Chapter 20 Not What I Want

Kludd's POV

One Hour Later

I was standing in front of everybody.

"Congratulations Kludd", King Boron said. "By passing Lyze's test, you have been cleared to fly!"

Upon hearing this everybody cheered.

"You may now pick which char you are placed in", King Boron revealed. "Choose wisely."

"I choose...to be put in Willow's char. That way, I can help her help other owls like me."

With that I looked over at Willow.

She smiled at me...and I smiled back.

"Wise choice", King Boron stated. "A round of applause to Kludd!"

Ten Minutes Later

I flew up to my family.

"Well done Kludd", my da said.

"We're all so proud of you", my ma stated.

"Thanks", I said before spotting Willow. "I'll catch up with you guys."

With that I flew up to Willow.

"Well done Kludd", she said.

"It's all thanks to you", I stated. "After my wing broke, I thought my flying days were over, but they're not. Because of you. Thank you Willow." [Forever Brothers Extra: Do my eyes deceive me or is Kludd actually being nice?]

"You're welcome Kludd", Willow said. "And now, you can help other owls just like you learn to fly again too!"

With that...I looked down sadly.

Not if I'm still with the Pure Ones.

And that's when I made a decision. A decision that would change my life forever. [Forever Brothers Extra: What decision?]

...

It was daybreak meaning everybody was asleep.

I flew up into Nes' hollow. Yes, she had her own hollow now.

I walked up to her and nuzzled her getting her to wake up.

"Kludd", she said groggily. "What are you doing here?"

"I have something to tell you", I revealed. "But you're not going to like it." [Forever Brothers Extra: Huh?]

"What", Nes asked how wide awake. "Why. What's going on Kludd?"

With that I took a deep breath...and told Nes what I wanted to do.

"I'm going to tell the king that I was sent here by Nyra." [Forever Brothers Extra: (does spit take) What?!]

"What", Nes asked in shock.

"Don't worry", I reassured. "I won't say anything about you. Your secret's safe with me."

"But why are you going to turn yourself in", Nes asked.

"I don't want to be a Pure One anymore Nes. Soren, Willow, my family. They were all kind towards me even after what I did. My sister forgave me even after I kidnapped and moonblinked her! My brother stood up for me even after I tried to kill him!"

Tears were now streaming down my eyes.

"I betrayed them once before Nes", I pointed out. "I won't betray them again."

When I was done...Nes started crying!

"Please don't cry Nes", I pleaded.

Then...she said something that shocked me.

"I don't want to be a Pure One either!" [Forever Brothers Extra: (does spit take again) What?!]

"What", I asked in shock.

"I never wanted to be a Pure One", Nes revealed. "But I was scared that my mother would do something terrible to me if I didn't listen to her!"

With that...I placed my forehead against Nes'.

"I won't let your mother do anything to you Nes. I promise."

"I'll protect you too Kludd. I promise."

With that I took my forehead off of Vanessa's...and held out something I've been wanting to give her for a while.

It was...the stone I got from the cave. [Forever Brothers Extra: Read Chapter 15 to see when Kludd got that stone.]

"I wanted to give this to you on the Day of Confessions", I revealed. "But then I found out about your anxiety disorder and never got around to doing it." [Forever Brothers Extra: Read Chapter 17 to see what Kludd's talking about.]

"You know", Nes started. "That anxiety disorder may make me a hard to live with mate."

"I know...and I don't care. All I care about is you and me together as one. So, what do you say. Will you be my mate for life."

Nes didn't even take a second to reply.

"Yes."
