A/N: Hello! So I really want to continue this story but I'm just not sure how it's being received. Also I won't be doing very many other chapters that follow closely to the episodes. There will be scenes but I feel it would be better for the story and characters to have some originality to the words. Alrighty, on with the show. I'm changing a few things here so it'd won't go down exactly like the episode.

Chapter 5: A Place In This World

It had been two days since the Winchesters and Lyanna had found Anna Milton and within those two days, they'd been attacked by demons and angels, had to hide out at Bobby's, and had the task of figuring out why Anna was so important. Until Anna figured it out for herself. Anna Milton was an angel, she had decided to fall from heaven because she was desperate for the ability to feel human emotions. She had wanted nothing more than to be human and now she was going to be punished for simply wanting to feel. Lyanna on the other hand would give anything to feel nothing. The last few days had been difficult for the young blonde, she was quickly realizing that her feelings for Dean and her fear of their lifestyles had made her run six years ago, and now, well now she was right back where she started, except back then at least she knew where Dean and her stood. Now she had no idea.

Ruby had proved to be helpful and even though Dean didn't trust her, Lyanna did. Not everything in this world was black and white, good or evil there was always a grey area and it seemed Lyanna and Sam were both on the same page with that idea, however Dean chose to fight them at every chance. While trying to think of ways to keep the angels and demons off their trails, Ruby said she might have a plan and disappeared leaving Dean feeling even less sure of his trust towards the demon. Lyanna and Sam however asked him to give her a chance, so for now he would.

"Are you sure that they have your grace?" Lyanna asked as she sat across from Anna in the panic room

"Yes." Anna nodded, "Uriel has to have it, I could feel his presence seeping from the tree." she said

Lyanna sighed "Okay. Then you get your grace from him as quickly as you can, I don't want anyone to get hurt. Dean would never let me hear the end of it."

"You love him." Anna stated, "Why haven't you told him?"

Lyanna gauffed and shook her head "I don't love him." she lied "I respect him, he's the closest thing I have to family anymore."

"Yes, Dean mentioned that." Anna replied, "Your Mother was a witch. And you don't know who your Father is."

"Wow. Dean certainly gave you my life story." Lyanna frowned, "I didn't realize you two were close." she mumbled as she glanced at Anna, who suddenly looked guilty "What?" she asked, "What's that look for?"

Anna sighed and shifted uncomfortably, "Last night was my last night as a human… I wanted to make it count." she started, standing up and taking a seat beside Lyanna "I hadn't realized your feelings for him, or-or I wouldn't have-"

Lyanna held her hand up silencing the redhead "No, it's ok." she frowned, "Dean's a big boy he can make his own decisions." she muttered, anger bubbling under her usually perky demeanour, Anna went to touch Lyanna's shoulder when a shock bolted her hand, and a blackish purple mark colored Anna's fingertips where she had touched Lyanna, the angel flinched and stood in front of the girl, "What was that?" she asked, confusion and curiosity written all over her face

Lyanna shrugged "Just a shock, I guess. It happens sometimes." she replied, although inside she was a bit freaked out, that had never happened before, and shocks usually didn't leave marks like that

Anna shook her head "No. It's something to do with what you are." she said, "You're powerful, it-it almost feels like angel grace, but raw, darker, focused." Anna frowned

Lyanna snorted, "Oh so now I'm an angel?" she laughed, "Look, I'm just a regular witch, and my Dad was probably some hunter she met when she was fighting the cause." she snapped, rolling her eyes

A bang on the door of the panic room startled the two woman causing Lyanna to jump

"Hate to break up the gabfest but we gotta get moving." Dean said, stepping into the room "You ok, Lya?" he added noticing she looked a little pale and anxious

"I'm fine." Lyanna lied, she was angry at Dean for sleeping with Anna, and she really wanted nothing more than to yell at him, but they weren't together anymore and she would just come across as crazy if she opened her mouth.

Everyone got into the car and made their way to a barn not to from Bobby's, Lyanna and Anna sat in the back of the Impala in silence, Anna was trying to figure out what Lyanna was, and Lyanna was trying not to focus on what Anna has said to her, dark and raw, those were not words she wanted to be associated with, but as everyday passed she could feel something brewing within her, something strong, and to be honest what Anna had said scared her to death. What if she was something evil, something she'd spent her whole life killing and fighting, would Sam and Dean have to kill her? She shuddered at the thought and was grateful when the car came to a stop. The girls climbed out of the car and followed Sam and Dean into the barn. Sam was looking around for any sign of Ruby she'd said she'd be waiting for them here.

"Where's Ruby?" Sam asked, "She should've been here by now." he frowned

"Well she's your little demon girlfriend. Betcha she ran." Dean sighed, glancing at Lyanna and Anna who were sitting on opposite sides of a haystack "Anna. Uriel has your grace." he said, "Came for a visit in my dream, we had a lovely chat." he grimaced "Around his neck." he added

Anna smiled a bit as she glanced at Lyanna "See I knew he had it all along."

"How do we even know the angels-" Lyanna started as the doors to the barn blew open and revealed Uriel and Castiel

"Hello Anna. It's good to see you." Castiel said

"How? How'd you find us?" Sam asked, frowning as Castiel's eyes darted to Dean, who looked ashamed "Dean?" he questioned, hoping his brother hadn't sold out the redheaded angel beside them

Dean looked at Anna "I'm sorry." he whispered

"Why?" Sam snapped, watching as Lyanna moved to stand beside Dean

"Because they gave him a choice." Anna answered "They either kill me." she said, "Or kill you two." she added, glancing between Sam and Lyanna "I know how their minds work." she snipped, glaring at Castiel, she gave Dean's arm a squeeze "You did the best you could. I forgive you." she whispered

Lyanna noticed that of the two angels standing before them, Castiel seemed almost sorry for what he had to do, his eyes casting shadows of doubts as he looked at the four humans standing before him

Anna walked over to Lyanna and whispered something in her ear before giving the blonde girl a smile and turned back to the Uriel and Castiel "Okay. No more tricks. No more running. I'm ready." she announced

"I'm sorry." Castiel replied

"No. You're not." Anna said, shaking her head "Not really. You don't know the feeling."

Castiel's eyes stayed on Anna, "Still, we have a history, it's just.." he started

"Orders are orders. I know." Anna finished for him, "Just make it quick."

"Don't you touch a hair on that poor girl's head." a voice spoke from behind the group. Lyanna whipped around quickly to see Alastair, the demon who'd followed them to the church, with an injured Ruby and two cronies standing on the opposite side of the barn.

Sam and Dean grabbed the girls and pulled them off to the side, Lyanna instinctively gripped Dean's hand and pulled him closer to her, Dean glanced at their entangled hands but didn't make an effort to remove his from Lyanna's, however he shifted his attention on the angels and demons standing in front of them.

Uriel stepped towards Alastair "How dare you come in this room, you pussing sore?" he spat

"Name-calling? That hurt my feelings, you sanctimonious, fanatical, prick." Alastair countered

"Turn around and walk away now!" Castiel demanded

"Sure. Just give us the girl. We'll make sure she gets punished good and proper." Alastair replied

"You know who we are and what we will do." Castiel said walking to stand beside Uriel "I won't say it again. Leave now or we lay you to waste."

"Think I'll take my chances." Alastair smirked

Lyanna watched as the angels started fighting the demons. Castiel tried to blast Alastair but it didn't seem to work which stunned the angel and left him open for Alastair to attack. Meanwhile Uriel had one of the cronies cornered and blasted him easily, one down two to go.

Alastair had Castiel pinned on the ground, his hand wrapped around his throat as he started speaking in latin. Lyanna grabbed a crowbar that was on the ground beside them and tossed it to Dean who smacked it into Alastair's head causing the demon to let go of Castiel.

"Dean, Dean, Dean. I am so disappointed. You had such promise." Alastair said before using his demon powers to start choking Dean and Sam. Lyanna frowned and grabbed the crowbar again, hitting Alastair in the stomach, which broke his concentration enough to drop Sam. Alastair growled as he grabbed Lyanna with his free hand, "Protecting your lovers are you, sweetheart?" he smirked, pulling her face close to him "I know what you are." he said, "And in the end sweetheart, you'll be the one they'll need protecting from." he whispered, flying Lyanna across the room and into a wooden beam, her body crumpling as she lost consciousness.

"Lya!" Sam shouted as he tried to stand, his body still weak from Alastair's grip. He glanced at Uriel who had managed to get the other cronie to the ground and kill him, that was when he noticed Anna took her chance to grab her grace. She ran up to the distracted Uriel and ripped the vial from his necklace, quickly throwing it onto the ground in front of her, the grace flowing up and into Anna's mouth as Uriel watched in disappointment.

Anna collapsed to the ground as the grace began to take hold "Shut your eyes." she said, as her human vessel started to glow bright yellow "Shut your eyes." she repeated, hoping the humans would listen so as to not harm them "Shut your eyes!" she yelled as the brightness engulfed her, lighting up the whole barn for a few moments then returning to its dimness and stillness. Anna and Alastair seemed to vanish with the light.

Dean got to his feet and scurried over to Lyanna who was still unconscious, "Lyanna?" he frowned, shaking her slightly, his face etched with worry as the girl remained still "Lya, c'mon, you gotta wake up." he whispered

"Dean?" Lyanna breathed as her eyes fluttered open and Dean helped her to her feet, "I'm good. Sore, but good." she croaked as Dean led her to Sam who slipped his arm around her waist to keep her upright

Dean stood in front of Uriel and Castiel as he retrieved the demon knife from where it had fallen "Well what are you guys waiting for? Aren't you gonna go get Anna? Unless of course you're scared." Dean said, looking at them

"This isn't over." Uriel replied

"It looks over to me junk-less." Dean countered, glancing at Castiel before both angels disappeared with the flapping of invisible wings

"You okay?" Sam asked as Ruby hobbled her way to the group

"Not so much." Ruby replied

"What took you so long to get here?" Dean asked

"Sorry I'm late with the demon delivery. I was only being tortured." Ruby snapped, rolling her eyes

"Well I gotta hand it to you Sammy, bringing them all together, all at once… angels and demons. It's a damn good plan." Dean said with a smirk

"Yeah, well it was best to just let them fight." Lyanna said, wiping the blood from her lip where her face had collided with the floor

"Says the girl who tried to beat the big timer with a crowbar." Dean snorted, "C'mon let's get the hell outta here." he said, wrapping his arm around Lyanna's waist as he helped her walk out to the car

Ruby watched as Dean left the barn with Lyanna "So what's the story with those two?" she asked

Sam sighed "Both stubborn as hell and can't admit when their wrong." he replied, "They'll die saving each other but will never tell each other why." he added

Ruby shrugged "Who knows maybe that'll change one day." she said, as she'd heard what Alastair had said to Lyanna, "Maybe the truth will save them." she added

Sam was leaning on the Impala, Dean standing beside him and Lyanna perched on the hood. They'd survived yet another battle and were celebrating their small victory with beer and a breather.

Dean glanced at his brother and they shared a look before they set their gazes on the blonde sitting on the hood

"What did Anna whisper to you?" Sam asked

"What did Alastair mean? He knows what you are?" Dean asked

Lyanna frowned she had been waiting for both of these questions "Anna gave me a lead. Inviere. Romanian witches." she replied, taking a chug of her beer, "And honestly I don't know what Alasitar meant." she whispered, thinking back to what the boys hadn't heard Alastair say. Was Lyanna doomed to destroy the two men standing in front of her? No. She wouldn't let that happen. She would find out exactly what she was and fix it, or remove it, or destroy it. Whatever it takes. She will not become what Sam and Dean Winchester would need protecting from.

Dean glanced at Lyanna whose face was twisted with a look of guilt and fear and he knew there was something she was keeping from them, but who was he to push when he'd been keeping things from her and from Sam. Dean cleared his throat "I know you heard him." he said

"Who?" Sam asked

"Alastair. What he said." Dean replied, his voice bringing Lyanna out of her thoughts "About how I had promise."

"We heard him." Lyanna said quietly

"You're not curious?" Dean asked

"Dean, I'm damn curious." Sam sighed "But you're not talking about hell and I'm not pushing."

There was a moment of silence as Dean took a sip of his beer, "It wasn't four months, you know. It was four months up here, but down there… I don't know, time's different. It was more like forty years."

"My God." Sam replied, shaking his head slightly

"They… They sliced and carved and tore at me in ways that you…" Dean started, shaking his head, "Until there was nothing left. And then suddenly I would be whole again. Like magic. Just so they could start it all over. And Alastair, at the end of every day, every one, he would come over and he would make me an offer. To take me off the rack… if I put souls on. If I started the torture." he continued, his voice growing shakier with every word

Lyanna sucked in a breath and gently slipped her hand into Dean's, and he let her, he even squeezed it back

"And every day, I told him to stick it where the sun shines." Dean spoke, "For thirty years. I told him. But then I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't." he added, his voice breaking a bit "Then I got off that rack. God help me, I got right off it and I started ripping them apart. I lost count of how many souls." he sniffled, causing Lyanna to grip his hand tighter in reassurance "The things that I did to them." he added, shaking his head

"Dean." Sam started as he cleared his throat "Dean, look you held out for thirty years. That's longer than anyone would have."

Lyanna slipped off the hood of the car and gently wrapped her arm around Dean's waist, a little shocked when she saw tears rolling down his cheek, she'd only seen him cry a few times in all the years she'd known him.

"How I feel… this… inside me. I wish I couldn't feel anything. I wish I couldn't feel a damn thing." Dean cried, sniffling as he let Lyanna hug him.

The three of them were quiet for a few moments before Dean cleared his throat and removed himself from Lyanna's arms and he took a long drink of his beer before he fished the keys out of his pocket "Alright, uh, story times over." he said gruffly, the vulnerability that was in his voice a few moments ago completely gone, "Let's get some food and sleep." he added, making his way to the drivers side, leaving Sam and Lyanna standing alone

"He's gonna be okay isn't he?" Lyanna said quietly as she looked at Sam

Sam shook his head "I don't know." he sighed, "But at least he's talking about it. That's worth something." he added as Lyanna slipped into the backseat and Sam slid into the front beside Dean and they drove off to find something to eat and somewhere to sleep for the night.
