Chapter 2- Strange Headaches

Laura's eyes welled with tears as Lucky, Sarah, and the kids stepped into the waiting area at the airport. Lorenzo was now as tall as she was and was the spitting image of Lucky when he was fifteen. Anastasia was tall and slim like her mother with brown hair below her shoulders. Wearing two-inch heels at thirteen made Laura wonder what kind of an influence Sarah has had on her.

"Oh, it's so good to see you!" Laura beamed and wrapped her arms around Lucky. "I've missed you so much."

"I've missed you too, Mom," Lucky said.

Kevin shook Lucky's hand. "How are you?"

"Good. Good," Lucky said.

Laura turned to her grandchildren and placed a hand over her mouth. "You've grown so much. Come here." She hugged them both tightly, then turned to Sarah. "How are you?"

"Hello, Laura," Sarah said. "We've been good. It's been a while since we've visited. It's very good to see you."

"Shall we grab some snacks from the gift shop for the drive home?" Kevin suggested.

"As long as they're sugar free, gluten free, and vegan-friendly," Sarah said.

Laura nodded and held Anastasia's hand. "Let's got see what the gift shop has to offer."

"Let's wait out here, Lucky." Sarah rubbed her forehead. "I have a headache."

"Oh dear, we'll get you some Tylenol from the gift shop," Laura said. As she turned, Stavros Cassadine stepped into the waiting area and walked past them without a word. "Stavros was on your flight?"

"Oh yeah, he was at the back of the plane," Lucky said. "I was surprised. They own their own jets. I would expect him to at least fly first class."

"That is strange," Laura commented.

As Kevin, Laura, and their grandchildren stepped into the gift shop, Sarah groaned. "Your mother is so two-faced."

Lucky frowned. "She's trying to get along with you."

"Trying isn't enough." She pressed her palm against her temple.

In the gift shop, Lorenzo stared at the chocolate bars. He looked over at the cash register where the lady was talking to another customer and reached out and slipped a KitKat into his pocket.

"Are you planning on paying for that?" Kevin walked up to him.

"Nope, and you can't make me," Lorenzo said before walking back out to his parents.

Kevin sighed and walked over to the cash register. "I'd like to pay for a KitKat for my grandson."

"You kids probably haven't seen snow since you were little," Laura said to Anastasia while they looked at keychains.

"We had flurries one year," Anastasia said.

"That's nice. But Houston usually stays warm most of the year." Laura cleared her throat. "Do you see anything you'd like?"

"That's okay, Grandma," Anastasia said. "I'm just so happy to see you again."

Laura smiled and wrapped an arm around her. "Me too. I've missed you so much."

"And then we knot it just like that!" Patrick smiled as he finished tying the sling for Violet's arm. "It'll be better in no time at all."

He handed her a red sucker and she blushed.

"Thanks Patrick," Hayden said. "We weren't expecting all that snow and when she slipped on our porch…"

"It can happen to anyone," Patrick said. "Emma broke her ankle a couple years ago and she's fine now."

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Patrick pulled out his pager from his white coat. "I have to go. Feel better soon, Violet." He hurried out of the room.

"Well, Honeybun, should we go home to Daddy before he goes to work?"

Violet's eyes grew wide. "You mean, I don't have to go to thcool?"

Hayden shrugged. "It's almost lunch time already. There's no point. Let's rest up before we go to Kelly's later."

"Aiden and Jake will be there?" Violet asked.

Hayden nodded. "And Cam, and your cousins from Houston."

"What about Daddy?"

"Daddy will be working. But we can spend some time with him before he goes in."

Patrick entered the ER with Elizabeth as a stretcher burst through the doors carrying an unconscious Tracy with a panicked Luke at her side.

"You, Drake! Get over here!" Luke shouted across the room. "You need to help my wife!"

Patrick hurried over and began shining a flashlight at Tracy's eyes. "What happened?"

Elizabeth began checking her vitals.

"She was complaining of headaches this morning. We thought it was just from the weather. But then she had a seizure twenty minutes ago!"

"Does she have a history of seizures?" Elizabeth asked.

"A few years ago, when she had worms in her brain. But that was from food poisoning in Mexico."

"All right, let's get her to a room, then send her for a CT scan," Patrick said.

"A little to the right," Nina said, tilting her head to the side while Alfred moved a portrait of herself, Valentin, Nelle, and Charlotte.

"How is this, lady Nina?"

"A little further…"

"This is outrageous!" Helena appeared in the doorway clenching her fists at her sides. "Of all the ostentatious endeavours I have every seen in my life. To hang a portrait of an illegitimate line of this dear family in my late Mikkos' office."

"Do you think it's centred all right?" Nina asked her. "I still think it needs to move further right."

"Alfred," Helena gritted her teeth. "I insist you take down this horrid display immediately or you will need to find new employment."

Alfred slowly lowered the portrait.

Nina set her hands on her hips. "This is my family you're talking about. And once Valentin is back from his business trip, he will not be pleased you're treating me this way. We are Cassadines too."

"Oh, my dear, you and that cowardly husband of yours are the furthest things from Cassadines. And mark my words, once I'm through with Valentin all four of you will be blotted out."

Nina scrunched her face. "What do you mean once you're through with Valentin?"

Helena glared at her. "I will not have you spoiling up this castle. It's enough that you eat at the same table as my dear Spencer. He is the true heir and the only hope for this family."

"You don't like Emily either, so why are you so hard on me?"

"Emily bore us Spencer, and it is my hope she will bring forth another heir. But you…" She eyed her up and down. "I have no use for a jezebel like yourself."

"A jezebel!? Listen here, lady… I happen to run a top of the line fashion magazine—"

"Your company would be bankrupt without Jasper Jacks and Maxie Jones helping you to run it. Not to mention Valentin's constant imbursing of your comic book with Cassadine money."

"He donated money once and that was for a charity we were hosting."

"That charity was nothing more than proving how Woke you are to the world." Helena crossed her arms. "I'm not as behind in the times as you might think."

"Hosting a charity did much better for the world than you ever will in your lifetime."

"Just mark my words, you won't be here much longer."

Nina raised an eyebrow. "You've been threatening me ever since I married Valentin. You didn't get rid of me then and you won't get rid of me now."

"Just watch your back and stay away from Spencer." Helena hurried out of the office.

Nina walked over to her family portrait and hung it back up.

Jason knocked on the open door to Anna's office. "You paged me?"

Anna looked over her laptop and cleared her throat. "There's been suspicious activity on the stock market. The Sodium Cyanide Market has gone bankrupt."

"Have they been losing money all along?"

Anna shook her head. "They were doing fine a week ago, but it dropped completely only yesterday."

"That's odd."

"I just spoke to the CEO of Cyanco," Anna said. "They were robbed Sunday evening and their shelves are empty. They need us to go investigate."

"But that's in Texas."

Anna nodded. "The Bureau is paying for our hotel rooms. We'll probably be there for about a week."

Jason ran his hand through his hair. "I promised the boys we'd play pool on Friday."

"Jason, I know the travel part of this job is hard. But we haven't had to leave the state of New York in almost two years. We've been very lucky."

"You're right. I'm sure they'll understand."

"Hey, Babe," Drew said as he sat on Sam's desk in her office.

"Hey."

He kissed her gently. "What's wrong?"

"I'm worried about Willow. Nelle is bullying her again."

He sighed. "What did she say this time?"

"She's mad at Willow because she and Michael are partners for a project."

He scrunched his face. "Are Nelle and Michael even dating?"

"No. She just wants to date him. And I think Willow does too."

His eyes grew wide. "She wants to start dating? She's still so young. That's why it didn't sit well with my that she was approved to take classes with the older grades."

"I wouldn't even worry about that. She's scared to stand up to Nelle, so I don't think she'll go out with Michael. She doesn't want to make Nelle more angry with her. She doesn't want to lose her as a friend."

Drew slammed his hand against his forehead. "Why does she still want to be friends with her?"

"Well, they grew up together with Sasha and Krissy. Didn't you ever have that friend that was so horrible to you, but you wanted to stay friends anyway?"

"Not really."

"She didn't even want me to speak to Nina about it. I'm really worried about her. She won't stand up for herself. I don't know why."

"I think one day she'll get the nerve to defend herself. It's in her blood."

"I hope you're right."

Willow opened her locker door and pulled out her history textbook.

"Hey, Willow!" Michael walked over and leaned against the lockers. "How's your day going?"

Willow blushed a little. "Good so far. I love math class."

He nodded. "Math is fun."

"I still think it's really cool how you're taking Grade 12 math and science. You're super smart. It's been great having you in our science class."

She hugged her textbook against her chest. "Math and science are my favourite subjects."

"Hi Michael. Hi Willow." Nelle's voice announced her presence.

"Hey Nelle," Michael said.

Willow's heart sped up and she forced a smile.

"I didn't expect snow today," Nelle said. "And I have to walk to the launch today. All alone in the wet snow."

"Oh gee, that's gotta be rough," Michael said.

"You don't suppose you could walk me there? Make sure no one attacks me along the way."

Willow frowned.

Michael shrugged. "Oh uh, I guess I could do that."

Nelle grinned. "Great, I'll meet you at your locker after school."

He nodded. "Well, I better get to English class." He smiled at Willow. "I'll see you in science class." He headed down the hallway.

Nelle smiled as she watched him leave. "I better call my chauffeur. Tell him I don't need to be picked up today."

Willow swallowed hard.

Nelle turned to her and gripped the locker door. "I'm proud of you, Willow. You stood there silently while my future boyfriend and I made plans." She clenched her jaw. "You better keep that up if you know what's good for you!" She pushed the door hard against Willow's face.

Willow threw her hand over her already bruising nose and started to tear up.

"Oops," Nelle said in mock concern. "You better watch where you're walking. You might hurt yourself. I'll see you in History." She flipped her hair and walked jauntily down the hallway.

"Don't you think we should give Joss another chance?" Emma asked Molly in gym class.

Molly rubbed her temples with her fingers. "I just don't like the way she talked about my mom!"

"I know they were pretty nasty things."

"Only way I'll play with her again is if she apologizes and says she didn't mean it," Molly said. "I mean, I do miss planning our future weddings with her."

"And trying to set up Cam with your sister."

"Do you smell something weird?" Molly asked.

Emma raised an eyebrow. "No…"

"All right, class," Mrs. Newsome spoke loudly. "I'm going to break you off into pairs. Jake and Emma, Morgan and Molly, Spencer and Abby… One of you grab a ball, now."

Molly walked over to the pile of blurry red balls. She reached out and almost missed one, but finally picked it up.

"Now, we'll start off by throwing—"

Molly suddenly dropped to the floor convulsing and the ball rolled over to Morgan.
