RPOV

Three days had gone by, though it had felt more like months, and there was little to no improvement. She hadn't gotten any worse, but the healing that we were counting on had yet to kick in, and we had figured out why. The night we brought her in, I came across several bags of her blood that had been removed, and realized they had probably removed her wolf 'mojo' along with her blood.

We were able to infuse it back into her, but it still hadn't helped her wake up. Her temperature had come back up, but she still remained unconscious. Jake hadn't left her side once.

I hurt for him, well both of them. Just thinking about everything they had both been put through, knowing they had done nothing to deserve it, but just been the victims of circumstance, it was so incredibly unfair. It hit a little too close to home for me, and I struggled to think of anything I could do that might be able to help.

I finally excused myself and went out away from the house where he couldn't hear me to make a call I was really hoping I wouldn't have to make.

"Jasper? Hey, it's Rose."

"Rosie! How have you been?"

I was shocked silent for a moment before I continued. I figured he would have had some idea due to Alice, but he was a little too cheery for that.

"Seriously? You're telling me Alice didn't see any of this?"

"Wait, what? What's going on?"

I explained everything that had been going on since they had left, and needless to say he was less than pleased.

"Let me call you back." He growled out over the phone, just before disconnecting.

I winced at the thought of him screaming at Alice, but I didn't feel too bad, certainly she must have seen what was going on, why would she keep it from Jasper? Knowing him, he could have ended this all before it started. Honestly I don't know why he didn't just end it in the first place instead of leaving. Probably like the rest of, he was just completely shell shocked from watching the people we had considered our family for so long, turn into the monsters that we strived to separate ourselves from.

Emmett was waiting for me outside the house when I returned. I couldn't remember the last time one of those stupid, goofy grins had shown up on his face, and I missed them so much.

"Hey babe." He said as he wrapped me up in a hug.

"Hey. I called Jasper, I figure we need as much help as we can get." I explained. "Alice hadn't told him a thing, he isn't very happy of course. I'm sure she's getting an earful as we speak."

Emmett snorted.

"That would be a first. So she didn't say anything to him? Are you sure?"

"Definitely. He had no idea, and was more than pissed when I told him."

"There's not much he can do now, we've pretty much taken care of everything."

"I wasn't really calling for him necessarily, I was wanting to know if Alice could see anything about Bella."

"It doesn't make any sense though." He said, scrunching his forehead. "Why would she keep it from him? Why wouldn't she want to help?"

I just shrugged my shoulders. I had been wondering the same thing.

"No idea. Unless she really didn't see it for some reason."

"Yeah right, Alice sees everything." He said sardonically. "You couldn't piss in a pot without her knowing. Well, not so much us, but you know what I mean. Anyway, how could she not see? We're all involved, she should be able to see everything. Besides, she was seeing everything about Bella before she even met her."

"She was seeing Edward. She saw Bella through Edward." I corrected him.

"Oh, yeah." He said, running a hand through his hair roughly.

"You think she was working with them?" I wondered aloud.

"No way. Could you really see her doing that?"

"I couldn't see any of them doing that! That's the problem!" I unintentionally raised my voice to him. "How do we know we can trust them? Any of them? If someone like Carlisle can change like that, then I don't know that I can trust anyone anymore!"

I felt that familiar pressure in my head, the one I always felt when I needed to cry, but wasn't able to. Emmett pulled me back to him, hugging me tightly to his chest, softly shushing me. I held onto him tightly, burying my face into and inhaled his scent to calm myself.

"I'm so sorry Rose." He whispered in my hair. "I'm sorry all this is happening to us. I'm sorry everything is falling apart. But I promise, I won't ever let anything happen to you. No matter what, I will always protect you."

"You better." I said with a shaky voice, and leaned back to look him in the eyes. "I'd hate to have to kick your ass." I said with a smirk. I was rewarded with one of his bright smiles that warmed me from the inside out.

"I love you Rosie."

"I love you too."

He bent down and kissed my lips sweetly before resting his forehead against mine.

"Do you think she'll be ok to transport?" He asked, changing the subject.

"Yeah, I think she'll be fine, her vitals all seem stable from the little bit that I can tell, she's just unconscious really. What scares me is that I don't know why."

"And Rachel is sure she knows where to take her?"

"Yeah, same place she took Angela. And Angela has already laid the foundation for the reason we show up with Bella."

The evening we got to Bella, Rachel had gotten Angela away from everything quickly, and flew her to the closest hospital, which really wasn't that close at all. Rachel had helped Angela into the ER, stating that she had seen her walking down the road, and knew she was in trouble just by looking at her. Forks PD had put out an APB when she had gone missing, so the local PD was able to identify her quickly.

Because of the supernatural circumstances, she claimed to not remember anything about the kidnappers, except that she knew they had Bella too, and the two had become separated when they escaped. We knew the police were out searching for Bella, but we knew they weren't anywhere close to us to find us. We were nearly 120 miles away, the very definition of 'middle of nowhere'.

"Jake's a little hesitant on the idea." I added. "Right now he's scared any little thing will hurt or kill her."

"Yeah, I can understand that. With everything those two have been through, I would be scared too."

"Well, we need to get going, it's still a little warm, I don't want it to be too cold on her while we're running, but we can't protect her from it either, since she's supposed to have been exposed to the elements and all."

Emmett nodded and turned toward the house. Jacob was waiting for us when we came back up to the room. He stood quickly as we walked in.

"Her eyes have been fluttering." He said anxiously. "What does that mean?"

"Brain activity." I said, smiling. "That's definitely a good thing."

Jacob closed his eyes and sighed in relief, dropping back down beside Bella.

"Thank God." He said quietly.

"Jake, I think it would be good to see if we can get her to the hospital now. Now that we know she isn't exhibiting any werewolf weirdness, she really does need a better setup than this. She needs real doctors that know what they're doing, she needs-"

"Yeah, I get it." Jake said weakly. "I was just waiting, hoping she would come out of it on her own. Waiting to see if we were still connected. But we're not." He dropped his head and shuddered.

"Oh Jake…." My heart broke for him.

"I tried," he said, his voice breaking as he fought the tears. "I tried to get back to her, through our dreams. She wasn't there. I couldn't get to her, and I tried to call her to me, but there was nothing." He looked up at me with the deepest sadness I had ever seen, tears trailing down his cheeks. "I can't live without her. I need her more than I've ever needed anything in my life. In my world, there is nothing without her, she is my world." He grasped roughly as his chest. "I can feel that pain, the pull, that same pull that lead me here, but it's not pulling anywhere, and I'm so scared it's pulling because she's….." He couldn't finish before he broke down, shuddering and sobbing. I couldn't help it, and went immediately to comfort him. And he surprisingly let me.

"What the hell, Black!"

I turned swiftly to see Leah standing behind Emmett, a disgusted look on her face.

"Leah, not now." I warned, but she didn't pay me any mind.

"What the hell is wrong with you? Did you accidentally throw your balls into the fire when you guys torched that son of a bitch? Time to get up and man up."

"Go to hell Leah." Jake said gruffly as he straightened himself up and wiped his face.

"Pretty sure we're already here, cupcake!" She yelled out, spreading her arms out to the sides. "Now get your pansy ass up, and let's get her to the hospital." I looked over to Jacob, and he had his eyes narrowed at her. but I had to admit, he did look better. Leah sure knew how to get under people's skin, and always seemed to do it at the right time.

And that's when I realized I actually liked the girl.

"Just know that when this is over, I'm kicking your ass six ways to Sunday." He growled out at her as he pushed past.

"Yeah, fine whatever, let's go!"

The Quileutes gathered around the front of the house while we explained what was going to happen. Emmett and I would carry Bella, and run her to the hospital through the woods. We needed her cold, all scratched up, and with ripped clothing when we brought her into the ER. She had to look like she'd been wandering the woods for days.

Jake of course didn't like this at all, but understood the necessity for it.

He was following close behind, with the rest of the wolves flanked out to the side and rear, making sure there were no vamp stragglers left behind to take us by surprise, although they had been running the perimeter this whole time and not caught anything. I was still curious as to where Esme was during all this, but I just hoped she had somehow come to her senses and abandoned Carlisle and Edward.

It took us a little less than an hour to get Bella to the hospital. Jacob had stayed right with us, and gave a whine every time he scented her blood from a fresh cut. Sam borrowed Emmetts clothes, which they both complained about, and carried her in, claiming to find her while he and some friends were hiking in the woods. Unfortunately we had to wait awhile before going in to see her, since no one was supposed to know she was here. We had to wait for her to be positively ID'd by the police, which didn't take as long as I thought it would, thanks to Angela. Thirty minutes later we were able to get in contact with Billy, and he said the PD had already called him and informed him about Bella being up here. It was still another three hours before we could actually go in, since that's how long it would take to get a flight out here. We wanted to be sure we weren't raising any suspicion whatsoever, and if it hadn't been for Rachel already being in there, keeping an eye out for her in our place, I'm pretty sure Jake would have exploded.

In the meantime, I went out and found Jake and Emmett some clothes so we could go in and stay with her.

Just a few minutes shy of going in, Jasper finally called me back.

"Alice said she had no idea, and she's being completely honest. She did admit to not telling me about things a while back, but she said she was under the impression that Bella was dead, and that happened months ago."

"What? Why? What happened?"

"She doesn't know, she said she never really saw her, just Edward and what he was doing with her. But then those visions suddenly stopped, so she figured something happened to her."

"Well I really appreciate her concern for the situation." I snapped back angrily.

"I don't think she meant anything by it, she said she had multiple visions of me getting involved, which apparently would draw in the Volturi, so to her, Bella's death was a relief. I still wish she would have told me, there could have been other ways to deal with it, but there's nothing we can do now."

"Well what about Edward and Carlisle, certainly she was having visions of them."

"Only sporadically, and she never really saw Bella in them. She said she would see someone, but no one that looked like Bella."

I was getting angry that Alice would see Angela, and still not try to do something. I understood her concern for Jasper, but who knows what Angela had to endure while she was there. And Alice could have stopped it!

"Damn it Jasper, this is ridiculous. Well what does she see now?"

He sighed in defeat.

"Nothing. She still can't see anything. And apparently doesn't even see the two of you. That's what I'm saying, she had no idea any of this was going on. But there is someone she has seen, though she isn't sure what to make of it."

"Esme?"

"Esme. She saw her boarding a plane for Europe, but no decision of where to. The plane's destination right now is London, but that's all."

"So we don't even know if Esme knows about Edward and Carlisle. I don't like not knowing."

"You think she left them?"

"I hope so, I hope she came to her senses."

"I don't know, last time I was around her, she was emanating the same kind of dark emotions the other two were. Well, Carlisle at least. I hate to say it, but he was truly sick in all this."

"And Edward wasn't?"

"Edward became obsessed, and obsession can cloud your judgement to the point of complete obscurity. Carlisle should have been the one to rein him in, he should have been the sane one. Instead he just added fuel to an already out of control fire. I still have yet to figure out what was in it for him."

"You don't think that he was just obsessed with his son's happiness?"

"No, there was some definite selfishness there."

"Wow. You think he always had this streak in him? Was he just really good at hiding it?"

"Knowing how long he was a part of the inner circle of the Volturi, I wouldn't put it past him. There could be a lot of stuff that we never knew."

"Eww, that gives me the creeps."

"Yeah, tell me about it. So anyway, do you need us to come up there? It sounds like you guys have everything under control. "

"Yeah, we're good for now. But please keep me posted if something shows up with Alice."

"Absolutely. I hope everything gets better for Bella. Maybe she can have a normal life now that Edward is gone."

"I don't know how normal it could be, she's mated to a werewolf after all, not to mention she's got a vampire for an uncle."

"That girl ain't got a chance."

"Agreed."

"Alright sis, take care, tell Emmett I said hey."

As soon as I got off the phone, Jacob was already heading toward the hospital entrance, Emmett following close behind.

The face of the ER receptionist when she saw the two men walk in was comical, and I very nearly laughed out loud at her. It's easy for me to forget how both beautiful and intimidating my husband is, and I'm sure other people think the same about Jacob. So seeing them side by side, and looking as determined as they did, I'm sure was enough to cause a few palpitations.

"Que puis-je faire pour vous?" The receptionist asked, after finally finding her voice. Jacob's eyes went wide and looked to Emmett, as he was not expecting anything other than english to be spoken.

"Salut, je suis à la recherche pour ma soeur, Bella Swan" Emmett said smoothly. The girl's eyes widened.

"Oh mon Dieu, oui! Nous espérions sa famille se présenteraient . Suis-moi s'il te plait!" She said excitedly, and jumped up to lead us back into the main part of the hospital.

"What was that?" Jacob whispered to me as we followed behind Emmett.

"I think they refer to that as the french language." I said sarcastically. He narrowed his eyes at me.

"Yeah, I got that part, thanks. What did they say?"

"She asked if she could help us, Emmett said we were looking for his sister, and she actually seemed excited that some family had shown up, and she's taking us there now."

We followed her down a couple corridors to an elevator, we then took to the fifth floor, and down another hall, to a room where a doctor and several officers were standing outside.

"Elle est ici, monsieur, s'il vous plaît laissez -moi savoir s'il y a quelque chose que je peux faire pour vous." The girl said with a smile.

"Translation?" Jacob whispered.

"Here you are sir, please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you." I said, staring at the girl until she left.

Emmett stepped up to the doctor and officers and introduced himself as Bella's brother, and Jacob as her fiance, which made Jake smile when I translated that part to him. Emmett nodded for us to go on in while he stayed out in the hall to continue talking to the other men. When we went in, there was a female nurse switching out her IV.

"English?" She asked looking at us.

"Yes." I said with a smile.

"Oh good, all that french gives me a headache." She said sounding relieved.

"Yeah, me too." Jacob said. "So how is she?"

"Stable. Very dehydrated, although she's absorbing the fluids well, so it shouldn't take long to get past that. She has what looks like a gunshot wound to the leg, but it looks to be a couple weeks old, and has already healed up for the most part. Other than that, just some superficial cuts and bruises, no broken bones. Now we just wait for her to wake up." She said, looking back down at Bella.

Emmett walked in as the nurse excused herself from the room.

"Did the doctor have anything more to say?" Jacob asked, knowing he would have heard what the nurse already told us."

"Yeah, they sent her down for an MRI and CT already, and he had just got the results. Everything seemed normal, no brain damage. He thinks she's just sleeping off the effects of the trauma she's been through."

We all just sat in silence after that, watching the monitors that she remained hooked up to.

I was woken from a deep dreamless sleep by snoring right by my head, and what felt like a heating blanket pushed up against me. I tried stretching and rolling away, and when that didn't help, I jabbed him with my my elbow.

"Huh...wha….Bella?"

"You're snoring." I grumbled, trying to get comfortable again, but failing.

"Bells, thank God! You're awake!"

I finally opened my eyes, wondering what he was talking about and saw that we weren't in his bed like I thought we were, but laying in a hospital bed. I jerked to sit up but he caught me before I could.

"Easy Bells, don't freak out on me, ok?"

"What….what happened?" I croaked out. I looked to the other side of me, and saw Emmett standing there with a cup of water offered to me. I gladly took it and drank it down quickly. I couldn't believe how thirsty I was. And my body felt incredibly heavy and lethargic.

"Bella, do you remember what happened? Do you remember how you got hurt?"

I sat there trying to think, but just shook my head. Everything was just a jumble, and trying to make sense of it all just made it worse.

"Sweetie, what do you remember?" Emmett asked softly, sitting down beside the bed.

"About what? What happened?" I asked.

Before he could say anything, the room lit up brightly, and a doctor and a couple of nurses walked in, followed by Rosalie.

"Ah, Mme Isabella, il est si bon de voir que vous réveillez enfin . Dites-moi, comment vous sentez-vous?"

I just looked at him, I was pretty sure he said my name somewhere in there, but that was all I caught. I looked over to Jake and he had the same blank look that I had, and just shrugged his shoulders at me.

"Oh, je suis désolé monsieur, ma sœur ne parle que l'anglais."

"My apologies." The doctor said in a heavy accent. "Now, Miss Isabella, how are you feeling?"

"Umm, confused?" I answered hesitantly.

"Elle dit qu'elle ne se souvient de rien." Emmett said. I looked over at him and glared.

"English? " I whispered. He gave me a small smile.

"Sorry. I just told him you didn't remember anything."

"Miss Isabella, you-"

"Please, just call me Bella." I answered, more irritated sounding than I meant to be.

"Oh, my apologies. Bella, you say you do not recall anything?"

"No." I shook my head.

"But these people, you recognize them, no?"

"Oh, well yeah! Jake, Rosalie, and Emmett."

"And their relationship with you?"

I felt Jake tense slightly, and noticed Rosalie's eyes fixate on mine."

"My family." I said with a smile.

Jake relaxed and Rosalie sent me a small smile.

"Well, it looks like you have retained long term memory then. It's possible that the trauma has caused you to have short term loss, but I'm sure that you will regain it over time. Bella, there are some officers outside that would like to speak with you if you are feeling up to it."

Jake immediately spoke up.

"Sir, she just woke up, does she have to go over all this right now?" I could tell he was struggling to be calm.

"Besides, what good would it do if she can't remember anything?" Emmett countered. The doctor gave them both strange looks as he stood slowly.

"Actually guys, I'm fine." I said, looking between them both. "Yes, that's fine." I said turning back to the doctor. "As long as I can get some more water."

The doctor smiled, relaxing his shoulders, and said something that sound like a 'thank you', and hurried out of the room.

"You do realize you both made it look like you were trying to hide something, right?" Rosalie whispered, rolling her eyes at the two boys who had flanked each side of the bed.

"What are you talking about? She just woke up, let's give her time to adjust before throwing her under interrogation." Jake defended.

"Which won't do any good, she can't remember anything anyway!" Emmett jumped in, backing up Jake. Rosalie just rolled her eyes, muttering something about idiots. Everyone quieted quickly when a knock came to the door. Two officers walked in at our acknowledgment. The first had dark hair and looked to be about in his thirties. He reminded me a little of Dad, but then again, anyone in a police uniform usually did. I went to look at the second one and froze. All I saw was tall, thin, and pale, and all my memories came screaming back. I remembered everything, everything that I didn't want to remember. The next thing I knew, there was a bright light shining in my eyes, and I jerked my head to get away from it.

"Oh thank God." I heard Emmett mumble from my left, as Jacob hugged me to him on my right. The doctor was sitting on the bed, and was putting his little flashlight back in his pocket.

"I told you she wasn't ready!" Jake said angrily. I looked up and he was glaring at the doctor, who effectively just ignored him.

"How are feeling now, Mrs Swan?" He asked.

"I…..I don't know."

And it was true. I didn't know what had just happened, I was still trying to cope with the horrible things I just remembered happening to me, although the memories seemed much farther away from me now than they did just about 30 seconds ago. Almost like waking up from a bad dream.

"I think you just need some rest right now, I will see if they can just come back another time." The doctor said as he rose to walk out. Rosalie followed him out, and as soon as the door shut, I turned to Jacob.

"Please Jake, I just want to go home." I couldn't stop my tears as I gripped him tightly. "I remembered, I remember everything, I just want to go home, please!"

He crushed me to him as I sobbed uncontrollably. My emotions were all over the place, and I just wanted to be somewhere familiar, somewhere far away from everything. I wanted to go back to my sanctuary.

"Ssh baby, don't worry. I'll take care of it. We'll get you out of here." He whispered into my hair. Just hearing his words helped calm my nerves a bit. After my breathing slowed a bit, I heard the door open then close, signaling Rosalie's return.

"Ok, well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is the police agreed to talk with Bella via phone as long as the doctor is in the room with her. They just want to make sure she isn't being manipulated in any way." She said, pointedly looking at Jake and Emmett.

"And the bad news?" Jake said, still holding onto me.

"They won't let her go yet."

"What?" Both Jacob and Emmett yelled at once. I just pushed myself more into Jacob, burying my face in his chest.

"We just witnessed her go into a state of complete shock that took a good twenty minutes to get her to come out of. It's not like a panic attack, it's very serious, and until they are sure it won't happen again, they won't-"

"They can't just keep her here! She has the right to leave if she wants, right? She's over eighteen, she has the right to leave!" Jacob was sounding desperate, and I realized my feelings had probably been affecting him. I took a deep breath and slowly pulled away from him.

"It's fine Jake, I do need to make sure I'm better before I leave." I said as firm as I could. I looked over at Rosalie. "So we just have to wait until I don't go into shock randomly?" She looked at me funny.

"Bella, that wasn't random. One of the guys that came in here resembled Edward."

I shivered at the thought of seeing him again.

"So I guess I really freaked out." I said, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"No, I would have actually preferred that." Jake answered for her. I turned to face him. "You just completely zoned out. Like you weren't even here anymore."

"Yeah, it was weird, it was like you passed out, but your eyes were completely wide open." Emmett finished.

I didn't really know what to say, so I just pulled Jake back to me, and let the silence fall around us. It was a few minutes later that the nurse came in to check vitals, that she informed everyone that they would have to leave in the next couple of hours. I gripped onto Jake's shirt tight, not realizing my breathing was accelerating.

"Of course, her fiancé can stay, right?" Rosalie said to the nurse.

"I'm sorry," she said, not even bothering to look up. "But the hospital rules-"

"But Ma'am," Emmett said in a soft, buttery voice. "My sister has been through quite an ordeal, and we're afraid that leaving her alone would cause her to have another episode."

The nurse was now completely focused on Emmett, and looked like she might start drooling at any moment. He continued the intense eye contact with her.

"Don't you think there is some way you can make some kind of concession here?" He continued, laying it on thick.

I almost felt bad for the nurse.

Almost.

"Wh...uh...um, yeah. Uh, let me just talk to my supervisor, I'm sure we, uh, we can do something."

And with a sparkling smile from Emmett, the poor girl stumbled from the room.

"Was all that necessary?" Rosalie asked, rolling her eyes.

"Oh please, you would have done just as much if that had been a male nurse." Emmett said, rolling his eyes.

Ten minutes later the doctor came back in explaining that they had indeed given permission for Jacob to stay, due to my state, but that he would have to remain in the room the whole night and not disturb the nurses in any way. Of course we all knew he wouldn't leave my side.

Rosalie and Emmett left shortly after with promises that they would return the next day, and with Emmett joking about enjoying the local wildlife. I don't think I once let go of Jacob.

"How are you?" He asked softly after everyone had left.

"Ok I guess. I don't know. It's just…..a lot."

"Yeah. I am just so sorry this has happened to you. To us. You're right, it's a lot. And neither one of us deserve to have to deal with any of this. Neither one of us ever asked for this life, and sometimes I just feel like I'm going to just break, and as soon as I think I can't take any more, we get pushed just a little farther. And I swear Bella, if it weren't for you, I feel like I would have given up so long ago."

"If it weren't for me, you would be at home right now."

"Bells, let me ask you a question. And I swear you won't hurt my feelings, but if you had the option to go back in time,-"

"No, Jacob. Stop."

"No, I'm not trying to start a fight, I just want your honest opinion, if giving up our friendship, our relationship, could have somehow prevented all of this-"

"No!" I said forcefully, sitting up to face him. My eyes were filling up with tears again. "Jake, you are worth all this, you are worth everything! I would go through it again, all of it! I wouldn't give you up for anything!"

He leaned his head toward me and gave me a small smile.

"Then why on earth do you think I would be happier at home living a life without you, than here with you in my arms."

I exhaled shakily and gave him a watery smile.

"Just shut up and come here." I pulled him back to me and laid down back on the small hospital bed.

"I love you so much, baby. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have you back." Jacob whispered into my hair. I snuggled into him farther, burying my face in his chest.

"I knew you would come. I knew you would find me." I mumbled, causing him to tighten his grip.

"I'll always come for you. Always."
