ACT I
SCENE V
There was a few results when I searched the police database. Looking for just one Dean in particular. I didn't expect to find him in on of the first page of reports of 'Dean' I found.
Dean Winchester.
It's the most likely.
Arrested for four accounts of first-degree murder and about a million other charges including impersonation of federal officers, credit card fraud and forged badges, stealing and other charges of law-breaking I've never heard of as well as grave desecration.
Although... How can this be the Dean that Mum told me could look after me? Not only is he a convicted criminal. He's dead. Four accounts of his 'death' are listed. One quite recent. So he's either dead or is faking his death over and over.
It's a good possibility that he isn't a serial killer or anything like that. Cops don't always arrest the right people and cops don't usually know about the supernatural. It's likely he's a hunter. It's not exactly a paying job, which is why the credit cards and the stealing, but maybe not so much for the four murders he supposedly committed. But definitely the grave desecrations, killing ghosts required digging up graves.
I've never actually been hunting before, Hunters would capture something supernatural, bring it home, or to the barn we own outside of town – which I have purposefully avoided because it is on record that would be the first place they'd look. Then Mum and I would experiment on it, research what hunters have already gathered on it, elaborated on it, and tried other methods of killing, immobilising, and even curing.
We have cured vampires, werewolves, skin walkers, and arachnes. Nothing else has been cured yet.
We had some trouble with Leviathans a couple of years ago, but we found a way to keep them from moving. A spell, it was effective and held them for about 72 hours. But that was about it.
After all of our experiments and testings are done, we'd write up the data and send it to hunters we know, to spread the word about any new discoveries.
But hardly any hunters believed us.
And that's my first suspect for my mum's death. I think it was a supernatural creature that was hunted and the Hunter could have done any number of things, including curing it. But didn't and then maybe it wanted revenge, perhaps. But then why on my mum? I'm not totally sure. But it's my first - and best - guess.
Oh well. Guess I'm happy with the results. If it really is Dean Winchester's number, that is.
I took a deep breath and hit the green button after punching in the list of numbers and waiting for him to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Uh, hi... is this Dean?" I asked. Cursing at myself for sounding so unsure.
"Yeah. Who's this?"
"Um, my name's Rachel. Rachel Conroe. My mum told me to call you. She's been killed. She told me you'd look after me."
"Rachel Conroe... we've been looking for you, actually. We're already on your mums case. Where are you?"
"Abandoned house on the outskirts of town. Its been a minute. Bye."
I exhaled and leaned back in my chair.
"It's all going to be fine..." I reassured myself.
Because in all honesty, I'm not used to this much action. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
