The Unfluffables
Chapter Five: Family
Blue's Bar and Grill
Nick, knowing how much Judy loved seeing him do it, agreed to play guitar for that night. It wasn't necessarily a good day, seeing the most dangerous criminal they put away escaping from them again, but since it was over, he might as well make the best of it. Judy, on the other paw, decided that since she sort of already knew Marian Wilde, to reintroduce her to her son before she ended up as her daughter-in-law. So she took her to Zootopia's number one cop hangout and did some gentle persuasion to get Nick on the stage. "Here's the perfect song for getting blackout drunk after a long day," shouted Nick as he got into the next song (Night Train by Guns N' Roses). As Grizzoli layed down the heavy drum beats, Nick and Scott got into the opening guitar riff, with Nick doing the vocals. "Loaded like a freight train, flyin' like an airplane, feeling like a space brain one more time tonight…"
"Some boy you got there," said Judy pointing to Nick, trying to be sincere. "He would have been a lot better if didn't hang out with those gangbangers," said Marian, "but it seemed like he turned out a lot better since the last time I saw him." "In all fairness," said Judy, "he was a scumbag when I first met him. But he's changed a lot since then." "It's nice to know he can still play," said Marian, "I agreed to buy him lessons after the scout thing didn't work out, hoping he wouldn't turn out like his father." "I don't know about that," said Judy trying to defend him, "then again, he never mentioned anything about him. Said you wouldn't tell him." "Jacky Zorro," said Marian, "that's his dad's name and a name I never want to hear again." "Who is he," asked Judy, "I'm asking because when I kept a secret like that from Nick, it didn't end well." "Look up the Zorro family on Zoogle, that'll tell you all you need to know," said Marian, "as soon as I found out who he really was, I changed my name and never saw him again."
As Nick and the band wrapped it up on stage, Judy waved up to him, gesturing to him to come to her table. Why does she keep doing this to me, thought Nick as he walked down there. "I'm going to need some hard liquor in big glasses for this," he said to Judy, "because if you're going to keep going behind my back, that's the cheapest counselor I can get." "Come on Nick," said Judy, "she's your mother. She just wants to get to know the new you." "That's not the way she sees it," said Nick. "Calm down Nicholas," said Marian, "I'm not trying to disown you a second time." "I'm an adult," said Nick, "we can both do whatever we want." "Can we just talk this out peacefully," asked Judy, trying to mediate the conversation. "You probably know more about my family now than I do," commented Nick, who then turned to his mother, "why don't you just adopt her and say that I died as a kit if you like her that much!"
"Don't do this Nick," said Judy, "she's the only family you have." "Like either of us have good experience with long lost relatives." "How many times do I have to apologize for that," said Judy, "I'm sorry that my brother, who I thought was dead, grew up to be a mass murderer who tortured and tried to kill you." "Alright mom," said Nick, "what is it that you want from me, or fluff?" "I just wanted to meet you again," said Marian, "I've seen what you've become in ten years and I'm so proud you became a way better mammal than what you were." "Good enough," said Nick, who then turned to Judy, "Judy, I'm sorry for being an asshole about this…" "Nicholas," said Marian, angrily. "Sorry," he paused, "anyhow, it's just that this whole thing, under all the stress we're both under, just feels forced." "So I get that," said Marian, "I heard on the news today that you're escaped convict got away again. What is it you really don't like about him anyways" "Krueger was part of some special forces unit back during Vietpaw, until him and his commander turned on their buddies and started running drugs," answered Nick, who then gestured to Judy, "I once had to watch him point a gun at carrots, then he tortured me before we escaped. He's one slippery bastard, who's managed to escape us many times before we got him."
"Alright Slick," said Judy, "we can find some nicer things to talk about." "Did you talk to your parents yet," asked Nick, "about us?" "Unfortunately," said Judy, "yes. They want to hold the ceremony down in Bunny Burrow." "Look, your family is nice and all," said Nick, "but Zootopia is my home. I'd feel all alone down there. Especially considering what it's like to be a fox in a town full of rabbits." "That's not what bothers me," said Judy, "I get that, but mom and dad want to micromanage the whole thing. I can't get them to shut up about it whenever I call." "Ever consider Paws Vegas," joked Nick. Judy and Marian couldn't help but laugh at Nick's comment. "Glad to know you still think I'm funny mom," said Nick as he prepared to go back to the apartment, with Judy quickly behind him.

"Okay Nick," said Judy as they sat down on the couch, "you were kind of an asshole." Shit, she's talking like me now. Not a good sign, thought Nick. "Sorry," said Nick as he awkwardly tried to apologize. "Don't sorry me," said Judy, "you were talking smack to your own mother." "Try not seeing your parents for as long as I did, thinking they hated you, only for you significant other to force them on you," said Nick, "then we'll call it a draw." "I would not…" "How would you know," interrupted Nick, "how would you know how you'd act when this clearly would never have happened to you. You are your parents favorite, they've never questioned supporting you. Until I put on the badge, I was nothing." "That's not true," said Judy, starting to tear up as she hugged Nick, "and you know it. Your quick thinking and smooth talking helped us save Zootopia, together, more than once."
Nick wrapped his tail around Judy as she cuddled against him. "So maybe I am happy you brought her back," said Nick, now starting to cry, "maybe I did miss her. Maybe she did miss me, the asshole I was. But after all those times I almost lost you, and this time against my old enemy, I can't stand to lose the family I have now." "Calm down Nick," said Judy, "we'll bust Salazar, and I won't die. Neither will you. I promise." She then kissed Nick, only for Nick to join in passionately. Then they rolled off onto the floor, with Nick on the bottom, only for them to roll over. "Take me fox," groaned Judy, "have your way with me!" Nick smiled as they began sex on the floor. "I love you Judy," said Nick, "even though you're trouble." "I love being a Wilde," said Judy as she let Nick hammer her.
Author's Note: This might be more of a fluff chapter, but it does set the stage for Nick's story arc. They might act like jerks from time to time, but those two definitely deserve each other. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
