CHAPTER ONE
SHIMMERPAW
A/N: Hello everyone! I am so excited for y'all to see my chapter. And I am sooooo excited to write it! I hope everyone enjoys, so here we go *teleports to chapter*
Shimmerkit opened her bright amber eyes and looked at her mother, Cinderheart. She was still sleeping, and when Shimmerkit looked outside she saw that the sun was high in the sky. Her pelt prickled with annoyance.
"Wake up Cinderheart!" She meowed, nudging her mother with her paw. Cinderheart yawned and opened her eyes.
"What?" She asked.
"You have to wake up!" Shimmerkit meowed. "It's the day of my apprentice ceremony!"
Cinderheart yawned again and stood up. Shimmerkit watched her mother shake out her pelt and then stretched.
"Oh, yes." Cinderheart meowed teasingly. "I almost forgot."
Shimmerkit rolled her eyes and groaned when Cinderheart started grooming her.
"Mom!" Shimmerkit meowed. "I'm six moons old! I can groom myself!"
Cinderheart rolled her eyes and Shimmerkit gave her chest fur a quick lick.
"There! I'm clean!" Shimmerkit meowed. Cinderheart sighed and pulled Shimmerkit closer to her. Shimmerkit squirmed as her mother groomed her fur. But, despite her efforts to get away, Cinderheart would not let her go, so Shimmerkit just had to sit and deal with it.
When Cinderheart was done, Songkit and Cloudkit bounded over to her.
"Hi Shimmerkit!" They meowed. Shimmerkit smiled.
"Hello!" She responded. "I'm so excited for our apprentice ceremony!"
The two kits nodded. Then Shimmerkit padded out of the nursery, Cinderheart behind her. As if on cue, Bramblestar called the clan together.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the high ledge for a clan meeting!" He yowled. Shimmerkit, Songkit, and Cloudkit scampered to the middle of the camp where warriors and apprentices were gathering too.
"Kits!" Squirrelflight hissed. "I thought we told you to walk out slowly. Not like a bunch of squirrels!"
Shimmerkit sighed and the three kits padded back to the nursery. In single file, they padded out of the nursery slowly. When they reached the center, again, Shimmerkit looked up at Bramblestar.
"Songkit, Cloudkit, and Shimmerkit," Bramblestar started. "You have reached the age of six moons and are all ready to become apprentices."
It took all of Shimmerkit's willpower to keep herself from squirming around anxiously. Who was her mentor going to be? She desperately wanted to know.
"Songkit, you will now be known as Songpaw." Bramblestar meowed. "Your mentor will be Cherryfall."
Shimmerkit watched in anticipation as Songpaw padded over to Cherryfall and touched noses with her new mentor. The suspense in the air was growing as each cat waited to see who would be the mentors of the kits.
"Cloudkit, you will now be known as Cloudpaw." Bramblestar announced, looking down at his son. "Your mentor will be Molewhisker."
Shimmerkit's gaze followed Cloudpaw as he and Molewhisker touched noses. Now it's my turn! Shimmerkit thought excitedly.
"Shimmerkit, you will now be known as Shimmerpaw." Bramblestar meowed. "I will be your mentor."
Shimmerpaw watched as Bramblestar leapt off of the high ledge and padded over to her. Shimmerpaw touched noses with him, her eyes shining. Bramblestar's eyes held no emotion, but that was usual for the ThunderClan leader.
"Clan dismissed." Bramblestar meowed as he drew away from Shimmerpaw. Shimmerpaw turned around and saw her parents, Cinderheart and Lionblaze, padding toward her.
"I'm so proud of you!" Cinderheart meowed, covering Shimmerpaw in licks. Shimmerpaw drew away and looked at her father. Approval and love was in his eyes, for both Cinderheart and Shimmerpaw. He padded up to her and gave her a quick lick on the head.
"Are you excited to be an apprentice?" He asked Shimmerpaw. Shimmerpaw nodded vigorously. She really was happy to be an apprentice. She had thought it would never happen. But it did.
She saw Purdy padding over to her, his tail twitching.
"Well youngster," He started. "I'm proud of ya for becomin an apprentice." Shimmerpaw dipped her head.
"I sure will miss your stories!" Shimmerpaw meowed.
"Nah," Purdy meowed. "When you're cleaning out our den I can tell ya some stories."
Shimmerpaw smiled at the elder and turned back around to see Cloudpaw and Songpaw running up to her.
"Molewhisker, Cherryfall, and Bramblestar said that they can take us to see the territory right now!" Songpaw meowed excitedly. Shimmerpaw's tail waved behind her excitedly and her whiskers twitched.
"That's awesome!" She exclaimed. "Let's go!"
