Castle and Beckett ended up at The Old Haunt in the evening. Castle was going to take her to have some proper meal, considering they only ate some pastries and cookies with coffee before they were caught up by the case. But she insisted to go to The Old Haunt.
So after arriving at The Old Haunt they sat on their usual booth. Beckett orders a cheese burger and fries and Castle a Mac n Cheese. They sit and waiting in silence. After the food arrives they start eating, still in silence. There's only silence between them but Castle is fine with it. He knows Beckett must be lost in her mind, trying to sorting and straighten things up. Beckett finally breaks the silence when she tells Castle that she's going to use the restroom.
When Beckett out of the restroom, she doesn't go back to their booth but instead she goes straight to the bar and sit in there. Castle only sigh before he finally stands up and follow her to the bar.
"A glass of scotch neat" Castle orders his drink.
"Four shots of vodka" and Castle hisses "Beckett" but she only shrugs
So when their drinks arrive, Beckett start taking her first shot. Castle sees her winces a little, he smiles a bit at her expression. Then he takes his scotch with a little sip and savoring it taste, feeling the burn on his throat. When Beckett finish her third shots. Castle takes the fourth and drink it
"Castle!" Beckett hisses
Castle shrugs at her and said "I don't want to take you home passed out and Johanna asking me what happens to her mom"
Beckett's heart melt because her partner had always been so caring and loving toward her little angel, Joey. Even he was shock when the first time he knew, but he has been so paternalistic with her daughter
"She wouldn't know. She's sleeping with my Dad tonight, so you don't have to worry Castle" she answers and smiling a little to Castle
"One GT" she asks and Castle smirking at her request. Castle just glad, at least she's not asking for another shots
Castle just sit there and swirling his glass of scotch while watching Beckett staring and circling her glass
"I don't want to go home Castle. I don't want to sleep there tonight when I was caught him there…. fucking with another woman just a few hours ago" Beckett stated and Castle winces at that statement
"But I also don't want to go at my Dad place. I don't know what to tell Joey if she asked me why she and her mommy sleeping at my Dad's and not in our own house."
"Then don't. You can always sleep with me" Beckett snaps her head at him and looking at him with one of her deathly glare
"Beckett… I mean that… you can always crash at my place. I have a few spare rooms that you can choose" Castle amends (or you can say explains) his previous meaning. Beckett chuckles a little then she starts laughing
"Beckett…?"
Beckett is still laughing for another few seconds before she said "You know Castle. My life is so funny. I founded out I was pregnant just a month after my mom died. My boyfriend dumped me when I told him I was pregnant because he thought that he's not ready to became a father. But suddenly, five years after that he came back into my life and he decided that he was ready. That he want to be the part in our lives, he was asking for a second chances to me and promised to a good father for our daughter." Castle could see that Beckett is taking a break and composing herself before she's going to continue
"And it was perfect, Castle. I could still remember Johanna happy shriek when I first introduced Will as her father and how Will was trying to amended those time when he was not around. We were happy" Beckett sighs
"But I was wrong! I was so wrong to think that it'll last forever! I was so stupid to think that my life was going to stay happy and perfect like that, that the world is done playing around and fooling around with me!"
"The things between me and Will started to off for almost the last three years. And I knew that it's-. Our relationship, it's not going to make it. We fought a lot and… it's just getting worse lately. But I- I just can't- I don't know if I can break things off between us, without hurting Joanna" Beckett confessed.
Her face is somber and Castle can see the glisten shining in her eyes even in this dimmed bar. He just takes a long sigh before speaking. Because he knows whatever he's going to say, Beckett is not going to like it. Hell he even doesn't going to like it!
"Kate." Castle started. Asking for her attention using her first name and he guess that's works because Beckett looks at him now with a serious, still somber and sad face.
"You know… the things between you, Will and also Johanna, it's inevitable. I mean, you can't end things with Will and not hurting Joey, even just slight a bit. But you also can't stay with him, just because you are afraid to hurt Johanna. It's not healthy, Kate, for your sake and also Johanna."
"What should I do?" Beckett asks but hearing no respond from Castle. So she tilts her head to him and saw him looking at her before he chooses to finishing his scotch with a big gulp. Castle then puts his empty glass on the table
"I don't want to scares you by saying that divorce is not scary or it doesn't hurt at all, because it will Kate. Believe me it scary and it's hurt, it's hurt for me nor Alexis. But I realize that it's the right thing to do, and I never have a single regret about it. It's better than staying in a contaminated place, that might even poison us" Castle look at Beckett with a bitter smile
"Rick" Beckett says his first name and holding his hand while giving it a small squeeze, Castle could feel electricity from the touch that stunned him. br /'God, I'm the one who should comfort her and not the other way around' he thought
"I want to have a truce you know. I don't want things to ended bad. Not again at least." Beckett states that cuts Castle thought short
"I know. But Kate, you can't call it a truce, if you ended up hurts."
"A truce shouldn't hurt any side of the party" Beckett looks at him wide eyes before going back to her drink and nodded her head a bit.
"Kate. I'll always by your side. No matter what is your decision is."
"And so is the boys and Lanie, you know" he added with a knowing smile and reassuring eyes
"Alright how bout we call off the day, Detective. You know, we both deserve it" he said with glee and gives her a wink
Well it's really late… okay it's not really that late actually. But with the week and hell of the day she had been through, she really need a good sleep, a good bed to crash and to cry too. Castle deserve some rest either she thought.
Castle look at her right into the eyes and smiles dearly, Beckett flatters but she's returning his smile. Beckett choose to break the eyes contact as soon as she feels her heartbeat increase, fast, really fast. Truth to be told Beckett knew about Castle has a feeling to her. But she never gives a chance of herself to think about it
"Okay, Castle. Let's go." Beckett said after she's standing from the barstool. She tucks his arm and drag him with her
