Does the hippo see them?
A hippo sat in the middle of the river. This hippo was furiously sulking in the water after what was most probably the worst morning of his life. He had attempted to go into town that morning to get a bacon and eggs breakfast, but he was refused service on account of the fact he was a hippo. What was he supposed to do about that? He couldn't change that fact that he was a hippo, and now he had to eat bamboo for breakfast again. He ate bamboo for every meal, and frankly, he was getting sick of it. On top of being banned from shopping in town, the hippo also ran into his mom who was waiting for him in the river just outside of town. She had approached him and began complaining about his laziness, his lack of a steady job, his complaining about bamboo, and all the other things he did that bugged her. This left the hippo in such a bad mood that he swam down river to get away from the town and everyone else. When the hippo was finally alone he was able to angrily chew on his bamboo in peace. To add to his frustration, the bamboo in this part of the river tasted worse than the bamboo nearer to town. However the hippo refused to go back even to get the better bamboo. The hippo was determined to avoid everyone for the rest of the day. If they were going to refuse him food and be rude to him, he would deny them the pleasure of his company. This is why we find the hippo sulking in the river and chewing angrily on his bamboo. He raised his head to take another bite of bamboo when he saw it: a canoe. Inside the canoe were three cebus and a boy. They were coming right for him, but none of them were doing anything to move the canoe to avoid him. This angered the hippo. If the cebus and the boy were going to be too oblivious to avoid hitting the hippo, he was going to make sure he hit them. The hippo snorted angrily then he reared back and charged at the canoe.
