Written in about a half hour.
End not is something I posted on Spacebattles in regard to the Laveres legal status, it's largely unimportant but somewhat necessary to avoid whining.
Enjoy!
Annette Hebert liked to see herself as a rational, understanding, and for the most part law abiding (objectively at least, what happened in college stays in college) citizen, even if she was a rebel at heart. Blame her Southern upbringing, she would be pleasant as a pastor to you but damn if she wouldn't cut an idiot down with a sharp word or two if deserved, bless their hearts. Keiko Kiriguya though was an oddity to her world view and had been since they had gone to school together. Always in the middle of some debate or another, never taking a solid side, and constantly seeming to be indulgently amused as everyone around her argued their viewpoints while she stood back, watching, calculating, and occasionally stoking the dumpster fire she had ignited in genuine amusement.
Danny had put it best some time ago, "The Devil went down to Brockton Bay one day looking for a soul to steal, then he met Keiko Kiriguya and quickly turned around and forced himself to forget the city even existed."
That was the thought process roiling through Annette's mind after she blearily opened her front door after being awakened by the doorbell and accompanied overly enthusiastic banging at 'too fucking early o'clock'. Annette met her ex girlfriend's sheepishly smiling visage as Keiko held up her slumbering daughter to her chest, her husband smiling blandly behind her waving lightly all while obviously trying to remain unobtrusive.
Was it a Tuesday? It had to be a Tuesday. Annette hated Tuesdays...
Then Shorty had to stutter out, "Umm...while it is a Tuesday I didn't cause this situation, honestly. Rosie can we please come in?"
Called it. Annette had to physically resist the urge to groan as she stepped aside and gestured for her unwanted visitors to enter her home.
Rubbing the bridge of her nose she turned towards Keiko with every intention of ripping into her when she felt soft lips ghost across her own for a moment; freezing up she paused and met Keiko's gaze while the small Japanese-American woman shrugged lightly, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience Rosie?"
Why, why the hell did she have to be so... fucking hot and adorable? Glancing to said woman's husband she took in his bemused and resigned visage a moment and simply sighed in despair as he shrugged in a 'what can you do' manner; well...whatever, at least she wasn't alone in her exasperation.
Leading them to the sitting room Annette sat in her chair. Danny could dispute it as much as he wanted, this Laz-E-Boy was hers and there wasn't anything he could say about it! Other then, you know, picking her up and placing her on his lap while he made himself comfortable in her chair that is...
Right, thoughts for another time, super villainess ex girlfriend and her super villain husband were here with her goddaughter in the middle of the night, Danny and Taylor were still thankfully asleep, and her .357 hidden in the folds of her chair only had six rounds. So, time for some answers...
"Ok, so... Shorty, Bonedaddy, why exactly are you two here in the dead of night with my obviously emotionally traumatized goddaughter?"
Keiko and Marcus exchanged glances, then Blink sighed and gestured towards Marquis who quickly spoke up, "So...there we were, minding our own business..."
This was in reaction to someone rambling about all the legal ramifications involved with Marquis and Blink being outed and killing Brandish, blah blah blah.
Rest assured dear readers, sanity shall prevail:
That's the thing, the Lavere's were not officially outed. They had their home invaded in the dead of night by a bunch of costumed lunatics and barely made it out alive to wait out the police investigation at a friend's house. Keep in mind, this was a completely independent action on the BBB's side, no one else knows that Marcus Lavere is Marquis, or that Keiko Lavere nee Kiriguya is Blink (when they find that one out there will be a collective brick shit and much scrambling to make this someone else's problem), which is a good thing for everyone all things considered.
Remember how Purity reacted when the Feds took Aster? Imagine if they tried to take Amelia from the Laveres. Got the image of hundreds of mercilessly slaughtered police left writhing on grotesque bone crucifixes, and hundred thousand ton freighters dropping from low orbit above every major metropolitan center in North-America in mind?
To hell with how they should be handling this situation, the PRT and cops know they're handling a nuclear warhead with a shoddy safety on the trigger and they are beyond lucky that Blink's ex-girlfriends husband is a seasoned negotiator who is on good terms with her if it ever reaches that point.
