With her eyes fixed to the ceiling and Bryan lying sleepily next to her, Brie reflects on her day. To be truthful, she's still in mild shock from her lunch date going so well. Despite being more optimistic than Nikki and Bryan, she still had her reservations. But she couldn't have planned for it to go any better - she might even have a new friend?
Although, as much fondness Brie has for Stephanie, convincing her husband and sister is an entirely different matter; they didn't even want her to go at all. Maybe they'd change their tune if they spent time with Steph themselves? Even if that was likely, getting them to do it in the first place would be impossible. They were stubborn when it came to the McMahon's; with that being said, it's fairly understandable when you look back. But what good does living in the past ever do?
No matter what anyone else thinks, Brie's come to know that Stephanie has a good heart. Wether it's a sudden change or if she's always had one, with it somehow hidden away.. Brie doesn't know. But why does that matter? If she's a good person now - which she clearly is - there's no reason to hold a grudge.
Brianna looks over her shoulder to her sleeping husband - they'd had sex, Bryan's simply obsessed with her becoming pregnant again. As much as she loves Birdie, Brie would rather not be a parent again, but these are all woes she's dwelled on enough times. If there's one thing she's happy about when it comes to trying for another baby.. it's the intimacy. Over the years, she feels like Bryan's taken less and less interest in her; maybe having to be so close more often can bring them together?
Unfortunately, thus far, that doesn't seem to be working out. Yes, they're having sex but.. it's like he's going through the motions - like he doesn't care about Brie, just that she gets pregnant somehow. It just so happens that's the part Brie wants the least; it got to the point where she considered taking birth control without telling him. But she doesn't have it in her to live such a lie. Besides, Bryan would only insist they keep trying until she conceives anyway.
Needing a midnight snack, Brianna quietly stands up and slides her feet into some slippers, wrapping a dressing gown around herself. As she steps out from her bedroom and into the open living area, Brie gets the fright of her life when she sees a dark haired woman sitting on their sofa; thankfully, when the mystery woman turns around, it's only Nikki.
"For God's sake Nikki! Why are you here? It's one in the morning!" Brie whispers, mindful of waking Bryan up.
Nicole lives with her boyfriend, Artem, in the house they built next door to Brie and Bryan. Obviously, living so close together was amazing in so many ways.. but it also meant Nikki could come and go when she pleases, giving Brianna fearful heart attacks when she chooses to come at hours like this.
"I wanted a pudding cup.." Nikki says casually. "We ran out at our house.."
"Then go to the store?"
"At this time? It's one in the morning, you know?" She chuckles.
Sighing, Brie walks over and joins her sister on the sofa - after retrieving herself a pudding cup from the fridge, of course. Even though it's insanely early, she was glad for the company - Bryan and Birdie were understandably asleep, but too much was going on in her own head to get any rest. Talking to Steph earlier really helped to calm Brie down, saying some of things she's been feeling out loud was a true relief. Perhaps the same would be with her sister?
"What's going on?" Nikki raises an eyebrow.
"What?"
"I know when you're upset about something." She reads her mind. "You're the heaviest sleeper I know. That's why I always come over at midnight to steal your food."
Brie laughs - she assumed their pudding cup thief was most likely Nicole. But she was right, Brie's a very heavy sleeper; being awake so late proves how much is on her mind. Maybe it's getting to a boiling point? What if she snaps? What if she says things she'll come to regret? It wouldn't be the first time..
"Spill." Nicole instructs.
"Well.. I'm just not sure if.. I'm not sure that I want a second baby.." Brie finally admits.
This was the first time she's said it.. definitely not the first time she's thought about it, but she's never actually told anyone. Surprisingly enough, Nikki's facial expression doesn't change - she doesn't seem shocked at all? Maybe she already knew about Brie's worries.. but then again, how would she?
"You're nervous about being a mom again?" Nikki presumes.
"Well.. sort've, but-"
"Brie, you don't have to be nervous!" She interrupts. "You're the most amazing mother out there, Birdie and your future baby are so lucky."
"Thank you.. really, I appreciate that, but-"
"No buts! I won't hear you talk down on yourself, you're the best mom."
Brie sighs deeply - Nikki clearly doesn't understand. Obviously, she appreciates the confidence boost, it's so sweet that Nikki believes in her ability as a parent so much. But, that wasn't really what Brie was doubting.. every mom has anxieties over being good enough, Lord knows Brianna did. However, this isn't a case of being nervous about a baby.. it's a case of not wanting a baby, two very different things.
This was just Brie's luck. Finally, she tells someone about what's causing her sleepless nights, then she simply doesn't understand. Of course, she doesn't blame Nikki for not getting it; after all, she's put up the facade of wanting more kids for so long now. Although, she did hope their twin bond would help Nicole to empathise.
"Anyway, I've had my pudding cup.. I'm gonna go back to Artem." Nikki says, standing up and opening her arms.
Brie hugs her sister. "Bye Nikki.."
Brie watches on as her sister walks out the door and heads toward her own home. A very small part of her wishes she would've brought this problem up to Stephanie as opposed to Nikki. Granted, that sounds stupid.. until recently, Steph was her so called 'enemy', and Nicole's practically her other half. However, she finds it really easy to trust Stephanie; she finds her really warm and overall, an easy person to talk to. With that being said, today was their first real conversation, so bringing up a topic so personal might not be the best idea.
Startling her once again, Bryan steps out of their bedroom and walks over to his wife. Brie kisses him gently as he wraps his arms around her; she hopes that he's doing it for the sake of showing affection, but she knows that he's trying to get her into bed, so they can try again.
"Who were you talking to?" He asks.
"Nicole - I caught our pudding cup thief red handed" Brianna chuckles. "I'm sorry for waking you up.."
"It's okay.. hey, you seem down.." Bryan notices.
First Nikki and now Bryan? Brie must be doing a worse job at hiding this than she thought. Despite it coming from a place of love, the way Nikki reacted confirmed that she really doesn't want Bryan to know. Unlike Nicole, if he doesn't understand it, he won't give her a hug and tell her she's amazing.. chances are, he'd be angry at her.
"Wait.. I know what this is about." He declares.
"You.. you do..?" Brie questions apprehensively.
"Of course.. I told you that Stephanie would end up upsetting you, I knew it was a bad idea for you to go.." Bryan presumes. "What did she say?"
"Oh.. actually-"
"You know what? Forget about it. Whatever she said, don't give it any attention." He continues. "Just don't give her any more chances. You're too forgiving."
"Bryan, Stephanie didn't upset me at all.. we actually got along really well." She corrects.
For some reason, Brie was almost nervous to admit that she likes Stephanie's company. Brianna's happy to swallow her pride and admit she got something wrong - she was very wrong about Steph - thinking she was an awful person was a huge mistake. But she knows that Bryan still despises her, and most likely always will.
"How can you get along with someone like her?" Bryan spits.
"Sweetface, I think if you spent some time with her, you'd like her too.. I mean, you can talk for hours about all she did wrong in 2014.. but can you name one thing she's done to hurt us in the last two/three years?" Brie explains.
"I will never tolerate that woman, let alone like her." He dismisses, refusing to even say her name. "Brie, I'm being serious.. please don't see her again. She isn't worth it."
"But Bryan-"
"No buts.. Brianna, I want you to promise me that you won't meet up with her again."
Brie looks down. "I promise.." she whispers.
Bryan smiles, nuzzling his face into his wife's neck. As predicted, he attempts to guide her back to their bedroom, but Brianna's mind isn't even in the realms of children; all she can think about is the idea of not meeting up with Stephanie again. Finally, Brie's met someone where the conversation just flows naturally.. someone who she can see herself opening up to. The superstar simply wishes that she had the courage to say 'no' to Bryan, but there are several things she's gone along with, despite being reluctant.
As Bryan takes her hand and pulls her back into their bedroom, Brie's mind remains full of one person in particular - Stephanie McMahon.
