn't bad enough.
