A/N: Title taken from the UFC Khabib vs Gaethje Trailer
It's pouring, raining Cats and Wolves.
Theo is closing up the coffee shop. Gerard is always making him close on a Friday [the asshole] He's stacking chairs, when the door opens dramatically. A slim figure starts cursing at the weather. "Shit!" He yells shaking his umbrella all over the place.
"Hey we're clo...Mason?" Theo asks.
Of course he knows it's Mason. He's memorised his smell. His shadow, the way that he moves through life ever since he'd met. When he "met" him it wasn't even face to face. He just stared at him during Lacrosse. Sure it was easy to get Liam to expose his secret. His quest for Scott's trust and his power had always kept him away from Mason, like a barbed wire fence. During high school it was hard seeing Corey and Mason acting like loves' young dream.
College was only a year away back then. He'd kept his ears open. They'd been living together in college and finally rented an apartment. That's all he needed to know. Mason wasn't available anymore. They'd been no chance, or reason to enter the human's orbit, until this night.
"Mase...are...you okay?" Theo asks. A pointless question. He knows the answer.
"Thee? I...I didn't know you worked here? Are you closed?" He asks.
Obviously they are. But Theo shakes his head. "Not anymore, sit down" Theo said lightly grabbing his arm and walking him over to the cosiest table. His guest has barely sat down before he's putting the coffee machine on. "What kind do you want?"
"Anything, thanks"
"Let's get you sorted with a Latte!" He announces. He makes it with more enthusiasm than he does with customers. But then again, everyone's ordinary compared with Mason weren't they? He sets the coffee on a saucer, along with a packet of shortbread biscuits and a slice of flapjack. He puts them on the table and starts asking the usual questions.
"Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"No..."
"Has someone hurt you?"
"Just emotionally I guess. Corey's decided to call it a day. Got his parents to give me the bad news"
"No shit!" Theo gasps.
"I thought we...were doing well! All ready for Valentine's day and joint dates with Brett and Erica! According to his parents, he's been planning this since last year. I was just...too blind to see it!" Mason breathes heavily as his eyes start to fill with tears.
"You weren't blind. Corey is! I've never trusted that asshole, even when I did bring him back to life!" Theo snaps.
"I need to get myself together, I thought Liam was working overtime?" He looks around, almost expecting him.
"Dude, Li got fired from here a while back. A mute made the mistake of calling him a imbecile ballsack"
"But how could the guy talk if he's a mute?" Mason asks sipping his coffee.
"He wasn't then, he is now" Theo chuckles at the human's worried glance. "Can take you to Liam's?"
"No he's out bowling and I don't wanna dump all my shit on him. It is okay if you take me to this motel?" He questions, showing him a nearby place on his phone. "I'll pay you for gas?"
Off they left, with a few black bags of Mason's belongings in the trunk. Unbeknownst to Mason it's a tense ride for the driver. Theo hasn't been this nervous since he made that childhood surgery deal with the dread doctors. His palms are sweaty. His fangs keep popping out, although neither of them have said much. As they get closer to the hotel Theo tries to find a polite way to change his mind.
"I guess it'll be expensive at this hotel huh?" Theo asks.
"It's a motel, so, cheaper than I thought"
"Still...you know how dangerous it is out here. Bat or no bat"
"A couple of nights won't kill me" He smiles as Theo reaches the motel.
"It could if you hook up with a wendigo...Mase this is fucking ridiculous, you're homeless and I've got a couch free"
"I don't want force myself on you"
"I wish!" Theo splutters with an awkward pause as he quickly changes the subject. "You're finally back in Beacon hills. You left on a good note and it would be cool to catch up. Crashing with me for a while, gives us a chance to do that, obviously you must have missed me?" He floods that sentence with sarcasm. But underneath the fibre of his muscles he's silently praying that Mason Hewitt's thought about him at least once in these past few years.
"Do you think Corey ended it, because I'm human? I'm deficient, or faulty because I'm not a supernatural?" Mason questions.
"Honestly, I don't give a fuck why he did. Any guy that let's you go is mentally retarded. Corey has always been an incompetent failure. I'm just glad he didn't drag you down too much"
"He's not a failure. I was lucky to have him. I just...I wanted him to fight for us, that's all!" Mason argues, suddenly feeling tired.
Theo digs his claws into the opposite side of the car seat to calm down before he spoke. "Any knight in shining armour that has the balls to fight for you is the lucky one. You'll always be the prize Mase, remember that" Theo sits there, steel faced as he crosses his arms.
"Thanks for trying to cheer me up" Mason relaxes, wrapping his hand lightly around the were's wrist. "If your invite is still on the table, I'd, really love to catch up with you"
