Seriously. That's it?! A "K" in green writing?!
The divine beauty stared down at the intricate writing on her wrist with her piercing blue eyes as if there was some sort of secret code in it. She had an irritating desire of wanting to know who her soulmate was, that it was driving her to the brink of insanity. She needed to know who her soulmate was so she could stop driving herself mad and bring her focus back to school.
Astrid felt a nudge and looked to her right to see her best friend Heather. The raven-haired girl nudged her head towards their anatomy teacher, Mrs. Ack, writing on the board. Astrid mouthed a thank you to her good friend and immediately wrote down the notes from the board. She wanted to focus, she really did, but her mind kept on trailing back to the letter on her wrist. She heard things about these kinds of situations.
Everyone had a different way of finding out who their soulmate was. For her grandparents, they were colorblind until they laid eyes on one another. For her parents, they had their names on each others' wrists but for her, it just had to be the last letter in her soulmate's last name. Her grandmother said that Astrid's soulmate charm was incredibly rare, that not even a thousand people had it in the world. Her grandmother told her since it was highly rare, her soulmate must've been someone really special. She also said that whatever color writing it was in happened to be the soulmate's eye color. So whoever her soulmate was had green eyes. Well, she always had a love for the color green.
"Miss Hofferson? Are you still with us?"
Astrid blinked and looked at the teacher, continuing to write as fast as she could.
"Yes, I'm sorry ma'am."
"Good. Now can you please tell me what the pectineus is?"
"The pectineus is a muscle on the upper front and inner aspect of the thigh."
"Very good, Miss Hofferson." Mrs. Ack looked at the class before putting her focus back on the board. "You could all learn a thing or two from her. Even when she isn't paying attention, she remains the sharpest."
Astrid caught a glare from Snotlout Jorgenson, jealous of her knowledge. The fierce blonde flipped off the greasy haired jock then brought her focus back to her class.
Astrid closed her locker door to see her best friend leaning against a locker with an odd look on her face. Astrid rose a brow at the unusual expression on her good friend's face.
"What, Heather?"
"You've been acting weird lately?" The raven-haired girl looked her friend up and down, trying to spot what it could be. "You never get distracted in classes, especially anatomy. It gives you ideas on where to punch Snotlout if he ever hits on you again."
"I know. It's just something that happened a couple of nights ago." Astrid looked down at her textbooks as she spoke. She looked up at the confused contortion of her friend's face. Heather's jade green eyes widened as she came to a realization.
"Oh, my Thor. You got your soulmate charm!" Heather exclaimed in excitement, causing it to echo through the school halls. Astrid's cheeks flushed and before Heather could let out another squeal, Astrid covered the fangirl's mouth. When Heather's squeal stopped echoing, Astrid uncovered the girl's mouth and walked off. Heather followed her friend as they strolled through the school's crummy halls.
"Yes, I did happen to get my soulmate charm. It's not a big deal."
"Astrid, getting a soulmate charm is huge! It's how the universe tells you who is your true love. Wow, now that I'm hearing it I sound like a fricking Disney narrator."
Astrid snorted at her friend's last remark. Heather was indeed a softy when it came to love, too bad it never was kind to her.
"Yes, you for sure do. Luckily, you didn't say it in front of Eret. He would've teased you the rest of the week."
"Pff! Eretson knows better than to mess with me. He knows I could beat his ass with one swing!"
"Oh, you for sure are highly intimidating Berserk." The girls turned around to see a bulky young man who was about seven inches taller than both of the girls. His amber brown eyes piercing down at the two girls with a playful smirk on his face. Heather scoffed at the sight of the man while Astrid smirked.
"Well, speak of the devil."
"Yes, I know. I'm rather a dashing one. Don't you think so, Heather?" Eret leaned down towards the raven-haired girl. Heather rolled her striking green eyes at the cocky man and let out a soft scoff.
"If you say so, Eretson."
Astrid smiled at her two friends' quirky remarks. She knew Heather since they were in eighth grade but the two girls met Eret in their freshman year. The young man had just moved from Sweden to their lovely little town Berk when he met the girls. Eret was athletic, overconfident, and charming. He was the kind of man the football players wanted on their team. That was until they found out of his attraction to both men and women, then they treated him as if he didn't exist. Luckily, he met the blonde spitfire and the sly brunette who welcomed him with open arms. Some thought the trio's closeness was odd but they just really related to one another. They were all warriors at heart and had tough skin. Also, the girls enjoyed the fact Eret allowed them to braid his hair.
"Now what are you two missies jabbering about?" Eret asked as they walked through the halls. Astrid was walking ahead of the two, silently wishing that it wasn't lunch period.
"Oh, a wonderful thing happened, Eretson. Our dear Hofferson got her soulmate charm."
"Wow! Congrats, Hoff!" Eret ran up to the fierce blonde and wrapped an arm around the girl, giving her a noogie. Astrid rolled her eyes and pushed the burly boy off of her.
"Guys, seriously, it's not a big deal. I don't even know who it is!"
"Well, your charm could give a hint to who it is. Let us see!" Heather exclaimed.
"I'm not gonna show it to you. If I need someone to ask about it, I'll ask my grandmother. She practically studies soulmate charms. Look, I'm gonna go study for the test that's coming up. I'll see you guys later."
Astrid walked away from her friends, leaving them dazed and confused. She hated shutting them out but this whole soulmate thing was freaking her out. She hadn't even turned 17 yet and she already had her soulmate charm. She had so many questions surrounding her.
Why now? I just started junior year, they're already giving me a crap ton of homework, and now I gotta figure out who the hell my soulmate is! The only living being I can remember that has green eyes and a "K" is... NO! No, it can't be Heather! I love her but as a sister! Wait, if she is my soulmate, does she already know? That's why she was so excited for me because she knew it was her! Thor, how am I gonna tell her? I can't hurt her, she just went through a breakup with Atali. If I tell her, I could lose my best friend! Gods, this is a mess...
Astrid ran into the school library, and right up to the school librarian.
"Where are the soulmate books?"
"In the back, near the lounge area."
Astrid thanked the librarian and headed straight towards the back. She grabbed as many books as she could in her toned arms and sprawled the books across the coffee table. Little did she know, someone else was looking up soulmate research as well. And that person had an "N" in blue writing on their wrist.
Okay, so I'm gonna be honest. I'm a bit rusty when it comes to writing since I haven't written in months and I'm still getting used to this website. But anyway, who do you think Astrid's soulmate is and what do you think of the story so far?
